00:00It is time to answer the final question of the season.
00:03Who will we call the champion constructor of the world?
00:07And the season finale is underway.
00:11Good launch off the line for the two McLarens.
00:13Karl Stolling on the grid, dropping down there.
00:15He's really, he's an owner and a crash at turn one.
00:18Contact, massive contact, Oscar Piastri making contact with the Red Bull as they flash through.
00:25It's Lando Norris with the lead, then Carlos Sainz up to third goes Pierre Gasly.
00:28In fourth goes George Russell, but a dramatic moment as Piastri and Verstappen come together.
00:34Yeah, Max Verstappen, brilliant getaway off the line.
00:37Made quick work of Carlos Sainz.
00:39And then rather than taking the cautious approach into turn one, he sent it.
00:44I don't think that Piastri knew he was coming.
00:47Not sure he did, as we see a battle now.
00:48That's one of the Haas, that's Magnussen trying to go by Perez up the inside into six.
00:53And he gets the move done.
00:54Brave on the brakes in his final start in Formula One.
00:57And round he goes, Perez spins, a wild opening lap of the Grand Prix.
01:03Yeah, so Verstappen's made short work of Sainz, who's a bit tardy.
01:06And this is where the surprise comes.
01:08He sends it and realizes that Oscar has given him a bit of space.
01:12But just the momentum of that Red Bull was always going to drift wide.
01:15And the contact was definitely made, Red Bull to McLaren.
01:19And we now know that Verstappen's given a ten-second penalty for this contact.
01:24This was on the first lap, super late-breaking move from Magnussen.
01:27And then the contact between Bottas and Perez is how Perez went round.
01:32Perez would then lose drive from the car and park up.
01:35Bottas has been penalized with a ten-second time penalty for that moment.
01:41Well, this is on board with Oscar Piastri as he tries to find his way past the Williams.
01:45Oh, big contact.
01:48And how did that not rip the front wing off?
01:51Penalty there for Piastri causing a collision.
01:53So his day going from bad to worse with that.
01:57That was a late send from Charles Leclerc.
02:00And Kevin Magnussen saw it coming.
02:02Opened up the steering.
02:03Got him back on the exit.
02:04But that Ferrari is roaring on by.
02:07And Charles Leclerc has gone from the back row of the grid up to seventh position
02:11as Ferrari continue to fight for this Constructors' title.
02:16Leclerc will be believing he can quickly clear the Aston Martin.
02:20And Fernando Alonso is outside of DRS for Hülkenberg.
02:24It means he doesn't get it.
02:25But Charles Leclerc did.
02:27The Ferrari screams bye.
02:29And Charles Leclerc has gone from 19th on the grid to sixth position in the Grand Prix.
02:35Lando Norris is being told and is managing his tyres at the moment.
02:39As we see Max Verstappen getting to the inside.
02:43And it's the same order for the Haas and the Ferrari.
02:45But Verstappen gets past the green Aston Martin.
02:48And on the exit of the corner the order changes up to fifth place.
02:52This is some attacking drive from Charles Leclerc.
02:54As Hamilton gets past Lawson.
02:56And now three moves into that corner that could be defining for later on.
03:02This isn't really working out for Leclerc now.
03:04Being stuck behind Gasly.
03:06We saw as he makes the move now down into turn six.
03:09DRS.
03:10Nothing Gasly can do on those older tyres.
03:14The car dropped down, was sent and the front left was not tight.
03:19It didn't look right certainly when the car hit the ground.
03:22And that's kind of where the driver's looking.
03:23You're looking a little bit out to the left hand side.
03:25Out into the pit lane or the fast lane there.
03:28So he would have noticed that right away.
03:29Had that been the right front maybe not.
03:32I guess Gasly doesn't have DRS.
03:34So it's going to be a little bit easier than what we saw before.
03:36And yeah he doesn't defend.
03:37After how many laps he had to try it around the outside.
03:40And look at the back of that Alpine.
03:41I was surprised he didn't just go for it.
03:42But obviously it worked out there.
03:45And hearing that we're cutting to Kevin Magnussen.
03:48Devery.
03:48On the circuit.
03:49So there's a spin for Kevin Magnussen that we caught late.
03:52And a part of his car has gone.
03:54And there's a puncher for Valtteri Bottas.
03:56In what could be his final Grand Prix in Formula 1.
03:59Lock up for Valtteri Bottas.
04:00Oh my word.
04:02Huge lock up.
04:03And contact between the Sauber and the Haas.
04:06Yep.
04:06On the inside.
04:07Yeah.
04:08Just no front grip.
04:09We heard earlier in the Grand Prix.
04:10I think it was Lewis Hamilton talking.
04:12I was at Max Verstappen saying.
04:13Just couldn't break into the corners.
04:15As you get those front tyres not quite working.
04:18Oh.
04:19Isn't that just great.
04:21Two drivers looking at their last Grand Prix start.
04:23To have it end like that is really unfortunate for both.
04:28Ferrari.
04:28Making progress from where they were last year.
04:31Where Mercedes beat them to the punch.
04:33Mercedes was second last year.
04:34Ferrari were third.
04:35Looks like they're going to upgrade.
04:37But not to the position they want to be.
04:38Talking of upgrades.
04:39Max Verstappen.
04:40Easily by.
04:40Fernando Alonso now finds himself recovering up to eighth.
04:47Laid on the brakes for Lewis Hamilton.
04:49He'll be enjoying this feeling.
04:51He fights it.
04:52Getting the power on as he gets past.
04:54And he moves up to sixth position.
04:55Past Nico Hülkenberg.
04:58Lap 46 of 58.
05:00We're coming to the end of an extraordinary season.
05:01With seven different winners.
05:03As the Red Bull easily slides past the Alpine there.
05:06Up into the sixth position.
05:09Might have to wait until he gets to a...
05:11Whoa.
05:12He lost the air on the front wing.
05:15And Piastri gathered it together.
05:18Getting too close to the back of the V car.
05:20Well, every day is a school day.
05:23And he'll just have learnt that and banked it away for the future.
05:27And let's see with the help of DRS whether he can reverse what happened to him one lap ago.
05:32No, can't go for the overall speed.
05:35But he feels he's got the confidence to run to the outside.
05:37Better grip.
05:38Does he have the room?
05:39That's a great way to fire yourself by up into 11th place.
05:44And this is an easy pass to break Williams' hearts.
05:49And Piastri recovers to the points.
05:52And Albon's chance of that first point score since Baku disappears.
05:57As Norris pushes on through turn 13 and 14.
06:01Hamilton will take the battle to turn number 9 on the last lap.
06:05But this is the moment that McLaren dreamed of.
06:08Lando Norris wins the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
06:12McLaren are world champions of 2024.
06:15They win the Constructors' title for the first time since 1998.
06:21Around the outside goes Lewis Hamilton in the left-hand side of your screen.
06:25And he's roared around the outside to take fourth away from George Russell.
06:31What a move.
06:33In his last drive for Mercedes, he was never going to accept finishing behind his teammate.
06:38Carlos Sainz has come home in second.
06:41Completing the podium and climbing 16 places will be Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
06:48Up 12 completes his attacking stint with Mercedes.
06:53After a decade in the doldrums, a season to remember for one of Formula One's most famous constructors.
07:00We did it mate. We did it. World champions. Well done.
07:04Woohoo! Woo! Papyrus Tom!
07:08Ah, incredible. Well done everyone. So proud of you all.
07:12Thank you so much. It's been a special year.
07:14Next year's going to be my year too.
07:1684 wins, 78 pole positions and 153 podiums.
07:22A standout stint in Formula One like no other.
07:25Hamilton and Mercedes sign off in style.
07:29And the top two teams in the World Championship, it's like times of old.
07:33Ferrari and McLaren.
07:36Another title for the famous team restored to the top of the Formula One World Championship.
07:43And McLaren, the top team in the world for the first time since 1998.
07:48The first time in 26 years.
07:51And the party, as told by our winner today, will go long, long, long into the night.
07:57We'll go long, long, long.
07:57Let's go.
