00:00The White House says the Trump administration still cannot estimate the full cost of the Iran
00:05conflict more than a month into the fighting. The issue comes as the administration prepares
00:10its 2027 budget, which calls for a major increase in defense spending and cuts to other areas of
00:17government. White House Budget Director Russell Vaught told lawmakers that a formal funding
00:23request has not yet been finalized but is expected in the coming period. Trump's fiscal 2027 budget
00:30proposes $1.5 trillion in defense spending, a massive 44% increase, alongside a 10% cut to
00:39non-defense programs. The Pentagon had requested over $200 billion in additional emergency funding
00:46for the conflict with Iran, following estimates that the first six days of fighting cost more
00:53than $11.3 billion. The expected request comes ahead of the U.S. midterm elections as public
00:59concern grows over rising living costs and the impact of the war.
