01:15Before they met Danielle and Tony travelled the world with their jobs living in some far flung places such as South Korea and Gabon.
01:24Now after two years together they're looking to buy their first property as a couple.
01:29A holiday home here in Spain where they can relax and reunite their friends and family from all four corners of the globe.
01:37Danielle who's originally from California used to teach English and is now a disability advisor.
01:43Tony is from Wrexham and is a geophysicist working in oil and gas.
01:49After meeting online a few years ago the pair quickly realised just how much they had in common.
01:54When we started speaking he said to me, Danielle I will make you laugh every day and he's held true to that promise.
02:02Danielle has a great heart and your laugh at all my silly stories and all my silly jokes and your smile is just like sunshine for me every day.
02:13They can't wait to find a holiday home in Spain where they can spend time enjoying their hobbies.
02:19Like their shared love of cooking and Tony's passion for tennis.
02:23Their property budget is £230,000.
02:27Estepona is both a town and a region under an hour's drive south of Malaga Airport to which direct flights from the UK take about three hours.
02:39It's becoming an increasingly visited tourist destination and it's not hard to see why with over 13 miles of beautiful beaches.
02:48Many backed by pretty promenades and loads of lovely local restaurants providing the perfect places to enjoy al fresco dining.
02:56It's also one of the most cosmopolitan parts of Spain with over a hundred nationalities living in the town and surrounding areas.
03:04Despite its rise in popularity, Estepona still retains a nice sense of Andalusian charm, particularly in its old town with the cobbled streets and flower filled plazas.
03:15Estepona is fast becoming one of the most desirable places to buy along the Costa del Sol.
03:22Investment has been pouring into the area and with over 60 new luxury developments on the go,
03:29its eastern coastline has been dubbed the new Golden Mile.
03:33Here, apartments can fetch upwards of £4 million.
03:38But do not fear, there are some great deals to be found nearby for considerably less.
03:45So you can still live the high life without a megabucks budget.
03:50Which is great news for Danielle and Tony and I'm meeting them on Playa de la Rada,
03:55a great spot for sunbathing and beach sports to find out what they're looking for.

04:04Is there something in particular about Estepona that's attracted you?
04:07I think its cosmopolitan nature is something that we really appreciate.
04:12I love the food, love the culture, so that's what's really brought us back.
04:16So is this going to be your first purchase together?
04:19Yes.
04:20It will be, yes.
04:21I haven't even bought a car together yet!

04:23Can you describe your ideal place to me?
04:26Minimum two bedrooms, two bathrooms.
04:29I think the most important thing is we need a large terrace
04:32because we intend to spend quite a bit of time outdoors.
04:35I would love it if it was more of a Spanish style.
04:38I think that we spoke about more of a modern interior.
04:41As close to the beach as we can get would be fantastic.
04:46But if we went inland a little bit, if we had a nice view, we could compromise on that.

04:52We could walk, for example, 30 minutes from our place to the beach.
04:55How much are you hoping to spend?
04:57I know you initially said a £230,000 budget.
05:02We do have a wiggle room, up to £30,000.
05:05So up to £260,000.

05:15Our first property is under 10 miles away along the coast in El Paraiso,
05:19which is part of the new Golden Mile.
05:22In the area is a large shopping centre, a good selection of restaurants and a pebbly beach.
05:27But before we head there, I want to swing by Plaza de las Flores in Estepona's old town,
05:32as I think it's one of the prettiest spots around.
05:35Is this somewhere you visited before?
05:37It is.
05:38We were here about six months ago, actually, in this very place.
05:42Were you?
05:43On that rooftop right up there, having a drink.
05:47We were up there looking down and there was many, many people all enjoying al fresco dining,
05:54having drinks.
05:55So we thought to ourselves, we'd like to have a bit of that.
05:58Yeah.
05:59Yeah.
06:00There are lots of little gorgeous back streets with nice restaurants or little cafes,
06:05full of flowers all throughout the old town of Estepona.
06:09This really does encapsulate what I want from Spain.
06:13So how would you two feel about looking at a property that's probably about 15 minutes drive from here?
06:20Sounds great.
06:21Sounds very exciting.

06:25We're heading to a pretty complex in El ParaÃso called Benamara.
06:30There are about 200 properties on the urbanisation which was built in 1983
06:35and there's even handy access straight onto a beach.
06:39The option we found has been on the market for three months.
06:43Now we're looking at a two bedroom, top floor apartment in this development just in front of us.
06:50And it looks like exactly what I had in mind in terms of architectural style.
06:54It's got that lovely Spanish feel, hasn't it?
06:57Absolutely, yes.
06:58And lovely white walls as well.

07:03There's direct access straight to the beach.

11:12About 5,000 people live in this scenic spot and it's also popular amongst golfers with some famous courses.
11:19There are great beaches here too.
11:21One with a 16th century watchtower and we're stopping off nearby to introduce my house hunters to someone who moved here permanently two years ago.

11:55So one of the pull factors for me is the warm weather and being able to be outside.

13:13a more modern interior.
13:14This is a big deal for this jet-setting couple, as they've never purchased the property together
13:19before, so I really want to get it right.
13:24We've come to Casares Costa for our second option, where property prices tend to be around
13:2930% lower than in central Estebona.
13:32As we're looking to improve on both size and finish, this time I'll be pushing their
13:37top budget of £260,000 to try and bowl them over.
13:42It's under a 10-minute walk from the beach, and we're starting by the communal pool.
13:47How do you like the look of this?
13:50It's very inviting.
13:51The pool looks amazing.
13:53We're actually looking at the corner apartment on the first floor just here.

13:58This one is on the market for just under £265,000.

14:07However, the agent believes that the vendor would be willing to negotiate.
14:13It's more modern, much less updating to be done there, so I'm hoping you're going to
14:17really like the interior.
14:18I think for me, the previous property had a sort of a feel, a more residential feel.

14:27Which is just different, and I suppose we both liked that sort of feeling of having houses

18:27To try and improve on location, we're heading to the neighbourhood of Bel Air, which is close to property one, the stretch of coast known as the New Golden Mile, which they seem to really like.
18:37Bel Air is known for its tranquility and traditional looking properties and also has a good selection of shops, places to eat and a sports facility, which is sure to be a hit with one of my house hunters.

18:57Absolutely love it.
18:58And they have events going on.
19:00So it's quite a nice way to get into the community and meet people as well.

19:05Whenever I've moved somewhere, I've joined a local tennis club and tried to make new friends and it's great.
19:10The great thing is that you don't actually need to be a member here.
19:13You can just come and pay for an hour.
19:15It's about £17 to book a court, tennis or paddle.

20:04They're on their first house hunt as a couple and they've already fallen for a modern apartment I showed them with stunning sea views.
20:12They loved so much about this two bedroom apartment but were missing being close to the stretch of coast dubbed the new Golden Mile, east of Estepona.
20:22So we've headed back there for our third option, to a neighbourhood called Bel Air.
20:27It's fast becoming one of the most desirable spots to buy in the area and has an international appeal attracting buyers from all across Europe.
20:35I've found a property that's comfortably within their maximum budget of £260,000.
20:41It's on a pretty urbanisation, just a 15 minute walk from the beach that I hope will be right up their street.
20:47So, look at this place. It really does feel like I am in the middle of a Spanish village.
20:55I think it's beautiful. I love the whitewashed houses, the palm trees, it's enclosed and the lovely pool in the centre.

24:53I feel like I might be starting to divide the camp, but with less updating clearly being the way forward, for our fourth option we're taking a 20 minute drive west to Buenas Noches.
25:05It's only three miles from the centre of Estepona, but the area is a little quieter and more residential with a population of about 3,000 enjoying the stunning combination of mountain and sea views.
25:18We're stopping by the property's closest coastline en route.
25:23How do you like the look of this beach?
25:25I love the sound of the waves.
25:27The waves are quite, quite moving.
25:29I think you really like that, don't you?
25:31Actually, it's just a really lovely, rugged, unspoiled beach.
25:37You've got the promenade where you can go cycling or go for lovely walks into Estepona.
25:42It's not too far.
25:43Also, according to the locals, this is one of the best places on the Costa del Sol to go snorkeling.
25:49Is that something you two enjoy?
25:51We just did it recently and I'm also a certified diver, so it does sound quite exciting.

30:46Today, I'm in southern Spain, house hunting around the gorgeous seaside town of Estepona, helping Danielle and Tony find their dream holiday home.
30:56Right now, they each have a favourite property, and I've got one last chance to get them to agree.
31:02This is the first time the couple are buying a place together, and they have a top budget of £260,000.
31:09Tony's favourite is this modern two-bed with a large terrace and great sea views.
31:15Danielle also liked it, but she loved the more traditional village feel of this complex in Bel Air.
31:21They both agreed the property had potential, but did need quite a lot of updating.
31:26I'm hoping my final option, this charming three-bedroom house with uninterrupted sea views, will merge everything they've each liked so far.
31:37But before that, I'm in for a quick treat of my own.
31:40A private tour around this impressive luxury property called Villa Nicky.
31:45Outside, there's a lovely private pool, a family-friendly garden, and an al fresco kitchen and dining area.
31:53Inside, the furnishings are soft and plush, around the five bedrooms and five bathrooms.
31:59There's also a cinema room, a bar, and a gym.

33:42And as tempting as it is to tuck myself away on one of those terraces with a book,
33:47I'm even more keen to find Danielle and Tony their own perfect holiday home.
33:52We're heading to the town of Manilva for our final option,
33:55about a 15-minute drive west of Estepona.
33:58It's a traditional spot under two miles inland, nestled between mountains and the coast,
34:03and has a rich agricultural heritage as well as some lovely cafes and squares to explore.
34:10So, we've come to a different area now.
34:13We're in Manilva.
34:14Have you been here, heard about it at all?
34:17We have heard about it, but we haven't been here yet, have we?
34:21No.
34:22What are your first impressions?
34:23I love the views.
34:24Yeah.
34:25It feels a little bit quieter than obviously down in the coast, but yeah, it's very nice.
34:30I know it's quite quiet at the moment, but it is actually quite a culturally rich place,
34:36because you have this amazing history of winemaking here.
34:41Okay.
34:42They make muscatel here using the local muscat grapes.
34:45And, you know, there are all the different ferriers, the festivals,
34:48and they have gastronomy festivals, they have wine festivals,
34:51and all sorts of things that you can get involved in.
34:54It's right up our alley, isn't it?
34:56Mm-hmm.
34:57So, we're going to have a look at a property, maybe six minutes' walk from here.

35:03Prices in Manilva are lower than in our previous locations,
35:06as we're now a five-minute drive from the sea.
35:09So, I've been able to find a spacious three-bedroom house with great views
35:13that's just been on the market a week.
35:16It's on a small urbanisation of 12 properties, and we're starting by the communal pool.
35:22So, what do you two think of this position?
35:25I think it's absolutely breathtaking.
35:27Commanding views.
35:28Mm.
35:29And although you can hear a little bit of road noise,
35:32you're not surrounded by roads like we were at the last place.
35:36Yeah, absolutely.
35:37I don't really feel like I'm being boxed in by the road.
35:41I can't wait to show you this property.
35:43This is going to be something a little bit different.
35:45So, let's go and take a look.

35:50This is our final property.
35:53So, it's a three-bedroom townhouse.
35:56I think it's quite striking.
35:57It is, yeah.
35:58With the white and the mustard, it looks very attractive.
36:02There will definitely be some updating that you'd want to do here
36:05to give it that polish.
36:07This one is on the market for just over £243,500.

36:20As well as that communal pool with sea views,
36:23the apartment has its own good-sized terrace with more views of the sea.
36:27And a further three balconies, one with mountain views.
36:32Inside, the house is divided into three levels.
36:36On the ground floor is an open-plan living and dining room,
36:40a separate kitchen and a downstairs toilet.
36:44On the first floor, there are three double bedrooms.
36:47The main one has its own ensuite bathroom,
36:50and there's another family bathroom.
36:53Then on the top floor is a further room,
36:55currently being used as a study,
36:57with doors out to one of the balconies.
37:00So this, to me, feels like a really proper house, doesn't it?
37:07It does.
37:08Do you get that feeling as well?
37:09Yes, yes.
37:10I think the space is a good size.
37:13I like the layout.
37:14For me, the Sea View apartment, I think its layout is still more appealing.

37:50I think, for me, it's the fact that it feels overlooked.
37:54That's the big dilemma, I think, for this one,
37:56is, yes, you know, whilst you could screen it off
37:59and make it a little bit more private, you'd lose half your view.

38:06I think we're slightly in disagreement here
38:08because I think this is really lovely.
