00:00The V&A East Museum is a brand new museum on the Olympic Park, and it's dedicated to
00:08all the things that we've come to love over the last 170 years at the V&A. But here we
00:16are focused on a younger audience. This is an area which has always, always been deeply
00:22invested in creativity and the creative industries. We thought this is the perfect place in which
00:28to create a museum that focuses on those things. The Music is Black, a British story which celebrates
00:35125 years of black British music, while examining its impact on modern British culture, is among the
00:42exhibitions on display at the new V&A East Museum, which is the museum's second East London venue and
00:50will open to the public on the 18th of April. The V&A East Museum will include a series of
00:57new
00:57exhibitions, including two permanent, Why We Make Galleries Offering Insight Into Contemporary Culture.
01:04New Work as a new commissions program is a unifying thread that brings into dialogue
01:11urgent questions that we'll be addressing through not only the commissions but also displays that will
01:17be exhibited throughout both the museum and storehouse. So it's a new trail of ideas that you can use to
01:23explore both V&A East Museum and storehouse and inviting our visitors to visit both sites and see
01:30us as a unified campus through the lens of new work. The Why We Make Galleries are free permanent
01:36collection galleries across two floors at the heart of the new V&A East Museum. The Why We Make Galleries
01:42bring together 500 objects from the V&A's collection of art, design and performance and explore how creative
01:49practitioners transform the world we live in. At the heart of the galleries are stories of 200 makers from all
01:56around the world. So at V&A East we're planning a range of live events throughout the year. We really
02:02want this place to be an active social space. You know it's one thing to look at amazing objects and
02:08it's
02:08another thing to really be a third space where people can convene, where people can find common interests
02:15and where again people can be inspired. Music is in every part of us and how it engulfs the body
02:22and how it moves
02:23us and moves us through this world and helps us survive and yeah. I think what makes the V&A
02:32East Museum
02:33so unique is how intertwined it is with the local community. As such as a massive museum it is so
02:41integral to the actual people that live around it especially the V&A East Youth Collective. They
02:47were really trying to find people who either worked in the area, went to school or were born in East
02:52London
02:52so that they can get the actual lived experiences of such a wide amount of people.
