00:1510 years younger than me. That qualifies.
00:19Praise God. Hello, Living Word.
00:24Glory to Jesus. Go ahead and be seated.
00:28Well, I'm glad I'm back. Always glad to be able to come.
00:31Appreciate the long relationship that we've had. You know,
00:35longevity is one of those things that you come to value the longer
00:38you live.
00:44And I remember an event in my life. I've told this story many times, but I was with,
00:50happened to be with Dr. Lester Summerall on a
00:54three-week trip with a small group of people
00:57going through the Orient,
01:00places that he had established in ministry
01:03many years before. He was in his
01:05jubilee year of ministry when I was there
01:07with him. And in
01:09Hong Kong,
01:11as that service was beginning,
01:13it hadn't started just yet.
01:15They were still gathering in this
01:17little building that they were having church in.
01:20And Dr. Summerall was going to be speaking that morning
01:24and four of us guys had gone.
01:26It's, I won't take you through the details,
01:28but one of the guys
01:29had a question for Dr. Summerall.
01:31So, could I ask you just a question?
01:3350 years of ministry,
01:35what is your key to longevity?
01:38And Dr. Summerall,
01:40he could kind of blurt things out.
01:41It sounded a little harsh,
01:42but it was just his manner.
01:44And what is the,
01:46what has been your key?
01:47I thought that was a great question.
01:48And here was his answer.
01:50I didn't quit.
01:53No commentary,
01:54no added,
01:55added ideas along with it.
01:57He just
01:59answered the question.
02:00I didn't quit.
02:00If you don't quit,
02:01you're there a long time.
02:04There's a message in there
02:05that I'm not preaching today,
02:07but it'd be good for you.
02:09Glory to Jesus.
02:11You glad you're a believer?
02:13You're glad you're a living word?
02:15Boy, we love this ministry.
02:17Praise God.
02:18You have found a home
02:19and a dynamite place of ministry.
02:22And I know you're enjoying it.
02:23I'm glad you're here on a Saturday night.
02:25It is Saturday, right?
02:28All right.
02:29Well, I want to jump right into some things.
02:31I know you're here for
02:33a limited amount of time.
02:36Guys like me can go on
02:37long amounts of time.
02:39And so for us to get along,
02:41we're both going to have to compromise.
02:45I read something
02:46a number of years ago now.
02:48It was a little piece
02:49that wasn't really a Christian theme,
02:53but it was a small piece
02:55that God used
02:56to stir something up in me
02:58that I need to minister to you today.
03:01And it was really
03:02an article
03:05about how the training
03:07of high-flying trapeze artists
03:10begins.
03:12They fly through the air
03:13with the greatest of ease,
03:15those crazy people
03:15on the flying trapeze.
03:17I know that's not it.
03:18How many of you
03:19have been to the circus?
03:20You know what I'm talking about.
03:21How many of you would admit
03:22right here in church
03:23that you've been to the circus?
03:25Yeah, all right.
03:26Yeah, we've got you pegged now.
03:32But obviously,
03:34people need training
03:36if they're going to go through
03:37any exercise like this
03:39and the danger of it.
03:40You get it.
03:41They had to be trained
03:42and when they would begin
03:44to learn
03:46or train these students,
03:48they knew that one of the very first things
03:50that had to be dealt with
03:52was they had to eradicate fear
03:55out of these trainees.
03:59And so they
04:02began their training
04:03by having them
04:04climb up
04:05not terribly high
04:06but just high enough,
04:08swing out on a trapeze
04:10and fall.
04:13And that was the entire exercise.
04:15They were to swing out
04:16and fall
04:17purposely
04:18into the net
04:20knowing that
04:22this net
04:23is going to catch them.
04:26And time after time,
04:28they would swing out,
04:29fall,
04:30and fall into the net.
04:32Every time,
04:33obviously,
04:34then,
04:34the net
04:35is going to catch them.
04:36And what they were learning
04:38was that the net
04:40would always catch them.
04:42They would always be safe
04:44if they were to fall.
04:46They can do their tricks.
04:48They can learn how to do
04:49various other stunts
04:51at the high altitudes
04:52that they'll end up
04:54at.
04:55But
04:55if they fall,
04:57they are always going to fall
04:59into the net.
05:00And they found this,
05:02that the more they
05:03were confident
05:05in that net
05:06catching them,
05:07the less fear
05:08they had.
05:09And the whole idea
05:11was not to fall.
05:13It was to eradicate
05:14the fear of the fall.
05:16But the way to do that
05:17is to understand
05:18that the net
05:19is always going
05:20to catch you.
05:22And I had the Holy Spirit
05:23just target something
05:25inside of me
05:26about the net
05:29as God's grace,
05:31the grace net
05:32that will always
05:33catch a person
05:34if they stumble,
05:36if they fall,
05:37if they make a decision
05:38that doesn't go just right,
05:41or if they fail
05:42in one way or another
05:43or find themselves
05:44in trouble,
05:45there is a net
05:46that will always
05:47catch them.
05:49Glory to God.
05:50What a message
05:51that God started
05:52to unload in me.
05:53And so I had the Lord
05:55lead me through
05:57three events
05:58in the life of Peter.
05:59And I'm going to do
06:00my best to pack
06:01all of this in
06:02in the next few minutes.
06:04Three different events
06:05where Peter,
06:06our favorite guy,
06:07he gives all of us
06:08a sense of courage
06:10that if God
06:12can use Peter,
06:14then God
06:15can use us.
06:19And that deserved
06:20a better amen
06:21than that.
06:24So I want us
06:25to jump into
06:26a few different passages.
06:27I'm going to read
06:28some from the Bible.
06:29So if you brought
06:30your Bible,
06:30we're going to use it.
06:33Beginning in
06:33Matthew chapter 14,
06:35one of the events
06:36in Peter's life
06:40where
06:42I'll just jump in
06:43and start reading
06:44in verse 25.
06:45Now in the fourth
06:46watch of the night,
06:48Jesus went to them
06:49walking on the sea.
06:51And when the disciples
06:52saw him walking
06:54on the sea,
06:55they were troubled,
06:56said,
06:56it's a ghost.
06:58They cried out
06:59for fear.
07:00But immediately
07:00Jesus spoke to them,
07:02saying,
07:02be of good cheer,
07:04it is I,
07:04do not be afraid.
07:05Now watch this.
07:06So Peter answered him
07:07and said,
07:08Lord,
07:08if it is you,
07:10command me to come
07:11to you on the water.
07:13And Jesus answered
07:14and said,
07:15come.
07:16Just one word,
07:16just come.
07:19Now,
07:20let me remind you,
07:21Peter's the only one
07:22out of all of the men
07:24that are in this ship
07:25that thought like this.
07:27Apparently,
07:27everybody else
07:28was fine
07:29to just stay
07:29in the ship.
07:31Peter
07:31had a mindset
07:34that if Jesus
07:35is doing it,
07:37I want to do it too.
07:39Now,
07:40God can work
07:41with somebody
07:41like that
07:42in a big way.
07:44If Jesus
07:45has something
07:46going on,
07:48I want in
07:49on the action.
07:50I want to be one
07:51that is being used
07:53or stepping out.
07:55And that's what
07:56Peter was
07:57concluding here.
07:58He said,
07:58if it is,
07:59you command me
08:00to come on the water.
08:01Jesus said,
08:02come.
08:02And when Peter
08:02had come out
08:03of the boat,
08:04he walked
08:04on the water
08:05to Jesus.
08:06I mean,
08:06he's doing it.
08:07Glory to God.
08:09He's doing it.
08:09He's flying high
08:10like that trapeze artist.
08:12Flying high.
08:13But you know
08:14the story,
08:14how it goes.
08:16He's not going
08:16to fly high
08:17for long.
08:17He is going
08:18to fall.
08:21In fact,
08:23the very next
08:24verse,
08:26verse number
08:2630,
08:28says,
08:28when he saw
08:29the wind
08:29was boisterous,
08:30he was afraid.
08:33He wasn't fearful
08:34a moment ago,
08:35but now the wind
08:37has caught his attention.
08:39Now,
08:39this is a man
08:40that had done
08:40a lot of work
08:41on the ocean
08:41or on the sea,
08:42rather.
08:43And so,
08:44he knew the trouble
08:45that winds
08:46and boisterous waves
08:47could cause
08:48and it got his attention.
08:52He was afraid
08:53and beginning to sink,
08:56he cried out saying,
08:57Lord,
08:57save me.
08:59Beginning to sink.
09:01Why did he begin
09:02to sink?
09:03Because something
09:05got his attention
09:06that struck fear
09:07that was totally
09:09irrelevant
09:09to what was happening.
09:12I mean,
09:13it's not any easier
09:14to walk on
09:15smooth water
09:17than it is
09:18to walk on
09:19wavy water.
09:20You ever tried
09:21walking on water?
09:22Anybody here?
09:23Just,
09:24I've told this here
09:25before,
09:25I'm sure.
09:26I tried one time.
09:29I was right
09:30at the Sea of Galilee,
09:31right where this
09:32all was taking place.
09:33I was there
09:34with a good friend,
09:35Rick Renner.
09:36Some of you are familiar
09:36with Rick Renner's ministry,
09:38just dynamite man of God.
09:39I was there
09:40with him
09:41and a small team
09:41of people.
09:42We were teaching
09:44at a leadership conference
09:45and one day
09:47we had off
09:48and ran around
09:49all over the place
09:50and at one point
09:51we were right
09:52by this sea
09:53where this
09:54had taken place
09:55and Rick
09:56and the other guys
09:57were off
09:57a little ways away
09:58and nobody
09:59was standing around
10:00and I looked
10:00at the water
10:01and I thought,
10:01you know Dennis,
10:02let's just see
10:03what you got.
10:05I mean,
10:05if this was going
10:06to work out anywhere
10:07it could work out here.
10:09So I flipped
10:10my shoes off,
10:11took off my socks,
10:12rolled up my cuff
10:13and stepped out
10:14onto the water
10:14and went right
10:15to the bottom
10:15of course.
10:17It was weeks
10:17before I really
10:18thought it through
10:19that the flipping
10:20off the shoes
10:21and socks
10:21and rolling up
10:22the cuff
10:22is a real window
10:24into what I thought
10:24was about to happen.
10:28Sad but true.
10:29I don't like
10:30telling that part
10:30of this
10:31but anyway,
10:32that's the way it was.
10:33So no,
10:33that didn't work out.
10:35Peter began to sink.
10:38He was flying high
10:39a moment ago
10:39and now he's falling fast
10:41but he knew
10:42which way to turn
10:43and what to shout
10:44and what to cry out.
10:45It wasn't heavy theology
10:48but it was the right word
10:49at the right time
10:50in the right direction
10:51and Jesus reached out
10:53and immediately
10:54picked him up.
10:55Peter was caught
10:57in that net
10:58of grace
10:59and lifted up
11:02out of the water
11:03and then
11:03you read on
11:04and he walked
11:06back to the boat
11:07with Jesus.
11:08He's walking
11:09on the water again.
11:10He wasn't out man.
11:12He was still
11:13in
11:15but now he realized
11:17that he needed help
11:19to stay on target
11:22and stay focused
11:23and that is a real
11:25key aspect
11:26of what the life
11:27of faith
11:28has to do.
11:29It has to stay
11:30focused on the promise
11:32and on the power
11:33of God
11:34that is available
11:35regardless
11:36of the boisterous
11:38wind and waves
11:39and whatever that looks like
11:40and what you're facing
11:41right now
11:42regardless of what's
11:43blowing your way
11:45those things really
11:47are irrelevant
11:48to what's actually
11:50promised
11:51to you
11:52that you can walk
11:54supernatural
11:55and see the power
11:56of God
11:57in your situation
11:58right now
11:59so be encouraged
12:00right now
12:01Jesus is reaching
12:03out to you
12:04to lift you up
12:05out of sinking.
12:10now look
12:12from starting
12:13to sink
12:14which Peter
12:15it says
12:15began to sink
12:16between beginning
12:18to sink
12:19and actually being
12:19sunk
12:20doesn't take
12:21all that long
12:23Peter had to be
12:24quick on this
12:25but he was
12:26Jesus reached out
12:28immediately
12:28lifted him up
12:29and Peter walked
12:30back to the boat
12:31but notice
12:31Jesus words
12:33once
12:35they were back
12:36in the boat
12:39he caught him
12:41and said to him
12:42O ye of little faith
12:44why did you
12:45doubt
12:48now if
12:49walking on the water
12:52is O ye of little faith
12:56I don't even want to
12:57guess where that
12:58might leave
12:58some of us
13:04but Peter
13:05was flying
13:06high
13:07fell fast
13:09but was lifted
13:10up by being
13:11caught in that
13:12net
13:13and I want you
13:14to hear that
13:14over and over
13:15again tonight
13:16that you
13:18regardless
13:19of what's
13:20going on
13:21will always
13:22have that
13:24net of grace
13:25there to catch
13:26you
13:30even when
13:31you have
13:32little faith
13:35Peter had
13:36little faith
13:37is what
13:38Jesus said
13:39and he was
13:40caught in the
13:40net
13:41glory to God
13:42that's good
13:42preaching
13:43Dennis

13:51to me
13:51I'll just
13:51put a little
13:52side note
13:53in here
13:53that
13:53the gospel
13:55of Mark
13:55also
13:56details
13:56a lot
13:57of this
13:57same
13:57miracle
13:58it happened
14:00right after
14:00the feeding
14:01of 5,000
14:02Jesus sent
14:04them all
14:04away
14:04all the
14:05disciples
14:06then
14:06to go
14:07across
14:07the sea
14:08then Jesus
14:09came walking
14:09to them
14:10on the
14:10water
14:11but Mark's
14:12gospel
14:12says nothing
14:13about Peter
14:14walking on
14:15the water
14:16and you
14:17come to
14:17realize
14:18that it's
14:19believed
14:20that Mark's
14:21gospel
14:21was literally
14:22dictated
14:23story after
14:24story by
14:25the apostle
14:26Peter
14:26and Mark
14:27wrote it
14:28and apparently
14:29Peter didn't
14:29want his
14:30sinking
14:30to be
14:31documented
14:32as well as
14:33some of the
14:34others
14:34had documented
14:36it
14:36I don't know
14:37I might have
14:38done the same
14:39thing
14:40anyway you
14:41don't care
14:41but I thought
14:42that was an
14:42interesting
14:43point
14:46a couple
14:47of chapters
14:47later in the
14:48gospel of
14:49Matthew
14:49we've got
14:50another event
14:51where Peter
14:52fell
14:52he was
14:53flying high
14:54and he
14:54fell fast
14:55and I want
14:55to read
14:56this to you
14:56also
14:57because he's
14:58our hero
14:58Peter is
15:00even though
15:01he was
15:02flying high
15:02and falling
15:03fast
15:04he was
15:04caught in
15:05the net
15:05glory to
15:06God
15:06now watch
15:07this
15:07Matthew 16
15:08beginning in
15:09verse 13
15:10when Jesus
15:11came to the
15:12region of
15:12Caesarea
15:13Philippi
15:14he asked
15:15his disciples
15:15saying who
15:16do men
15:17say that I
15:18the son of
15:19man am
15:20and so
15:21they said
15:22some say
15:22you're
15:22John the
15:23Baptist
15:24some Elijah
15:25others
15:26Jeremiah
15:26or one
15:27of the
15:27prophets
15:28now a little
15:28side note
15:29you read
15:30that and you
15:30realize that
15:31Israel was
15:32really in a
15:33dark place
15:34at this
15:34stage of
15:35history
15:36I mean
15:37people in
15:38Israel that
15:39the disciples
15:40had heard
15:41talking about
15:41Jesus
15:42ministry
15:43they were
15:44some of
15:45them believing
15:45in channeling
15:46that Jesus
15:47was actually
15:47channeling the
15:48spirit of
15:49John the
15:50Baptist
15:50who had
15:51recently been
15:51murdered
15:52well the
15:53Bible doesn't
15:54teach anything
15:54about channeling
15:55being a
15:56scriptural concept
15:57at all
15:59but there were
15:59people in
16:00Israel that
16:00believed it
16:02others were
16:03believing in
16:04reincarnation
16:05that Jesus
16:06was one of
16:06the prophets
16:08of old who
16:08had been
16:09reincarnated
16:10the Bible
16:11doesn't teach
16:12reincarnation
16:14in fact it's
16:15very clearly
16:16not biblical
16:18and there's
16:19plenty you can
16:20study about
16:21that and
16:21you should
16:22and be
16:23clear on
16:23that
16:25at any
16:25rate
16:26that's what
16:27others were
16:27saying that's
16:28what the
16:29disciples were
16:29saying they
16:30were quoting
16:30what they
16:31had heard
16:32but Jesus
16:33then went on
16:33with a second
16:34question and
16:35this is where
16:36it's so strong
16:37in verse 15
16:38he said to
16:39them but who
16:39do you say
16:40that I am
16:41now there's the
16:43question every
16:43one of us has
16:44to answer and
16:46Jesus is to
16:47you and to
16:49me only who
16:50we say he
16:51is in himself
16:53he is king
16:55of kings and
16:56lord of lords
16:56but he's not
16:58your king until
16:59you declare him
17:00to be your
17:01king he's your
17:03savior when you
17:04announce him to
17:05be savior he's
17:08your baptizer in
17:09the Holy Spirit
17:11when you announce
17:12him to be that
17:13in your life he's
17:15your healer when
17:16you declare he's
17:17your healer he
17:18is nothing less
17:21but nothing more
17:23than who you say
17:24he is you see it
17:27is the authority
17:28that's been given
17:29to each of us to
17:30make the choice as
17:32to who he is in
17:33our life it's
17:34amazing that all
17:36the great power of
17:37the resurrection has
17:39no power in a
17:41person's life until
17:42they decide it
17:44it's not until you
17:45make the decision
17:46that Jesus becomes
17:48savior in your
17:49life he is savior
17:51of the whole world
17:52he's paid the price
17:53for every person
17:55on the planet
17:56throughout all of
17:57history now that
17:58all can be saved
18:00and yet salvation
18:01only comes to
18:03those who announce
18:04him as their
18:06personal savior
18:09has to be done
18:10nobody can do it
18:11for us
18:11you got to do it
18:12yourself
18:14the instant that
18:16you do that's how
18:17it works the moment
18:18that you declare him
18:19to be your lord and
18:20savior he becomes
18:21exactly that
18:23and you're born of
18:24the spirit of god
18:26come into the kingdom
18:27of god heaven's your
18:28home
18:29and he infuses in
18:31you the power of the
18:32spirit of god
18:33god for that
18:35brand new life
18:37but it's not until
18:38you save these
18:40things
18:43i find that amazing
18:45that he's put that
18:46much authority
18:49in our decision
18:50he doesn't make
18:51decisions for us
18:52he'll lead us and
18:54guide us and give us
18:55all the directions
18:55we need
18:57that's partly what
18:58i'm doing here right
18:59now is giving you
19:00any direction you
19:00might need
19:01if you've never
19:02made jesus the lord
19:03of your life you
19:04in the right place
19:05at the right time
19:06you declare him lord
19:08over your life today
19:09right now don't wait
19:10for me to do anything
19:11further
19:12and right now he
19:14becomes savior in
19:15your life
19:16but he's also your
19:17healer
19:17your baptizer in the
19:19holy spirit
19:20and your
19:22prosperity
19:22he is the one who
19:24will bless what you
19:25set your hands to do
19:26as you declare it
19:28anyway
19:28who do you say that
19:29i am
19:30that's that's key
19:32to our success
19:32and peter answered
19:34the question
19:35he was the only
19:36disciple that shouted
19:37it out he said
19:38you are the christ
19:39the son of the
19:41living god
19:42what a bold and
19:43dramatic statement
19:44peter made
19:45none of the others
19:47made it but peter
19:48did right off the
19:49top of his head
19:50you are the christ
19:51the son of the
19:52living god
19:52and look at what
19:53jesus said to peter
19:54he said blessed are
19:56you simon barjona
19:57for flesh and blood
19:58has not revealed this
19:59to you but my
20:00father who is in
20:02heaven
20:02peter had received
20:03revelation
20:04this wasn't merely
20:06information
20:08jesus said this was
20:09revelation
20:11there's a big
20:12difference
20:14you can listen to
20:15somebody speak
20:16or read a book
20:17and you can get
20:18information
20:20but then you can
20:21read other things
20:23and get revelation
20:26revelation
20:27revelation is
20:27something beyond
20:29reasoning
20:30it is something
20:31that comes
20:32supernaturally
20:33by the spirit
20:34to bring light
20:36and application
20:37to knowledge
20:38that god wants
20:39a person to see
20:42and peter received
20:43revelation
20:44don't you know
20:45he felt good
20:46about this
20:48i mean here
20:49he had received
20:49revelation
20:50and now jesus
20:51has said that
20:52right in front
20:52of all the other
20:53you guys
20:54i don't know
20:55i just thought
20:55that would have
20:56been a great
20:56moment
20:59i i feel like
21:00peter liked it
21:01he received
21:02revelation
21:03we have to
21:04receive revelation
21:05but while peter
21:07is flying high
21:07with revelation
21:09he's about to
21:10fall fast
21:13and it's just
21:13a few verses
21:14later in verse
21:1521
21:17that we'll
21:17jump in
21:18and see it
21:19happen
21:20from that
21:21time jesus
21:22began to
21:22show to
21:23his disciples
21:24that he
21:25must go to
21:26jerusalem
21:26suffer many
21:27things of
21:28the elders
21:28and the
21:29chief priests
21:30and scribes
21:30be killed
21:31and raised
21:33on the third
21:33day
21:34i mean jesus
21:35just laid it
21:36out the
21:37plan of
21:38redemption
21:40but look at
21:41this next
21:42verse this
21:42is this is
21:43almost shocking
21:44no it is
21:45shocking
21:45verse 22
21:47peter took
21:48him jesus
21:49aside
21:50now catch
21:51this
21:51he's pulling
21:53jesus aside
21:54after what
21:54jesus has
21:55just laid
21:55out
21:55pulling jesus
21:56aside
21:57and then
21:58look at what
21:59it says
21:59here
22:01he took
22:02jesus aside
22:03and began
22:04to rebuke
22:04him
22:07peter doesn't
22:07realize it
22:08yet but he's
22:08falling fast
22:12rebuking the
22:13lord are you
22:13kidding me
22:15how far off
22:16base have
22:17you gone
22:18in just
22:18three verses
22:20from flying
22:21high to
22:22falling fast
22:24rebuking jesus
22:25and went on
22:26to say this
22:26to the lord
22:27he said
22:28far be it
22:28from you
22:29lord
22:29this shall
22:30not happen
22:31to you
22:36jesus had
22:37some words
22:37and peter
22:38was about
22:38to get a
22:38new revelation
22:41because the
22:42next thing
22:42he heard
22:43was get
22:43behind me
22:44satan
22:46then he
22:46said to
22:47peter
22:47you
22:47are an
22:48offense
22:49to me
22:51for you're
22:52not mindful
22:53of the
22:53things of
22:53god but
22:54of the
22:54things of
22:54men
22:55oh peter
22:56got a
22:57new
22:57revelation
22:59that he
22:59was totally
23:00off base
23:01wrong in
23:02his thinking
23:03had no
23:04right or
23:04reason to
23:05be able to
23:05talk to
23:06jesus like
23:06that and
23:08he found
23:08out in no
23:09uncertain terms
23:10that you're not
23:10going to
23:10handle the
23:12things of
23:12god that
23:13casually and
23:14that way and
23:15think you're
23:15the one going
23:16to do some
23:16rebuking you
23:18got to get
23:18your head
23:19screwed back
23:19on right
23:20you know you
23:21learn early on
23:22as a christian i
23:23did but as a
23:25christian there is
23:26going to be some
23:26rebuking going
23:27on but it is
23:30always going to
23:31be god doing the
23:32rebuking and you
23:34being the
23:35rebukey it's going
23:37to be coming your
23:38way you're not
23:39sending it his
23:40way peter found
23:42this out you
23:42might as well
23:43find it out the
23:44easy way unless
23:46you've already
23:46found out but
23:49seeing things from
23:50man's point of
23:51view is always
23:52going to end
23:53up messed up
23:55and peter ended
23:56up quite messed
23:57up over this
23:59the phillips
24:00translation reads
24:03this way in verse
24:0422 jesus is
24:05speaking to peter
24:07said you stand
24:08right in my
24:09path when you
24:11see things from
24:12man's point of
24:13view and not
24:13from god's man's
24:16point of view you
24:18know you can spend
24:18a lot of time
24:19scrolling and
24:20looking and reading
24:21various things about
24:22opinions and things
24:25that are chaotic
24:26going on in these
24:27days and you can
24:28get a lot of man's
24:29point of view you
24:32got to pay attention
24:32i realize to the
24:33things that are
24:34going on i'm not
24:35saying live like
24:35your heads in the
24:36sand that's not the
24:37point but the
24:38point is man's
24:39point of view is
24:40always going to be
24:42off and you end
24:45up getting in the
24:46way instead of
24:47getting in the
24:49liberty and victory
24:50the way you were
24:50designed let me jump
24:55quickly into the
24:56third thing i want
24:59you to catch of
25:01peter's falling
25:03flying high but
25:04falling fast i'm
25:06going to jump in
25:07part way through
25:08this this happened
25:09and i'm going to
25:10read out of luke
25:1022 where jesus has
25:15already given his
25:16disciples the final
25:17teachings that he's
25:18going to give we have
25:18details of it in the
25:20gospel of john 14 15
25:2216 long in there
25:26but then the uh the
25:29pharisees and temple
25:31leaders and roman
25:32soldiers came to
25:33arrest jesus you
25:35remember how this
25:35went
25:37peter stood up and
25:39did some things
25:39resisted cut the
25:41year off
25:42one guy
25:45i mean peter was he
25:46was out there
25:47you got to love
25:48peter
25:51but something
25:51shifted i mean peter
25:53was flying high
25:55disciple of the
25:56lord but something
25:57shifted
25:58in verse 54 watch
25:59this having arrested
26:01jesus
26:01they led him and
26:03brought him to the
26:04pray to the high
26:05priest's house
26:07now watch these next
26:08few words but peter
26:11followed at a
26:12distance
26:14i want you to let
26:15that sink in
26:17because while we
26:18understand that there
26:19was a proximity of
26:20how things were
26:21playing out here
26:22that terminology is
26:24something that i
26:25think we have to
26:25take seriously and
26:27make certain in our
26:28own inventory that
26:30we're not starting to
26:31follow at more of a
26:32distance in these
26:33days
26:34there's a lot of
26:35distractions these
26:36days and a lot of
26:37things that can put us
26:38off or fill our time
26:40or fill our thoughts
26:41with a variety of
26:42things that are
26:43contrary or at least
26:45distractions to what
26:47god's really doing and
26:48saying
26:50and if you don't pay
26:51attention to these
26:52things you can find
26:53yourself following at a
26:54distance instead of up
26:56close you know now i'm
26:59always a front row type
27:00guy i like being up
27:01front i get distracted
27:02easily i guess and so
27:03up front is good for me
27:05much moving around going
27:06on and i'm paying
27:07attention to all this
27:08that's going on
27:13but in some church
27:14settings and i'm not
27:15accusing anybody here of
27:16anything so don't take
27:17this the wrong way but
27:20there are times when
27:21people have been real
27:22up front kind of front
27:23row people i'll call them
27:24front row people but
27:26their world starts to
27:28sink they start to go
27:30through some trials and
27:33disappointments and
27:33trouble situations and
27:37literally it can happen in
27:38a very literal sense
27:39front row people can
27:41start sitting further to
27:42the back
27:45i'm not being accusing
27:46toward anybody in the
27:47back i can't even see
27:47who's in the back right
27:48now so don't take it too
27:49personal but if you're in
27:51the back you might want to
27:52take inventory
27:54all right that was harsh
27:55that was rough
28:00so it's not just about
28:01where you're sitting in
28:02the church service that
28:04i'm really talking about
28:05it's how you're handling
28:07yourself when it comes to
28:09being hot for god on fire
28:11the kind of believer the
28:13zeal that you had in the
28:14very beginning are you
28:15still that zealous for the
28:18things of god are you still
28:19a up close and personal
28:21type person or are you
28:24more distanced are you
28:27allowing things to get
28:29your attention to distract
28:31you and to fill your mind
28:33with various things that
28:34are real troublesome
28:36peter started following at a
28:38distance this is the first
28:41step of what i call the road
28:43to denial because peter's on
28:45it he's at a distance now
28:48but watch what happens now
28:51when they had kindled a fire
28:53and he's that's referring to
28:54those people that had had
28:56just had just arrested jesus
28:58these are not friends of the
29:00gospel or of jesus they
29:01weren't disciples when they
29:04had kindled a fire in the
29:05midst of the courtyard and sat
29:07down together peter here's the
29:09words i want you to catch peter
29:11sat among them he was sitting
29:14at the wrong fire he was joining
29:19himself with people that were
29:21against jesus that had been used
29:24for jesus arrest these weren't
29:27believers these weren't followers
29:29of christ peter wanted to sit with
29:33them at that fire and blend in
29:38you know you got to pay attention
29:39who you're hanging with who you're
29:42blending in with now look that
29:45doesn't mean we're trying to live
29:46an isolated life an elite kind of
29:51life where nobody can be around us
29:53and that's not the point at all we
29:56need to be around people in the in
29:58the world people outside of the
30:00kingdom of god they need us they
30:02need you they need your witness and
30:04they need your influence and they
30:05need your faith and they need your
30:07prayer but we're not trying to
30:10blend in we're not going to
30:12compromise because they're in the
30:14room but peter sat at the wrong
30:19fire blending in and trying to be
30:23unnoticed but a certain servant
30:26girl seeing him as he sat by the fire
30:28looked intently at him and said this
30:30man was also with him jesus was within
30:33earshot he could see and hear all that
30:36was going on and here here it came
30:41verse 57 but he being peter denied
30:44jesus saying woman i do not know him
30:48after a little while another saw him
30:51and said you are you also are of them
30:56and peter said man i am not then after
31:00about an hour had passed peter still at
31:02the same fire another confidently
31:06affirmed surely this fellow was with
31:10him for he is a galilean and peter
31:14said man i do not know what you're
31:17saying three times he's now denied the
31:20lord immediately while he was still
31:24speaking the rooster crowed and the
31:28lord turned and looked at peter and
31:31peter remembered the word of the lord
31:33that he had said to him before the
31:36rooster crows you will deny me three
31:39times and peter had done it he left
31:43there and was bitter and weeping and
31:46sorrow that he had denied the lord and
31:48really let go of his discipleship he
31:52would not have seen himself as a
31:53disciple right then he had betrayed the
31:55lord really just like judas had judas had
31:58betrayed the lord and peter would have
32:03isolated himself like judas had except
32:08he didn't you find peter is back with
32:12the disciples shortly he may have
32:16already in his mind disqualified
32:17himself but watch what happened one
32:19last passage i want to give you can
32:21you take just a bit more you have no
32:24idea how long guys like me can talk but
32:28now watch this mark chapter 16 this is
32:32after jesus has been raised from the dead
32:34some have come to the tomb now to find
32:37jesus body but they didn't find his body
32:41obviously but one of the marys ducked
32:46inside and saw where jesus had laid jesus
32:50wasn't there but an angel of the lord was
32:53now in mark 16 and verse 6 it says this
32:56this angel said to them do not be
33:00alarmed you seek jesus of nazareth who was
33:03crucified he's risen he's not here see the
33:06place where they laid him but go tell his
33:10disciples look at this and peter that he is
33:15going before you to galilee and there you
33:18will see him as he said to you don't just
33:22tell the disciples
33:26this grace net had caught him he was still a
33:30disciple though he didn't feel like one he
33:32had denied the lord three times didn't
33:34feel he qualified he hadn't told the other
33:36disciples he had done this but in himself
33:39he would have felt unworthy he would have
33:44felt like he didn't belong until the word of
33:48the lord came to him through the women that
33:51came back with that message from the angel
33:53tell the disciples but don't just only tell
33:57the disciples be sure and tell peter also
34:02peter heard his own name
34:07he was caught in the net he wasn't
34:11excommunicated he wasn't out he hadn't failed so
34:14drastically that there was no restoration for
34:17him and here's the message my friend you
34:19haven't either you haven't failed in a way that
34:23isolates you or puts you out go tell the
34:28disciples and peter and you that jesus wants to
34:32be fresh and on fire inside of you right now no
34:38matter how distant you've become no matter how
34:41far back you've gone no matter how much you have
34:45even denied here's the message you are just like
34:51peter you are caught in this net right now
34:58i'll give you one last passage i told you that last one was the last one and it
35:02was until this one i want you to hear micah chapter 7 in verse 8 but i want you to
35:10stand while i read this this will help us all
35:17because the prophet micah addresses this exact kind of thing
35:22where micah chapter 7 in verse 8 says it this way
35:26says do not rejoice over me my enemy for when i fall i will arise
35:35he didn't say if i fall
35:38he said when i fall we know there's times we stumble we know there's times
35:44there's trouble we understand that but when i fall i will arise
35:48and when i sit in darkness the lord will be a light to me glory to god say it out
35:57loud
35:58don't rejoice over me my enemy
36:02when i fall i arise when i sit in darkness the lord is my light
36:13lord be my light right now i declare these things in jesus name
36:23amen amen glory to god amen
36:31did you receive something in this tonight
36:34that doesn't light you on fire like brother copeland says your wood is wet
36:40we're not in darkness the lord is our light
36:44you are not on the outside but you are on the inside you are an insider caught in the grace
36:49of god
36:49and god's not willing to let you go
36:52so you go free in the name of jesus and rise up strong and tall
36:57don't let condemnation have its voice in your head
37:01for another minute you belong in the household of faith
37:05and you're in in jesus name amen glory to god come on shout a praise to the lord
37:11pastors come right ahead thank you
37:15thank you sir what a great word please be seated
37:18want to make sure we end all of our services with an opportunity to receive christ jesus as lord and
37:23savior
37:24don't miss this if somebody's
37:26out here has never received jesus as lord and savior i want to give you an opportunity
37:30i prayed that prayer a prayer at the age of 27 changed my entire life and gave me direction in
37:36life
37:37if you don't have christ today you need him right now
37:40don't miss this this is not to become religious
37:42this is just to receive eternity in father god's presence
37:49those that are online right now i encourage you you can pray this prayer right now
37:53i pray this simple prayer one when i didn't entirely change my entire life
37:58it did not make me religious nothing like that but it changed my destiny
38:03so would you reach out for jesus and i just everyone pray just repeat after me
38:07dear father god i ask you to forgive me of all of my sin
38:12i ask you dear jesus come into my life
38:16come into my heart be my lord and my savior in jesus name amen bless god if you made that
38:28decision
38:28to dine god is working in your life your home your family everything when you wake up tomorrow
38:35morning it's gonna look a whole lot brighter and a whole lot different bless god make sure there's
38:40somebody going to be available up here available just to answer some questions that you might have
38:45about what your decision was so please don't leave without talking to someone at the end of the aisles
38:50but they'll be able to explain some things to you okay let's see dr murray you we have some

40:09kids which is one of the biggest supply drives that we do all year that's july 26 and here's what

40:14is we're going to give 150 kids in need new sneakers a backpack and school supplies to start the year
40:21off
40:21right and so what we need from you as our generous church is to donate those supplies so that we
40:26can do

40:30need and help on the day of if you would like to volunteer there's also a sign up to volunteer
40:34on

41:51about them and that lord now that they will go home safely in the favor and the blessing of god
41:58and no harm and no disaster can come any near any of them in jesus name amen
42:07make sure you can say thank god this is the day that the lord hath made i will rejoice
42:12and be glad in it that's the way to wake up
