00:00You ever watch a movie and, the second the credits roll, you're just sitting there mouth open, head spinning thinking,
00:06wait, what the hell did I just watch?
00:08Yeah.
00:09That was me after watching the new I Know What You Did last summer.
00:12And not in a good way.
00:13I mean, I was hyped.
00:15Legacy characters coming back?
00:17The original vibe?
00:19Southport, fishing slickers, secrets?
00:22I was all in.
00:23But then, the twist hit.
00:25And not like a punch to the gut.
00:26But, more like a paper cut you don't feel until it's already annoying the crap out of you.
00:31So here's the deal.
00:32If you haven't seen the movie, don't worry I'm walking you through everything.
00:36And even if you have, you might want to stick around.
00:39Because I don't think anyone's saying this part loud enough, this twist, this big dramatic reveal they tried to pull
00:45off, it had potential.
00:47It had teeth.
00:48But instead of biting, it kind of, sighed?
00:51I don't know how else to say it.
00:53Okay, so we're back in Southport.
00:55Ocean breeze.
00:57Moody skies.
00:58That same quiet town where secrets rot under the surface.
01:01Right away, it feels familiar.
01:03Like that eerie comfort of going home and realizing it still kind of smells like your childhood nightmares.
01:09They give us throwbacks, little callbacks for the real fans.
01:12Yeah, you know who you are the ones who watched the originals on VHS and probably still check their rear
01:17view mirror every time they drive past a curve.
01:20And boom Jennifer Love Hewitt is back.
01:22Freddie Prinze Jr. is back.
01:24Julie and Ray.
01:25I won't lie I grinned.
01:27Seeing them again after all these years?
01:29It felt like a warm hug, right before that hug turns into a choke hold.
01:33Because the ending?
01:35Man.
01:36That twist.
01:37Ray.
01:38Freaking.
01:38Is.
01:39The.
01:40Killer.
01:40Now, I know what some people are saying.
01:43But it's brilliant.
01:45It's tragic.
01:46It's deep.
01:47And maybe it could have been.
01:48But not the way they did it.
01:50Not with that motive.
01:52Not with that build up.
01:53Because let me be real with you, it didn't land.
01:56It didn't hit.
01:57It just kinda, confused.
01:59Let's back up.
02:01So there's this new group, right?
02:03Younger cast.
02:04They're vibing, partying, doing dumb reckless things just like the original crew.
02:09One of them, Stevie, loses her best friend in this crash.
02:12Carve ears off a cliff.
02:14People panic.
02:15Cover up happens.
02:17Sound familiar?
02:18It's the same old we killed someone and now we have to pretend we didn't recipe.
02:22Classic.
02:23Comfort food horror.
02:25But here's the twist they add this revenge angle.
02:27Stevie finds out her friend died because of what this group did.
02:30So she decides to take them out, one by one.
02:34Classic slasher justice.
02:35But she's not doing it alone.
02:37No, no.
02:39She's got help.
02:40And that's when they drop it Ray is her accomplice.
02:43Yep.
02:43Good ol' Ray, from the original movies.
02:46The one who barely said 10 words back then.
02:48Now he's killing people.
02:50Just, casually.
02:52Why?
02:53Because he never dealt with the trauma.
02:55Because he's tired of Southport trying to erase the past.
02:58Because he didn't get therapy.
03:00Because, he's a man who can't cry?
03:03I'm not even joking.
03:04That's what they said.
03:05That's what Freddie Prinze Jr. literally explained in an interview.
03:09And look I get it.
03:10Trauma is real.
03:11Bottling up emotions is dangerous.
03:14But you're telling me that the guy who survived a psycho fisherman with a hook,
03:17supported his girlfriend through PTSD,
03:20and then moved on with life,
03:21snaps after 25 years because the town's trying to rebrand as a tourist spot?
03:25I mean, come on.
03:27Let me break it down like this,
03:29his motive feels shallow.
03:31Like, real shallow.
03:33Like kiddie pool shallow.
03:34His performance is suspicious from the start.
03:37No build up.
03:38No mystery.
03:39Just weird looks and weird vibes.
03:41And worst of all,
03:42he wasn't even the right legacy character to twist.
03:45And that brings me to the real missed opportunity.
03:48The one that would have made this reboot unforgettable.
03:50The one that would have made people scream in theaters.
03:53Julie James.
03:54Yes.
03:55Her.
03:56Not Ray.
03:57Not some background boyfriend.
03:59Julie should have been the killer.
04:01Think about it.
04:02Just think for a second.
04:03She's the one who never catches a break.
04:05She's the one the killer always comes after.
04:08In the first movie,
04:09she's haunted.
04:10In the sequel,
04:11she's stalked.
04:12And now in this new one,
04:14her ex-husband is the murderer.
04:16Again.
04:17She can't even have a conversation without some masked psycho
04:20showing up at her front door.
04:21And we're supposed to believe Ray cracked first?
04:23Nah.
04:24Not buying it.
04:26Julie is the heart of this franchise.
04:27She's been through hell.
04:29She's seen friends die.
04:31She's lived in fear.
04:32She's isolated.
04:33She's jumpy.
04:35She's traumatized.
04:36And you can see it on her face.
04:38There's this one scene she's at home,
04:40alone,
04:41checking her security system like every five seconds.
04:44One noise,
04:45and she's on edge.
04:46That's someone who never healed.
04:48That's someone who's been carrying something heavy for years.
04:51So why didn't they let her snap?
04:53Why didn't they let her wear the slicker?
04:55Why didn't they give the final girl the final say?
04:58Imagine the twist.
04:59Julie James,
05:00sweet Julie,
05:01the survivor,
05:02the victim,
05:03finally turns.
05:04Not because she's evil.
05:05Not because she's psychotic.
05:07But because she's done.
05:09Because no one protected her.
05:11Because the town moved on.
05:12Because no matter how much therapy or healing or pretending,
05:15the ghosts never left her.
05:17That right there?
05:18That's not just a plot twist.
05:20That's poetry.
05:21And if they really wanted to go bold,
05:23imagine this,
05:24Julie and Ray,
05:25together.
05:26Partners.
05:27Co-killers.
05:28A Bonnie and Clyde situation.
05:30Two broken souls.
05:32Two people who went through the same nightmare,
05:34and finally decide to stop running and start haunting.
05:37That would have been insane.
05:38That would have been iconic.
05:40But no.
05:41Instead,
05:41we got,
05:42Ray.
05:43Brooding,
05:44mumbly,
05:45Ray.
05:45And Stevie,
05:46who,
05:47to be honest,
05:48was kind of a predictable pick.
05:49No hate to the actress.
05:51She did great,
05:51but her storyline felt like a checklist.
05:54Tragic backstory?
05:55Check.
05:56Mental breakdown?
05:57Check.
05:58One by one revenge murders?
06:00Double check.
06:01And look I get what they were trying to do.
06:03They wanted to honor the original.
06:05Bring in the old cast.
06:07Mix it with new blood.
06:08Give us something familiar with a twist.
06:10But a twist only works when it twists.
06:13This one felt like it bent slightly,
06:15then just kind of flopped over.
06:17You could even feel it in the theater.
06:19People shifted in their seats.
06:20One guy literally whispered,
06:22Wait,
06:23that's it?
06:23And yeah.
06:24That was it.
06:25Now,
06:26don't get me wrong.
06:27I'm not here to just trash the whole movie.
06:29There were moments.
06:31Brandy's cameo as Carla?
06:33Chef's kiss.
06:34The moody visuals?
06:35Gorgeous.
06:36That tension in the second act?
06:38Solid.
06:38But when you anchor everything on it whist,
06:41you have to make it worth it.
06:42And the truth is,
06:44Ray just didn't cut it.
06:45So now we're left with a movie that almost did something brave.
06:48Almost said something powerful about memory,
06:51trauma,
06:51and how pain can twist us in ways we don't even see coming.
06:54But instead of going all the way,
06:56it pulled back.
06:58Played it safe.
06:59Gave us a twist we saw coming,
07:00for a reason we didn't believe.
07:02And that hurts.
07:03Because this franchise?
07:05It deserves better.
07:06I'm not just talking as a fan of horror.
07:08I'm talking as someone who grew up with these stories.
07:11Who watched them late at night,
07:13curled up under a blanket,
07:15terrified of coastal towns and fishermen.
07:17These movies meant something.
07:19And when they bring them back,
07:20they shouldn't just reboot.
07:22They should evolve.
07:23So here's my take.
07:24If they're gonna keep making these,
07:26if this is gonna become a thing again,
07:27go harder.
07:28Don't play it safe.
07:30Don't just give us nostalgia with a fresh coat of paint.
07:33Dig deeper.
07:34Twist the knife.
07:35Show us what really happens when someone never gets over what they did last summer.
07:39Because let's be honest,
07:41we all have something we never got over.
07:43Something we buried.
07:44Something we hope no one ever finds out about.
07:47And that's where the real horror lives.
07:49Now I wanna hear from you.
07:51Was I the only one who felt this way?
07:53Did the twist hit for you?
07:54Or were you also sitting there like,
07:56Seriously?
07:57That's the best they could do?
07:59Drop a comment.
08:00I wanna hear your unfiltered thoughts.
08:02And if you haven't already hit that like button,
08:04smash subscribe,
08:05and share this with someone who needs a good rant about horror movies.
08:09We're building something here.
08:11A space where horror fans,
08:12old and new,
08:13can talk,
08:14argue,
08:15vent,
08:16celebrate.
08:16A place where your voice actually matters.
08:19So don't just scroll past.
08:21Be part of it.
08:22This is our scary little corner of the internet
08:24and I'm so glad you're in it with me.
08:26Until next time watch your back.
08:28And remember,
08:29just because it's buried doesn't mean it's gone.
