00:00Sharon, do you like your eye massager?
00:02Are we ever going to use it?
00:03Brian uses it.
00:05Good, but under.
00:07We all hold on to stuff that we just don't need.
00:11It's one of her kids' belly button clamps.
00:13Stop it.
00:14So me and the gang are coming for your clutter.
00:17It's a room of doom.
00:20Oh, my word.
00:22We're emptying chock-a-block homes
00:25and laying out every single item.
00:28Hi, hi!
00:29Wow.
00:31I can't speak.
00:33Could you part with half?
00:35That doesn't seem fair.
00:36That's non-negotiable.
00:37This is such a great start.
00:39To transform your home.
00:41Goodbye, whoa!
00:43And let the joy back in.
00:45I'm speechless.
00:47Wow!
00:48Oh, my!
00:50That is going to change our lives.
00:51It's the best feeling in the world.
00:54Mission accomplished.
01:03Move!
01:04Move!
01:05Morning, move!
01:06I love cobbled walls.
01:08That's a dying arm.
01:09Yeah, isn't it lovely?
01:09I think I'm going to take a cobbled wall course one day.
01:12We have not got time to be cobbling walls.
01:14I'm just putting that out there.
01:14I know, but imagine if I could do it.
01:16How beautiful.
01:16If we're in the middle of systemising, I find you cobbling a wall, Stace.
01:19Today, we're heading to West Yorkshire to the picturesque borough of Kirklees.
01:24Now we're hitting proper country lane.
01:26I can see sheep.
01:27I mean, this van is struggling up this hill.
01:29This van is struggling.
01:31Come on, take us up.
01:34Come on, Ewan.
01:36I think you're parked right across the grass.
01:38Oh, careful, Rob.
01:39Oh, oh, there we go.
01:41All right, hey!
01:43Wahey!
01:44I love Yorkshire.
01:45Isn't it gorgeous?
01:46Oh, pretty plain.
01:47How nice is this?
01:48Yes.
01:48This is so lovely, isn't it?
01:50This is the Mammon Rose house.
01:52They're a blended family of six.
01:55Their oldest daughter is back and forth from uni.
01:57She's 18.
01:58They've got two twin boys who are 16.
02:01And then they've got a seven-year-old little girl.
02:03Over the last few years, the house has taken a back seat.
02:06But now that the kids are older, they feel like it's the perfect time
02:09to get everyone involved and help them get back on track.
02:12Shall we crack on?
02:13Yeah, let's do it.
02:14Come on!
02:15Steps are this way, aren't they?
02:16Oh, this is going to be good for our step count.
02:19In this modern family home, there's two living spaces,
02:25five bedrooms,
02:28and a double garage.
02:31Oh, my goodness.
02:33What is this room?
02:35This is a hallway, really, isn't it?
02:37To me, it looks like you come in, you dump your stuff and that's in.
02:40Yeah.
02:40I'm just baffled as to why there's so much in the middle of the room.
02:43Look, there's a sofa here.
02:45Oh, wow.
02:45What?
02:46Oh, no, I thought it was just boxes.
02:47There's loads of kids' books in here.
02:49Shoot.
02:50We've got loads of DVDs I've found over here as well.
02:53Oh, I've got more DVDs over here, Rob.
02:54Where?
02:54This whole drawer unit is full of CDs and DVDs.
02:58Completely organised.
02:59All right, well, that's good.
03:00At least we don't have to organise in here.
03:02Yeah, it's not too bad.
03:03When has that ever happened?
03:05They've got so many instruments.
03:06Look, violin, guitar.
03:08Let's see if I've got any musical skill.
03:12That was...
03:13That is honestly the sound that I hear when you come into the room.
03:19There's this wire that seems to go up here.
03:21Disappears in the bottom.
03:21Like, is there another one that...
03:22Is there a wire that comes out down on that side?
03:24Where does that wire go to?
03:25Maybe it's like a sound system or something.
03:28Oh, my God, a helmet that will fit you.
03:30Is this...
03:33Can I just...
03:35What is...
03:35Is this a lift?
03:37Yes.
03:37This is a lift because Gregor, one of the twins, is disabled.
03:41He uses a wheelchair.
03:42That's his access upstairs.
03:44Oh, there's access here, but there's not much access this way, is there?
03:47They've made pathways.
03:48Yeah.
03:48To the wheelchair.
03:50But then everything else is just piled up in between.
03:53Honestly, this room is manic,
03:57whereas it could be such an incredible room.
03:59Like, it's huge.
04:00Yeah.
04:01I mean, it's a very cluttered hallway, basically, isn't it?
04:03Right, let's split up because there is so much more house to see.
04:07Good luck.
04:08I mean, if this is the entrance hall...
04:10Oh, don't.
04:11As Delia and Ewan head upstairs...
04:13Nice spiral staircase, though.
04:15There's another space to work out.
04:17Ooh!
04:18This might be the living room, I'm guessing.
04:20No.
04:21Do you think?
04:22There's a hoover in here, there's toys in here.
04:25I mean, there's an ironing board.
04:26This must be the front room.
04:27Well, there's two sofas, but there's six of them.
04:30And a table.
04:30They probably can't have a longer sofa
04:33because the wheelchair has to come in...
04:35Oh, yeah, I'm with you.
04:35..and then spin round.
04:37Imagine you're sitting there, watching TV,
04:39and then you've got, like, people up and down the stairs
04:41coming in and out through here.
04:43It's not cosy for six people, is it?
04:45It's just a walkway.
04:46We really need to think about this carefully.
04:51Oh!
04:51This must be Mum and Dad's room.
04:53While Rob and I investigate one of the upstairs bedrooms...
04:56Here we've got pictures, personality galore.
04:59Just shoved in the corner.
05:01Oh, no.
05:01So this is it.
05:02Hidden clutter.
05:04Out of sight, out of mind, Jobby, that was.
05:06What have we got?
05:07Oh, Millie's star.
05:09It's Millie's room, then.
05:11Downstairs, there's more than meets the eye.
05:14Oh!
05:15It doesn't look very, um, teenage.
05:19Maybe this is Rosie's.
05:20I'm thinking...
05:21Oh, look, yeah.
05:22This is all quite grown-up perfume.
05:25Yeah, this was Millie's room.
05:26But nothing has evolved.
05:27Oh, that's empty.
05:28I mean, look at this wardrobe.
05:29This is chaos in here.
05:31Yeah.
05:31Oh, my gosh.
05:32You mean...
05:33This has got to be Millie's, right?
05:34So Millie's still using Rosie's room as storage.
05:37Yeah.
05:37We need to get Millie's stuff out of here, don't we?
05:41Oh, so this is Gregor's room.
05:44Across the hall, Rob and I explore another bedroom.
05:48There's some pictures on the wall,
05:49but everything else is really plain.
05:52Practical needs come first.
05:53Yeah.
05:54Sink, the whiteboard.
05:56Everything has to be accessible.
05:58We need to find out what Gregor really loves.
06:01Yeah.
06:01And bring that into the room.
06:03Look at these.
06:05Poppets.
06:06And this is me.
06:07Arr.
06:08You're supposed to do it where you're...
06:10You doesn't look like you're talking.
06:11Mm-mm.
06:13She looks a bit constipated, doesn't she?
06:15She's...
06:15What?
06:17Last but by no means least, Rob and I have found not one,
06:21but two full garages.
06:24So much random stuff.
06:26Why is there so many TVs and remotes?
06:29Look.
06:30Look, golf clubs.
06:31We've got old sleds.
06:32We've got garden furniture.
06:34The old paperwork.
06:35School...
06:36School bits and bobs.
06:37Look at this speaker.
06:39Ooh, that's quality, that.
06:40Genormous.
06:41These are like unopened moving boxes.
06:44It looks like we've already started.
06:46It's a real shame that everything's getting lumped in here.
06:49This could be even more than just a garage.
06:52Only if they let go of a heck of a lot of stuff.
06:55There's a lot going on in that house.
06:56Oh, gosh, yeah.
06:57It's overloaded.
06:59Loads of boxes that haven't been opened yet.
07:01Yeah.
07:01So we're going to really have to focus on what needs maybe
07:05like a little tweak and what needs total overhaul.
07:09They've got the space to make that something quite special.
07:11But all in all, I'm actually really excited.
07:13Yeah, me too.
07:13Like, it's a big space to work with.
07:15Yeah, me too.
07:15I am actually really excited.
07:16So much potential.
07:18Hi, guys!
07:19Hi!
07:20Hi!
07:22Hi!
07:22Hi, guys.
07:23Nice to meet you.
07:24Nice to meet you.
07:27We have really enjoyed snooping around your house.
07:30It's been a long time.
07:31And you've made out.
07:38For the Merman Rose, downtime is all about family.
07:42Quality time is definitely spent out of the house,
07:45heading for the hills.
07:47Mary was a single parent to her three children
07:49when she met Stuart.
07:51You said you didn't want to meet anyone with children,
07:53didn't you?
07:54That's true, yeah.
07:55I don't know.
07:56You woo the day.
07:57No.
07:58Not all the time, anyway.
08:00We have Millie, who's 18.
08:01She's at uni now.
08:02Then we have twins, Henry and Gregor, who are 16.
08:05Henry's at college.
08:06Gregor's at special needs school.
08:07And then we've got Rosie, who's seven.
08:09What is the point of putting this?
08:13What is the point?
08:14Who is going to eat that?
08:16Who is going to eat that?
08:16It was you.
08:18I think we are close, even though I've moved away.
08:20Who always phoned me.
08:22And like...
08:22It's always about your issues.
08:24Well, when she's back, she's always in the bathroom forever and ever.
08:30That is literally you.
08:32That is not me.
08:32Have you seen my work clothes?
08:34They're probably in the jungle dryer.
08:35I am.
08:35Can you bring the whole basket out so I can talk through it?
08:38Clutter, it always feels like it's below the waterline, right?
08:41You know, we just can't get to it because our days are filled with everything else.
08:45There it is.
08:46You are so annoying.
08:47Sorry.
08:48Hello.
08:49The mess in the house drives mum and dad crazy.
08:54It's a big, big hazard.
08:58Mary moved into the house 20 years ago with her first husband, Chris.
09:02It was a lovely empty house and we kind of decided to kind of fill it with children and
09:07clutter as the years went on.
09:10Together they had Millie and twins Henry and Gregor.
09:14All a girl can do is chew.
09:17Who Mary now cares for after an illness left him brain damaged.
09:21Reverse, reverse, reverse.
09:23Oh, they got a box.
09:25Mummy's crashed.
09:27Ready to go up with staff.
09:29But six years later, Chris died unexpectedly after a fatal stroke.
09:34A lot of the stuff in the garage is Chris's.
09:36I've just shut the door on and ignored.
09:39It takes months and years to come to terms with what has happened.
09:44Let's have a look Gregor, what do we need to do?
09:46I think my mum, she does struggle but she's very selfless.
09:49She always puts other people first.
09:51You are my sister.
09:54After Mary and Stuart married and had Rosie together, the house became home to this family of six.
10:00We've got to the point now where everyone's a bit more independent and I'd love to have a kind of
10:05fresh start for all of us.
10:06Making it a better space that we can all enjoy living in.
10:14How do you think the clutter and the way things are built up is affecting you at the moment?
10:18I think it just means we want to escape all the time.
10:21I just get overwhelmed, so it would be nice to have more family time that we can all spend together
10:25and enjoy being in the house.
10:27In this process we always say we have to let go of at least 50% of everything that's in
10:31the house.
10:3280% would be quite good.
10:34Oh my gosh, I will remember that in the warehouse.
10:36Are you ready?
10:38Let's do it!
10:42We have got just 12 hours to help the Mamma Rose pack up their family home.
10:47Is that the big bus?
10:48Throw it all in!
10:49Get it in, get it in!
10:51First up, Mary and I have come to tackle the most cluttered space in the house.
10:56This to me is like Scream's garage.
11:00This, I don't know where to start.
11:01No.
11:02This is the protector that Chris wanted to set up.
11:04It was supposed to be in there.
11:06Oh, is that what the wires are?
11:09Most of this stuff is Chris's really.
11:11And he bought the house pretty much because he liked the garage.
11:14But I've just chucked stuff in over the years and it's just all kind of accumulated.
11:18Have you ever had a massive clear out?
11:20And I think, because so much of it is Chris's, I didn't really know where to start and I didn't
11:25want to kind of disrespect him by just throwing things away.
11:27So I kind of just left it because there's been so much going on that I've had to deal with
11:31instead.
11:32What happened with Chris?
11:34We had a family gathering and he had a really bad headache.
11:38And 20 minutes later, he had a brain hemorrhage.
11:41Oh my gosh.
11:42So he ended up in a hostel for three days but then he was gone.
11:46I can't even imagine.
11:48It was just such a massive shock.
11:51I think I went into autopilot that I needed to look after the children.
11:56They were priority.
11:57My real focus was just trying to keep everyone as together as I could do.
12:02A lot of the photos and any kind of things that have reminded me have upset me.
12:07So I haven't really wanted to look at them because, you know, because they do obviously trigger the sad memories
12:13of the trauma.
12:16So do you think you went into, just went into survival mode when Chris passed away?
12:21It's all just boxed away.
12:22I don't think we've really dealt with the past and it's kind of held us back from moving forward as
12:27well.
12:28Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
12:29I think everyone's ready now.
12:31It's time to face it and then move forward.
12:34Yeah. Yeah.
12:42Meanwhile, Dilly is tackling Gregor's room with twin brother Henry and sister Millie.
12:48This is a frog.
12:51King frog.
12:55We're meant to be packing, but this is much more fun.
12:59Gregor, we are going to try and get this room packed.
13:02What are some of Gregor's favourite books?
13:04He loves the interactive ones, so like, ones with, like, texture on.
13:09Millie, moo!
13:10Is it a pig's pink ears?
13:13Do you have to feel it?
13:15Do you like that one, Gregor? Is that your favourite book?
13:17You can obviously see that you communicate with him so well.
13:20Yes.
13:21He notices everything that's going on.
13:22Yeah, he is very observing.
13:24Yeah.
13:24He'll just, like, blink and he'll communicate with us.
13:26So clever.
13:27Like, what he wants to do.
13:29What do you think's been the hardest part with the clutter?
13:32I'd just say spending time with each other, to be honest, in the house.
13:35It's difficult because Gregor's limited to only a few rooms.
13:38When I introduce him to other people, I like to mention that with twins,
13:42because I think some people don't realise it sometimes.
13:45While we may not have that language communication,
13:48he's still there in my heart.
13:50And he is a massive part of my life.
13:53We do want to spend quality time with each other,
13:54but we just tend to leave the house.
13:56If we had, like, a space inside the house where we could all come together,
13:59I feel like that would benefit everyone.
14:01That would be easier. Yeah.
14:02Especially Gregor.
14:03Should we get another box and put some more puppets in here?
14:07Don't worry, Gregor, we're not getting rid of them.
14:11Though we seem to be making headway...
14:13Right, let's start taking these down, Stuart.
14:15..there's more rooms to clear.
14:17We've got loads of boxes.
14:19So Ewan and Rob have come to help Rosie pack up her bedroom.
14:23Whose perfumes are these?
14:24Millie!
14:25Wait, this is your room?
14:26It used to be Millie's, and she left loads of stuff here.
14:29I bet you're going to be happy to get your space in your room.
14:32Yes.
14:33I get lots of Millie and Henry's old stuff,
14:36but there's no room for it,
14:38so I just have to leave it on the floor.
14:40So what would you like this room to be like?
14:43I like the colour lilac purple.
14:46Ooh!
14:47We have the keys in here!
14:50To the car!
14:51Where did you drive to?
14:52I didn't go anywhere!
14:59I'm packing out here
15:00because I don't want Dilly to see how I'm packing.
15:02I've got a sleigh with a helmet,
15:05with some clothes.
15:07None of which should all be in the same place,
15:09so Dilly's just going to have to moan me in the warehouse.
15:14More hoodies.
15:16With a healthy collection of boxes filling up,
15:19there's still the communal area to clear out,
15:21so Dilly's come to supervise Stuart.
15:24Stuart, that's doll furniture.
15:26Sorry.
15:26You see, you're learning.
15:27This is dolls, doll furniture.
15:30So you're obviously now this incredible blended family.
15:33You've become a stepdad.
15:34Tell me how you met.
15:35I do remember having to persuade her
15:38to give me her phone number.
15:40Why wouldn't she give you her phone number?
15:41She'd kind of been through quite a lot at that time, but...
15:44You weren't put off by it.
15:46I wasn't put off, no.
15:46I kind of...
15:47I persisted, I guess.
15:49On our first date, she told me about Chris
15:52and then told me about Gregor.
15:54A lot of what she went through
15:56before I met her and the family,
15:59I admire her for that.
16:00But at the same time,
16:01Mary sometimes does avoid boxes of memories.
16:05She doesn't want to confront a memory or an emotion.
16:10What would your dream be for this house?
16:12If we could spend that bit more time together as a family
16:15and, yeah, we've got something that we can really feel is ours
16:19and works for us.
16:22These toys?
16:24As the vans are filling up outside...
16:27Let's do this.
16:28Yeah.
16:29Where should we start?
16:30Exactly.
16:32It's time to tackle the mountain of clutter
16:35in the downstairs entrance room.
16:37What is this? Sorry.
16:39What is this?
16:40These are all my dot martins that my dad used to collect for me.
16:44Aww.
16:45They are nice, but it's like, I don't fit into them,
16:47so why would I have this?
16:48It's true.
16:49Do you ever remember the house not being cluttered?
16:52No.
16:54Before my dad passed away, it wasn't as bad.
16:57OK.
16:58Have you ever been through dead stuff?
16:59No.
17:01How come you've never done that before, do you think?
17:03I feel like I wouldn't be ready for it a few years ago.
17:07Really?
17:08Yeah.
17:08Also, as a family, we don't really mention it.
17:12You don't talk about it?
17:13Not really, unless I ask.
17:15That's why I'm a bit excited to see what he had,
17:17and get to know more about him.
17:19So you're excited to do that?
17:20Yeah, I am.
17:21You feel like now's a better time?
17:22Yeah.
17:23Talk to me about these CDs.
17:25What is going on here?
17:26So, I think it's all just come from our dad mainly, like, music.
17:30His favourite band was Madness.
17:32Aww.
17:33We went to see them last year.
17:35Oh, they're amazing, aren't they?
17:36So good.
17:37And he's, like, blasted around the house.
17:39What is your dream for this house?
17:41I think both of us agree we want, like, a space that our friends can come round and just enjoy.
17:46Yeah.
17:46I just want it to be more, like, our house.
17:48More homely.
17:50Yeah.
17:50Yeah.
17:50I'll start moving these out here.
17:53Have we got it, guys?
17:55Hey, darling.
17:56Da-da-da-da-da!
17:57Watch the light!
17:59Mary became a single mum, and life changed dramatically.
18:03She just had to put one foot in front of the other and carry on.
18:06And there are so many everyday challenges that the house comes last.
18:10Now the kids, they're at an age where they can go through all of their dad's stuff and decide what
18:14they want to keep and what they want to let go of.
18:16So I think this is going to be the first time the family process any of those emotions.
18:20They're all ready for this change.
18:22Oh!
18:23No!
18:29All fine.
18:30Everything's fine.
18:31All fine.
18:33The contents of the Mammon Rose family home has been packed into six vans, and the house is finally empty.
18:41Bye!
18:42See you!
18:46Oh!
18:48Oh, my God!
18:52And that was all gone.
19:01This is back left.
19:04Who do you think is going to be the best at letting go of things?
19:07I can't be good at letting go of other people's stuff.
19:10Yeah, okay.
19:11Well, that's not really fair, is it?
19:12Well, that's not really fair, is it?
19:13What?
19:13See you, Stacy.
19:14Oh, my gosh!
19:16Hi!
19:18How are you doing?
19:19Can you do your feet?
19:20I'm good, how are you?
19:21Hi, sweetheart.
19:24Hi.
19:24Welcome, family.
19:25We're here.
19:26How are you all feeling?
19:27Definitely ready.
19:28Ruthless.
19:28Yeah, that's the word.
19:29Let's hope.
19:30Is there anything that you're worried about?
19:32See, it's something that I haven't seen in ages.
19:34I think a lot of things in that garage haven't been seen for about 18 years.
19:38Yeah.
19:38Shall we go inside and see what we're dealing with?
19:40Yes, let's go.
19:41Come on, honey.
19:42Now this is where it gets exciting, Gregor.
19:46Oh, this is it.
19:52Oh, my God!
19:54That's hilarious.
19:55What?
20:02Welcome to your home.
20:04Here it is.
20:06Out of 350 boxes from the Mammon Rose home, we counted over 1,300 books, 462 CDs, 192 pairs
20:19of shoes and 17 speakers.
20:23Where was the last time you saw that sofa?
20:26We genuinely had no idea you had an extra sofa until we started backing the stuff up
20:29that was on top of the sofa and uncovered it and we were like, wow.
20:33So I found 55 remote controls, which I found really interesting.
20:39Well, they were down the back of the sofa.
20:40It's everywhere.
20:42Okay.
20:43Are you ready?
20:44Yes.
20:45We are ready.
20:46Let's go.
20:48We only want a maximum of 50% of their belongings back to the house.
20:53Right, to books.
20:54To the books.
20:54Come on.
20:55So it's time to decide what they keep and what to recycle, donate and sell.
21:01There are 1,045 kids books here.
21:05Yeah.
21:05If you tell me the best way to engage Gregor in this so that he gets a say and a
21:09choice.
21:10Go keep or throw away and then he'll look at which one.
21:13It'll eye point depending on the ones he likes.
21:16Perfect.
21:17Mr. Tumble?
21:18Yes.
21:18Do you like Mr. Tumble?
21:20Just a little bit.
21:22Just a little bit.
21:23Okay, Mr. Tumble state.
21:24Yes.
21:25Gregor, do we like the monkey with a bright blue bottom?
21:29No.
21:29Okay.
21:30Check him on that one.
21:31Yeah, I'm going to start putting him in here.
21:33Do you know what I love so much is how involved Gregor is in making the decisions.
21:37So you can see how excited he gets by some books and how he's just not bothered by others.
21:41Okay, Gregor, do we like these ones?
21:44What do you think?
21:45I think they can go.
21:46Let's keep the big ones.
21:47Yeah?
21:48Yeah.
21:48Sounds good to me.
21:49Right.
21:49Well done team.
21:51The most interesting thing about doing the first section as a whole family is you can
21:55really get to know about everyone's relationships and you can see all the siblings are just so
22:00close and love each other so much.
22:04This is a funny book Gregor.
22:06So he's reading Gregor's favourite thing.
22:08He loves stories but he likes the funny ones.
22:11Anything that he can read with a silly voice he particularly loves.
22:16Oh no.
22:17Can we get rid of the famous five?
22:19Yeah, bye.
22:20Do not need this.
22:24How much books do we have?
22:26Exactly.
22:28Incoming!
22:30I think we're starting off strong though so well done everyone.
22:33Call of it because it won't.
22:38There are 421 books left.
22:42But we still kept your ones Gregor don't worry.
22:44We haven't thrown any of your favourites away Gregor.
22:47Right, shall we keep going?
22:48Yes.
22:49OK, so next section is music.
22:52So are there instruments here that we definitely don't need?
22:55Those two, there are two violins.
22:57Right, they can all go.
22:58That'll do.
22:59That can all go.
22:59Ta-da!
23:01Everything you're putting here is that to go?
23:03This is keeping, this is going.
23:05OK.
23:05See look, there's two there and there's like six there.
23:08Perfect, OK.
23:09Does the house feel overwhelming?
23:11I think so, yeah.
23:12And you've got so many other massive things to deal with as well.
23:15Yeah.
23:16And teenagers and...
23:17Christmas carols for the flute.
23:19How many flutes do we have in our house?
23:23Mary's in there just getting things done, which is great,
23:26but I think sometimes when I'm talking to her I'm like,
23:28oh, it's like she just wants to get out of this conversation really quickly
23:31and I know why, because it's difficult.
23:34And her way of coping is to block it out and carry on.
23:38Have you always been like very matter of fact?
23:41Yeah, I'm...
23:42Yeah.
23:43Life's too short, isn't it?
23:44So you need to get on with it.
23:46Do you...
23:46No, but do you...
23:47I wonder because you're very good at sort of like cutting off the emotion
23:51and being really practical.
23:52I think I always had to like get on with it and make decisions quickly.
23:56There's too much to deal with so you just kind of leave it.
24:00Are we finished in here after that?
24:01I think so.
24:02This has been the easiest section ever.
24:04Mary, you literally whizz round there.
24:11Sizing up the entrance hall...
24:13Whatever we do in this room, we have to work it around the access for Gregor.
24:18Yeah.
24:19Rob and Euron are considering how to make the best use of this space.
24:22I think that might be enough width to put the piano into.
24:25How about we turn it into a music room?
24:27Uh-huh.
24:28I think it would be great.
24:29It's a musical family.
24:30Yeah.
24:31And also we have to do like some seating.
24:33So whoever's like performing, doing their little solo,
24:35the rest of the family can watch.
24:42Do you know what? That's a great idea.
24:43As Rob gets started on the bench with integrated storage...
24:47There's just a few things of your dad that I know he'd really want you to keep.
24:51In the electric section of the warehouse,
24:54Henry and Millie are discovering some of their dad's prized possessions.
24:58We've got hundreds of electrical items.
25:01These speakers...
25:02They do look good.
25:03They've got...
25:04They're like really good sound quality.
25:06Oh, the cameras, Mum!
25:08Yeah, this one's got a card in it, so...
25:10There's a load of...
25:11I think there's a load of videos and like photos on that.
25:13I'm not sure.
25:14Why have we not seen any of this stuff, Millie?
25:16Because it's hidden like in the garage probably.
25:19How does it feel seeing all the stuff your dad collected over the years?
25:22It's just...it's cool.
25:23Is it?
25:23It's like vintage.
25:24Do you remember much about your dad?
25:27Erm...
25:27I remember like the things we used to do together.
25:29He was very like spontaneous.
25:31So like...
25:31He used to take me fishing like a lot near the local lake.
25:34We used to do like hobbies and stuff together.
25:37But this sounds weird, but...
25:38Because I was so young.
25:40But I don't remember the sound of his voice really.
25:43Yeah.
25:44I think, yeah.
25:45I do miss him obviously.
25:46Of course.
25:46Yeah, but erm...
25:48I just remember seeing him like on the floor.
25:50With the paramedics around him.
25:52And that's like the last time I saw him.
25:54So like, just like on my bedroom floor.
25:57Which is like...awful.
26:01I'd like to find out more about who he was.
26:04And I feel like you can tell who he was through like the possessions that he has.
26:11What was the dream for this projector?
26:13Do you know what the dream was?
26:14Oh, the dream was to put it in the downstairs room.
26:16And that was dad's dream?
26:18Yeah.
26:18And that's what he tried to do.
26:20It didn't work out because obviously, yeah.
26:23Would you light this up?
26:24Yeah, I would.
26:25Yeah, because that was the dream.
26:27I just think it's so lovely that they've now got to see stuff that their dad had.
26:32And then Mary can explain where that memory comes from.
26:35Your dad was in the paper for like three years in an advert.
26:38People would come up to him in the street and be like,
26:40Oh, I know you.
26:41Oh my gosh.
26:42I do feel like that slowed everything down a little bit, but in a good way.
26:46Whilst things become clearer in the warehouse.
26:49Do you think if they get rid of enough,
26:51we're going to be in a situation where all this floor space is freed up.
26:54That is the hope.
26:56Rob has a double purpose plan for the double garage.
27:00This side can be the access and the storage side.
27:03And then we can utilise this for your chill out zone.
27:06Like, you know, the basements they have in like US teen movies
27:09where they come down and you've got like a sofa and all the posters up.
27:12I always wish when I was younger that I had one of those.
27:15You can just come in through the garage door then.
27:17You can get your mates round.
27:19Sneak them in.
27:20Sneak in your hair.
27:22As Rob builds a partition to divide the chill out space from the storage.
27:28Oh, lovely haircut Gregor.
27:30It's time to tackle some more sentimental items with Mary.
27:34Oh, your Christmas list from 1986.
27:38A ring.
27:39A kiss.
27:42And a colouring book.
27:43Naturally.
27:44A kiss and a colouring book.
27:46Your wedding dress.
27:47Nice. Do you like it?
27:48It's beautiful.
27:48Yeah.
27:49You look so amazing.
27:51Why aren't these up in the house?
27:54Over the years I've kept photos but I've just put them away in boxes rather than put them in frames
27:58and put them out.
27:59Is that because you just got so busy or because you couldn't face it?
28:03It was definitely an emotional thing.
28:06After Gregor got poorly basically.
28:09I don't know how everything unfolded.
28:12So Henry and Gregor were both 16 months old when they contracted swine flu.
28:17Gregor affected him a lot more.
28:19Poor Gregor had to go off in the ambulance by himself.
28:22And I just remember trying to follow the ambulance.
28:25I was just at the foot of this hill and in the distance I could see these little blue lights
28:29flashing.
28:30And that was obviously Gregor.
28:32So even now when I'm going up that hill.
28:35I'm sorry.
28:41Gregor was in intensive care for 36 days.
28:43So it was a really long stint.
28:45So it was obviously very poorly.
28:46And he was so little.
28:48He was only 16 months old.
28:49So seeing him lying there with all the tubes.
28:51It was awful because there was nothing we could do to help him.
28:54We just had to hope that he would recover and fight the infection that he had.
28:59Are these their first shoes?
29:00This makes me sad because these are their first shoes.
29:04It's not a perfect record.
29:06Because he wasn't walking.
29:09Henry took his first steps in the corridor of the hospital.
29:12And I should have had another child on the other hand doing the same thing.
29:17Going back to seeing a neurologist the next day, she was like...
29:21Sorry, I've looked at the MRI. It's not good. He's got brain damage.
29:26I can't tell you what he will or will not be able to do.
29:29It's just that he won't be the same little boy again.
29:31So that was really hard.
29:34I can't even imagine what it was like to have that conversation.
29:36Yeah.
29:37Where's Gregor gone?
29:39Gregor!
29:40Oh, is there? Is there?
29:42Oh, perfect. Just where I hoped you would be.
29:45It must be difficult seeing all the kids reach their milestone.
29:50Every time Henry did something, I was thinking, why isn't Gregor better?
29:53But I've got to look at... He's still amazing.
29:55He's different to the way I thought he was going to be.
29:57But he's got so much character. He's so brave. He's so tolerant.
30:00So you've just got to look at that and think, well, he's an amazing boy.
30:03I think you are really amazing at looking at the best and moving forward.
30:10But I also don't think you're very good at saying, I've done a really good job.
30:15They're all so happy. You have done that. And Chris and Stuart.
30:19Yeah, yeah.
30:20But I don't think you give yourself enough credit.
30:24Mm-hmm.
30:27Really good.
30:32Now that I've got to know Mary a little bit more, she makes so much sense to me.
30:35She has had, like, these huge life events happen to her and she hasn't faced them
30:39because that was how she dealt with surviving.
30:42And she has had to just keep pushing forward all the time.
30:45Would you like to have photos up now?
30:47Definitely, yeah.
30:48I want to be able to celebrate things now rather than just, like, put them in a box.
30:52We need to get some more family photos and put them up.
30:57Right, it's our last half an hour, so let's go.
31:00Everyone, grab a barrow, grab a box.
31:03Mary, don't you run down there with the suitcases.
31:05There's 192 shoes here.
31:08So much shoes.
31:10These have got to go.
31:12Three pairs so far.
31:14This is good.
31:17Very last minute.
31:19Guys.
31:22Be careful.
31:24Be careful.
31:25Oh, my gosh.
31:27That's it.
31:27Yes.
31:28Day one done.
31:29That is such a great first day.
31:31You should be really proud of yourselves.
31:34I think this is something they've probably wanted to do for years and years and years.
31:38But I don't think they've ever had a moment to just stop, breathe and tackle the clutter.
31:44And when you walk into the warehouse, it's really overwhelming.
31:47It's daunting and it's scary.
31:48But they did do really, really well.
31:50Right, let's get some dinner.
31:51Let's get out of here.
31:53Let's get out of here.
31:54That's pretty impressive, isn't it?
32:03Well done for yesterday.
32:05There's a huge amount that's gone.
32:06Though most of the family let go of lots of their clutter yesterday.
32:10We've got two golf bags, one of which is completely empty.
32:13Yep, that one can go.
32:14With one day left in the warehouse.
32:16Gosh, this is like retro stuff.
32:18It is a really retro one.
32:20Dilly's turning her attention to a particular culprit.
32:23One foam roller.
32:24One foam roller.
32:25We've got one there.
32:26So that can definitely go.
32:28That can go.
32:28Why did these boxes never get unpacked?
32:30Never made the time, really, to go through and get rid of it.
32:33It just never became a priority, really.
32:35Yeah.
32:35Moved in after a year together, got married after another year.
32:39Rosie arrived another year after that, so there was always something happening.
32:43And here we are.
32:44Here we are, yeah.
32:45The rest, as they say, is history.
32:46The rest is history.
32:48When you first moved in, what was it like, you know, joining a ready-made family
32:52of four?
32:53Very, very different.
32:54But in a sort of weird way, it felt quite natural.
32:57Yeah.
32:57So you were probably, like, without it really realising, you were quite paternal.
33:02Yeah, yeah.
33:02That's right.
33:03You didn't realise.
33:05I remember when I first met the children, I started to gather butterflies a little bit.
33:09I thought, oh, oh, oh, you're doing something quite significant.
33:14And so I pulled up at the house, and Millie and Henry were in the street, and they were
33:17throwing a tennis ball.
33:19And as I got out of the car, they threw me the ball and said, you've got to hit the
33:22tennis racket with the ball.
33:23And I thought, oh, actually, that's okay, I can do that.
33:27Yay!
33:28Great North Runner.
33:30From that moment, it didn't feel forced.
33:32You know, I just wanted to carry on with that, really, and, you know, be a, you know,
33:38part of another chapter.
33:39And you came with your boxes?
33:41Maybe that's one of the things that helped me fit in, was that I was already cluttered.
33:45You were already chaos.
33:45I was already full of chaos.
33:47Pull out the photographs, but anything else, be ruthless.
33:53Ewan!
33:54Need that bubble wrap for this TV, mate.
33:56In search of a solution.
33:58This room's giving me a headache, Rob.
34:00I just don't know what we're going to do with it.
34:02Rob's got an idea to build a proper family living room.
34:06The only way we're going to be able to create the space is if we remove this fireplace.
34:11If that is gone, this could be sofa, and this could be bigger sofa.
34:16We could get more than those two-seaters in this section.
34:18Yes, this is what I'm saying.
34:19As soon as that goes, we have a room full of options.
34:22That is a challenge in a half, Rob.
34:24Well, you know me, I love a challenge.
34:27OK, this one.
34:28No, let it go.
34:30This one.
34:31No, let it go.
34:32This one.
34:33No.
34:35Powering on in the warehouse.
34:37This one.
34:38No, let it go.
34:40Dili's found herself a new protégé.
34:42What do we think about the Barbie house?
34:45Yeah, that can go.
34:50Right, well done.
34:51You are very strong.
34:53Look at the size of this pile.
34:56Two sections down, and there's still racks of clothes to sort through.
35:00And Dili's usually on the money for what's in vogue.
35:03I love fashion, I love clothes, but I don't like people having too many clothes.
35:07Tell me, would I pass as a Gen Z person?
35:10I think you could, yeah.
35:11Yeah.
35:11Like, the jeans maybe not, but I like, I think they look good on you.
35:15What?
35:15That's horrible.
35:15I'm not criticising, I think they look good on you.
35:17No, no, no, I like it.
35:18But I'm just saying, people our age don't usually wear, like, rolled-up jeans.
35:21Yeah.
35:21I think in 2020 they did.
35:23In...
35:24Because it was a little...
35:25Sorry.
35:27I love it, I love it.
35:28What about your clothes?
35:29Do you sell them?
35:30I'm going to sell some of my things, I think.
35:32Are there any jeans from 2020 that we might be able to get rid of in here?
35:35These, like, skinny jeans.
35:37I just never wore them.
35:38They're very 2020.
35:39Like...
35:40Yeah, maybe 2016 even.
35:412016.
35:42Yeah.
35:42I've got a hack for selling.
35:44Yeah?
35:44Yes.
35:45If you search up the item that you've uploaded, and then you go to the likes of the item that
35:49you've got the same as, you follow all of them.
35:52They look on your account and then they see the thing that they've liked and then they
35:55buy it.
35:56I did sell a lot.
35:57I made a lot of money in year 10 from detail.
35:59I bet you sold a lot in 2020.
36:00Yeah.
36:01Back on trend.
36:03Don't wear any of it.
36:07It's nearly the end.
36:09Tilly is ready to make her comeback.
36:12I'm coming for your clutter.
36:17Let's look.
36:19There are.
36:25Is the car track staying?
36:27I didn't know we had it.
36:30What else do I need to get?
36:32All right.
36:36Three, two, one.
36:39That's it.
36:40Yeah.
36:42Well done.
36:43Oh, I love it.
36:45Oh my gosh.
36:46Look at that pile.
36:47That is sensational.
36:49after two challenging days the family have successfully managed to cut their belongings
36:54by almost 60 percent you've done amazingly so should we get out of here yeah let's say
36:59goodbye to the clutter don't step back on those no more clutter
37:08hurry up it's raining it's 9am and we have to get the mammon rose possessions back into their
37:16house pronto where have you got to on all of your projects well let's start with down here long day
37:34you've come in off my feet and then you just sit down here on this beautiful lovely seat i love
37:41that is this storage yep i'm just going to draw front to do massive because thick dillian this
37:54that's it don't sit on me
38:07first up rob and i are combining our carpentry and style skills
38:11hold the pencil and then draw along okay to construct a sequined wall panel for rose's room
38:17we can finally do the sequins yes we can imagine this so if we wrap this around and then we
38:25hang
38:25it on the wall and it's going to look like a beautiful sequined wall if this doesn't stretch
38:30properly it'll be saggy yeah exactly i know what's saggy okay coming in oh it's so pretty isn't it
38:38this looks good if you've got some tumble dryer sheets that you've used pop one over the end of
38:46your vacuum cleaner and then add a hair tie or elastic band then you can just make a tiny little
38:52hole in
38:54there the dryer sheet is really good at picking up the dust and it has a lovely fragrance too you
39:00can
39:01just go along your skirting boards with it oh it smells so good as well while dilly's put in a
39:09basket
39:10to good use in the living room items like this that might not be that slightly i'm going to pop
39:16into
39:16here part the wicker and slide your cable through plug that into your item how neat is that that is
39:24so
39:24much nicer than looking at your ugly box rob's converting the standard door into a door with
39:34a difference instead of having it swinging out into the space i want to turn it into a sliding door
39:39that also doubles as a bookcase so we're getting storage as well i'll be able to securely attach the
39:46track to this wall hang my door everything's good in the garage you ends up cycling some storage
39:54for the chill out zone we're going to utilize some of this shelving but i do want to transform these
40:00so they're more cool teen hangout i can't believe i just called it a cool teen hangout that just
40:05immediately made it not cool you just want to go on in light light mists then we don't get the
40:11drips
40:13oh this color looks so good these are not garage shelves anymore they're teen hangout shelves right onwards
40:23to make the most of gregor's room i'm working on a super-sized interactive storybook so i've got
40:29these massive frames covered it in felt so anyone who comes into gregor's room can open up this giant
40:36storybook and make up their own story and it's just a really lovely way to connect i feel with gregor
40:42on
40:42a big scale in a really sensory way get a strip of velcro which is super cheap shove a bit
40:48of glue on the
40:49velcro stick it on your character and then bob's your uncle dog's walking by the pond i am currently
40:58organizing all of gregor's medication and supplies this is the most important room in the house for
41:03me trying to create systems so that everyone can find everything easily
41:10downstairs ewan's finishing off a mural inspired by the outside landscape
41:16oh
41:18is it giving the outdoors is it giving the rolling yorkshire dales yeah it is this is your i'm going
41:26on a challenging hike yeah might need to pack a sandwich i get tired by the time i get to
41:31about
41:31then this artist's work is done okay all right then you are definitely an artist you're about
41:35as dramatic as one it's gone to my head yeah i think it has we've made a monster
41:42to keep everyone's morale high i've got a little treat for my hard-working team
41:46dilly ewan rob are you here yeah what's up oh this is just what we needed and i thought this
41:57is
41:57exactly what dilly will like it's a spam fritter we have got a lot to do right so if we
42:05eat lunch
42:05quickly yeah i don't want to get into jest yeah that's what i'm dealing with this is the kind of
42:11rubbish i've got to deal with on a daily base
42:17re-energized rob's adding a sleek divider to his partition frame to separate the chill out area from
42:23the garage i'm putting in the last piece and that's this sliding door as you can see it's a bit
42:30fiddly to put in let's take a look you slide in nicely oh that glides sweet
42:42i've just gone guinea got it in rose's room this is the very last sequin panel i'm installing her new
42:51wall using a convenient hanging fixture fringe cleats are like interlocking two interlocking
42:57pieces of wood so they won't go anywhere there are literally three bits of wood and they fit in
43:02like a puzzle and yeah once it's on it's not coming off the best thing is that if rosie outgrows
43:08this
43:08in a few years time you can change the material rosie is going to love this so much it's glorious
43:15while rob repurposes some bookcases in gregor's room
43:21downstairs i'm up cycling some unwanted cds
43:24i'm going to cut these up sprinkle them over the table in some kind of pattern
43:28and then put some perspex on top and make a cd top for this table it sounds ridiculous but i
43:35think
43:35it's going to be really cool millie and henry were telling me that they've got no communal space where
43:39they can just like chill watch movies and hang out and then the adults can chill upstairs in the front
43:44room so everyone wins the last two pieces to put in this is just a piece of perspex that i've
43:51cut to
43:51side so i'm gonna put a tiny blob of glue just in the corners i'm sorry but how cool does
43:57that look
43:58come on put your drinks on the music
44:04with the fireplace successfully removed from the living room rob can finish off his newly created
44:09space now look at this for a transformation we've now got options in this space the skirting's on
44:16replaced all of this matched the molding scribed it in and now my last task is to try and match
44:24this
44:25it's the final push and while ewan scrubs a nice stencil
44:30dilly's putting gregor's newly painted bookshelves to good use
44:34we know that gregor loves his puppets so i'm using these kitchen roll towel holders they're great for puppets
44:44gregor's gonna be able to lie in bed and look at his favorite puppets on the shelf it's the perfect
44:49eye line it's gonna make him so happy they're so cute rob's attaching his sliding door in the living
44:57room you go up the drive and i'll turn around and go backwards okay and there's one final piece of
45:02heavy lifting before the house is complete pivot pivot i'm basically pulling out the stairs what are
45:09you doing there we go come on whoa come on let's go go go go come on go on get
45:19go on get back into it
45:21right we need to go go go go team all right yeah is that us is that it bring it
45:28in i wish i got i am
45:31a sweaty mess i'm a sweaty mess
45:41how are you guys how are you guys how have you found it rosie good you had a dream didn't
45:50you yeah
45:50what was your dream you made our rooms look nice and then you just said right now i have to
45:56put it
45:56back to what it looks like at the start that doesn't sound like a dream rosie that sounds like an
46:01absolute
46:01nightmare thank you should we go in and see the house i have been so excited for you to come
46:06home
46:06oh my gosh i'm like so excited welcome home go go go oh my word wow wow surprise this is
46:19amazing
46:22just seven days ago this downstairs room had become a storage space now it's been decluttered
46:29decorated and rearranged as a music room this is a proper room this is like this is a really nice
46:38room this could be a room for everyone just to play their instruments funny you should say that because
46:42that's exactly what we were and we wanted to create a space that when you walk through your front door
46:47you're excited to be home yeah so you and actually painted that mural on the wall he tried to draw
46:53inspiration from the actual view out of the window of the hills i love it it's so vibrant
46:59love it could actually sit and have room to play as well rather than like hide under the storage as
47:04well inside oh that's so good all your instruments other than your beautiful mom's piano which is pride of
47:13place now look what's an egregor good yeah thank you first room two come upstairs right welcome to your
47:27living room yes very nice a real living room just a week ago the living room was a disorganized thoroughfare
47:40we've reconfigured the room to create a multi-functional space that the whole family can enjoy together
47:49i love it this is cool that is that's that's so smart as well rob is literally a genius that
47:57is brilliant
47:58you had so many photos and none of them were all hidden away do you need to look back at
48:04your memories
48:04with fondness not sadness i think that's something i just hadn't done up until now so yeah and there's
48:10loads of you there stuart we were determined to get you up and out in the house no it's brilliant
48:16it
48:16really is and then you've got access to the lift and when gregor gets off the lift there's loads of
48:21space for him to come through that's that's genius it really is and we just thought if it's a corner
48:26so far hopefully you can all pile onto it yeah yeah and then gregor can be here yeah and it's
48:32a space
48:32for all of you to be together yeah rather than kind of two at a time yeah shall we get
48:38those kids
48:38up here i think we should kids yeah we're just having a biscuit sorry oh that's much more important
48:51gregor gregor this is so cool i need to know can you all fit on the sofa should we see
48:57should we see i'm on the beanbag i'm not moving and gregor next to the sofa yes you love it
49:03this is
49:04brilliant you can rest your legs somebody my weary legs my weary bones this is fantastic welcome back to
49:11your new room since swapping rooms with millie rose's bedroom was in limbo
49:31now it's been rearranged to better reflect her tastes delia has organized all of your arts and
49:38crafts yeah crafting i do do a lot of crafting i know this looks just like my dream room oh
49:49that
49:49makes me happy rosie this is so organized thank you you're so welcome that was the best thing to
49:59watch ever do you love it yeah okay gregor your marks come in get set to your new room
50:09oh wow a week ago gregor's bedroom was focused on function
50:21now it's been transformed to reflect all of his favorite things
50:28these are your bookcases so this one was already here and rob just fixed it up we painted it and
50:36he
50:36added like these rooftops to try and make this look like the rooftops and the stars in the sky above
50:41there's like little beach cups almost yeah isn't it i like it they're just your wardrobes with a little
50:47pitch roof on the top and we've organized all of your books all of your puppets this is a giant
50:55story
50:56book these are just picture frames that i glued some felt onto so the front of it is this lovely
51:02space
51:02theme it opens up it opens up and it's space on the front countryside farm on the right hand side
51:10inside he likes that do you want to see it when the lights are off three two two one
51:24look at all the stars can you see them you see all the lights everywhere
