00:00The Honorable, the Speaker, House of Representatives, sir. In close is my resignation letter to Texas
00:05Governor Greg Abbott, effective April 14th, 2026 at 1159 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. It has been
00:13my privilege to serve the residents of Texas' 23rd Congressional District. Signed sincerely,
00:18Tony Gonzalez, Member of Congress. The Honorable, the Speaker, House of Representatives, sir.
00:24I am deeply sorry to my family, staff, and constituents for mistakes in judgment
00:29I've made in my past. I will fight the serious false allegations made against me. However,
00:35I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make. I am aware of efforts to
00:41bring an immediate expulsion vote against me and other members. Expelling anyone in Congress without
00:46due process within days of an allegation being made is wrong. But it's also wrong for my constituents
00:52to have me distracted from my duties. Therefore, I plan to resign my seat in Congress, effective at
00:582 p.m. Eastern Time on April 14th, 2026. I will work with my staff in the coming days to
01:04ensure
01:05they are able, in my absence, to serve the needs of the good people of the 14th Congressional
01:09District. Signed sincerely, Eric Swalwell.
