00:00Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
00:02On today's show...
00:05Miserable Mushrooms.
00:06Let's get these fun guys in, sir.
00:10Oh, I not like mushrooms.
00:12I don't. Come on.
00:15Gnome names.
00:16I would be Dr Gnome, and I'd work for the National Health Service.
00:21And a pudding palaver.
00:24I think the dessert dish today was the worst course
00:28who'd been served this week.
00:30Sometimes you've got to take it on the chin.
00:31As a raft of Welsh wannabes wrestled for a wadjabwonga.
00:36It was like a big bomb had gone off.
00:39I'd rather just go...
00:41I was done with it.
00:49It's the fifth day of the competition from South Wales.
00:52Birthplace of Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue.
00:56Zmum Karel.
01:00And hoping her night will be lucky, lucky, lucky
01:03is tonight's host, civil servant, Sandra.
01:06My menu, it's fun.
01:08It's a bit cheeky.
01:10And boy, is it tasty.
01:12Yay!
01:13Oh!
01:14Go!
01:15The week kicked off with fun and frolics from Farmer Claire.
01:20I loved my night.
01:21My night went fab.
01:23I was brilliant.
01:24And her night featured Scotch eggs made from her own pigs.
01:27I'm still chuffing guys at the ochre's runny.
01:29Personally, I like my ochre hard.
01:33And some supersized portions.
01:34I'm stuck.
01:36I'm squirted in and everything.
01:37One hundred and eight!
01:39One hundred and eight!
01:40Tuesday saw account executive Richard.
01:42Let's play tats.
01:44Surprise his guests by hosting in his own pub.
01:48Oh my gosh.
01:49The night stood off fantastically well.
01:51The entertainment went brilliantly.
01:52And his caramel cheesecake was the talk of the town.
01:56This is absolutely stunning.
01:58On a totally showbiz evening, a two!
02:01Oh!
02:02Yay!
02:03I think I'm in with a squeaker win in it.
02:05Yay!
02:06On Wednesday, hotel receptionist Davy...
02:09Wait, is that burning plastic in there?
02:11...hoped to impress his guests...
02:13Wow!
02:14...by serving a mostly vegan menu.
02:16So it's time to give this vegan Wellington some welly.
02:19My night was okay.
02:20I mean, I think everybody had fun.
02:22Sadly, his terrible tofu dessert...
02:25...was really not set properly.
02:26...was not to everyone's taste.
02:28I really don't like tofu.
02:30I'm hoping I did deliver.
02:32But if not, you know, it's okay.
02:34Because I tried my best.
02:36Thursday and meat was back on the menu
02:38when dog-loving clever cog Sophie...
02:41Oh, it's slimy.
02:43...brought a taste of the Mediterranean to South Wales.
02:47Last night was a lot of fun.
02:48A little bit stressful.
02:50I slightly messed up the main course.
02:52I forgot to put the grill on.
02:54But I think everyone was very kind.
02:57Oh, you've done amazing.
02:59However, it wasn't just her food that surprised them.
03:03Oh, when I came out belly dancing, their faces, they were so surprised.
03:08They looked really happy.
03:11But it's going to be Richard who Sandra has to beat tonight
03:14as he's out in front with a very impressive 35 points.
03:19Right.
03:20And her guests have no idea what to expect.
03:23Am I worried?
03:25Yes.
03:26Am I afraid?
03:27Very, very afraid.
03:29Oh, we're going to go.
03:31This is my night.
03:32This is my night.
03:33I'm the winner.
03:34I'm the winner.
03:35Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
03:37Oi, Sandra.
03:39Put the whisk down and get on with it.
03:42And the first task for our Disco Dolly is dessert.
03:45A lemon shortbread cheesecake.
03:48So I am a sucker for a cheesecake, I'm not going to lie.
03:51It's the battle of the cheesecakes at last.
03:53I was waiting for someone else to make one
03:54to give me a bit of competition.
03:56Sandra starts by obliterating shortbread biscuits.
04:00Do you know what?
04:02I'm going to beat this competition.
04:04I'm going to beat them all.
04:08I'm not a bulldog for nothing.
04:10The crumbs are added to melted butter.
04:13You might need a bigger pan.
04:16Sandra's cheesecake is coming after Richard's cheesecake.
04:19It's going to be so hard to beat that.
04:22I think my shortbread is going to give it a nicer taste than Richard's
04:26because shortbread is delicious
04:29and it's just going to complement it beautiful.
04:32Is it going to be better than my cheesecake?
04:34I don't think so.
04:36The buttery shortbread mix is then pressed into a tin.
04:39You're looking at a real artist at work here.
04:42The shortbread Picasso.
04:44Interesting.
04:45And it's in for a chill.
04:48I like lemon cheesecake.
04:49It's really refreshing.
04:50I think the lemon as a dessert is nice.
04:54For the topping, Sandra spoons out cream cheese.
04:58The cheese are the better
04:59because this cheesecake's going to be so cheesy.
05:03Just like me.
05:04Well, you said it.
05:05In goes icing sugar.
05:08Then everything is given a whisk.
05:10Some grated lemon zest.
05:12I've never made this cheesecake for anyone other than my husband before.
05:16And he's still alive.
05:17So that's a bonus.
05:19Rosie bonus.
05:20Good game.
05:20Good game.
05:21Oh, God.
05:22If I can give Sandra higher than five for a cheesecake, I'd be amazed.
05:27No more Bruce Forsyth, please.
05:31Sandra spoons the topping onto the base and then delicately pipes on the finishing touches.
05:35A final grate of lemon zest and then lemon slices.
05:39I'm well happy with that.
05:42That's fabulous.
05:44And the lemony cheesecake is back in the fridge till tonight.
05:49On to the main, the French classic beef bourguignon with a creamy chive mash and green beans.
05:56Beef bourguignon, but I kind of think it's like a hot pot kind of thing, I think.
06:00It is a French dish and it's très bon.
06:05The très bon beef is simply sealed in a pan.
06:09I think it's some kind of like beef in like a sauce, like a tomato sauce or something.
06:13And then set aside.
06:16There's got to be any beef between my dinner guests tonight or the bulldog will be biting them.
06:22And nobody wants to see that.
06:24Yay.
06:25Beef is so flavourful, isn't it?
06:27And if it's nicely cooked, if it's nice and tender, you know, some really good flavourings in there,
06:32I think that could be delicious.
06:34I do hope that wine is from France.
06:37Australia.
06:37Ah, fair dinkum.
06:39Tomato puree is added to carrots and shallots.
06:42Veg and meat are mixed, then doused in the Aussie plonk.
06:47I like that dish.
06:48If she can pull it off and the beef's nice and tender, that could be a nice main.
06:52Then it's into the oven to slow cook till tonight, when she'll also make her mash.
06:58Finally, the starter.
07:00Creamy garlic mushrooms on toasted ciabatta with a side salade.
07:04So I've chosen creamy garlic mushrooms for my starter,
07:08because I think most people really like that as a starter to a nice meal.
07:14Oh, I know I like mushrooms.
07:16I'm not the biggest fan of mushrooms.
07:19Not ideal.
07:21Let's get these fungi zinset.
07:24A lot of work's gone into this, let me tell you.
07:27Which is a shame, because they don't seem that popular.
07:30I think some of my guests are not keen on mushrooms,
07:32but I think I'm going to change that, and they're going to leave you loving mushrooms.
07:37Good luck with that, Sandra.
07:39So I'm not a massive fan of mushrooms, to be honest.
07:42Oh, dear.
07:43Or garlic, in particular.
07:45Smell all that lovely garlic with the mushrooms.
07:47It's beautiful, isn't it?
07:49In goes cream cheese.
07:50Maybe Richard will like the mushrooms.
07:53Not really looking forward to the creamy garlic mushrooms,
07:55and maybe scraping the cream off.
07:57Good luck scraping that cream off.
08:01Warm that up later, just before my guests arrive.
08:05Perfect.
08:06She'll serve on slices of toasted ciabatta later.
08:10That's all I can do now.
08:13That's me off to go and make myself look even more beautiful than I already am.
08:17So, as Sandra heads upstairs to get ready,
08:19her guests are wondering what to expect tonight.
08:22I think Sandra is going to be unapologetically herself.
08:26And that could mean anything tonight.
08:29It starts with leopard print.
08:31It's my night tonight.
08:32It's going to be a fun night, and it's going to be all lush.
08:40First to arrive, it's Richard.
08:42Oh, my God, I love him.
08:45I've missed you guys today.
08:48Yay!
08:50Perfect.
08:51Cheers.
08:51Cheers to our last evening.
08:54Oh, come on.
08:56I wish I could go like that.
08:57I think you just did.
08:59Oh, how firm are they?
09:01They've been in the end a while, they have.
09:03Oh, it's Claire.
09:05Saved by the knock.
09:08Oh, my God, beautiful.
09:10Come in.
09:11Welcome to my home.
09:13I've already had my buns squeezed,
09:15so I feel well at home already in Sandra's house.
09:17Do you want me to squeeze your buns so you feel at home?
09:20Yes, please.
09:20Now there's an offer.
09:22Oh, your buns have been in the oven a bit, didn't they?
09:25Next in, to have a bun squeezed probably, it's Sophie.
09:29Oh, Sophie.
09:30Oh, you look gorgeous, my darling.
09:33Oh, let's check your buns, don't I?
09:36Yes, they've been in the oven.
09:39And finally, it's Davith.
09:41Look out, fella.
09:42Ben!
09:43Sandra, you're a entertainment survive.
09:45Oh, sorry, you're not what I booked.
09:48Oh, right, OK, I'm off.
09:50Hello, my love, how are you?
09:52Oh, I'm check.
09:54Let's check your buns.
09:55They've been in the oven for an hour, yes.
09:57I've done the bun watch.
09:59I've done the test.
10:00It's our rich.
10:02Oh, God!
10:06Thumb, grabbable, cheeky.
10:09You'd put them in the oven for a few hours.
10:12Slow cut.
10:12Let's have a fun last night.
10:15A fun last night.
10:16It's a fun girl.
10:17It's a fun girl.
10:19Still to come.
10:20Oh.
10:22Meaty mix-ups.
10:23The main was nicer than I thought because I just thought the shepherd's pie.
10:27Oh, I'm crying.
10:28That was actually me, that was.
10:30It was cottage pie, not shepherd's pie.
10:33And someone grabs the grand.
10:35The winner is...
10:43It's the final night of the competition from South Wales.
10:46CHEERING
10:49Where civil servant Sandra is hoping her night of homely cooking will win her the £1,000 prize.
10:55My starter tonight is going to be amazing.
10:59I'm going to blow them out of the park when they see it.
11:01So, as she reheats her creepy garlic mushrooms downstairs, upstairs, Sophie and Claire have
11:09spotted something rather spooky.
11:11Oh.
11:12Hang on.
11:13What is it?
11:14Have a guess.
11:16Oh.
11:17Do you know what I think it is?
11:18I think it's definitely like a dwarf or something.
11:21Yeah.
11:21Like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
11:23It's definitely a fancy dress, isn't it?
11:24I was thinking Father Christmas.
11:26Sandra's not just got the ears, she's not just got the beard, she's got every single part down.
11:32That is commitment to gnome life.
11:35I'm keeping these glasses.
11:37Oh, I thought they were your glasses!
11:39I'm like as intelligent as you now.
11:44I wish.
11:45And we're off.
11:46Back in the kitchen, Sandra simply spoons the topping onto toasted ciabatta.
11:51Lefty, gently, look at that.
11:52We're under starter's orders, the final starter of the week.
11:57And that final starter is creamy garlic mushrooms on toasted ciabatta with chunky red onion rings
12:03and balsamic droplets.
12:06Bonjour.
12:07Oh, ladies first.
12:09Woman of the evening.
12:10Ladies first.
12:12Wow.
12:13Please, everyone, tuck in and enjoy.
12:16Yes, tuck in to all those mushrooms and all that cream.
12:22Come on, Claire.
12:25I hate mushrooms.
12:27There's a mushroom on, AC.
12:28Where, where?
12:29It is.
12:30Oh, I'd like to drop my bread now.
12:32Come on, Claire.
12:35Right, though.
12:36Oh, I'm sorry, babe.
12:38I chewed it and I know I like it.
12:41Sandra, I think this is the first time I've genuinely enjoyed a mushroom dish.
12:46Oh, no way.
12:48Yeah, thank you.
12:49I ate all of mine and I've never finished a plate of mushrooms before.
12:54Bravo!
12:55The mushrooms are lovely and I've rubbed all the cream off the mushrooms as well.
12:59So, the garlic flavour is still on the mushrooms.
13:02It's beautiful.
13:03Mmm.
13:05Creamy mushrooms on toast, I think it's an easy starter.
13:08A bit too much cream on the garlic mushrooms, which everyone knows I don't like cream.
13:12So, not the best starter for me, if I'm honest.
13:14I've got to say, there's not mushroom left in my stomach now after eating that.
13:19It's a classic for a reason.
13:22Three of them said they didn't like mushrooms.
13:24Two out of three gave them a go and ate them all.
13:27Right, Sandra, me and Sophie went for a little mooch upstairs.
13:30Oh, yes.
13:31It was in your bedroom.
13:32Right.
13:32And at the bottom of the bed, there was a set of massive ears, a little red pointy hat, some
13:42glasses.
13:43Oh, yes.
13:44Can you explain?
13:45I absolutely love gnomes.
13:47And sometimes I go into gnome fancy dress when I go out because it makes me so happy.
13:52Oh, is that your fantasy, is it, to dress up as a gnome?
13:55I don't fantasise, babe, I do it.
13:56You do it, yeah.
13:57I mean, I've never gnomed anyone before who liked that.
14:02Well, my gnome name, I'm Gnome of the Gnome.
14:06Oh, OK, yeah.
14:07What would your gnome name be?
14:10James Gnome.
14:11Yeah, not quite right.
14:13Like this to hold my rod.
14:15LAUGHTER
14:17So, I would be Dr Gnome, and I'd work for the National Health Service.
14:22Aw!
14:23That's more like it, but no more, please.
14:26In the kitchen, Sandra cracks on with her mash.
14:30This is going to be so much nicer than what David's mash was.
14:34A quick final whisk.
14:36Tasting good?
14:38Mm.
14:40Perfect.
14:41Oh, I just remembered.
14:43I could go and get something.
14:45I think we know what this is going to be.
14:50Careful with your hat.
14:51Such a big hat.
14:53Oh, I told you.
14:54It's quite warm, I think, when this is over.
14:56I'll go to the barber's and have a bit of a shave, I think.
14:59Change of image.
15:01Might need more than a shave.
15:02Final meal of the week, because there's no place like Gnome.
15:07Just good Gnome-cooked beef bourguignon with creamy mash and green beans.
15:13Get ready, everyone.
15:15There's no place like Gnome!
15:17CHEERING
15:18Oh, my God!
15:20Are you, my darling?
15:21Oh, my God!
15:22I knew she was going to dress that.
15:25We have beef bourguignon.
15:30Oh, my God!
15:31Mind your beard, Norma.
15:33I'm quite partial to mashed potato, and this is definitely up there.
15:37Oh!
15:38This is absolutely delicious.
15:41Oh, wow.
15:41It's so, so nice.
15:43I am very strongly converted back to meat at this point.
15:48I expected a bit more succulents in the juice around it,
15:52but just to have carrots with the meat was not what I expected, really.
15:55I got a little surprise for you guys.
15:58We're all going to be there!
16:00Hats and beards for everyone, and don't forget the rosy cheeks.
16:05LAUGHTER
16:05Oh, my God.
16:07LAUGHTER
16:09I feel like my granddad eat his tea.
16:12This was on my bucket list of something I really wanted to do.
16:16I wanted to sit and have a dinner party with gnomes.
16:19And to think some people want to swim with dolphins.
16:21I've done it!
16:23Yay!
16:23Yay!
16:25What's on your bucket list of something you'd love to do?
16:28On my bucket list is, by the time I die,
16:31I want to remember everything on the periodic table.
16:35I didn't see that one coming.
16:37I know.
16:38PB is lead.
16:39Correct.
16:39Carbon?
16:41CB.
16:42No, CA.
16:43C.
16:43C for carbon.
16:45Nitrogen?
16:46N.
16:47I.
16:48Just N.
16:49Oxygen?
16:51O2.
16:52Oh, dear.
16:53More like...
16:54Safely back in human dress, it's on with dessert.
16:58Oh!
17:01Last course of the week.
17:03And we've kept the best till last.
17:06And here it is, a lemon shortbread cheesecake with a strawberry smudge.
17:11Again?
17:20Beautiful cheesecake, really nice.
17:22Lovely base, strawberries and the lemon, plenty of lemon going through it.
17:26Really, really nice.
17:26This is the lemoniest lemon cheesecake I've ever had.
17:29It's really delicious.
17:31Lemony, lemon of the lemonest of cheesecakes I've ever had.
17:34It's very lemony, but it was also very delicious.
17:37So, this cheesecake takes me right back to Sicily.
17:41Mmm!
17:42Mmm!
17:42Yeah, it just makes me feel like I'm on holiday in a beautiful country.
17:46Sun is shining.
17:47It's gorgeous.
17:48Giving a lot of life and zest into this, Sandra.
17:51Zest, a lemony joke there.
17:53I got you.
17:53You got that, yeah?
17:54Yeah.
17:56So, who wants to find out what people really thought about their night?
18:00No, no, no.
18:01I do.
18:04First to go, Claire.
18:06The starter just sounded amazing, and it was amazing.
18:09The main was nicer than I thought, because I just thought the shepherd's pie...
18:13Oh, I'm crying.
18:14I just thought the shepherd's pie would probably be more plain,
18:17but it was much more flavourful than I expected.
18:21Aw, yeah!
18:22Thank you, everyone.
18:23You know, that was a really nice comment.
18:26Aw.
18:27Aw.
18:27That was actually me, that was.
18:29Aw.
18:30Aw.
18:30It was cottage pie, you know, shepherd's pie.
18:32At least the thought was there.
18:35Aw.
18:35Sorry!
18:37I think his entertainment was winning in terms of, you know, present the trophy at the end,
18:44especially showing his belly and his nipples.
18:54So, yeah, I think the dessert dish today was the worst course we've been served this week.
19:16Aw, I'm sorry.
19:18Was that you that said that?
19:19No, I said that as well.
19:21It's Richard!
19:23It's Richard!
19:24I immediately wanted to apologise to Dav.
19:28It was a comment I had made, but it actually wasn't a comment I made.
19:33I was going to...
19:35It was me.
19:36But Claire stepped up and said it was her, and it actually was nothing to do with her, really.
19:40But, er, and it was the worst dessert of the week, and sometimes you could have taken it on the
19:44chin.
19:45Well, at least I showed some skill with my cooking.
19:48Aw, no, no, no!
19:48I like other people.
19:50I'm so sorry.
19:51Obviously, I really wished that they would have said that to me at the time.
19:55I think I wouldn't have taken it so hard reading it off a slip of paper.
19:59I wasn't the biggest fan of your courses either, but I will go with it for now.
20:04It's OK.
20:04We don't have to swap phone numbers after this.
20:07Well, I wouldn't want to be either of you right now.
20:09You can have my number, babe.
20:10Aw, it's OK.
20:11That's fine.
20:12It was like a big bomb had gone off.
20:14Oosh.
20:17Yes, perhaps we should have some scores.
