00:00Tell me about that first day, walking on set.
00:03You know, high expectations, a lot of pressure because these incredible young actors have set the bar so high with
00:11their performances.
00:12So, you know, coming in as a new guy, you have to deliver.
00:16I knew that that was the big test.
00:19My first day was with Zendaya, and I'd met her before.
00:23So it was establishing the chemistry for not only between us as actors, but for the rest of the show.
00:30And we hit it off immediately.
00:33Did you?
00:33Yeah, she's so generous, and she has a wicked sense of humor, as do I, and then really comes out
00:39in the characters.
00:42Tell me, how did the audition process, the same call, or?
00:47You know, it was quite a lengthy process.
00:50I did a self-tape at home in London, sent that in, but it took two months.
00:54What did you have to read for it?
00:56It was three extended scenes, and all of them were with Zendaya.
01:02I didn't know, you know, because it was all very cloak and dagger, but whispers were hacked.
01:08Right, that's right.
01:08So, and I did those, and I sent the tape in.
01:12I didn't hear nothing for two months.
01:14And then when I did hear, Sam had said he responded to the self-tape.
01:20And I would now like you to audition with myself and the casting director, which was Mary Vanu.
01:26And so I did another audition with them, and that was wonderful.
01:29We just played, and I've done so much research.
01:33And I just asked Sam if I could try some things, and he loved them, and in fact put some
01:38of them in the script.
01:39And it was just a wonderful collaboration.
01:43Tell me about going home after a day of shooting, making sure not to take that darkness home.
01:48Well, it's a good question, you know, because, you know, we swim in that well for nine months.
01:54And to be able to switch off, it took me a while.
01:57It took me, you know, a month or two, you know, just to sit down and just decompress.
02:04And there's part of me that missed him, you know.
02:07It's just such a, it's pathos, it's a lovely character.
02:12But, you know, all good things have to come to an end.
