00:00The European Union could be entering a new phase of decision-making
00:04following Hungary's opposition leader, Peter Maja's victory.
00:08Deputy Chief Executive of the European Policy Center, Yanis Emanuelidis,
00:13says long-standing gridlock within the bloc may soon ease,
00:17particularly on key issues like support for Ukraine and institutional reform.
00:23Well, first the new government will have to come into place,
00:26but then there are certain files which need to move on very quickly.
00:30The first and most important one is the $90 billion loan to Ukraine,
00:35where there has been an obstruction from Orban and his government,
00:39where the expectation is that a compromise will be found,
00:42that the problems will be overcome.
00:45And I think that then there is an expectation from the EU side
00:48that Hungary will enter a path of reform,
00:51will try to move back to being a pluralist liberal democracy,
00:56and that this will be something which the government,
00:59the new government in Hungary, will be pushing forward rather quickly.
01:03And the fact that they now have a strong majority in parliament,
01:05a very strong majority, will allow them to do so.
01:09And the final thing is that often member states were hiding behind Viktor Orban.
01:13His obstruction, his veto at the European Union level,
01:18at the highest political level in the European Council,
01:20has also been an easy way for others to argue
01:24we cannot go further than we would want to
01:27because we are being obstructed by Viktor Orban and his government.
01:31Now this argument will no longer be flying.
01:34So that could also put pressure on the EU and other member states
01:38to further advance when it comes to reforming the European Union.
01:41and why are you still pushing the Coloss box statements a bit
01:41on the European Union?
01:42There's a good word right now.
