00:00I want to begin by talking to you about your emerging markets focus you are
00:03betting big on India once again I want to ask you despite all the skepticism
00:07around how there have been past struggles in this country what do you
00:11think you can do differently and you've articulated a big plan for exports as
00:14well as on tapping the domestic market what is that going to be yes during the
00:18past year we focus on Europe and as a matter of fact now we are leading the
00:23trend in Europe especially in terms of electric cars full hybrid technologies
00:28so it's why now it's time to boost up again outside Europe and yes India is
00:34my first priority why because this is one of the biggest growth markets in the
00:39world probably 40% of the growth of the market in the total market where we
00:45operate but it is also a very demanding market in terms of technology in terms
00:49of value and we are lucky because we have a full end-to-end ecosystem with 15,000
00:56employees 6,000 engineers so it's why I want to focus on India what do you think
01:01you'll do differently this time so that the struggles of the past are not to beat
01:05it again because I set up a dedicated India for any organization I appointed a
01:12single CEO fully in charge of all value chain with a very strong Indian executive
01:17team they have the full delegation to deliver our case in India because now here
01:22in India you move very quick in terms of development technology features the
01:27team you have in India now is fully dedicated to India for India case and
01:31this is new doing this delivering the rules in India then we can be super
01:37competitive to deliver more India for the world right do you think you would
01:42also want to look at a strong local partner a strong India partner to help you
01:46along in this journey and have you been in conversations with any large
01:49industrial group CEO to do that our plan is standalone our plan is standalone
01:54nevertheless of course I want to understand better India before being CEO
02:01I was in charge to think was a strategy for India so it's why I know a bit I
02:06visited seven times India meeting a lot of people I try to learn we are ember we
02:11used to do breakthrough in this market with duster with squid triber tiger we lost a
02:16little bit of momentum now we know exactly what we have to do our plan is
02:21standalone without partner but we have a lot of partners because we have more
02:25than 130 suppliers here in India okay that brings me to Nissan so you know they
02:31of course rely more and more on Renault now after they exited their stake in the
02:35factory how does that change the realities on the ground between you know
02:39Renault and Nissan and do you see a future where there will be greater
02:43participation once again perhaps from Nissan once they stabilize their own
02:47business you've indicated that before I think it is doing very well because now
02:51it's much simplified as I said Renault India is a full-fledged organization
02:55doing this we are competitive and being competitive I think Nissan will be happy to
03:00use us especially for export do you think that they can play a larger role perhaps did you see
03:07more integration happening with no no for in India for sure not I think the smart way we are
03:14dealing now with Nissan is that we are two independent company but we do meaningful
03:18project together and here in India I'm very happy to keep the opportunity for Nissan to use our
03:27ecosystem especially for export you have a strength in horse powertrain you know with
03:31the hybrid capabilities that they give you is there any plan to bring that to
03:35India and get them perhaps to invest and you know take over some of the
03:39manufacturing of engines from you you know horse powertrain is a bit my baby
03:43because I started this project five years ago it's fantastic project worldwide
03:48leader in terms of powertrain but today also is not in India we manage our
03:55powertrain in India and our plan is based on this maybe one day I would recommend horse powertrain
03:59to consider very seriously India but there is no project yet no project yet but are you
04:07evaluating that seriously for the moment horse powertrain is evaluating they are okay I focus on
04:12my business and future ready India is a strong plan and we are committed to deliver it more globally I
04:19want to ask you you know about this very aggressive you know cost efficiencies and cost cutting plan you've
04:24embarked on we've seen some cuts on the engineering side that have been talked about so do we see
04:28that more engineering jobs will come to countries like India China Brazil perhaps and any other cost
04:34cuts what other departments can that potentially impact as from my nomination as CEO less than three
04:43weeks after I decided to change the organization of engineering and to put one engineering and I share to
04:49all the team very transparently that the transformation of engineering is our biggest challenge because
04:57especially our Chinese competitors are capable to develop much quicker technologies to develop cars
05:04within two years this is this transformation that we have to deliver and this is what our CTO is now
05:11implementing in case of India as I say to you the most important for me is growth and India for
05:19India
05:19so we have a full-fledged organization including engineering with a delegation and the capability
05:26and accountability to deliver the case in India and again doing this will be very competitive and this
05:32will serve the rest of the world so here in India we speak more about growth right lastly you've talked
05:39you know many times about you know Chinese innovation and the speed of their innovation and you've also said you
05:45know that you're not afraid of copying the Chinese what does that really mean on the ground it means
05:50that now each and any car in Renault is developed in two years first point it means that in future
05:58already we embedded all the techno roadmaps to be at the best level for all technologies that matters
06:06like EV software SDV AI all of this is embedded by the way in our future ready in India the
06:14team here
06:15is developing even in less than two years so here I'm sure Renault India will be at the front line
06:21of
06:21this transformation of engineering before we let you go you've talked about a strong hybrid for India
06:26and an EV for India yeah what is the relevance of both of these technologies that you see in the
06:30market
06:30for strong hybrids and for EVs frankly for me full hybrid replace diesel full hybrid you have the EV
06:39feeling in Europe our new full hybrid generation 80 percent of the time you drive EV in the city
06:45very low consumption but for me full hybrid is also driving pressure is modernity is technology
06:51instead of diesel it's why I see a big potential for full hybrid and EV we have to convince more
06:59and more
06:59customers moving to EV each time I have a customer in Europe choosing EV full EV he never go backwards
07:05they are among the most satisfied customers the challenge is to make it affordable for our customers
07:11and it is what Renault China now has to show to you to India
