00:00Hey!
00:01Hey!
00:02How are you?
00:03Pandora!
00:04Pandora!
00:05What you need to do is get control of Pandora.
00:07If dogs go wild...
00:10They are absolutely nuts.
00:13Is the dog around?
00:15I can't control them.
00:17Come on now, big boy.
00:18Nathan thinks he can read.
00:20Do you really care?
00:21He can't.
00:22He's a dog.
00:23Of course he can.
00:24And get up.
00:25Oh, here we go.
00:26No, get down.
00:27To no good.
00:28It's always me now, is it?
00:29Or down.
00:30Oh, no.
00:31And dirty.
00:32He loves a big, large crap.
00:35Oh.
00:36Tank likes to rub his boy parts.
00:39What is going on with you, Tank?
00:41When pups...
00:42I wonder what we're going to learn today.
00:44...need to be schooled.
00:46Three, two, one.
00:47That's it.
00:48Fantastic.
00:49Look at that.
00:50Or if your pooch...
00:52He's dropped one.
00:53He got a whiff.
00:54...has a personal problem.
00:56Some dogs have bacterias that are gas-producing.
00:59Just in case.
01:01One man...
01:02Hey, look at that.
01:04...will give it his all.
01:06Jack!
01:07Oi!
01:08Leave it.
01:09...and get answers...
01:10I think I might know what's going on, and it's not what you think.
01:12...to any doggy dilemma.
01:14Yeah, that's next level, isn't it?
01:20This week...
01:21A four-pack...
01:23No!
01:24For God's sake!
01:25...of jealous monsters...
01:27Yeah, I'm flying.
01:29...could get their mum evicted.
01:31Hey, stop!
01:32Unless you can sort it out.
01:33I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
01:35A real screamer...
01:37I thought somebody was being strangled.
01:39Driving a couple apart...
01:42I tend to walk behind them.
01:44I don't want to get involved.
01:46I hate you for walking off and leaving me.
01:48...and Graham discovers...
01:50The first groom is so important.
01:52...how to prep your pup for the groomers.
01:55I'm going to slowly touch her body.
01:57...and what to do about worrying lumps.
02:00Hello, Basil.
02:01So it does feel quite firm.
02:03It feels quite hard.
02:04We're hoping for the best now.
02:06Yeah, fingers crossed.
02:07Fantastic.
02:13There you go.
02:14You know, I absolutely love dogs...
02:17...and I'm very lucky...
02:18...because I get to do something every day...
02:20...that I'm really passionate about.
02:22Erm, and you know what they say...
02:24...choose a job you love...
02:25...and you never have to work a day in your life, do you?
02:28And someone who has that in droves...
02:31...is Graham's first case in Melksham, Wiltshire.
02:34Kish!
02:35Jump!
02:36Good girl.
02:37There we go.
02:38Where Marie shares her home...
02:40...with an adorable Pekingese four-pack.
02:43Mwah!
02:45There's Roscoe, Peewee, Wurzel and Kish.
02:50My daughter surprised me with Kish, the first one...
02:53...and it kind of just snowballed.
02:59Her furry foursome even join her at the office.
03:03I am a dog groomer.
03:04I've had my own business for 20 years this year.
03:07Come on, man!
03:09I just love dogs.
03:10Dogs are my life.
03:12Right?
03:13Yeah!
03:14This should be doggy heaven.
03:16Oh, Kish!
03:17But when a four-legged client pops in...
03:20Hiya!
03:21Hello, Marie!
03:22...it turns to...
03:25...doggy hell.
03:30Get in a bit!
03:34No!
03:35I've had enough.
03:36Be quiet.
03:40When the customers actually come through the door...
03:42Here we go!
03:43...they just literally bark.
03:46No!
03:47For God's sake!
03:48Pack it in!
03:49And it's very difficult when you've got a customer's dog...
03:51...either in your arms or trying to lead it to the table.
03:53They're fighting and I've got to somehow intervene.
03:56Hey!
03:57Hey!
03:58Hey!
03:59No!
04:00For God's sake!
04:02Just be quiet.
04:06You're a good boy.
04:07Some of the dogs come in trembling because they kick off.
04:17Lee looks terrified, to be honest.
04:19She's not happy to be in the same room as them, definitely.
04:24Sorry about the noise and the barking.
04:26Can't wait to get out of here now, can you?
04:29Marie's hoping for a miracle.
04:31It's like doggy ma'am in there.
04:33Can Graham be her saviour?
04:35Come on!
04:36Good boy!
04:37Good boy!
04:38Good boy!
04:39Good boy!
04:40Come on!
04:41Hello!
04:42Hiya!
04:43Welcome!
04:44Well, thank you very much.
04:45It's quite a welcome.
04:46How come they're in separate panels then?
04:47Because Kish and Roscoe will attack either each other or the others.
04:52Really?
04:53You never know who's going to kick off first.
04:55It sounds like your mum knows!
04:56Hello!
04:57Hi!
04:58He's your mum!
04:59I don't want to show my Kish!
05:01Yes, Mum!
05:02There you go.
05:03Hello.
05:04There you go.
05:05He's a pretty boy, isn't he?
05:06Hello.
05:07Do you get this every time then?
05:08Yeah.
05:09Yeah.
05:10It's quite intense.
05:12OK.
05:13Thanks ever so much.
05:14Nice to meet you.
05:15Nice to meet you.
05:16That was a bit intense, really.
05:18Yeah.
05:19I shout at them and I don't like shouting at them.
05:22And I've always been renowned and other groomers have sent difficult dogs to me over the years.
05:26Really?
05:27Because I've always had the patience with them.
05:28Right.
05:29That's funny.
05:30So why can't I control my own?
05:32At this point, I can't take on new people.
05:35Because if I was a new customer coming into this, I wouldn't be bringing my dog back.
05:42But a business with no new customers potentially is a dying business.
05:45I agree.
05:46And I'm not quite sure where to go with it.
05:48Before Graham figures out how to turn things round at work, he wants to head back to Maurice
05:55to give everyone a chance to cool off.
05:58Oh, blimey.
05:59OK.
06:00Sorry.
06:01Oh, no.
06:02Stop.
06:03Oi.
06:04Pack him in.
06:05Hey.
06:06Come on, you lot.
06:07Come on.
06:08Moving swiftly on.
06:09No.
06:10Blimey.
06:11They kind of disgraced themselves there on that walk, didn't they?
06:14As always.
06:15Really?
06:16So as well as there being a problem in the salon, there's obviously a problem on walks.
06:21Any time those four dogs see any dog, it seems, they're kicking off.
06:25This is my home, just down here.
06:27Oh, the caravan.
06:28Yeah.
06:29OK.
06:30Yeah.
06:31Come on then.
06:32Oh.
06:33Oh, God.
06:34There's Gary, the landowner.
06:36He doesn't like the dogs barking on sight.
06:38Hiya.
06:39Hiya.
06:40Hello.
06:41You all right?
06:42Hello.
06:43How are you?
06:44Come on, Blimey.
06:45Oh, here we go.
06:46No.
06:47No.
06:48Come on.
06:49No.
06:50No.
06:51Right.
06:52Yeah, you take him in.
06:53I'll see you in a second, Marie, yeah?
06:54Come on, yeah.
06:55They're pretty barking, these dogs.
06:57Very.
06:58Problem is, is it's constant.
07:00We get a fair few complaints.
07:02We have kind of said that, really, unless you can sort it out, then I'm afraid she's going
07:06to be homeless.
07:07So it's been very disruptive.
07:08Very.
07:09Yeah.
07:10Very.
07:11Oh, dear.
07:12Right, all right.
07:13Thank you very much.
07:14Cheers, mate.
07:15Enjoy your walk.
07:16Nice to meet you.
07:17And if Gary's forced to give Marie and her four-pack marching orders...
07:20Hiya.
07:21Hello.
07:22...this family could be out of options.
07:26So, it seems like every walk you take is a step nearer to eviction, potentially.
07:32Yeah.
07:33It's scary.
07:34They are the reason I am living in the garavan.
07:36Oh, really?
07:37Tell me about that.
07:38Two years ago, I slipped a disc.
07:41I was unable to work.
07:42So, obviously, financially, it just got to a point where I couldn't afford a private rental.
07:48Right.
07:49The council wouldn't take a second look at it.
07:52Their line is that you'd have to go into a hostel for up to nine months anyway.
07:56But never dogs.
07:57You can't take dogs.
07:58And the only thing I could think was, what about a caravan?
08:02Getting rid of the dogs was never an option.
08:03Never an option.
08:04I'd never part with them.
08:06I can see why.
08:07You look at them now, look.
08:08I know.
08:09They're so adorable and angelic when there's no other dogs around.
08:12Yeah.
08:13Yeah.
08:14Yeah.
08:15I think I've seen that whole picture now.
08:17She's under threat of eviction because of these dogs that she loves so much.
08:21After everything she's been through.
08:23Good boy.
08:24It's affecting her life in every way you could imagine.
08:28I'll do my best.
08:30But for dogs, it's not going to be easy.
08:33But before Graham can stop Marie getting evicted, he's got to stop her four fur babies destroying her business.
08:42Can he turn these green-eyed monsters into perfect workmates?
08:51Graham solving dog owners' dilemmas from worrying lumps.
08:55So it does feel quite firm.
08:57To first-time nerves at the salon.
08:59I'm going to live up to smell first and then slowly.
09:02So she feels the vibrations.
09:03She feels the vibrations.
09:05And meets noisy gremlin Gizmo.
09:08Is that right?
09:09He's a bit vocal, this one.
09:11Whose blood-curdling cries are driving a couple apart.
09:15When he'd walk off and I'm left on my own with his screaming dog.
09:19I hate you.
09:27Graham's in Wiltshire with dog groomer Marie.
09:30Hiya!
09:31Who takes her beloved four-pack to work.
09:34No!
09:35For God's sake!
09:36But them losing it at customers could see her losing her business.
09:41Lee looks terrified.
09:43She's not happy.
09:44And her home.
09:45Unless you can sort it out, then I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
09:49It's scary, but I'd never part with them.
09:52Marie's refusing to give up on her beloved four-pack.
09:55But Graham believes the solution is closer to home than she thinks.
09:59Why do you think they react the way they do?
10:01It's actually been pointed out to me by a couple of friends.
10:04Are they protecting you?
10:05Oh, yeah.
10:06I've got a better one for you.
10:08OK.
10:09I think what you're seeing is not dogs who are being protective.
10:11You've got four dogs who are sort of furiously jealous.
10:14So a dog comes in, you pick the dog up, right?
10:17You talk to him, you put him on the table.
10:19So those customer dogs are getting loads of attention.
10:22And it's the moments when they get attention that these kick off.
10:26Oh.
10:27They get ignored.
10:28Or they get told off.
10:30Or they get told off.
10:31They just need to understand that when dogs are about,
10:34Mummy's still losing it.
10:35It makes, yeah, total sense.
10:38The jealousy side of it has kind of shocked me.
10:41But it is only once it's pointed out to you that you actually kind of realise
10:46how much I, I guess, reward that bad behaviour by shouting.
10:53And they're probably confused.
10:55And it's exactly this confusion Graham wants to fix.
10:59By showing Marie's four pack, they will get her love and attention,
11:03but only if they're good.
11:05So, I've got one of your customers coming.
11:08If at any point they kick off, we ignore them.
11:10That's the golden rule.
11:11OK.
11:12When they stop, we tell them,
11:14Good girl, good boy, and all that.
11:16And use the nail.
11:17OK.
11:18Will Graham's theory work?
11:19Aha.
11:20Hi.
11:21In practice?
11:22Right.
11:23Come on, Kizzy.
11:28As soon as Kizzy's in Marie's arms, they kick off.
11:35But instead of giving them what for,
11:39Marie must wait for the calm.
11:42Good girl, you stopped.
11:45Only then...
11:46Good girl.
11:48Can she show them...
11:49You've been very good.
11:50...the love.
11:51Well done.
11:52Lovely.
11:53Except I'd swap the like,
11:56Yay, woo, good girl, for like, good girl.
11:58Good boy.
11:59Oh, this is nice.
12:00OK, so totally...
12:01Which, when you think about it, is exactly what you do.
12:03With the customer's dogs.
12:05I am going to suggest we recreate what happens at the end of the session.
12:08Take her back to her owner.
12:10Oh, there we go.
12:11It seems Marie's precious pack are fast learners.
12:15They are.
12:16Dogs are being good.
12:17Realising they don't have to compete for mum's attention...
12:20There we go.
12:21...has left them...
12:22Well done, you didn't bark.
12:24...lost for words.
12:27Magic, so you've just given the dog to the owner,
12:30not peep out of them.
12:31Yeah.
12:32Is that a first?
12:33Yeah, I'm kind of speechless, really.
12:34OK.
12:35Well, we're definitely on the right track.
12:36In a good way, yeah.
12:38The key to success?
12:39Repetition.
12:40This time, Graham's taking a back seat.
12:42Can Marie manage solo?
12:44I think we need to push this a bit more.
12:46With one of their cutest and fiercest rivals.
12:50The dog is Trixie.
12:52Oh.
12:53Joyous.
12:54OK.
12:55Yeah.
12:56Are they likely to react to Trixie?
12:57I did her the other week.
12:58They went absolutely mental.
13:00All right.
13:01Not only will Trixie be a tougher challenge,
13:03Graham wants Marie to lavish more attention on her
13:06at the grooming table.
13:08I want you to do it now without walking over there.
13:10Keep it calm, like you have been.
13:12Last tip, as you look round, you can smile at them.
13:14OK.
13:15They read faces.
13:17It's all about sending signals out to four dogs all at once,
13:20whilst keeping hold of the face.
13:21Wow, OK.
13:22I knew it was me that needed training.
13:24For Marie, it's the ultimate test.
13:28Hiya.
13:29Come on, Trixie.
13:30Come on, Trix.
13:31Come on.
13:32There we go.
13:33On the table.
13:34They're going down already.
13:35By sticking.
13:36There we go.
13:37To the plan.
13:38Good girl, Kish.
13:39There we go.
13:40Good boy, Wizzle.
13:41Well done.
13:42Marie can get on with the job in hand.
13:43There we go.
13:44So we're on a winner, then?
13:45Definitely.
13:46That's amazing.
13:47Look how quiet they are now.
13:48They love it when you praise them.
13:49And I think the more you do this you're on a winner.
13:51Blown away.
13:53I just can't believe the difference and I'm already.
13:56But they're doing it.
13:57They love it when you praise them.
13:58And I think the more you do this, you're on a winner.
13:59Blown away.
14:00I just can't believe the difference in them already.
14:02But they just look for themselves.
14:03They do not believe them.
14:04Are they just paying attention to them?
14:05Well done.
14:06What do you think?
14:07Mm hmm.
14:08You know what's the reason they're going for?
14:09I'm not.
14:10I'm not.
14:11You're just going for them.
14:12believe the difference in them already if they're happy i'm happy hopefully i'll be able to take on
14:17new customers now but marie can't count her chickens yet no graham still needs to crack
14:23this four packs very bad behavior oh no stop outside the workplace i need to come back because
14:30this issue of the dogs reacting aggressively to other dogs really means that you know there's
14:37still that's right of eviction although graham's devoted his career to answering the calls of
14:46desperate dog owners all right let's see what we've got here then hi graham they also reach out our
14:52question to you is how do we groom him without causing him any pain good question with a whole
14:58host of questions completely unrelated to bad behavior he has really smelly bottom verb that's
15:05very genteel to help he's gathered a team of professionals working in veterinary medicine
15:12grooming he actually has a beautiful coat and pet nutrition i just want to watch how he's gonna eat
15:18this well i don't know what's in the water this week but loads of questions coming in about grooming
15:23an area graham is well versed in having just spent a day with groomer marie one that stood out to me
15:29was this one hi graham we're the umesi family i'm mum victoria i'm puppy i'm bertie and i'm rufus
15:38and this is our puppy truffle very good she's due to her first groom and we'd love to find out how
15:43to make it as stress-free as possible well that's a brilliant question because a puppy's first groom
15:48is so important it's going to leave a lasting impression and a bad first groom can put off dogs
15:54for life so graham's brought truffle and mum victoria to godalming to meet award-winning groomer
16:02kostin stoika who knows how to make sure a puppy's first doggy salon trip is a good one hello oh lovely
16:11hello hiya hi victoria lovely to meet you so we have here truffle
16:16the first groom is so important for them the earlier they come the more calmer they are here
16:25we notice like oh dogs that come like like nine ten months they're way more stressed than puppies
16:31so how old is so she's 13 weeks 13 a week so clearly though she can go upside down so i always
16:37recommend once they have the last vaccination they have to start grooming straight away kostin's first
16:44tip is a simple one the sooner you take your pup to the groomers the easier it becomes but only
16:50after they've had their second jabs usually between 10 and 12 weeks old your bathroom i know i haven't
16:56actually you haven't you know we've been brushing her quite a bit amazing that's so important brushing
17:01combi is really important so it's so important handling at home but brushing is not the only thing
17:06you can do at home to prepare your pup i'm gonna ask to use electric to brush okay
17:11you desensitize the puppy from the clippers once your puppy is comfortable with the sound and
17:19sensation of a toothbrush this is like a like your husband yeah yeah you can move on to something
17:26closer to a groomer's clippers i'm gonna leave up to smell first and then slowly try to touch her body
17:34oh i see so she feels a vibration she feels a vibration and i always say good girl
17:45so how do we introduce scissors to again put my uh hands so i don't hey yeah what's that good girl
17:53so do these things at home and then when you get your puppies the groomer the puppy's going oh yeah
17:58exactly with truffle familiar with some of the sights smells and feelings of a groom it's time for
18:04the first trim so they're not left feeling overwhelmed it's still baby steps presumably
18:10because today is the first groom yes yes you're just gonna do a little bit my goal is always to clip
18:16up on the coat but that depends how the dogs behave on a first groom it's not about giving your pup a full
18:23makeover just tidying the bits that need a trim in truffle's case her paws so we go do the face to
18:31mommy going there like that we'll see how she reacts the trimmers on the on her pads sometimes they
18:38can be really ticklish good girl good girl
18:45so we just just cut it good girl good girl that's in my face you've done that before i know
19:00we're just gonna leave the hair from the floor so when she goes outside and it's wet and muddy
19:04doesn't bring all the mud and water into the house because they'll fit there like sponges and that's
19:09not the only area of their feet that costume believes should be given attention i always recommend
19:15to everyone bring them for nail clipping to us because you must have trimmed tens of thousands
19:20of nails in your time if they bleed it's a big no because they're gonna hate it all their life
19:27we have dogs that we have to have like three people holding the dog with the owner yeah
19:34good girl well done perfect so really you're taking nothing off just the tips yes you're getting
19:41used to it and she she's a really good girl she's really good girl well done truffle i think you've
19:47got a good one i hope so yeah thank you costa my pleasure thank you so much powerful we'll see you
19:52soon in the salon good yeah when it comes to a pup's first groom the golden rule is less is more
20:00creating a positive experience they want to enjoy again and again with truffle looking tip top
20:07graham's got the bug for glamour so he's traveled 250 miles north to the rural surrounds of doncaster
20:17well heck doncaster's posh isn't it hey to a rather romantic setting
20:25morning
20:28that's nice isn't it it's a lovely thing to get a dog together as a couple
20:33it brings you together and it gives you a chance to come out to places like this and just really enjoy
20:40what the heck is that i thought somebody was being strangled
21:03good morning are you by any chance sarah and dean yes we are i thought you might be
21:14gizmo hello that's a heck of a noisy bit isn't it just a bit yeah shall we go for a walk then yeah
21:21go on then nice place there's a lot of dogs there is a lot of dogs
21:26no gizmo oh there we go
21:35come on move this swiftly on oh dear
21:37he's a bit vocal this one
21:50sarah and dean have been together seven years and with dean's children having flown the nest
21:56they decided to introduce a new addition their own little fur baby
22:00but gizmo's cries are killing any romance when you start screaming it's like oh everybody looks
22:11it's just not a pleasant experience i ain't taking him anywhere
22:21sarah does everything she can to show she's doing her best i've got my vest on training lead on
22:29i don't want people thinking oh look at her with that dog she's not doing anything
22:34calm down it's very intense it's doing it again it is very scary
22:51what are you doing back there dean swear i usually what what behind yeah i have nothing to do with them
22:57yeah i've got your number i refuse to walk him the screaming so it buries him i tend to walk behind
23:04him i don't want to get involved when he'd walk off and i'm left on my own with his screaming dog
23:10i hate you and hate is a strong word but i hate you for walking off and leaving me
23:17walking with gizmo is no scream for the couple how about sitting down for some quality time
23:27no good lord yeah yeah i think people might be looking just a bit yeah oh dear
23:46take him away with dean unable to bear the embarrassment graham can delve deeper so
23:53i noticed dean was hanging back on the wall yeah he'll just disappear it just riles him he just
23:59gets embarrassed frustrated how does that make you feel lonely stuck with your problem dog on your own
24:06yeah does dean walk him then no i have to beg him to come right because obviously
24:12it's just stressful and i feel like it's it's me and feel like a failure is there as a dog mom yeah
24:31yeah failure i just can't go anywhere and it just makes your world a little bit smaller
24:37it looks as though gizmo sort of coming between you a bit as well and is he causing a rift yeah
24:43because i i'm sort of quite patient i'm like give him time and he and i'm quite
24:49try not to be hard with him so i'm the softer one whereas then he'll say you're not hard enough on him
24:55you know you need to be stronger and then we argue and uh right i better catch up with dean see
25:01how he's getting on hey up dean all right behind you hiding somewhere um i see you walking off and
25:11checking in with you what are you thinking at that moment just get me out of there yeah
25:16my blood's boiling is it really sarah thinks sarah thinks you think she's too soft yeah calm down
25:27you're like choking cheesy what do you make of this ivy's best oh you won't catch me
25:35we're one of them no so you're sort of blending into the background going yeah it's not with me yes
25:40yes how do you think that makes her feel well she don't like you no no no not really
25:51i think it's just too much for dean and he can't control it so that's making him frustrated and
25:57but then of course the effect that has on sarah it's visibly upsetting we've got a dog here who
26:04who's literally splitting them apart coming up can graham stop no a marauding pack
26:13from making their owner homeless now they're all going now listening to your lungs graham discovers
26:20what to do so it does feel quite firm about concerning lumps feels quite hard doesn't it
26:26and can he bring this screamers no parents it's all right you're not taken away back together
26:39it's a real screamer in donkester but not everyone's enjoying it
26:46loudmouth gizmos driving an ear-splitting wedge between sarah and dean the screaming's so embarrassing
26:52for graham the solution to their issues is loud and clear watching his behavior for me the roadblock
27:02actually is you guys and how you react you're both embarrassed i think oh yeah totally really that's
27:08the crux of it your comfort blanket is the hive is and your comfort blanket dean is 100 meters that
27:16way somewhere you know so i think we might lose your high vis so gone is your high well yeah but gone's
27:23your comfort blanket and i'm not going to let you run away dean so and that way we'll hopefully bring
27:28you back together again is that fair enough yeah yeah if he's got the patience let's hope my patience
27:35just didn't run out with you before then for the plan to work this divided couple will need to stick
27:43together how are you feeling now fair and not run in the other direction when gizmo goes off on one
27:53no that's too close instead they need to praise their little screamer for keeping stum
27:59so here's how it works we've got a little dog over there he's seen it at the moment at least he's
28:05being good so i think we take a few steps forward if he starts to scream and all the rest of it we can
28:11tell him no just nice and calm but very clear no when he calms down we then tell him yeah good boy
28:18that's very nice but not before he calms down yeah okay yeah right can sarah stand firm without her high
28:27viz he's pulling a little bit but we can live with that and will dean stick by her side what do you
28:36think you should be doing now good boy good boy lovely a bit further maybe this time
28:42good boy
28:55sarah and dean seem to be pulling together
28:59it's all right you're not taken away but they must stand united until gizmo gets it out of his system
29:07making it loud and clear his noise won't be tolerated they stop now only yeah well so far so
29:21good but more to the point i'm more pleased about the way sarah and dean are now acting together they
29:28do look like a thing they're both doing the same thing at the same time that's so important now gizmo
29:33understands mom and dad don't like him kicking off graham thinks he's ready for the next step
29:39if you feel confident to do it i think you could say hello to this dog now you know yeah
29:44say hello nicely good boy giz
29:51i love the fact that he keeps looking at you as if to say is this okay look at this mom it's great
29:55i've got to say hello to a dog and everything yeah oh he's having a great time
30:01i'm staying by his side so it felt all right to be fair we're just uh little baby steps and then
30:10abby the more i do it the more i get used to it proud of you now graham wants them to attempt
30:19something impossible only hours ago settle down in the cafe without causing a public disturbance
30:27earlier gizmo's screaming was so intense it sent dean packing and sarah left hanging
30:37can he keep calm enough around other dogs for the couple to enjoy an alfresco afternoon tea together
30:43there we go
30:43one yorkshire afternoon tea thank you very much thank you we've done well haven't we yeah he's done
30:56fabulous what a difference to lunch time eh yeah what sort of things do you think you'll be able to do
31:02now that you couldn't go for a pint go for a pint yeah come here again not embarrassed relaxed and
31:12magic happy put it there well done thank you very much sir you've both done a great job thank
31:16you very much together as a team well yeah we're together magic promise you yeah this has surprised
31:24me today he's uh done really well this is just going to keep bringing us all closer together and we're
31:31going to have more days out from the moment they started to work together and sort of resolved to
31:37just get over that embarrassment they looked like a couple again that rubbed off on gizmo well the rest of
31:43it as they said it's history magic with harmony hopefully restored graham's quest to keep the
31:52nation's dogs happy and healthy continues next on his list christine from manchester and her seven
31:59year old beagle basil um has started to develop lumps as he's getting a bit older he's got one quite
32:05biggish one on his side and some smaller ones on his chest i just wondered whether you can shed any
32:10light on on lumps and um whether or not they can become cancerous i'm hoping that we can get basil
32:17and christine a little bit of reassurance
32:20but first he wants to meet them hi nice to meet you uh owen yes nice to meet you hello and basil hello
32:31basil hello you're lovely you how are you well it's not often you get this is it hey so why do you call
32:39in basil then oh basil brush is he that was a brush very much so so that lump at the side there you're
32:48obviously concerned about that we are yeah okay so i'd like you to meet me she's a really good vet
32:54perfect oh if you grab a seat here because it's quite tight in there and then we'll let you know
32:59how we get on okay all right okay great thank you as well as being a vet hey friends may shares her
33:06passion for dog health on social media there are a few things that you can do at home where she provides
33:12tips and advice to millions of viewers and knows when to be worried about lumps and bumps this is the
33:18main lump that you're worried about check your neck just to check for any swollen glands so none there
33:28i can all have a body massage isn't it it's got a few smaller ones yeah so one two and three
33:38small ones and this is the big one okay so it does feel quite firm the good news is there's a simple test
33:47a vet can do to highlight any areas of concern based on what i can feel we can definitely do a
33:53sample today i'll get the needles now and it gives almost instant results give him lots of cuddles
34:05by taking samples from the lump and adding various dyes may can get a clearer picture of what's going on
34:11internally it's nice to try to see something and not just be told yeah she's looking to see if any of
34:18the dyes color the cells how are you feeling obviously a bit worried i mean i fingers crossed
34:24and you know it's nothing to worry about but you just never know with lumps we're hoping for the best
34:30out yeah fingers crossed so would you like to have a look and see what's under the microscope oh yeah
34:38yeah yeah so these are your little fat droplets oh i see and they're colorless in the center yes
34:46which is quite characteristic of a fatty lump so if they were colored that would suggest that some kind
34:53of more sinister cells were in there is that right yes if they have like a nucleus that's stained purple
35:00that means it could be other things well that's encouraging so based on how it looks and how it
35:07feels you know it's most likely a fatty lump okay which is good that's good that's good and what they
35:12found is that the older the dog gets the more likely that they can get a fatty lump as well as if
35:17they are overweight it's always good to keep your dog nice and lean makes sense to have a nice good
35:23diet not too rich in fats but even if it's good news it's important to keep an eye out for any changes
35:30which is something you can do at home with a widely available tool we have calipers like these
35:36so to measure sort of like the height and then measure the um with this side as well and keep a diary
35:42of it and the general rule of thumb is if it's there for up to a month after that month definitely
35:48get in touch with your vets if we come to you and go look it was this number of centimeters last month
35:53and now it's this number of centimeters does that give you some information to go on yeah there'll be
35:58a good you know indication whether we should pursue testing sooner rather than later so the indications
36:05today are that it doesn't look quite cancer well that's good we're all happy about that obviously
36:10we want you to have a long happy healthy life thank you for your help it's been really appreciated
36:15brilliant magic so remember lumps and bumps are all part of getting older
36:22but you need to remain vigilant and see a vet if you're concerned the more information you can give
36:28the better still to come graham may have got this jealous pack good girl kiss on the right path at
36:39work that's amazing but if he can't stop them kicking off when they clock off no they could all be sent
36:47packing unless he can sort it out i'm afraid she's gonna be homeless oh no no they're all going
36:58before graham can put his dog whispering boots to bed for the weekend he's headed back to wiltshire
37:04no to help marie whose four little angels turn into devils at the very sight of others
37:11you've got four dogs who are sort of furiously jealous with jealousy driving their rage
37:17graham taught marie how to exorcise their demons good girl kiss with positivity in the workplace
37:26good boy weasel well done this time the stakes are even higher stopping them being terrors
37:35outside the office they're just so explosive and i can't control them and at the campsite marie
37:44calls home unless you can sort it out then i'm afraid she's going to be homeless if she was evicted
37:50what's going to happen to them all you know she'd be homeless again so i'm really feeling the weight
37:56on my shoulders oh yeah well last time we did well don't we we did yes i think what we learned in a
38:03salon was that they see other dogs as competition for your affections yes so we've got to translate
38:08that to the outside right graham believes marie's four think they're not to blame for mum getting
38:15shouty it's the other dogs they meet so like last time they need to learn that only they can keep mum
38:21happy and only if they're good i want to convince them that yeah if you see another dog there's no
38:27point barking because barking isn't going to get your love and affection so if at any point they start
38:32to bark and kick off we're just going to stop and do nothing so you get love and affection if you're
38:37quiet if you're kicking off forget it that makes sense i think to make life a bit easier for you
38:43initially what say you have one though i'll look after three okay pick a peek and ease anyone will do
38:50kish right come on you lot but we'll simply not reacting when they kick off all right we'll wait
38:58just here look okay we're gonna have to wait for this and only praising right we'll do nothing when
39:07they pack it in oh good girl good girl be reassurance enough good boys right you two are good well done
39:18good girl when that all starts happening whether people admit it or not often the first instinct is
39:24all right yeah you start barking as well in effect yeah and if you start yanking on the lead and
39:29everything it's like it's all mayhem yeah so what we did there was we rode the storm marie's quietly
39:35taking control with kish but the job's not done until she can handle all four at once i'm a fourth dog
39:42peewee to really put her to the test two more strangers are added to the mix oh god oh that's
39:49already a problem right all right marie must resist the urge to tell them off oh oh hang on hang on
39:59now they're all going
40:00well those dogs have just kicked off big stop my big worry is i hope this hasn't blown marie's
40:09confidence so we'll wait for it graham knows if she can hold her nerve they will begin to settle
40:18roscoe's being good you can give him a little tickle look good boy
40:25so we've only got one dog now we've got to wait for her to stop
40:32and by only praising the calm ones oh good girl the whole pack begin to clock on
40:42you see that moment there she's like hang on a minute i'm barking i'm missing out you did good
40:47you did really well just days ago marie giving any dog the slightest bit of attention you're a good
40:54boy turned her pekinese four pack into green-eyed monsters risking both her business and home
41:02so graham has one final test to see if their jealous ways could really become a thing of the past
41:09lots of people would say with their dog if they went to go and stroke somebody else's dog
41:14right that would be a reason for their dogs to kick off yeah so i wonder what would happen if if i
41:19hold on to your four dogs and you go over to one of those dogs yeah and walk that dog yeah i don't
41:26know then we'll know for sure okay they're really getting this all right there we go lovely all right
41:32let's see how we go but could marie turning her back on her pack be a step too far
41:39come on come on come on come on come on come on come on come on come on come on come on
41:50good girl
41:53go to me well they're interested but they're not kicking off
41:59very good well done you're not jealous anymore are you hey hopefully now marie can be proud of her
42:08a Pekingese in public, and without the worry of eviction.
42:12I'm hoping this is going to make a big difference to you, innit?
42:15It's going to make a huge difference.
42:16If I can control them, I've kind of got my life back.
42:20Nice.
42:20Future's bright.
42:22Definitely.
42:23And we trained all four at once.
42:24I know, which I, to be honest, I didn't think was possible.
42:28I lay into a secret.
42:29I wasn't sure it was either.
