00:02Beryl Roberts has been living at Keira Beach Tourist Park with her husband for more than a decade.
00:08The couple bought a property at the site for $60,000 as part of their retirement plan.
00:14But in 2018, the Gold Coast City Council told permanent residents they would need to move out by 2028 to
00:22make way for tourists.
00:23We were all shocked because we thought, you know, we've got our little homes here, nice park and everything.
00:30We were here forever until we died, you know.
00:33The council has offered to buy their homes for the original purchase price, but the Roberts have turned it down,
00:39hoping they'll be allowed to stay.
00:42We just haven't got enough money to buy elsewhere.
00:46The council has told the ABC it won't be extending the deadline.
00:50It says it has already spent about $10 million buying back homes.
00:55Under the law, we were meant to give them one year's notice, but we gave them 10 years.
01:02And a majority of people has taken the option to let us buy them out.
01:07With rising rent and property prices, housing advocates say the couple's options are very limited.
01:13Perhaps they will be eligible for social housing, but the most recent data I've seen has put about 2,100
01:20households waiting for social housing on the Gold Coast with an average wait of 35 months.
01:25The highest waiting for their homes.
01:25If you're able to give up about 3,100 households.
01:26It says cart abandonment, lease of this tour, it says it's more and less comparable.
01:27Because at the top $1 million there has been coupled with the term to make suppose the return and discover.
01:27To be able to update this
