A sharp rift has erupted between Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV over the Iran conflict, with Trump strongly criticizing the Pope’s anti-war stance. The U.S. President defended his aggressive naval blockade strategy, calling Iran a global threat and warning of serious consequences if challenged.

The Pope, meanwhile, has condemned the war as “madness,” urging peace and restraint—fueling an unprecedented political and moral showdown on the global stage

00:00The Press, why are you fighting with the Pope?
00:01And are you worried it's upsetting your
00:03evangelical supporters?
00:04The President No, no, I don't.
00:04I have to do what's right.
00:06The Pope has to understand that, very simple,
00:09I have nothing against the Pope.
00:10His brother is MAGA all the way.
00:12I like his brother, Louis.
00:13The Press So why are you fighting with him?
00:14The President I'm not fighting with him.
00:15The Pope made a statement.
00:17He says, Iran can have a nuclear weapon.
00:19I say Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.
00:22And if the Pope looked at the 42,000 people that
00:25were killed over the last two or three months as a
00:28protester with no weapons, no nothing.
00:31I mean, if you take a look at that, so I can
00:33disagree with the Pope, I have a right to disagree.
00:35I have a right to disagree with the Pope.
00:38The Press What do you say to people who see that,
00:40who see your criticism of the Pope?
00:41The President You can't have, look, nothing.
00:44I have no disagreement with the fact the Pope can
00:49say what he wants, and I want him to say what he
00:51wants, but I can disagree.
00:53I think that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.
00:56If they do, the whole world would be in jeopardy.
00:59The Middle East will be blown up and the whole
01:01world will be in jeopardy.
01:02We're very close to making a deal.
01:04That'll be a great thing.
01:05The Pope has to understand Iran has killed more
01:08than 42,000 people over the last few months.
01:11Think of it.
01:13Protesters without guns, without anything.
01:15They were totally unarmed protesters.
01:17The Pope has to understand that.
01:19This is the real world.
01:21It's a nasty world.
01:22But as far as the Pope and saying what he wants,
01:25he can do that.
01:26Now, I know the Pope's brother.
01:27He is a big MAGA person.
01:29He's got MAGA all over his house.
01:31His name is Louis.
01:32He's actually a great guy.
01:33And I'm sure the Pope is a great guy.
01:35I haven't met him.
01:36But I disagree with the Pope.
01:38If the Pope would allow Iran to have a nuclear
01:41weapon, you can't do that.
01:43The Press Press The President
01:55The President
01:55The President
01:56The President
01:56Yeah, it's very exciting.
01:57With Lebanon, it's very exciting.
01:58I think we're going to have a deal.
02:00We're going to have a meeting.
02:01First time in 44 years.
02:04And Lebanon will be meeting with Israel.
02:06And they're probably going to do it at the White House.
02:08The Press Press The President
02:09The President
02:09When do you think they will?
02:10The President
02:11Over the next week or two.
02:12The Press Press The President
02:12Over the next week.
02:12And do you think this agreement can reach without
02:15The President
02:15I do.
02:15I think we will have an agreement between Lebanon,
02:20and they're going to take care of Hezbollah.
02:22But they're going to be working on Hezbollah right now.
02:25But we'll have an agreement between Israel, very importantly,
02:28and Lebanon.
02:29The Press Press The President
02:31The President
02:31I would.
02:32I would.
02:32Yeah.
02:34The Press Press The President
02:34Have Hezbollah agreed to the ceasefire?
02:38I mean, how do you even do that?
02:39They're all agreeing.
02:39It's a very nice little package for about a week.
02:44And we're not going to have lots of bombs dropping.
02:46And we're going to see if we can make peace between Lebanon and Israel.
02:50The Press Press The President
02:52Because there was a group of bishops that did put out a statement saying
02:54The Pope isn't merely exercising his opinion.
02:56He's preaching the Gospel.
02:58I mean, what do you say to people that view this as a peaceful?
02:59I don't want them to preach the Gospel.
03:01I'm all about the Gospel.
03:02But I also know that you cannot let a certain country,
03:06which is a very mean-spirited country, have a nuclear weapon.
03:10If they did, they would use it.
03:11And I think they'd use it quickly.
03:13And they would kill many millions of people.
03:15So, you know, the Pope could disagree with me on that,
03:18but certainly we're allowed to have that.
03:19I'm all about the Gospel.
03:21I'm about it as much as anybody can be.
03:23But I can't allow, as President of the United States of America,
03:28I can't allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.
03:30And here's the story.
03:32They won't have.
03:33They've already agreed not to have.
03:35That's good news.
03:36And I think the Pope will be very happy.
03:37You would have been great.
03:38Bye-bye.
