00:00Good morning.
00:02Just another day of making our favorite small town better.
00:04Erin, we got to go, babe.
00:06Go fix some old sad houses.
00:08Ben, let's go.
00:09Growing up, I didn't see what was so special about Laurel.
00:12So every day we make sure our girls see it.
00:14Good morning, Katie.
00:15Hey.
00:16Can you believe we fixed up over 100 houses in Laurel?
00:18There's so much opportunity, so many unloved houses.
00:22I don't know what is going to go wrong in here today.
00:25I'm sure something.
00:27Girl, the bat just flew through here.
00:29That's not good.
00:31No way.
00:32We're about to see the house for the first time.
00:34This is the best part.
00:35Oh, my God!
00:37Holy cow.
00:38Are you serious right now?
00:40Ben, did you make this?
00:41Yeah, I made this.
00:43The real truth of living and working in your hometown is that you're going to see these people everywhere forever.
00:48It's your superpower, Erin.
00:50Color is her superpower.
00:51It is.
00:52It is perfect.
00:53Every day is different when you're renovating houses in Laurel, Mississippi.
00:59This is a country road.
01:03Yes, it is.
01:04If I've ever seen one.
01:06Pretty.
01:06Yes, it is.
01:08And look, cows, guys!
01:09Cows.
01:10You wanted the country.
01:11Look, look, look, look.
01:12Donkeys.
01:13Donkeys.
01:13Donkeys.
01:14Oh, gosh, I want to go love them.
01:17I love Becky Fargason so much.
01:19She's a free spirit.
01:21She's incredibly creative.
01:23When my son was born, I was inspired to paint his nursery.
01:29I started attending a decorative painting school.
01:33Someone saw my work, and that was the beginning, and then embarked on a career as a decorative painter.
01:39We've worked with Becky on lots of projects in the past, most recently, the Henderson house and Rose Myers house, and the Tomorazos.
01:48Look at that old barn down there.
01:50Yeah.
01:51Now, that is cool.
01:54I grew up in Laurel, had a magical childhood here.
01:58I wound up moving off to New York City, where I stayed for 20 years.
02:03She left Laurel when she was young because she had a modeling contract.
02:07Hmm.
02:09And somehow I wound up in New Orleans, but I wound up in Santa Fe, New Mexico four years after that.
02:16Finally, I am back in my hometown of Laurel, Mississippi.
02:21I'm starting over again.
02:24Laurel is making a lot more noise now that you're back.
02:28I want my life to be simple.
02:32I want happiness.
02:33I want a country house.
02:35I am looking to spend no more than $200,000.
02:40I want something little.
02:42This first house for showrunner is actually in Ellisville, and it is country living at its finest.
02:47I mean, I don't come out this way a lot.
02:49We're very outside of town.
02:51Well, it's definitely the country.
02:53Yeah.
02:54This here is the Elsie house.
02:56It's really cute.
02:57It is pretty cute, I think.
02:59It is.
03:00It's just a little bit bare.
03:03It is two bedrooms, one bath, 1,200 square feet.
03:07It's listed for $100,000.
03:091.25 acres come with the house.
03:12Well, it has charm.
03:13When I think of you, I think of texture.
03:15Like, you're not afraid of things being a little bit primitive.
03:18I like funky.
03:19And I think this house could definitely be pushed that direction.
03:23It'd be precious, right?
03:24Oh, that's great.
03:25Landscaping is everything.
03:26Everything here, yeah.
03:28And I would love to add a transparent, honey-colored stain.
03:32Pressure wash the whole thing.
03:33Right.
03:33And adding that stain would bring the wood back to life, I think.
03:36Yeah.
03:37A new front door.
03:37Or if you had no more window units hanging out of every window, and we could paint the
03:43windows.
03:43New railing on the front porch, new skirting around the house.
03:46So on the exterior and HVAC everywhere, $25,000.
03:51Okay.
03:51Let's go inside.
03:52Okay.
03:52Becky's going to look at any sort of house and see only the potential, because she's
03:57got such a creative mind.
03:58She won't be limited by what's there.
04:00Yeah.
04:00She won't even notice what's there unless she likes it.
04:03Come on in.
04:04I think you'll be surprised to find such beautiful floors in this little house, you know?
04:09Oh, yeah.
04:10Oak floors were unexpected.
04:12You know something?
04:13I don't like new, shiny-looking floors.
04:16I like the wood to be kind of funky.
04:18But I know you also have a lot of art, and you need walls to hang it on.
04:22Yes, I do.
04:23A lot of my art, a lot of Richard's art.
04:25Richard was my boyfriend, and we met in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
04:31And he was there for an Oil Painters of America show.
04:35And then four months into our relationship, he was diagnosed with a very rare form of bone
04:42marrow cancer.
04:44He passed away last November, and that's when I sold the house that we bought together.
04:52This is a pretty big living room for such a small house.
04:54And then the dining room, right off of it, what if we could add some color and pattern
04:59in here, maybe wallpaper?
05:01Uh, I'm a decorative painter.
05:03Mm-hmm.
05:04No wallpaper.
05:05That's true.
05:06No wallpaper.
05:07Maybe some sort of a faux damask.
05:10Oh, yeah.
05:11That would be pretty.
05:12Yeah.
05:12What'd you call me?
05:13A damask.
05:14It's a flocked, woven upholstery fabric, usually.
05:18I want to do work in my own house.
05:21But at the same time, I want to be still surprised.
05:24On the other end of the dining room, we've got our kitchen.
05:27I think that's great.
05:28Yeah.
05:29And it's not huge.
05:30Well, I don't like a big kitchen.
05:31I like something cozy.
05:33We would close off this doorway to the bedroom, and there's another door to the bedroom off
05:38the hall.
05:38And then you could have new built-in cabinetry that went all the way into the corner with
05:42the fridge built in on the left, your range and your hood vent above in the center.
05:47Yes.
05:47And then keep everything in the same layout on this side of the kitchen where you still
05:51have a peninsula and two bar stools to sit for your grandkids.
05:55But then butcher block countertops.
05:57I would love that.
05:58Yes.
05:58Open shelving left and right of the window, keeping the sink where it is, and new flooring.
06:03Since this flooring doesn't match the old wood floors you like in the rest of the house.
06:07I think that would be terrific.
06:08And then I would love to have an antique piece, a piece of furniture in the room that would
06:12really be the star style-wise.
06:15Great.
06:16I love it.
06:16So living room, dining room, kitchen, $35,000.
06:20Okay.
06:21That's mostly kitchen.
06:22Right.
06:23Bedroom is right here.
06:24It's, you know, pretty basic room.
06:26It's a good size.
06:27Do you know what I really love in a bedroom, though?
06:30I like a womb-y room.
06:32Is womb-y a word?
06:34A womb-y room.
06:35A womb-y room.
06:37Yes.
06:37You want a room that feels snug.
06:39What that means to me is you've got, like, one color that's on the ceiling, the trim,
06:43and the walls.
06:44Love that.
06:45It doesn't make sense for everyone.
06:47Becky can handle it.
06:48She's gonna get drenched.
06:49What a woman.
06:50I love that.
06:52What if it were, like, olive green?
06:54No.
06:54No?
06:56I heard from one of the...
06:57I shouldn't even say this.
06:58No, now I gotta know.
07:00Now I gotta know.
07:01I knew a famous madam once, and she said, oh, you never have green in a bedroom.
07:05What?
07:06Yeah.
07:07She said, never have green.
07:08It makes your skin look bad.
07:09Oh, gosh.
07:11I don't believe that, though.
07:12Well, who are you worried about seeing your skin in the bedroom?
07:15Well, I'm not.
07:15I'm too old for all that.
07:17Monkey business.
07:22Okay, what color?
07:23I love blue in a bedroom.
07:24Deep dark blue.
07:25Deep dark blue.
07:26Ooh, blue.
07:27We can do all that.
07:28Okay.
07:28The bathroom is right here.
07:30Okay.
07:31I think it works, right?
07:33It needs to be gutted.
07:34Have a walk-in, tiled shower on that side.
07:37And then on this side, you need a bigger vanity.
07:39I would love if it were an antique dresser that we convert into a vanity.
07:44For these two rooms, bedroom, bathroom, 20 grand.
07:47Great.
07:47Mostly bathroom.
07:49And then painting studio?
07:50Yes.
07:50It's really funky.
07:52That's okay.
07:52Funky is maybe a generous word.
07:54Maybe junky?
07:55It's more junky than funky.
07:57It's pretty junky.
07:59But I kind of like that.
08:00Oh, I do, too.
08:00Like, you could be crazy with the paint.
08:02You could get sloppy.
08:03We could rip all this stuff off of it.
08:05It's a great little art studio.
08:07Wouldn't it?
08:07It would.
08:07Don't do anything to the floors.
08:09I love them.
08:10Let it be wild.
08:11Great for a studio.
08:14It's all about that.
08:17Look, it's a lake.
08:18Isn't that beautiful?
08:19I want water on the property.
08:21I want water.
08:22What if we tore this deck off?
08:25We built a whole new porch that wrapped around the entire back of the house.
08:28Uh-huh.
08:29Have steps down to the backyard.
08:31We notched the deck around this crape myrtle here.
08:34Hate to lose that.
08:35Beautiful tree.
08:36I love this detailing on the porch railing.
08:38I would want to continue that pattern.
08:41I like having a little fire pit.
08:42Planting some shrubs that would work around this porch and more trees to just give it a
08:48little bit of shade.
08:50Make this the private, secluded and beautiful area where you hang out outside.
08:55I could just see me and my girlfriends hanging out back here.
08:59Oh, this is great.
09:01So back here, painting studio, bag deck, 20 grand.
09:05Okay.
09:06All the renovations for the LZ house, 100 purchase price, 100,000 renovation, 200,000.
09:12Right on the button.
09:14I think let's go to the next house.
09:15Keep an open mind because it's very different from this.
09:18Call it a blank canvas, Erin.
09:19Sure.
09:20Y'all are artists.
09:20Very blank.
09:21Use our imagination.
09:22I almost called those back there, those calves, puppy cows.
09:30I was thinking, look at that sweet puppy cow.
09:35Well, there she is.
09:36There she is.
09:38It's very rural out here.
09:40That's what you want.
09:41That's what I want.
09:42We are in the country.
09:45Welcome to the Perrette house.
09:48I think it has a lot of potential.
09:51Okay.
09:52I mean, I know it looks kind of like a little brick box, but no, it's just been great.
09:57It's two bedrooms, two baths, 1,100 square feet, listed for $125,000.
10:02But the best thing about this house to me is it's got two acres here with it.
10:06I want to be able to open the back door.
10:08I get it.
10:09Let my dog out.
10:10Let her play.
10:11Yeah.
10:12And then if my grandchildren are with me, I can just open the door and let them go play.
10:17I can see where this could be great.
10:19Yeah.
10:19I don't believe you right now.
10:22Well, listen.
10:23I am excited by what it could be.
10:27What do you think about?
10:29Yes.
10:30Yes?
10:30Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
10:32I love it.
10:33It has a lot of potential to have personality.
10:36Yes.
10:37Painting the whole house this deep olive color.
10:40Yes.
10:41And the trim, a bronzy color that works with the windows.
10:44Right.
10:44But you've spent a lot of time in Santa Fe, places out west, these little houses that have
10:50very little ornament.
10:52Right.
10:52And then you'll find it in unexpected places.
10:55And so I would love to find this solid wood carved front door.
10:59Uh-huh.
11:00I love it.
11:00I love that idea.
11:01Landscaping will help enormously, too.
11:04Right.
11:04All this on the exterior, $25,000.
11:07Let's go inside where it is an even more blank canvas.
11:10Okay, can hardly wait.
11:15Yeah, watch that step.
11:17Come on in.
11:19I mean, so blank.
11:22You know, this is amazing how big this looks.
11:26I would have expected eight-foot ceilings and being very cramped.
11:30This is scored concrete.
11:32Obviously, it's been stained or painted white.
11:35Painted.
11:35I think we could stain or paint it a terracotta color.
11:38I would love a warm color on the walls, something that feels very weak, golden.
11:44I don't know how you feel about a dining room.
11:47You know, for the amount of times that I have dinner parties, I don't need a dining room.
11:52Okay, that's very helpful.
11:54This little area by the kitchen, that would be a perfect little studio.
11:58It's the perfect spot.
11:59I don't know about the fireplace.
12:02I like the idea of the warmth of a fireplace.
12:05If we can make it feel better in the house, you'd like it, you think?
12:09I think so.
12:10Come look at the kitchen, because you really can't see it at all.
12:13And it's not your style at all, so just ignore all that.
12:15That's okay.
12:16But don't worry about that.
12:18You got a great big pantry.
12:20You don't even need kitchen cabinets.
12:22When I think of you, very eclectic.
12:25This whole Santa Fe vibe, I think of if the kitchen could feel like an assemblage of just antique pieces versus cabinets.
12:33Right.
12:33Built-in cabinetry is a fairly modern invention.
12:36And for Becky to feel like at home in this very newish house, I think we have to go back in time with some things.
12:44I would love to get reclaimed wood and have our cabinet maker use that to build what looks like very primitive furniture.
12:50Yes, yes, yes.
12:52That doesn't really look like any cabinetry we've ever done before.
12:55I love it.
12:56I really lean toward an organic look.
12:59Yes.
13:00This would all be gone, right?
13:01We would not have a wall between these rooms, so this would become a peninsula with your range in the middle.
13:08And you have barstool seating on the backside of that.
13:11I would love to do stone countertops that just feel plain, no gloss.
13:16And then the sink has to stay here.
13:18You'll still want a dishwasher.
13:19And then, how do you feel about if we just had simple open shelves on this wall?
13:24I love open shelving.
13:25And then you can hang copper pots from rails on this wall.
13:28Well, your refrigerator would be built in at the end of this cabinetry before the painting area.
13:37Right now, this is sheet vinyl.
13:39So we take this up, and I just want to continue that terracotta stained or painted color throughout.
13:45That's great.
13:47And, oh, I have fantastic tiles that I brought from Santa Fe.
13:52What colors are in them?
13:53It's a terracotta tile, and they have a kind of a floral.
13:57Ooh, yeah.
13:58She's lived all these amazing places, and she brought pieces of it every time she moved.
14:03And it's all there for us to use.
14:05Everything from the front door to here, $35,000 is what we're allotting to it, okay?
14:11That'll be great.
14:11Yeah.
14:12You want to go look at bathroom?
14:12Yes.
14:13Let's go down the hall.
14:13Let's go see the bathroom.
14:15All right, it's a short little walk down the hall, and it's pretty shrimpy in here.
14:19We're going to look sunburned in here.
14:22What a color.
14:23And then the bathroom, the layout the way it is, but just take all this out.
14:27That shower's going to go, right?
14:28We could definitely take the shower out.
14:30Because guess what?
14:31I have more tiles.
14:33What color?
14:33Blue.
14:34Blue?
14:34Blue.
14:35Well, then I don't have to paint your room blue.
14:37Or they could both be blue.
14:38How can't they both be blue?
14:39It'll be like color drench.
14:41Oh, I love it.
14:42A jewel box.
14:43Yes.
14:43We've got $15,000 allotted back here.
14:46Yeah.
14:47Okay.
14:47For the bedroom and bathroom.
14:48Okay.
14:49I haven't actually stepped on this.
14:52Look at this creek.
14:54This is country living.
14:55No, it's heaven.
14:57I want this house.
14:58For real?
14:59For real, for real.
14:59I really love the other house, and I loved your ideas, but this house speaks to me.
15:04This is home.
15:05I love the location.
15:06I love the feel of the inside.
15:09It's so airy, and I just see myself here.
15:12Before we fully commit, let's talk about the numbers, okay?
15:16With it being a smaller budget, both houses came out to be the same price.
15:20That's because we have to use every single penny to give you what you want.
15:23Listed for $125,000, all the renovations.
15:26I made it easy, $75,000.
15:28Uh-huh.
15:28So it'd be $200,000.
15:30We're good.
15:31Okay.
15:31We're good.
15:32Like, I like this house, but it's a lot of sheetrock.
15:34Yeah.
15:35I want your help making it feel more worn.
15:38Can we do a little something?
15:40Well, what about a really beautiful wall treatment?
15:43Yeah.
15:44I've definitely never asked one of my homeowners to come paint her own house.
15:49That's Becky, okay?
15:51Her expertise.
15:52And I'm somewhere here.
15:53We're going to want to go there.
15:55Like, if she's going to do this treatment on the living room walls, then I feel an enormous
15:59amount of pressure to meet her at her level.
16:03So excited!
16:04I'm looking.
16:05Group one!
16:06I'm really excited about this little house.
16:09Little ones are where we shine, you know?
16:11Oh, I love it.
16:12Working with Becky will push me to do things I haven't done before.
16:16But it will also be the most fun push.
16:19Yes.
16:30Not a lot to demo here.
16:32It's already pretty wide open.
16:33Good day for the ladies to miss.
16:35Where's Katie?
16:36I think she's got the flu.
16:37Aaron is also at home with a sick kid.
16:40May is totally fine, but Helen's been running fever.
16:42You got any sick kids here lately?
16:44Just my wife.
16:45Sick of you.
16:46Just kidding.
16:47I don't think you are.
16:55So today we're taking the entire kitchen out.
16:58It's awfully tight.
17:04Yeah.
17:05Look at that.
17:13I can't believe after all these years, this is the first time I've come to your shop.
17:26And I got lost trying to get here.
17:28And it's so close to Laurel.
17:30It's just like five minutes away.
17:31I just thought that it was going to be further, so I drove right by your road.
17:34Oh, okay.
17:34Well.
17:35Greg Bell has been building cabinets for us for years, but he always builds in his shop
17:40and then brings them on site.
17:42Oh, got the wood.
17:43This is ours.
17:44That's the one you sent.
17:45They brought it yesterday.
17:45See, I think it has so much character, and it's going to make Becky's kitchen so awesome.
17:51We got reclaimed wood.
17:52I don't want these to feel like builder-grade cabinetry.
17:56It needs to feel distinct and Becky.
17:58I am excited about that wood, but I hope that it's enough, because what I really want are
18:04kitchen cabinets to feel rustic, more primitive.
18:10Okay.
18:11And I want to do...
18:11You even going to get a piece of wood so you can assimilate it?
18:13Yes.
18:13Yes.
18:13Let's look at it.
18:14I think they're just interesting, and it adds another layer of texture and warmth in this house
18:19that is really just a box.
18:20We're looking for all the texture and warmth we can find.
18:23Are there nails?
18:24Some.
18:25Ah, we'll pull them things out.
18:27Love.
18:27So then, if that's a drawer front, these would be handles on drawers.
18:32Yeah.
18:32Using leather straps.
18:34These expose hinges for our doors.
18:37And I want everything to be smooth.
18:38I don't want it to be splintery rustic.
18:40Yeah, yeah.
18:41It's just...
18:41Don't plane it, but just sand.
18:43Yes.
18:44Can you completely build the cabinets from this so the structure comes from this, or do
18:48we not have enough?
18:49How do you do this?
18:50We'd have to do it out of plywood and attach this to the plywood.
18:53Okay.
18:54Now my question is, we don't normally do inset drawers and doors because it's more expensive.
19:01Right.
19:01But this kitchen is so small.
19:03It won't be that big a deal.
19:05Really?
19:06Nah.
19:06Modern cabinetry always has overlay doors and drawers.
19:10But the reason we're seeing such a big return to people wanting inset drawers and doors is
19:14because that's how antique furniture was constructed.
19:18That's right.
19:18I think that's going to be key to making this feel really unique.
19:22Yeah.
19:22An antique-ish.
19:23Becky is going to flip out.
19:26So I did the design on my computer, and I sent it over to this company.
19:56I don't even know how to turn any of this on.
19:58So the fact that you're doing this, this is going to be the coolest thing about the exterior
20:02of the house.
20:03Today, Erin is building a door.
20:06Well, hold on.
20:09I designed panels for a door.
20:11So I used my normal design software that I used for graphic design to come up with the
20:17pattern.
20:18This is the floral pattern that was on that tile that Becky got in New Mexico.
20:23In, like, Spanish door design, I saw lots of stars that were carved into it.
20:28So I thought that would be nice.
20:29All in three days, this is how it should carve.
20:33Oh, okay.
20:33The star is raised.
20:34The star is raised.
20:35And then this portion is full depth.
20:37Yeah.
20:38This will look like a hand-carved door.
20:40That's my hope.
20:41But we're doing it all on the CNC.
20:44Uh-huh.
20:44The CNC uses a computer to make precise cuts in wood, metal, plastic.
20:49So it'll fit in.
20:50Perfect.
20:51You ready?
20:52It starts.
20:52The front door on Becky's house makes no sense with anything that we're doing.
21:07This door is really the statement maker that tells you everything about what to expect when
21:12you walk inside.
21:13I want it to feel like we found Architectural Salvage, a door we maybe picked up somewhere
21:17in Santa Fe, Mexico, Spain.
21:21Look at this.
21:23Oh, my gosh.
21:25Look.
21:26It's like-
21:26Look at that.
21:28This is so cool.
21:30Like, the house is just so ordinary.
21:33And things like this will make the house extraordinary.
21:45Hey, Fran.
21:47How are you?
21:48I'm good.
21:48How are you?
21:49Hey.
21:50It's my house.
21:51It's still there.
21:52A work in progress.
21:53I'm driving back from Santa Fe.
21:55I did this really great project there.
21:58Are you driving right now while you're talking to me?
22:01Are you driving?
22:03No, no, no, no.
22:03I'm going to rest stop.
22:04Okay, good.
22:05No, no.
22:05And Betty says hello.
22:07Hey, Betty.
22:09When am I going to be able to take my living room?
22:12You can start soon.
22:13You can start soon.
22:16We're so not there yet.
22:18We got to take other steps before she can start her steps.
22:22Well, the painters have to do the base coat, and then the kitchen has to get built.
22:27It is going to have to be impeccably timed, so she doesn't see too much.
22:32We normally don't invite the homeowner to come and work on a project.
22:36Normally, they see it at the very end.
22:38But I will text you when we are a week out.
22:41Okay.
22:41Well, I look forward to it.
22:43I'm excited about it.
22:44I think so.
22:44It's going to be so good.
22:46Where are you staying in the meantime?
22:48I am staying at my friend Cynthia's basement in her little basement apartment.
22:54It's going to be really good.
22:55It will be worth the wait.
22:57Great.
22:57I'm looking forward to it.
22:58All right.
22:59Bye.
23:00We miss you.
23:01All right.
23:01Bye.
23:02There may be some things we can move around to speed things up.
23:04But we're talking, you know, a day or two, not a week.
23:09Yeah.
23:09The cabinets are here.
23:17Oh, man.
23:18It looks really, really old.
23:20Because it is.
23:33You found them.
23:35Good morning.
23:36Yes, I did.
23:37What do you think?
23:37Are they pretty?
23:38They are.
23:39They're great.
23:40Becky got them in New Mexico.
23:42And she's been saving them for a rainy day.
23:44This blue.
23:46A lot of blues.
23:46It's a lot of blues.
23:47That's going to be the color of this bedroom.
23:50She wants it to be womb-like, where it's just rich, dark color everywhere.
23:55The bathroom is going to have that same color drench with the tile.
23:58And I think it's going to be very unique.
24:01This house is going to be different than anything we've ever done.
24:03We've color drenched rooms before, but not in deep indigo blue.
24:07Okay.
24:07So, imagine the terracotta color on the floor, the vanity here that's stained wood, it's going
24:14to feel kind of primitive.
24:15And then the copper sink in that, and then this on our floor.
24:20That would be great.
24:21The blue tile up the wall.
24:24And terracotta grout.
24:25And terracotta grout.
24:26That's going to go great.
24:27Putting my best foot forward.
24:30Understanding there's more than me.
24:32The blue tile.
24:33So, can you do the love and make our glasses?
24:37Deshawn and I are trying to figure out the brackets on the front of the house.
24:42Hey girl.
24:42Hey.
24:42You are just who we needed.
24:44These are the brackets for this little porch here.
24:47Mm-hmm.
24:47The intent is to push the house in towards more of a little like southwestern direction.
24:52The brick is going to be painted that olive green color.
24:55This will be an accent.
24:56Okay.
24:57And anyway, these are not really the point of the front porch, you know?
25:00They're just the frame for the picture, which is the door, which I thought we were going
25:04to install today.
25:05Are we going to still install it?
25:05Yeah, the door's here.
25:06It's here?
25:07The door's in there.
25:07Oh, I want to see.
25:08You haven't seen it finished, have you?
25:09No, I haven't.
25:10It's sealed and everything.
25:11Oh my gosh, it's so good.
25:15So, it's got a spar varnish on it.
25:17It's heavy.
25:18Which is glossy.
25:19I know we don't like that, but.
25:21I don't know it'll weather.
25:22It looks so good.
25:23Can we put it up?
25:24Yeah.
25:27Oh my gosh.
25:36Yes!
25:37Oh my gosh.
25:39Look what we have done!
25:43It looks so good.
25:44Doesn't it look awesome?
25:46This house was so boring, and look how cool it is now.
25:48Yeah.
25:49It's so good, Ben!
25:51It changes everything.
25:53I mean, it will, once the house is painted.
25:55I don't know.
25:55I feel like it changes it a lot.
25:57I'm kind of worried about this, though.
25:59The bracket?
26:00You want it to match the door?
26:01Yeah, I want it to match the front door.
26:03Do you have any more Spanish cedar?
26:05I got tons of it.
26:05Okay, yeah.
26:06Do Spanish cedar, then.
26:07Okay.
26:16Troy's about to pull up with the Spanish cedar.
26:18Troy's our new Deshaun.
26:20He's brand new, fresh out of college.
26:22He's a little baby.
26:22Here comes his baby truck.
26:24Look at that little truck.
26:27His truck's even smaller than Deshaun's was.
26:31Troy's bringing the rest of the Spanish cedar to make the brackets.
26:36Just play them up there, please.
26:37All right.
26:38What year were you born, Troy?
26:392001.
26:39Ah, jeez.
26:412001.
26:48We're going to build these brackets, see if I can show these whippersnappers a thing or two.
26:53I'm kind of getting stressed out about the fact that Becky hasn't come to do the wall treatment yet.
26:57The house is going to be done before she ever gets here.
26:59I know.
26:59The house is going to be done.
26:59She painted on the reveal, though.
27:01Becky has to have that base coat of paint in order to do her decorative painting, and that just got done in the last two days.
27:15So we had to say, just come as soon as they're done painting.
27:19Hey, y'all.
27:21We are going to have this ready in the nick of time.
27:25We have to finish modifying Becky's vanity today because...
27:29The countertop guys are coming, and they're installing the kitchen countertops and that top on this vanity.
27:34And Becky...
27:37Is on her way.
27:38Is on her way because she's doing the paint treatment today.
27:42Nothing like waiting until the last minute.
27:44Correct.
27:44Make sure it fits and all.
27:47Ooh!
27:47Ooh!
27:47It's so good!
27:49The veining has so much depth and texture.
27:53There's a little bit of brown that connects with this wood.
27:56It looks so expensive.
27:58But when you get a little remnant, it's not.
28:01When you have a small area to work with, you can be rich with details.
28:06You can actually spend more money on finer things.
28:09Because you don't need as much.
28:10With a small house, you can do something like reclaimed wood kitchen cabinet.
28:14And then she gave us the tile, so that was free.
28:17We can tile the entire kitchen wall.
28:19We never get to do that.
28:20Rarely.
28:21It's very expensive.
28:22Unless it's free.
28:23Have you seen the paint in the bedroom and bathroom?
28:26No, but I'll come and look while they get that ready.
28:28I'll come help y'all move in a minute.
28:29Okay.
28:30All right.
28:31Come look at this.
28:33Whoa.
28:34He's never done anything like this.
28:36Is it so Becky?
28:38It's gonna be a sleepy ride.
28:39Yeah.
28:40It's so good.
28:40This is awesome.
28:41Isn't it?
28:43Ooh!
28:43Okay.
28:43Countertops.
28:44Um, yeah.
28:45Becky is gonna be here to start doing her treatment on the walls.
28:48I was trying to cover the door so that she doesn't see it.
28:52Oh my gosh.
28:52We need to cover all this as soon as they get the countertops in.
28:56Erin, this was poor planning.
28:58I know it was poor planning.
29:01I wanted Becky to get started with her decorative painting like two weeks ago.
29:05So she wouldn't have seen cabinets.
29:07She wouldn't have seen the front door.
29:09I wish that she had come, you know, a week or two ago.
29:12What all is she painting?
29:13All of this.
29:16You know, she's gonna see the cabinet.
29:18She's gonna see the countertop.
29:19Because that's all coming today.
29:22We have to super hurry because she's about to be here and I gotta cover all this up.
29:28Okay, that looks great.
29:29Can you come back and glue it later?
29:31Let me just cover it up.
29:32I love the chiseled edge.
29:34So, so good.
29:43Hey, Becky's here.
29:51I'm gonna go talk to Becky.
29:52You got this.
29:53So the house is all hers for three days.
29:55She's not gonna take the plastic wrap off.
29:57She better not.
29:58She's going to follow the rules.
30:00Okay.
30:01Okay.
30:01There's nothing you can see that will be exciting.
30:06We've covered everything.
30:08Okay.
30:08I love the color.
30:10This is right.
30:10This is the base color.
30:11Beautiful.
30:12Beautiful.
30:12Yeah, exactly what I wanted.
30:13This is your builder grade box.
30:15Now, how do we make it have character?
30:17Well, we're gonna put a visual texture on it and it's going to kind of mimic Venetian plaster.
30:25We picked the most boring house in the world for her because I know that she can make it custom.
30:30She can give it patina and age and beauty and texture.
30:34You don't have to, we haven't painted the floors yet, so you don't have to, it's not precious.
30:37Okay, great.
30:38We're gonna layer three different colors.
30:40I have to do one color completely before I add the next color.
30:44Do you build from your darkest to your life?
30:46I go dark to light.
30:48I just think it's richer looking buildup and I also use different sheens.
30:52Yeah, that's cool.
30:53Okay.
30:54Now, what I like to do, I'm gonna come down here like this.
31:01Like that, right?
31:02Okay, uh-huh.
31:03And then I love, just wanna tap it and come up.
31:10Tap it and come down.
31:14Cross.
31:15Ooh.
31:16The way she's doing this, I mean, have you ever seen a picture of her New Orleans apartment?
31:21Nope.
31:21It looked ancient.
31:23It looked like somewhere in France.
31:25It feels almost like it's velvet.
31:27It's almost plaster.
31:28It's almost suede.
31:29It's just the most subtle and rich warmth.
31:33This house has none of that.
31:35And we need so much of that to make it look like Becky.
31:38But one thing you don't wanna see are real distinct start and stop marks like that.
31:44See that?
31:44Uh-huh, uh-huh.
31:45You wanna go ahead and pull that out.
31:47I feel like I'm back in art school.
31:49I'm 19 and you're my teacher and I'm loving it.
31:52When this is finished, there'll be some people that'll say, oh, it looks like suede.
31:57You know, it's all left up to interpretation.
31:58I think what you do looks kind of like velvet.
32:00I'm gonna see how you do with it.
32:02I'm gonna load this for you because I don't want you to overload.
32:05Get it just right.
32:06Here we go.
32:06No, no, come over here.
32:07Over, okay.
32:08Come right over here.
32:10There you go.
32:12Don't come down so far.
32:14Okay, no, you got right.
32:15Let's go right about there.
32:16Okay.
32:17Start tapping it out, girl.
32:18It's gonna dry fast.
32:20The next color, I'll go over that.
32:22And then the last color, I will probably do the entire wall with it.
32:27You wanna get it all out.
32:29Come straight across.
32:30Okay, like that?
32:31Yeah.
32:32You did great for your first time.
32:34Okay.
32:34Feel free to spray it and start it.
32:36No, it'll be fine.
32:37All right, how much time do you feel like you need?
32:40This will not be more than three days.
32:42Hopefully, I will be done tomorrow afternoon.
32:44Do you think about me like I think of you?
32:46Do you want me, baby?
32:48Tell me how to true.
32:50This can't be wrong, but do you think about me like I think of you?
32:59Becky's house moving right along.
33:01Walls are done inside.
33:03Cabinets are almost done.
33:03I'm actually dropping off drawer boxes for Greg so he can keep going.
33:08Trying to sort out the boards here.
33:10Got dart walnut.
33:11We got cherry.
33:12This one feels weird, doesn't it?
33:14Yeah.
33:14The grain pattern is just too bold and too different.
33:17Do we have enough of other hardwood so we don't have to use the pine?
33:21We can find enough.
33:22If we could do that, I think that would be great.
33:24Yeah.
33:25Becky's moving in in a couple days.
33:55We are so done.
33:56The inside is totally done.
33:58And now it's just landscaping and moving in her furniture,
34:02and that's when everything is going to just totally transform.
34:13Becky is in everything.
34:15She's never lived in this house, but it looks like she has for so many years.
34:19And we're just so lucky that she had amazing things that we could add to the house.
34:25It's a little flight of fancy everywhere.
34:28Richard Cooper was Becky's partner.
34:30He passed, and he was one of the most gifted artists.
34:34And his artwork is everywhere in this house.
34:37So she feels close to him.
34:38Even if he's not here, he's still here.
34:41He's everywhere.
34:44This house is so specific.
34:46It is so Becky.
34:48It's not meant to please everyone who sees it.
34:52This has been, I think, Erin's favorite project.
34:55It's been so transformative.
34:57I care about what speaks directly to the heart of the person who's going to live here.
35:02And I'm really, really proud of this house.
35:05I think you're going to love it.
35:07All right.
35:07Welcome to the Fargason house.
35:09This is fabulous.
35:15Oh, my God, y'all.
35:17Can you believe me?
35:18No, I don't.
35:24This is wonderful.
35:26Oh, my gosh.
35:28I can't believe you did this.
35:32It is beautiful.
35:34It's beautiful.
35:36I've had the best time on this house.
35:41I love it.
35:42The color, everything is perfect.
35:45The landscaping, I love it.
35:47Good.
35:48It needed something.
35:49I love your planters that we could just nestle in with all the new landscaping.
35:57It's all perfect.
35:59It's all perfect.
36:00It's wonderful.
36:01Did you notice the front door?
36:03Yes, it's great.
36:04It's great.
36:04Where did that come from?
36:05I built that.
36:07I wanted to get you, like, one of those great, reclaimed, carved Spanish doors.
36:12Very expensive.
36:12Your doorway had to be an exact size, you know?
36:14Right.
36:15So we couldn't find an old one and make it work.
36:17Right, right.
36:18So we had to make a new one.
36:19We did the carvings on our CNC at the factory.
36:21But I designed them.
36:22Erin designed them.
36:23Because it's connected to something that's inside the house as well.
36:26Oh, that's right.
36:26That's right.
36:27Yeah.
36:27I think it's the first time I've ever built a front door.
36:30It's beautiful.
36:31I love that the roof actually is really rough and patented.
36:35I like old and weathered.
36:37I know.
36:38I like my man that way.
36:39The house had absolutely no personal.
36:44It had none.
36:45And now it's my little beautiful country cottage that I've always dreamed of.
36:50I know you've seen the inside.
36:52You've painted the walls.
36:53I did.
36:53But everything was covered up.
36:55So I couldn't see what you had done.
36:57Now's the time.
36:58Well, let's see it.
36:59Let's go.
37:00I love all of your stuff.
37:02It's what made it so great.
37:08Oh, my gosh.
37:12Y'all, it's fabulous.
37:18Oh, this is wonderful.
37:20Can you believe it?
37:21Oh, no.
37:22I can't.
37:22It's fabulous.
37:24We shopped at Becky R Us.
37:26Uh-huh.
37:27Every single thing.
37:29I love it.
37:30I love every single thing.
37:32I love all your things.
37:34All of your rugs, your walls.
37:37I forgot about the walls.
37:38It is spectacular.
37:40Yeah?
37:40It is spectacular, yes.
37:41Yeah!
37:42I love it.
37:43I love it.
37:43I love it.
37:44I love it.
37:49Your art, Richard's art, it's everywhere.
37:52Yes.
37:52Because it's amazing.
37:55And we did tiny updates on the fireplace.
37:57Now you don't even notice the things that we didn't love about it.
37:59Before.
38:00Right.
38:01I'm over the moon.
38:03You can see the kitchen from here.
38:05I'm stunned.
38:07It is staggering.
38:09So full of tiles.
38:11Your tile is everything.
38:14It is.
38:14The details from this kitchen are everything.
38:16And the reclaimed wood on all your cabinetry.
38:19Cabinets.
38:20Yes.
38:20This is something that Erin has wanted to do for a long time.
38:23This is a random mix of wood.
38:26That we got for almost nothing.
38:28And Mr. Gregg has never done anything like this before in a kitchen.
38:32It absolutely works.
38:33Oh, look at this.
38:35Isn't that cool?
38:36Uh-huh.
38:36I think it turned out so you.
38:38And look at these countertops.
38:40Uh-huh.
38:40This more organic chiseled edge on your countertops felt right.
38:44And you have tons of seating.
38:46You do.
38:47By dinner parties.
38:48On the end.
38:48Yes.
38:49It's perfect.
38:50We wanted the kitchen to feel like an unfitted kitchen, even if it wasn't practical for this
38:54layout.
38:55We have inset drawers and doors, and we could afford to do it in this kitchen because it
38:58was so small.
38:59It's just finished beautifully.
39:01I don't know what else to say.
39:02I love your tiles so much.
39:04Oh, thank you for using them.
39:06Find a place for them.
39:07I've been in love with this tile forever, and I've wanted to use it.
39:11And here it is.
39:11And this is the design that I replicated in the door.
39:14I see.
39:16Okay.
39:16These four are the clackers.
39:18Right.
39:18Yeah, stars in the middle.
39:20I've been able to use all the things that I love and I love to live with.
39:24It feels like home.
39:27God, I'm going to be so happy here.
39:29Ah, I hope you will.
39:31Oh, I will.
39:31I will.
39:32I'm going to be so happy.
39:32I want you to turn on that light and open the pantry.
39:35Oh, terrific.
39:37I love this color.
39:39Oh, yes.
39:40So wonderful.
39:41There's so much storage in it, and the color is beautiful.
39:44And then right off your kitchen, you have your studio.
39:49It's great.
39:50I can just see myself sitting here, looking out.
39:53Got lots of natural light.
39:55And look, there's a photo of Richard.
39:56Mm-hmm.
39:57I love that picture.
39:59And these floors are not precious.
40:01They're great.
40:02I love them.
40:02Perfect.
40:02This is terracotta on a budget.
40:04It's great.
40:05Well, it was mostly made possible by the fact that you came and used your own time to make
40:10the house have so much character with the treatment on the walls.
40:14I want you to go see your bedwomb.
40:16Yeah.
40:17My bedwomb?
40:17Mm-hmm.
40:18Your woomy womb.
40:18My woomy womb?
40:19Yeah.
40:23Oh.
40:25Oh.
40:25This is absolutely gorgeous.
40:33People will see this room, and a lot of them will say, I cannot handle that.
40:37It is too dark.
40:38The ceilings are too dark.
40:39Everything's too dark.
40:40I say it is rich and layered and very moody.
40:45It's woomy.
40:47Woomy.
40:48It's woomy.
40:50It is so beautiful.
40:52And that painting is the greatest thing.
40:55I loved painting it.
40:57Oh.
40:57And I want one of my kids now.
40:59I love your grandchildren.
41:00They are beautiful.
41:02You want your children there.
41:03I want one.
41:03Yeah.
41:03Okay.
41:04And all of Richard's art, it's just pitch perfect.
41:07It is.
41:07It's beautiful.
41:09I'm so happy to have it around here.
41:11We met at the cowgirl.
41:13That's where we met on Halloween.
41:14I love that.
41:15Yeah.
41:16And then the forest out the windows.
41:17Yes.
41:18I am in the woods, and this is what I wanted.
41:22Y'all, this is just gorgeous.
41:24The bathroom.
41:24Okay.
41:25Let's see it.
41:26Oh, my gosh.
41:30Look at this.
41:31Look at my shower.
41:33And the tiles.
41:34Oh, my gosh.
41:35They're gorgeous.
41:36I am so happy you didn't use white.
41:39Yes.
41:39That's what I was about to say.
41:40Oh, gosh.
41:41The terracotta ground is perfect.
41:44Oh, my gosh.
41:45This is beautiful.
41:47And look.
41:47Oh, look at here.
41:48Yeah.
41:49It feels like your kitchen.
41:51Oh, my heavens.
41:52I love it.
41:53And this was a really expensive stone.
41:55Beautiful.
41:55But because we just had a remnant, it was nothing.
41:58It's fabulous.
41:59That was the trick of your house, because it's small.
42:01We could do expensive finishes here.
42:04Right.
42:04Yes.
42:05I love the great toilet.
42:07We've never had one before.
42:08It's terrific.
42:09It's terrific.
42:10A white one just felt wrong.
42:12It's, this is beautiful.
42:14Okay.
42:15Stunning.
42:15I feel like this house is just so you.
42:17It is so me.
42:25Oh, look, y'all.
42:26Look how beautiful.
42:27You can hear the lawnmowers.
42:28My creek.
42:30Oh, my grandchildren are going to have the best time ever.
42:34Magical.
42:35You have so many beautiful things.
42:37Your collected life just looks gorgeous visually.
42:41Oh, thank you.
42:43But you guys nailed it.
42:45I'm so glad you love it.
42:46I love it.
42:47You gave us $200,000 to do this with.
42:49The house was $125,000.
42:50The renovation was $75,000, but it feels like...
42:53Every bit of $150,000.
42:55I was going to say the renovation feels like $200,000.
42:58It looks like it.
42:59We knew a great decorative painter who really added some depth and richness to these rooms.
43:04It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:07It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:08It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:09It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:10It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:11It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:12It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:13It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:14It's a wonderful place to start over.
43:15It's a wonderful place to start over.
