00:01Backs up, ball goes to Santos.
00:02Two, Porzingis.
00:05Doubled to Santos.
00:06Above the break.
00:07Three, got it.
00:08Guy Santos coming through.
00:10Golden State had to have that third down by 10.
00:13Bay Area, it's Guy Santos here.
00:15You're listening to Wheeler and Dibs on 957 The Game.
00:22All right.
00:23He had some big shots.
00:26Everybody had some big shots.
00:28Really big.
00:28This guy had some big shots.
00:31Just some huge moments.
00:33We can't wait to talk to him.
00:34After a game like that, for an opportunity to talk to somebody
00:38who experienced it all from the inside out, we're super, super thankful.
00:42So we'll get back to your calls in a sec.
00:44Willard and Dibs, River Island's guest line.
00:47Hey, everybody.
00:48It's Guy Santos on 957 The Game.
00:51Hey, Guy, how are we doing today?
00:53What's up?
00:54What's up?
00:54I'm doing good, man.
00:55Doing good.
00:56Just got here to Phoenix.
00:59You just arrived?
01:00Yeah.
01:01Give us kind of the lay of the land.
01:02How late are you guys out just partying it up?
01:05I mean, I'm kidding, but what happens from last night to today?
01:10Man, we just went back straight to the hotel.
01:13Everybody was so tired.
01:15You know, that was a hard game.
01:17Game that, you know, the way that we played, the intensity that we played,
01:22the whole game, everybody was so tired.
01:24So we just came back to the hotel last game, slept, wake up this morning, have a good flow
01:30session, good stretch, good, like, recovery time, you know?
01:34And then we just got here to Phoenix.
01:38Did you guys get some locker room time last night after, you know, everybody gets off
01:42the floor and, you know, maybe Steve's doing the media and before the real media comes in,
01:46did you guys have at least a few minutes to just bask in what was an amazing comeback?
01:52No, actually, because as soon as we got to the locker room, the whole camera, a lot of cameras
01:59was in the locker rooms already, so we still was, when Steve got in the locker room, there
02:04were all the cameras already there.
02:06Speaking of the locker room, I wonder if you could take us into the locker room before the game.
02:12What is the mood like getting ready for a game like that?
02:15Who's speaking?
02:17What did they say?
02:19That was actually, everybody was in the same mood, you know?
02:23Everybody was just like, or do or die a game.
02:26We know that we got to go there, we know that we were playing not at home, and we just
02:32got
02:32to do what, you know, what we are, what we do, like, every day, we work for that.
02:38So everybody was just locked in, Dremel was talking with us a little bit, you know, all the
02:44coaching staff was talking with us.
02:45We were really locked in to play against them for a while, so that was a great game.
02:50We knew the game would be like that, you know, up and downs, up and downs, but the
02:53biggest thing is when you get down, don't get too down, you know?
02:57You just got to take a breath, and you just go back in again.
03:03Would love to hear a little bit more about a Draymond pregame, and I guess maybe not a
03:08speech, but you said he was talking to you guys, especially guys like you and Pods, younger
03:13players who haven't done this before.
03:15What does Draymond say to you?
03:19He was not saying nothing specifically for me, but he was saying a lot of stuff for the
03:24team, you know, like, he'd been through this situation a lot of times in his career, and
03:29he was just more, like, encouraging us all the time, you know, like, you know, we still
03:34got him, we still got Steph, we had KP, we had a lot of guys that were all big shots
03:41yesterday,
03:41so we know all these guys has been to the finals, have been champions, they all have,
03:46like, been through a lot of stuff, so he was talking about us to get ready for those
03:52moments, you know, and you can see, like, what he did yesterday, he was ready for everything,
03:57the finals, the finals possessions was insane.
03:59Insane, the defense he played, and the whole effort in the fourth quarter, Mark and I were
04:03just talking during the break about being down 13, and you hit the first three that started
04:08the ball kind of rolling back in the comeback, what was it like for you, you played 32 minutes
04:14in this as a starter in an elimination game, how tough was it to adjust to your new role
04:20in that spot?
04:23Man, that was actually not very tough, you know, because I was playing almost the same
04:29role, but Steph was not playing, but when this guy is on the court, man, everything is easier
04:34for everybody on the court, you know, it's crazy, because just the fact that he's standing
04:39on the 45, you got two or three guys guarding him that give us a space for all the rest
04:45of
04:46the players, you know, so just the fact that I have the same, like, you know, like, not
04:51exactly the same role when Steph, when Jimmy was out, but now Steph is back, and for me,
04:56for BP, for all the young players that were having a lot of the ball in their hands, this
05:04game was a great game for us to, like, show what exactly we got to bring, it was exactly
05:09what we got to do to help, like, Steph, to help Bremen to do what they usually do, what
05:14makes them win four championships, you know, and that game was perfect to see that.
05:20Guy Santos with us here on Willard & Dibs 95.7 The Game.
05:23Guy, I was really hoping we'd get to talk to you today, I wanted to ask you this, will
05:27you take us through the play, I don't know, it felt like there was a minute or so to go,
05:32you guys get a defensive stop, Chris stops, taps a rebound, it lands with you, you're looking
05:40to get it to a guard, you leave your feet, and all of a sudden, who you wanted to throw
05:45it to was guarded, and you had to make a quick pivot on the pass, it worked out, but it
05:51was
05:51an oh-no moment for a second, will you take us through that play and what you were thinking?
05:57I don't want to really do it, I'm playing, I'm playing, but, no, that was a crazy moment,
06:04man, like, for us, when we watch that, you know, you see, like, oh, what he's doing and
06:10all that, but when you're in the situation and you see, like, I got the ball, Draymond
06:14tap it out for me, and I was just trying to find Steph, because, you know, that's the
06:20man that you've got to find, and when I jumped to pass the ball for him, the guy's like, I
06:27don't remember if that was exactly for him, but somebody else just was on the pass lane,
06:34and I had to change my mind in the middle of the air, I was not a guy that jumped
06:38too
06:38high, so I can't have an extra second, you know, so, so, yeah, that was a crazy moment,
06:46even for me, like, I was like, no, no, no, no, yes, the ball hit him, and okay, we're good.
06:52Big, I mean, a lot of deep breaths here in the Bay Area, too, because, I mean, you guys
06:56had stormed back, and we're thinking, oh, you got to find a way to pull this out, so you
07:00play the most minutes in the fourth quarter, you played almost the entire fourth quarter,
07:04and you're out there watching Draymond lock down Kawhi, and Al comes in and hits four triples,
07:09and Steph is doing unbelievable things, what was that like for you, you contributed big,
07:14but you're also watching this magic happen around you.
07:18Man, to be honest, I didn't even remember how much I was contributing in the game, because
07:24that was amazing, like, you see, like, all shooting, and I think he didn't have a three
07:28at this point in the game, but then he hit four threes in a row, big time for us, then
07:33you got Draymond and doing crazy stuff on defense to stop Kawhi, you got Steph running around
07:39and making crazy shots, so it's really a pleasure to be out there just with them, you know, and
07:47especially yesterday that I had the opportunity to contribute with some numbers, you know, and
07:52help a little bit more teams, that was amazing, I was there just like, I remember the kid
07:57from Brazil, watching the finals in 2015, when I was watching the Warriors for the first
08:04time, and I was like, damn, I'm in the court with them in the clutch moments, that's kind
08:09of tough.
08:10I gotta ask you that, Guy, I mean, that's the thing, I'm thinking about mainly you and
08:15Pods, maybe Melton a little bit too, the other five guys all have rings, and they've all
08:21done this a lot, and some of them have been doing it since you were a little kid, so what's
08:27that like, and how do you not let that kind of turn into almost an out-of-body experience?
08:36When you're on the court, you know, you just like, it's a lot of stuff for you to think
08:41about, and when I'm on the court, I don't think really about, like, nothing extra court,
08:47you know, like what happened in the past, you know, but these moments are special, man,
08:54these moments are like, you do it, even, I'm not a guy that usually do it, but at that
08:59moment, I was like, damn, man, these guys are nice there, but that's why they got rings,
09:05they're not just a regular dude, they're special, you know, so just be out there with them in
09:10that moment of the game, and just trying to, at the same time, that you're there watching
09:15as a fan, and you're there helping them too, at the same time, you know, so it's a tough
09:21balance, it's a tough balance.
09:23Did you get that sense of calm as you got into the fourth quarter, and you're down 13,
09:27and you're under 10 to go, and these guys have been through it, was there any change
09:31in their demeanor, even though you might have been 10 minutes away from having the season
09:35end?
09:38Say it again, sorry?
09:39Was the mood changing at all, like, were you able to stay calm because the vets were not
09:44even worried about being down 13?
09:47Oh, no, no, like, actually, when I was, when we were down 13 in the last quarter, of course,
09:54we, I think it was nine minutes to go, and we were, like, I was, I would say that for,
09:59like, by myself, for myself, I was worried about, like, damn, man, we gotta figure something
10:04out, because if we don't have a run right now, and they have a run, that go from 13 to
10:0920, you know, so that's what we don't want, and that's why we kept our games, like, we kept
10:17ourselves in the game, because we just, like, calmed down, we knew the game would be like
10:22that, you know, like, runs, so they gotta run, and we were down 13, then we gotta run,
10:28we were down four, and that's what we want.
10:30When you, when you have Stephen Curry on your team, man, you just need to the, to the, to
10:36the score be close, because he gonna make some magic, and you're gonna win the game, like
10:40happened last night, you know?
10:42Guy Santos is with us, oh, yeah, go ahead.
10:45Yeah, so that was, that was what we have in mind, like, what I have in mind is just, like,
10:49we cannot make them, uh, do another run, we gotta hit a three, we gotta do, like, I don't
10:54know, something, so we can score and have stops, and when we come back, that's gonna, that's
10:58gonna be huge for us when Steph is back on the court, and he just takes, takes on the
11:02show.
11:03Guy, you're in a unique position, we're just sitting here thinking about this, because, for instance,
11:08Draymond only knows what Steph's greatness looks like while being next to him on the
11:13court, we only know what Steph's greatness looks like watching on TV.
11:17You've done both, so compare those, like, how, what would you tell someone who's only watched
11:23on TV, how does it look different when you're actually on the court and experiencing it with
11:29him?
11:30Man, it's way more fun, it's way more fun, either, either if you're playing with him
11:36on the court or you're watching it as a fan, it's like, that guy is the showman, you know,
11:42like, whatever he does, you cannot be watching the game just standing on the sofa, you're
11:48gonna be jumping, you're gonna be, you know, you're gonna be doing something, because what
11:52he does is not like, I, I don't think that nobody else in, in a basketball, in a basketball
11:59world can do it again, you know, that man is different, so for me to be on the court with
12:04him and seeing all that, you can see me as a fan there, just like, oh, yes, Steph, come
12:09on, come on.
12:10I mean, I can see that from a lot of people, and I saw something from you last night that
12:15I didn't think you had, you had an isolation with Lopez, and you straight took him off the
12:20dribble, got to the rim, and cut that thing to one, I didn't know you had that in your
12:24bag, Guy.
12:26Man, I was actually looking for a pass the ball for Dre, and Dre goes at his screen for
12:30Steph, but then I saw, like, Brooke was so up high on me, and there was nobody behind
12:35him, because everybody was worried about Steph and Draymond, and I said, oh, okay, I might
12:40have a wide open, a wide open layup, and that's happened, that's what was that happened.
12:45G, I, I wonder if you could take us into some of, just like, the joyous moments, and, and
12:52I mean that both after the game, but, but also, like, um, when, when Steph Curry, a lot
12:59of you had big threes, Al Horford had big threes, he just turns and runs the other way.
13:03When Steph hits a big three, there's a shimmy, we're, we're, we're, we're in the laps of the
13:09fans, we're asking them if I made it, there's a whole show after the show.
13:13Is that ever, like, practiced, or discussed, or do you guys poke fun with each other?
13:19What can you tell us?
13:21I think that's just natural for him, because he does that with so much joy, and for him,
13:26it's so easy to do that, that he, I think, like, before, when he shoots the ball, he's
13:32already thinking in his mind what he's going to do after the ball goes in, you know?
13:35For us, it's different.
13:37For us, when we shoot the ball, we say, oh, please go in, go in, go in.
13:40No, he's like, oh, yeah, that's going in, so I'm going to dance right now.
13:44Oh, I love it.
13:44Do you have anything potentially queued up, or are you still too early in the career to start
13:49to showcase some of the stuff?
13:51Like, Tim Roy on the broadcast was talking about a samba and other things that maybe
13:55might be coming.
13:57I think that's too early right now.
13:59I got to have some rings to start doing that.
14:02That makes sense.
14:03Hey, G, what does Jimmy Butler's presence on the bench do for you guys?
14:10It's always great, man, when you have Jimmy.
14:12It's like, Jimmy is the guy that he's going to be playing all the time, you know?
14:15So, when he's on the court with us, having fun like we did last night, he's great.
14:21He's a great teammate.
14:22He's a great human being.
14:24Overall, he's like, he's always great when he's out there with us.
14:28You saw, like, after the game, I saw a video of him talking about Will.
14:31We were sure that he was saying, like, oh, yeah, that was a big time.
14:35Like, oh, Draymond, G, Budyanski, and everybody.
14:39And we was on a bench with him.
14:40He did nothing, but he was on a bench.
14:42That's exactly what Jimmy did.
14:45Jimmy always finds you.
14:47He always finds somebody.
14:48Yeah, he's always playing.
14:49He's always making fun, you know?
14:50Like, he was imitating that goat after we go back to the locker room.
14:57I bet you guys saw the video of him and stuff.
14:59We did, yes, yes.
15:00Yeah, so, yeah, that's how good it is to have Jimmy around us.
15:04Is Jimmy looking for a free agent to make fun of, by the way,
15:07now that Buddy Heald's not here anymore?
15:10I don't know.
15:11No, I think he's looking for somebody else.
15:14I think Will is that one.
15:16Okay, we'll take the lead on the rest of the group last night, I think.
15:21Yeah.
15:22So, what now, Guillermo?
15:23How do you go from the super euphoric high of that comeback and that win,
15:28and now you're in Phoenix and you've got about 28 hours to get it all buttoned up?
15:33What's the process for you guys between now and tip time tomorrow?
15:38It's just like, you know, that's the great part of the NBA.
15:42Like, when you have a great game or when you have a bad game, you don't have a lot of
15:47time to think about it.
15:48You just got to go to the next one.
15:50So, today we already have the meeting about, like, what we're going to do tomorrow, how we're going to work,
15:55what we need to do to stop them.
15:58So, we already turned the page and we are thinking about 100% on Phoenix tomorrow.
16:05And, Guy, I wonder how that meeting went because, obviously, the fourth quarter was great,
16:10but the first three quarters, y'all had plenty of mistakes, right?
16:14That was a lot of turnovers.
16:15So, what was said in that meeting about just the effort as a whole and what needs to be better?
16:23We already know, you know, like, the turnovers, that's things that we can't control.
16:27That was not forced turnovers last game.
16:29I had a couple turnovers, like, that I should not have.
16:31But, you know, that's the game.
16:34The biggest thing is how you respond to it, you know?
16:37And we did that well in the fourth quarter.
16:39And we know that we got to take care of the ball for the next game because it's very important.
16:43Yeah, it's very important.
16:45And to win two on the road is very rare.
16:47Only one 10 seed has been able to do that in the play-in and make it into the series.
16:53So, I'm sure you guys realize what a high bar it is and you're probably going to be up for
16:57it.
16:58Yeah, it's one game.
16:59We just need to win one more game.
17:01So, that's what we're thinking about.
17:04That's what we really lucked in about.
17:06We don't see stats or numbers about it because I bet the other 10 seeds didn't have stats, you know?
17:15So, we still got that guy.
17:17That's true.
17:17We still got that guy.
17:18Guy, before you go, what has been your experience in this league so far playing against Dylan Brooks?
17:25Man, Dylan Brooks, you know, we played him a lot of times last year for Houston.
17:33And we know what he do, you know?
17:35Like, he likes to talk a lot.
17:37He likes to, you know, to do a lot of stuff on the court.
17:41And, you know, he does some extra stuff, talking to the guys.
17:45You know, Steph is always one of the guys that he's trying to do something.
17:51But we already know that the game tomorrow, we just got to lock in in what we do.
17:56We don't need to worry about what they're going to do.
17:58If we do what we do well and take care of the ball, you know, play well on defense, keep
18:04playing together, move the ball like we were doing, we're going to be good.
18:09Guy, you're a veteran.
18:10That answer was incredible.
18:11You talked about extra something and stuff.
18:14That was, I mean, that was a samba.
18:16You samba'd around that answer.
18:18But we know exactly what you meant.
18:20You don't have to say it, Guy.
18:24All right, that's good.
18:25That's good.
18:26I mean, but you can if you want to.
18:28Like, what does, give me an example of something Dylan will say.
18:32I don't know.
18:32I don't know, man.
18:33We're going to see some more.
18:34All right, I get it.
18:35Extra something and stuff.
18:38That's the descriptors.
18:39Guy, go take another nap, man.
18:41You're the absolute best.
18:42Thank you so much for coming on today.
18:45Yes, sir.
18:46Anytime.
18:46Thank you, guys.
18:47Okay.
18:48Guy Santos.
