00:00I want to begin by offering my most heartfelt thanks to Jerry Newman and the
00:04Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for this singular honor. I'm so excited to be here
00:12for so many reasons, not the least of which is it gives me an opportunity to
00:15acknowledge some people who have been more than influential in my life. They've
00:19been load-bearing. I will begin with everyone that is here from my creative
00:23family at Warner Television. A relationship that began with a friendly
00:28hug from Peter Roth 30 years ago and continues into the warm embrace of the
00:32incomparable Channing Dungey. Casey Bloys and everyone at HBO Max, the entire crew
00:39over at John Wells Productions including the man himself, I am so grateful to be
00:44in partnership with you. Our long-standing relationship has been the most creative
00:48and fruitful of my life and I am beyond excited when I think about the
00:53wonderful collaborations still to come. To my team, most of whom who have been with
01:00me from the very first season of ER, Danny, Sandra, Jeff, Jeff with a G who's not here
01:08today, Sean, Felicia, Jen, Lindsey, Cole, Dylan, I thank you for your labors, I thank
01:13you for your loyalty, your belief in me, your patience, your guidance, your
01:18encouragement, may this ride never end. To my speakers, to my brothers, Jonathan
01:27Frakes and Steven Weber, thank you for always taking my call. I count my memories
01:33of working and playing with you both among my most cherished. You have both
01:37modeled for me a way of life, a balancing of work and family, of art and commerce, of
01:46success and humility that has kept me in alignment and made me a better artist,
01:52father, husband and friend. We men of a certain age can get a little needy and a
01:57little mushy and sometimes we need a support group and I have the best one in
02:01the world. To my CAD brothers, you know what you mean to me, the fact that so many of
02:08you are here today speaks volumes as does Cranston's absence to my family, my parents,
02:22four, my siblings, six, my aunts, uncles, cousins, I love you and I thank you and I
02:28thank you for choosing to live in LA. We are really proud to be Angelinos. To my wife,
02:36Sarah and my three amazing children, Owen, Aud, and Francis, you are my north, south,
02:42east, west. You are the reason I get up. You're my motivation to try harder. You're
02:49the source of my creativity. I thank you for your inspiration and for giving my life
02:53meaning and definition. And lastly to my colleagues, all of the incredible writers,
03:00directors and actors I've had the pleasure of knowing over the decades, all the crews
03:04I've been fortunate enough to work alongside. Thank you for your camaraderie,
03:08your inspiration and your talent. You're what make it. You're what make it fun. So this
03:17is a really good spot. In fact this spot is almost equidistant between where I was
03:24born and where I was raised. I was born at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital just down
03:30across from Kaiser where my mother worked as a scrub nurse in the orthopedic
03:34department through my entire youth. And I was raised, you can clap for my mom, in those
03:42canyons just north of Hollywood Boulevard on the other side of La Brea. Laurel Canyon,
03:47Nichols Canyon, Curzon Canyon, Runyon Canyon, those were our playgrounds as
03:52children, although we were not allowed to go up into Runyon Canyon. That's where the
03:55bikers and the junkies were running amok. I'm told it's very nice now though. I went to
04:01preschool on Hollywood Boulevard. At St. Thomas Episcopal Church, I went to summer
04:05camp at Temple Israel across the street. I went to elementary school just south of
04:10Hollywood Boulevard on Gardner and I played youth basketball at the Hollywood YMCA on
04:14Schrader. I made weekly excursions, pilgrimages to the Man Chinese, the El Capitan,
04:21the Egyptian, the Fox, the Vogue, the Vine, and that is where I fell in love with all
04:25things movies. And it was at the Pantages Theater where I fell in love with theater,
04:31watching Mandy Patinkin and Evita, Dick Van Dyke as the Music Man, Sandy Duncan as
04:37Peter Pan. I have walked up and down this street, hopscotching over these names for
04:4350 years, daydreaming. I used to put my foot over the Beery and Noah Beery Jr.'s name
04:49and think, maybe one day. When I was 16, I got my first paid work as an actor. I got
04:56$100 for redubbing a romantic Lee's voice in a Dennis Dugan comedy called Lame Ducks.
05:01And the recording studio was just next to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. When I was
05:0618, I got my first apartment, 7235 Hollywood Boulevard, the St. James Terrace with my dear
05:12friend Zach Luna, who is here today. In 1989, I was walking down the street with my friend
05:17Paul Guterres and somebody from a moving car shot me in the ass with a BB gun, right
05:22outside Hollywood Toy and Magic. My father once owned a business on Hollywood Boulevard.
05:28He ran the Laserium show at the Vine Street Theater for a while. I met my wife Sarah at
05:35the Stella Adler Theater, 76-73 Hollywood Boulevard. I have history up and down this street like
05:41nowhere else on earth. And today, becoming part of that history is a true childhood dream come
05:47true. As far back as I can remember, I have wanted to be part of it, to be initiated into
05:54the club and company of show folk, those crazy diverse individuals, that tribe of oddballs
06:01and eccentrics, dreamers and gamblers who make up this business. I love it more than I can
06:06say. It is all I've ever wanted to do and the only place I've ever wanted to be. It has
06:12been the joy of my life playing for you, being welcomed into your homes, becoming part of
06:18your history and your evolution. And I am truly humbled by this honor, gratified and inspired
06:23beyond words by this ceremony. And I will cherish the memory of this moment forever. Thank you very much.
06:32On behalf of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, it is my honor and privilege to welcome the
