00:00But at 26, I think you had Dylan Thienemann going,
00:03and he was still on the board when you had the Bears passing on him.
00:08Do you think if he's on the board,
00:09how would you evaluate the need for safety versus the need for edge rusher?
00:14Well, I mean, I think the need for defensive line as a whole,
00:21like you've got to build it from the back out or the front out, right?
00:28You've got to get better in the trenches.
00:30Like what was the impetus in year one for Ben Johnson and Ryan Poles
00:36that was getting better on the offensive line?
00:39And they made an effort.
00:40Let's not pretend like they ignored the defensive line a year ago.
00:44It was just some of those guys got injured.
00:47So they've got to continue to focus on the defensive line, I think,
00:52if you want to shore up a unit which was solid at times.
00:59Like they played good run defense, I thought,
01:02against the Rams in that playoff game.
01:04But there are too many incidences during the season.
01:08You talk about the game right after Christmas at San Francisco.
01:13You talk about the Green Bay game before that,
01:17where the Packers went for Buck 92, Pittsburgh ran all over them.
01:24There are just too many instances where they were not stout up front.
01:30And so if you see a guy in a position that's not on the defensive line
01:37and you want to go with him, that's fine
01:40because you can never shy away from taking the best football player.
01:44You can't run away from a guy that you feel total conviction.
01:50Hey, three years from now, this guy's going to be a stud for us.
01:54Like if that guy's there, you've got to take him.
01:57But absent that guy, they've got to get better in the trenches.
