00:00Winning Hungary's election hasn't stopped false claims about Pita Magyar.
00:08It's not even been two weeks since Pita Magyar won Hungary's elections,
00:12and the incoming Prime Minister is still facing a deluge of misinformation.
00:17Many of the misleading claims relate to Magyar's immigration policy,
00:21such as these social media posts.
00:23They say that the new Hungarian leader has announced that all Ukrainian
00:27and other non-EU immigrants will lose their work permits starting in June
00:31and will be expelled from the country.
00:33But this isn't accurate.
00:35What Magyar actually said was that Hungary wouldn't allow non-EU guest workers in Hungary
00:39from the 1st of June, 2026.
00:41Moreover, he said this during his New Year's speech on the 1st of January.
00:45He didn't reiterate this specific policy plan in a press conference he gave after winning,
00:50although he did mention that Hungary would take a hard-line stance on immigration.
00:54Elsewhere, an interview with Magyar claims to show the Prime Minister-elect pushing for
00:59Orbán to become President of the European Commission in 2029.
01:02It spread on X, Facebook and TikTok.
01:05But this clip is from 2024, when Magyar was interviewed by independent Hungarian news outlet
01:11Telex.
01:11In the video, he asks the hypothetical question of what if Viktor Orbán were President of the
01:17European Commission.
01:18He says that although Orbán has a vision, most people in Hungary probably don't agree with it.
01:23Therefore, this video isn't recent and doesn't show Magyar endorsing Orbán to run for President
01:28of the European Commission.
01:30It's unclear who's behind these claims about Magyar.
01:33But in the run-up to the election, which he won, the politician was targeted by a campaign
01:38researchers linked to Storm 1516.
01:41This is a prolific Russian disinformation campaign that has frequently targeted elections in Europe
01:46and beyond.
