00:00You should always walk into your space and know that it's you that lives in the space.
00:09Rule number one is to always design in layers. Without layers, a space can feel too flat and
00:15one-dimensional. Layering is what gives it depth and richness and for me that comes through
00:21materiality, lighting, art, accessories and how the light interacts in the space. When a space
00:27is layered properly it feels more immersive and considered and it gives it depth and richness.
00:32Rule number two is creating warmth through materiality. I'm very intentional about the
00:38types of materials that I use because warmth doesn't just come from colour, it comes from texture,
00:43softness and how the light interacts and sits in the space. Even in a neutral room the right
00:49combination of materials can make the space feel calm, inviting and comfortable. Rule number three
00:54is experience over aesthetics. I design for how the space is experienced and not just how it looks.
01:01I think about how people move through a space where they gather creating areas that can feel more
01:06intimate or more open. It's about creating moments within a space and what makes it feel intentional
01:12and complete. For me good design isn't just visual, it's about how people feel and experience the space.
