01:11Oh, great.
01:12OK, yeah.
01:13No, I can get a tape out of it to you.
01:15When's the deadline?
01:17I'll find someone.

01:28Another self-tape.
01:29So annoying.
01:31I'll tell you what it was, but I've just got to sign an NDA, you know, so...
01:34That's cool, Mum.
01:36Pleased for you.
01:37Guys, guys, we've got a situation.
01:38Like, a bad one.
01:40Rich is a no-show.
01:41His phone's going straight to voicemail.
01:42I think we all know where Prospero's total laughter.
01:50I think we all know where Prospero's total laughter.
01:51No, no, never.
01:54No, no, never.
01:56That is.
01:57I guess our last night was always going to be a mad one.
02:00After the way this tour's gone.
02:04But we both made it to the end.
02:08No, no, never, no more will I pay.
02:16No, never, no more.
02:20Rich.
02:21Rich, come on.
02:24Rich, we've got to go.
02:26Skedaddle, youth.
02:27Rich, come on.
02:28There's an audience.
02:28They've paid to see us.
02:29To see you.
02:32Come on, you're not going to let them down, are you?
02:38All right, come on.
02:40Hey, hey.
02:45All right.
02:46All right, all right.
02:50All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right.
02:52Oh, sweet Lord.
02:55Mr Dempster, you doing okay?
02:58Of course I am.
02:59Why wouldn't I be?
02:59Just a little dry around the mouth, that's all.
03:01Final call for Miranda.
03:02Act one, scene two.
03:03Final call, Miranda.
03:06Oh, no, no, no, no, no, that's a pop.
03:11Oh, much advice.
03:22Then to sea boys and go hang.
03:30This is a scurvy tune.
03:34Oh, but here's my comfort.
03:37Do not torment me.
03:39Oh.
03:39Whoa.
03:40What's the matter?
03:41Have we devils here?
03:43If all the wine in my bottle will recover him, I will help his ague.
03:53Ah, that's a brave god.
03:55And bear celestial liquor.
03:57Come, amen.
03:58I will pour some in thy other mouth.
04:06Stavano!
04:07Stavano!
04:07Lost thy other mouth caught me.
04:10Why, this is a devil and no monster.
04:12Stavano, I am Trinculo.
04:14Be not afeard.
04:16Thy good friend, Trinculo.
04:18Very Trinculo, indeed.
04:20I swear upon that bottle to be thy true subject.
04:24I'll show thee every fertile inch of the island.
04:30I see.
04:31I see.
04:34I prithee.
04:37Let me show thee where crabs grow.
04:41And with my long nails, I'll dig thee pig...
04:47Pig nuts.
04:51Oh, my God, Michael.
04:55Nathan, we need our first aid here.
04:58Michael, look to me.
05:01Oh, my God, he's not breathing.
05:03Someone call an ambulance.
05:05No!
05:06Quick!
05:07Somebody call an ambulance!
05:29Oh, my God!
05:30And now, you can go out.
05:30And now, it's time to talk to all можно.
05:30And now, for you!
05:30Do the platenculo.
05:30See you again!
05:30We love you, braw in life.
05:31Palets, as well, is stuff MarAYت.
05:40No, you'll find all ways he can do that.
05:47Yes Thomas what's up are you at the shop sir I am practicing my darts oh can't say you don't
05:54need it since I got myself a decent set of arrows my form was improved get in I'm presuming this
06:03isn't a social call you got a case a suspected poisoning occurred doing a theater performance
06:08the victim collapsed on stage what you sure it wasn't an accident according to paramedics the
06:13symptoms suggest it's cyanide poisoning interesting no everything all right I think I might have just
06:23nearly killed Harry what are you doing man you can't play on here it's not safe Michael Farah 32
06:34years old suddenly collapsed halfway through the second act of the performance the tempest the
06:40poster said yeah last 10 months they've been touring beaches all over the world with it
06:45this was their final performance sergeant Fletcher's taking all the necessary statements
06:49Caliban I'll take it one sec let me check yes yes he was I mean two points for you inspector
06:58how did you work that out well he looks monster you know not human I assume the smell of almonds
07:06got
07:07the paramedics thinking it was cyanide which is fast acting so do we know what he consumed before he
07:12died well apparently he drank from this moments before it happened it's a fiasco I mean I'm trying
07:19my best here sir I haven't been here for long I just got here oh this is a fiasco oh
07:24it's a
07:25traditional Italian wine bottle he'll have drank from this in act two scene two the famous drinking
07:29scene let me check for you again boom shakalaka two more points for you again inspector it was
07:36indeed act two scene two oh the man knows this Shakespeare he does who knew cherry juice that'll be
07:44for the red wine so chances are we're looking at our murder weapon that's what you think right but it
07:50can't be because two others drank from the same bottle during the performance
07:55Stefano and Trinculo that one I don't know sir but based on your previous farm two pints again so
08:01what happened to the other two actors who drank from this not a thing the paramedics checked them out and
08:05they seem fine and um they recorded the show seen as it was the last performance so I will watch
08:12it back
08:13and check to see what happened but if they did drink from the same bottle then he must have ingested
08:19the
08:19poison some other way hmm let's see what the rest of the company have to say these are two that
08:32drank from the same bottle as a victim mm-hmm just Gorman and Anya Chambers she and the victim were
08:36in a
08:37relationship together and she's taking it pretty badly who are the others so this is Richard Dempster
08:44he directed this production and he also plays uh Prospero there comes a moment in every actor's life
08:52a certain character's call to you I had no choice I had to submit okay and this is Nathan Burns
09:02he's the
09:03company stage manager I swear if there was poison in that bottle it wasn't me that put it in there
09:09actually mr. Burns we're working on the basis that the poison was administered another way really oh
09:13thank god yeah the cyanide's fast acting so if it was in your system we'd pretty much know by now
09:19we'd
09:20like to know what else mr. Farr consumed in the 20 minutes or so before he died Mikey never ate
09:27for a show
09:27not for two or three hours did he drink anything I just sip water what did he drink from uh
09:35one of
09:36those water flask thingies um oh there it is okay so take me through exactly what happened this
09:47afternoon anything out of the ordinary we went up a bit late by about 15 minutes how come
09:55um just um technical hitch and once the show had started oh um Michael was um on stage in scene
10:06one
10:06he doubles as the bosun take in the top sail 10 to the master's whistle no no very very swift
10:15makeup
10:15costume change reappear as Caliban in act one scene two Anya helps um well helped with that and how did
10:25he seem then fine and what about before he went on stage and collapsed a bit nervous pacing buying his
10:34nails he always was before that scene there are a couple of tricky speeches in it but he wasn't looking
10:40ill can any of you think why someone might want to do this to mr. Farrar mikey was loved by
10:51the whole
10:51company very talented boy he had the whole world at his feet
11:07if we're working on the basis that the killer got the poison into Michael's system 15 20 minutes
11:13prior to him dying on stage and it must be one of the cast or a stage crew that
11:21sir why kill someone like that in front of an audience and on the very last show of the tour
11:29i mean after today they could all go home right they never have to see each other again
11:34so why did he have to die on that stage today
11:40this is a public beach right well we're gonna need some security to keep an eye on the crime scene
11:46and get sergeant fletcher and officer rose to do a sweep of the place on it
11:58you all right mr dempster oh oh no 10 months on tour will do this you
12:07come on richard it's time to go
12:22well i recognize you from somewhere oh yeah it's a whole community police scheme thing we're doing
12:30sounds thrilling i didn't catch your name in the frenzy of it all sergeant mattie fletcher sergeant
12:38would you like to go for a drink with me uh while i'm on the island no that's inappropriate
12:44mr gorman you know with me being a police officer and you a possible suspect in a murder case right
12:51yeah well that makes sense um i hope that wasn't too embarrassing not for me it wasn't good good um
12:58i guess as an actor i lost all sense of shame a while ago
13:04did he just ask you on a date during a murder investigation that's a red flag right there
13:08maybe he's the killer maybe he's trying to get close to the police to keep an eye on the investigation
13:13or maybe he's just a bozo that's also a possibility
13:16uh-huh crazy man
13:19uh-huh
13:20uh-huh
13:32take a bow mikey because it's all over now i told you it was always gonna end this way
13:50oh that's great man i'll get the beers yeah yeah and some snacks nice what time should we say
13:55around seven ish yeah cool man all right nice one see you then i just arranged a dance night with
14:03daryl tonight he's gonna get his mates around it's gonna be a bit like being back home you know
14:08lads standing around the dartboard beers banter the only thing that's missing is a sticky pub carpet
14:14and some pork scratchings pork scratchings yeah they are the quintessential english pub snack
14:20it's fried pigskin i'll get some sent over for you oh no rush
14:28uh lab results uh yes and they confirmed the victim died from potassium cyanide poisoning
14:35no surprise there they checked michael's own water bottle and found no traces of the poison in it
14:41whatsoever nothing in his water bowl as for the fiasco cherry juice fairly high glucose levels
14:52they noticed but most importantly a lethal dose of potassium cyanide
15:00that is surprising poison was in the bottle that our victim and the other two actors drank from on stage
15:07so how can three people drink from the same poison bottle and only one of them die
15:12it doesn't make any sense
15:30well we can rule out the pretending to drink theory i mean these guys are drinking from the bottle for
15:35real no question so what if one of the other two actors slipped the poison in on stage just before
15:41michael drank from it yeah rewind it a bit okay play could it be jez now the bottle is in
15:50view the
15:50whole time and he's not adding anything to it oh so michael's not the last person to drink from that
15:56bottle seb's right anya drinks after michael so even if something had been added by jez and he would
16:02have consumed it as well how how do they all drink the same liquid with with poison in it but
16:13only michael farrah
16:14dies
16:17who's sergeant fletcher on the phone to oh an actor's agent back in the uk we misspoke with the rest
16:23of the
16:23cast this morning a um casey briscoe who plays miranda she said she saw nathan burns a casting the
16:31victim just moments before the show even started i'm telling you this is all gonna come back on you
16:36and sooner than you think and there's rumors going around that there's history between them so casey
16:40slash miranda said we should speak to this agent did you get anything from the search
16:46nothing interesting how suspicious you know he's been homing this little tune i've never seen him do
16:55this before me neither inspector what's this funky tune you've been homing god i don't know it's been
17:04in my head since yesterday i can't shake it i can't place it wait a minute
17:24bingo it was an advert it was on the telly about five years ago they kept playing it
17:34see that's what i was humming and why is this relevant wait as a woman i've seen my fair share
17:44that's why and i know they can leave a pretty nasty pong but now i found whiffuster i can leave
17:50that's nathan burns the stage manager man he's like a better actor than all of the others put together
17:56nathan burns was an actor and he has history with our victim i just spoke to an agent in london
18:03who used
18:04to represent nathan she remembers him as being super ambitious the whiffbuster ad wasn't the end of his
18:10rainbow then the agent said about eight years ago nathan had a really important audition for the
18:16production of macbeth at the national theater in london and he didn't get it but guess who did
18:23michael farrow and more than that nathan went to the police at the time
18:29he was adamant that he was spiked before the audition
18:46so i get this big audition and i go down to london and stay in a cheap hotel near the
18:52theater
18:53michael staying in the same place me and him get chatting in the bar the night before what were
18:58you drinking just softs but michael insists on getting the last round i go to bed at 10. next
19:17what happened after that i never got another break like it did a bit of theater and education a couple
19:24of tv ads with buster yeah with buster
19:31then i quit so you tour with this guy for 10 months and it never comes up
19:41mr burns just before the last show you were seen arguing with michael saying
19:46it's all gonna come back on you and sooner than you think mate you're referring to him sabotaging
19:53your audition that's some revenge spiking his drink like he spiked yours i didn't kill michael
20:01because of what he did to me eight years ago still must have bothered you though right otherwise why
20:04bring it up what i just i couldn't stop myself i was never gonna see him again
20:16we'll be in touch
20:24there is definitely something he's not telling us you think
20:40rich
20:42the police have been asking questions i didn't tell them what he did to you but
20:50if there's heat on me again i don't think i can stay quiet any longer
20:57to thine own self be true hey
21:02oh delroy same again if you were okay no problem
21:16sir how come you know so much about shakespeare seems unlikely you know with you being a
21:23day of the match a match of the day kind of guy no disrespect when i was a kid
21:30i used to hang around outside the stage doors of western theaters yeah in case i saw someone famous
21:35yeah they meet vin diesel
21:37no i don't think vin diesel ever trod the boards of london
21:42anyway i got to know some of the staff and they would let me sneak in and watch whatever was
21:46on at the
21:47time so yeah i have seen my fair share of the board's works
21:54also i got talking to the actor sometimes and they would say how hard a gig it was you know
22:00the
22:00failed auditions the unemployment doing rubbish jobs just to make ends meet it was it was tough
22:06competitive as our first suspect found out well could it be that that pushed michael to do what
22:12he did to nathan but it also shows there's a dark side to our victim spiking someone's drink just so
22:17he can get the role he wanted that's ruthless well whatever it was that led someone to poison michael
22:23farrah well we still haven't got a scooby how we pulled it off i mean the man died on stage
22:28right
22:28in the middle of a performance drinking from the same bottle as these two but they didn't die he did
22:38do i wilson speaking yeah i can talk now okay
22:48yeah yeah i understand have you spoken to my brother about this he has right
22:58okay um well um thanks for letting me know
23:06so is everything all right
23:14i knew mum would leave everything to sovereign
23:18i just didn't think he'd put the house up for sale as soon as it was his
23:24i thought we'd at least chat about it first
23:28and what about your mother's things
23:31according to the solicitor is arranged for house clearance company to take everything and
23:35auction it all off
23:38it all seems so rushed to me
23:40of course it's going to feel well
23:42i would have liked at least a last look around the place
23:47maybe keep something of hers to remember her by
23:56then call your brother and tell him that's what you'd like to help him
24:01he's got to understand right
24:18hey you yes
24:21how can i help oh well actually i thought i could help you you know wind down after a hard
24:27day's
24:27police in the streets
24:29police in the streets we've got some beers picnic blanket and um yeah i thought we could find a
24:35quiet beach and get to know each other mr gorman yes did we not already have this conversation
24:43we did yes but i thought what was happening was you know you were on duty you had your
24:48colleagues around you and i think you were saying what you felt you had to say
24:53Mmm, no.
24:55Come on, I'm not on this island for very long.
24:57How often do you get to do this with someone like me?
25:01Let's just have some fun.
25:03Here we go, here we go.
25:04Hmm.
25:07Yes, yes.
25:09There you go.
25:13Cheers.
25:15Actually, now that I think about it,
25:16I did say that I was going to meet my friend.
25:19What's the time now?
25:20Oh, no, you're spilling it, you're spilling it.
25:22Oh, what a shame.
25:24I do have somewhere to be right now, though.
25:29Do not bother me again
25:31unless it's related to the case, Mr. Gorman.
25:36You understand, though?
25:38Good.
25:39You enjoyed the rest of your evening.
25:58Sergeant Fletcher, good morning.
25:59What have you got?
26:00So, I've been doing background checks on the other cast members,
26:03and I noticed Anya Chambers and Jez Gorman
26:06were in the same play back in 2021,
26:10and they ended up getting together.
26:13And, wait for it,
26:14they only got married a year later.
26:16Hang on, I thought Anya was with Michael.
26:18She was.
26:19She left Jez for him during the tour they'd been on.
26:23Why did this not show up sooner?
26:25Because it wasn't officially registered yet.
26:28They had a vow ceremony in the forest somewhere.
26:30There was a whole Midsummer Night's Dream theme going on.
26:33Yeah.
26:34Yeah, you should have seen some of the photos
26:36they posted on social media.
26:37That was some dress she wore.
26:39Respectfully, of course.
26:41So, how did Jez feel about being replaced by Michael?
26:44Hmm.
26:44Well, according to the other cast members,
26:46really not so good seems to be the answer.
26:55Look, I don't know who said that, but it's nonsense.
26:57So, when Anya told you she was leaving you for Michael,
26:59you weren't upset?
27:01Sorry, why is she here?
27:02Is that normal procedure,
27:04to bring a uniformed sergeant along?
27:05It is.
27:06Yep.
27:07Yes, it is.
27:08OK.
27:09Fine.
27:10So, it's nonsense, is it,
27:11that you were upset about Anya?
27:13Yes.
27:14I mean, Anya's the one who's losing out, not me.
27:16All our mutual friends are siding with me.
27:19She's the one who's going to have to move in with her parents
27:21when she gets back home, not me.
27:23I mean, it hurts.
27:24Yeah.
27:25Of course it hurt.
27:26It really hurt.
27:27But I didn't kill Michael because of it.
27:29I wasn't looking for revenge.
27:33Ah, this is my agent, so I should probably take...
27:35No.
27:37You shouldn't.
27:38OK, she'll leave a voicemail.
27:40This is a murder investigation, Mr Gorman.
27:43And your wife fell in love with the victim.
27:45That's a very strong motive.
27:46Well, that's where you're wrong, actually.
27:48They didn't fall in love.
27:50I mean, maybe she did, I don't know,
27:52but it wasn't reciprocated.
27:54What makes you say that?
27:58Because he told me so.
28:02A few nights before our final performance,
28:04we all had a bit of a sesh at the hotel bar,
28:08and some of us went for a dip in the sea.
28:10Michael comes up to me and he says
28:12he's going to end it with Anya
28:13because he's got some off-Broadway play
28:17and she's not what he needs right now.
28:20And did he end it with her?
28:22Yeah.
28:24Five minutes before the beginning of our final show.
28:28Talk about timing, eh?
28:40Anya's in room 352.
28:42That was Seb.
28:44The security team at the crime scene
28:46says somebody tried to break into
28:47the dressing room area last night.
28:49Guess a description?
28:51Is that something that we could have missed?
28:53Right, you and Officer Rose
28:54get down to the crime scene.
28:56Let's go and talk to Anya.
28:58Yeah, well, when's the deadline?
29:00Yes, Seb?
29:02Yeah, I'm sure I can get something to put me on tape.
29:06Mikey and I had gone to collect rich
29:09from this bar he drinks in.
29:11That was why we went up late.
29:13So that was the technical pitch.
29:16We literally had five minutes
29:17before the performance was about to start.
29:20Mr. Dempster, come on, let's get you dressed.
29:22Fight! Fight!
29:23You're so mad.
29:24Michael just blurts it out.
29:26I can't do this anymore.
29:29I'm going to New York.
29:32I'm going alone.
29:34You gave up your marriage for Michael.
29:36You risked everything.
29:40It must have hurt then
29:41when he told you it was over between you two?
29:45I don't know.
29:49What was it that drew you to Michael?
29:52It felt like...
29:54my kindred spirit.
29:57It was something I'd never had with Jez.
30:00In what way?
30:02Mikey cared so much about his work,
30:05but it terrified him.
30:07He was just striving to be as good as he could.
30:10Knowing it could all be torn down
30:12by a critic or the audience.
30:14And that bumability drew me to him.
30:17Because I feel it too in everything.
30:22Okay, so in that moment,
30:24when he told you'd finished with you,
30:26you must have felt...
30:27Betrayed.
30:28But...
30:29Angry.
30:29And within the hour he was dead.
30:31What?
30:32What?
30:33You think I did it?
30:36Because of...
30:37I mean, about...
30:38How, even?
30:43You think I'd carry around
30:44a bottle of cyanide with me
30:46just in case I get dumped?
30:49And if you've forgotten,
30:50I drank from the same bottle as him.
30:53Why would I do that
30:54if I knew there was poison in it?
31:01You know,
31:02my mum's church has this dirty thing going on.
31:06And sometimes,
31:08I think about doing a bit of act to myself,
31:09you know?
31:10It's just the words sometimes.
31:13I really struggle with words.
31:16Like, um...
31:18Cool.
31:22The winds did sing it to me
31:24and the thunder,
31:26that deep and dreadful organ pipe
31:28pronounced the name of
31:29Prosper.
31:31It did base me trespass.
31:32Base me trespass?
31:34I mean, what does that even mean,
31:36like, base me trespass?
31:38Like a boombox type of base?
31:39Less of the base
31:40and more of the searching.
31:42Sergeant Fletcher.
31:43Commissioner, afternoon.
31:44Afternoon, sir.
31:46Might I have a word?
31:53How is the investigation going?
31:55We're making progress, sir.
31:57We've already got a few suspects in mind.
32:00Is everything all right, sir?
32:03A complaint has been made
32:06accusing you of unprofessional conduct.
32:10By who?
32:11Jess Gorman claims you tried to initiate
32:13a romantic relationship with him.
32:16He said what?
32:17And when he turned you down twice,
32:21you pursued him as a suspect in the case.
32:25That is just not true.
32:27We interviewed him
32:29because there was evidence to suggest
32:31he had a motive.
32:33And it was Mr. Gorman who asked me out twice.
32:36I swear to you, sir,
32:38he is making this all up.
32:40I mean, I would never do something like that, sir.
32:43You believe me, right?
32:46Look, sir, ask Officer Rose.
32:49He was there the first time
32:50Mr. Gorman asked me out.
32:52He will tell you.
32:54Very well.
32:57Leave it with me.
33:07Exactly what am I looking for?
33:09Yes.
33:11Though, cannot find a thing?
33:13Hey.
33:14Ah.
33:18Hmm.
33:28Sarge!
33:29I think I found something.
33:32What is it?
33:37It's a beach like a key
33:40with a few of them two minutes of the road.
33:46Oh.
33:55Oh.
33:59Syringe.
34:04Well, I'm assuming that's the cyanide.
34:12It's in the throat, Bozenges.
34:14You all right there, Mr. Dempster?
34:23Right, Mr. Dempster.
34:25Well, this lot has got your fingerprints all over it.
34:30No-one else's.
34:31You care to explain?
34:34It's thanks to Michael Farrah that I fell off the wagon.
34:37Sorry?
34:38Before this tour, I've been sober for 20 years.
34:41What happened?
34:43Michael was offered this off-Broadway show.
34:46It's going to get him some good publicity in the States.
34:49Well, at the same time, we had the chance of extending our tour by three months to South America.
34:54And you didn't want to lose your caliber?
34:56No, and I mean, Michael was contractually obliged to stay if further dates were added.
35:01I'll refuse to release him.
35:03Well, we know Michael was very ambitious, so I assume he wasn't happy about that.
35:08It's our first day off in the Caribbean.
35:12Trinidad.
35:12We all spent the day by the pool.
35:15Cheers.
35:19I didn't realize till it was too late.
35:21Oh, dear boy.
35:23Putting shots of vodka in my soft drink all day.
35:27Once I got the taste for it, well...
35:29Double, um, double whiskey, please.
35:3320 years without so much as a sip.
35:35It all came crashing down.
35:38Nathan and dear Anya, they were first to realize I was back on the source.
35:42Took it in turns, bless him.
35:45Bring me to bed.
35:46Did you tell them what Michael did?
35:48Yes, but I don't think Anya believed me, but Nathan did.
35:52Nathan?
35:53Yeah.
35:54There is definitely something he's not telling us.
35:57He said that Michael had done something not dissimilar to him once,
36:01spiked his drink.
36:03So that's what Nathan was holding back.
36:06When he confronted Michael before the final show,
36:09it wasn't just about his experience eight years ago.
36:12I'm telling you, this is all going to come back on you,
36:15and sooner than you think, mate.
36:16It was also about what he'd been doing to you.
36:19The irony of it is that funding fell through,
36:22and the end tour was never extended.
36:24Michael got exactly what he wanted.
36:26No, I had a sense he usually did.
36:29Which brings us back to this little collection.
36:32I think he poisoned one of these lozenges.
36:35Gave it to Michael backstage,
36:37then added poison to that wine bottle on stage after he died,
36:40to misdirect us.
36:42Make us think that's what killed him.
36:45I'm afraid my little plan wasn't quite so smart.
36:48Well, and also deadly.
36:50The bottle doesn't contain cyanide.
36:53It contains lysergic acid, diethylamide.
37:00LSD.
37:02The hallucinogen.
37:04I injected one of the lozenges.
37:06No, not with cyanide.
37:08I don't want to kill him.
37:09I just wanted him to feel how he made me feel.
37:14All powerless.
37:17Well, I wanted everyone to see it.
37:22With the code that I am,
37:23I didn't go through with it.
37:27And when Michael collapsed on stage,
37:29and we were called...
37:31What was I panicked?
37:33All real frenzy.
37:34I ran to the beach lockers,
37:36hit the evidence, and...
37:38So it was you, our security sword,
37:39trying to get into the dressing room
37:41to get that key?
37:43Did you tell anyone else about your plan?
37:45So smashed half the time,
37:47I might have left it lying around.
37:51I don't know.
37:52Inspector.
37:56Just a moment.
38:03I think he might be telling the truth.
38:06We've re-watched the video,
38:08and after Michael collapses,
38:10no one goes near the bottle he drank from.
38:12And look,
38:13Jez Garman puts down the bottle here,
38:15and no one touches it again until...
38:19I do.
38:20There.
38:21So the poison was in the bottle all along?
38:24Nothing was added afterwards?
38:26No, sir.
38:28So how come the other two that drank from the bottle
38:30didn't die,
38:31and he did?
38:42You've reached Solomon.
38:44Leave a message,
38:45I'll get back to you.
38:47So,
38:48it's me again.
38:50Can you call me back?
38:51Please.
38:56So I just heard back from a few of Jez and Anya's friends in the UK,
39:00trying to get a handle on their marriage breaking up.
39:04Right.
39:06No one was shocked.
39:07It seems Jez wasn't the most faithful of husbands.
39:10He saw it as a kind of...
39:12open marriage.
39:14Right, and what happens on tour stays on tour, then.
39:17And after three years of marriage,
39:19Anya felt betrayed and humiliated.
39:21Jez basically took her for granted,
39:22but obviously never expected her to actually leave.
39:26So when Anya hooked up with Michael,
39:28that must have really thrown him.
39:34Still haven't heard from your brother.
39:37You know what?
39:38I think he's actually ignoring my calls.
39:41I keep thinking about how things were between us,
39:43you know, when we last saw each other.
39:45They weren't great.
39:46In fact, if I'm honest,
39:47I kind of think it's because of me that
39:49we're going our separate ways.
39:50Then maybe you should go visit him in Antigua.
39:53You think?
39:54Yeah.
39:54Just go talk to him.
39:57I'm heading to the lab.
39:59You want me to drop you off at the shack?
40:01Er, no.
40:02Er, take me to the high street, please.
40:04I need to get a bucket and spade.
40:07As in a...
40:09As in a kiddie's bucket and spade
40:11for, like, the beach?
40:12What other kind of bucket and spade is there?
40:15Sir, er, is this for the case?
40:18Or...
40:21Are you having a break now?
40:23Probably both.
40:29All right.
40:30Well, that's me done.
40:38Sarge, you don't need to stress yourself over this
40:41Jez Garman complaint.
40:42Like you said, the man's a total bozo.
40:45And the commissioner will definitely see that.
40:47Car, he can see through the lies.
40:51You're not too sure about it.
40:56There's something that you don't know about me from before I, uh...
41:03I came back to St. Marie.
41:05In Jamaica, I...
41:08I messed up on the case.
41:11Big time.
41:13And...
41:14And some of my file and the commissioner knows about it.
41:19So...
41:19No.
41:21No, I'm not sure he's gonna have my back on this.
41:25That's why you're transferred.
41:32Well, I mean, look.
41:35I wouldn't be so sure about that, Sarge.
41:38Because one thing I know for a fact
41:40is that the commissioner wants to give everyone a chance.
41:45Because...
41:46Because, I mean...
41:47Yeah.
41:48He did with me.
41:50Best decision he ever made.
42:13Morning, Sarge.
42:15Officer Rose.
42:15Oh, say.
42:16Yes, Thomas.
42:17Sarge.
42:18Somebody's giving the inspector some hair.
42:22I never thought I'd see the day the man could have an afro.
42:25Whoever did this, making a bold statement.
42:38Morning, inspector.
42:41Have you seen the poster?
42:43Someone's giving you a glow-up.
42:44Yeah, I've seen it.
42:46Yeah, that really brings out your cheekbones, inspector.
42:48Kind of suits you.
42:49Oh, and he's got his little kiddies' buckets.
42:52And spades.
42:54Four of them, in fact.
42:57One bottle.
42:58One dose of poison.
43:04Three people drink the same liquid from the same bottle.
43:10Now, how come only one of them ingest the poison and the other two don't?
43:14Well, that's not possible.
43:16Why not?
43:17They're sand in all of them.
43:19Or poison, so how?
43:21How indeed, Sergeant Fletcher.
43:26Is that from the lab?
43:27Yes.
43:28Oh.
43:32Confirms the liquid in the bottle we found in Mr. Dempster's cigar box was LSD.
43:40Not legal, but definitely not murder.
43:43Oh, sir, your buckets.
43:45Oh.
43:57The sea's washed all the sand away.
44:02It's like I was never there.
44:08Hang on.
44:13The water made the sand disappear.
44:17Or did it actually disappear?
44:20I mean, what if it was there all along?
44:23I think you poisoned one of these lozenges and added poison to that wine bottle on stage after he died.
44:28No one goes near the bottle you drank from.
44:31As for the fiasco, fairly high glucose levels.
44:35And if that explains the bottle, then where did the poison come from?
44:41You know, very, very swift makeup, costume change, reappear as Caliban in Act One, Scene Two.
44:48And with my long nails, I'll defeat you.
44:52Eat those.
44:55Ha!
44:56You know who did it.
44:59And I think I know why.
45:01But what about the hole, Inspector?
45:03I mean, that's what the hole big is about, right?
45:05I'm pretty sure I know the how as well.
45:07But, Officer Rose, I need you to run another talks report on Mr. Farah.
45:10But I need a glass of water first.
45:12You're dehydrated.
45:13No, it's not a drink.
45:14It's just a little experiment that will finally prove what really happened on stage three days ago.
45:20One glass of water coming right up.
45:30Now, I don't want to talk ill of the dead.
45:34However, I think it's fair to say that Michael Farah was a selfish and self-interested individual
45:41who only cared about what he wanted in life and how he was going to get it.
45:46But, did the malicious and hurtful things he did to each of you really mean he had to die?
45:55Anya, you obviously thought he did.
45:59Because it was you that poisoned him.
46:01What?
46:02What?
46:07The mystery we've been trying to solve throughout this case
46:11is how three people could drink from the same poisoned bottle
46:17yet only one of them dies.
46:21We didn't know it.
46:23But the answer has been right in front of us from the start.
46:26And in a way, Mr. Farah gave it to us in his dying breath.
46:32And with my long nails, I'll dig thee pig...
46:35And I, with my long nails, will dig thee pig nuts.
46:40Because that's the thing about Caliban.
46:42He was a monster, right?
46:44And as part of Michael's makeup to help make him look more...
46:48...monstery...
46:49...his nails were painted.
46:52And that's how he was poisoned.
46:54We need to get this to the lab.
46:56But we've already had Michael's fingernails tested.
46:59And it was confirmed there were traces of cyanide in the dried varnish.
47:05It was administered, Anya, by you.
47:09During his wardrobe change from the bosun into his Caliban costume,
47:13makeup and painted fingernails.
47:17Nathan, you said Michael would get particularly nervous
47:21while waiting to go on stage for Act 2, Scene 2, yeah?
47:24A bit nervous.
47:25He would pace and bite his nails.
47:28Which, after touring for 12 months together
47:32and having become intimate with him,
47:34you also knew Anya.
47:36But I told you, Michael only ended things with me half an hour before he died.
47:42How could I plan his murder in that time?
47:44You're right.
47:46Michael's murder was planned in advance.
47:49But now we know the killer had to be you,
47:51then it follows that you'd already found out
47:54Michael was planning to end his relationship with you.
47:57You getting in?
47:59Yeah, maybe.
48:00And with Michael telling Jez as much...
48:02Look, I'm going to end things with Anya.
48:05I think you overheard that conversation.
48:07After everything, I thought you should know.
48:09And we believe that's when you decided to kill him.
48:13Then, if Michael's fingernails were poisoned...
48:16Well, why was there poison in the bottle?
48:19That was to misdirect us, right?
48:22To confuse us with the seeming impossibility
48:25that three people could drink from it, but only one die.
48:29Why weren't they all killed?
48:31I'm glad you asked me that, Mr. Dempster.
48:33Because to answer that,
48:34we need to look to your own plan to get back at Michael Farrow.
48:38We know Miss Chambers helped to put you to bed a number of times
48:42when you've overindulged.
48:44Nathan, your auntie, I took it in turns.
48:47Bless him, bring me to bed.
48:49And you admitted yourself
48:50you left the cigar box containing the syringe, the lozenges...
48:55I might have left it lying around.
48:56..and this little bottle lying around the place.
49:00We believe you came across this box, Miss Chambers.
49:04OK, Rich, a sip of water.
49:07Like that.
49:08Mmm.
49:09And that's when your plan started to take shape.
49:14But instead of using LSD,
49:17you used a fatal poison.
49:22Now, I have to admit,
49:24it didn't register with me at first,
49:26the significance.
49:27But when our lab tested the liquid
49:30in that poison bottle,
49:32the cherry juice...
49:33As for the fiasco...
49:35They found the level of glucose in it...
49:37Glucose levels.
49:38...higher than normal.
49:39That's where this comes in.
49:43Just over an hour ago,
49:45I dropped one of Mr. Dempster's throat lozenges
49:47in this glass of water.
49:49And now, look.
49:52It's gone.
49:55Dissolved.
49:57And that's exactly what you did, Anya,
49:59with that wine bottle.
50:01Just before yourself, Jez, and Michael
50:03went on that stage for Act 2, Scene 2.
50:06You see...
50:06No!
50:07As long as the lozenge was whole
50:09and hadn't dissolved...
50:11Jez!
50:12...it was safe to drink from.
50:14Which you all did.
50:18But by the time we arrived at the crime scene
50:21and sent the bottle to the lab to be tested,
50:24the lozenge had already melted away,
50:27releasing the poison,
50:29making it seem like it had been there all along.
50:34But why?
50:36Why did you kill him?
50:39Anya,
50:40when you and Michael got together,
50:43you were still feeling hurt
50:45and embarrassed
50:47by your husband's ongoing infidelities,
50:52him taking you for granted.
50:54So for Michael,
50:55the kindred spirit
50:57that you'd risked everything for,
50:59to humiliate you even further
51:02by finishing with you,
51:04only a few months after getting together,
51:06well,
51:07it more than hurt.
51:09And that's when you realised
51:11that perhaps
51:13the rumours
51:14you've heard about Michael,
51:16which you previously dismissed,
51:18were actually true.
51:20That Mr Dempster's claim
51:22that Michael spiked him
51:24actually happened.
51:26Did you tell them what Michael did?
51:28Yes, I don't think Anya believed me, but...
51:31And that Nathan Burns'
51:32own past run-in with Mr Farrell
51:34was more than mere gossip.
51:36There's been gossip amongst the cast ideas,
51:38history between them.
51:39So you decided to do something
51:41that was long overdue.
51:43And on behalf of yourself
51:45and everyone else here
51:46whose life he'd ruin,
51:48you would give Michael
51:50something he deserved
51:52to make him the one
51:53to finally suffer.
51:56his own downfall,
51:58his own humiliation.
52:00Right there on that stage
52:01for all the world to see.
52:05And that, Miss Chambers,
52:07is why you killed him.
52:17Anya Chambers,
52:19I'm arresting you
52:20for the murder of Michael Farrell.
52:22You do not have to say anything,
52:24but it may harm your defence
52:26if you do not mention
52:28when questioned
52:30something which you later rely on in court.
52:32You do not see enough of yourself already?
52:47It's never enough.
52:50Return of the Bozo.
52:52Could we have a quick chat, please?
52:59I just want to let you know
53:00that I officially dropped
53:01my complaint this morning
53:03and I wanted to say I'm sorry.
53:07You know you could have lost me my job
53:10just because I wouldn't have a drink with you.
53:13What kind of sick little messed up brain you have?
53:16Yeah, that's pretty much
53:17what your commissioner said.
53:18Wait, the commissioner?
53:19Yeah, he was the one who insisted
53:21I apologise
53:22and said he was going to charge me
53:23with wasting police time
53:24and he caught my agent.
53:26He's a pretty terrifying guy, actually.
53:29Oh, and there he is.
53:31OK.
53:32Well, look,
53:32I'd rather not have to deal with him again,
53:34so I'm really sorry.
53:46Sir?
53:49He apologised.
53:51He did.
53:52Thank you, sir.
53:54I'm sorry I couldn't get him
53:56to drop his complaint sooner.
53:57The man was clearly
53:59making it all up.
54:03So you knew he was lying all along?
54:06Of course.
54:07But one has to follow procedure
54:09in situations like this.
54:13It's...
54:15I just...
54:17I just thought you didn't believe me, sir.
54:20You know,
54:21after everything that happened before.
54:25You made a promise to me
54:27that there were going to be
54:29no more mistakes.
54:32And I tend to take people
54:34at their word.
54:35You're a good sergeant.
54:36I can see that.
54:37So keep it up.
