00:00Across Africa, incredible homes are raising the bar of modern design.
00:04This series gives you a front row seat to unapologetically stylish spaces,
00:10the kind you can't help but save, screenshot and dream about.
00:19Today we're in South Africa's Cape Winelands and Palessa Tembes found a fabulous holiday home
00:25that's so bold and inviting you want to pack your bags immediately. This isn't just a getaway space,
00:33it's a vibe and it's all thanks to architect Bryce Henderson's vision.
00:39You know what they say Bryce, first impressions last and what a warm welcome I got walking into
00:44the space. Can you tell me about the flow? So as you would have noticed from the outside you
00:49greeted with quite a hard sort of shell of the home that sort of carves away an entrance that
00:55leads you into this beautiful courtyard space. This is a space you can sip a coffee, scroll or
01:01sneak in a few pages of your latest read. Then you hit the foyer, airy, open and setting the tone
01:08for
01:09everything that follows. It gives you that open and airy feel and also allows you to see through the
01:17house over into the lake. Yep, this house is a lake view but next stop, the kitchen. Designed for those
01:26who love to cook or just look like they do. Bryce, you know the kitchen is my favourite part of
01:32any home
01:33and here you certainly didn't disappoint. Thanks Phylesa. The kitchen in this home is more of a
01:40show piece at the end of the day. The idea behind it was actually to raise it slightly by two
01:46steps as
01:46we just arrived up and the reason behind that was that when you're in the space and you're cooking and
01:52enjoying the flow of the kitchen you also have a more elevated position to view the lake and the
01:57mountain in the distance. The kitchen has a sort of easy flow around it, sort of contains everyone
02:04around the island space. It acts as a bar server. Warm textures, earthy tones, instant nature inside
02:13energy, calm, grounded and seriously good vibes only. The stone wall slips indoors softened by satin
02:21cabinetry that melts into the room's colour mood. It's a walk in and just want to be here kind of
02:28space.
02:29Totally liveable. The thing we took through the whole home is this granite
02:34floor. Again, super easy to clean when you're coming from the inside out, wet feet from the pool,
02:39non-slip. But what that meant was a slightly colder feeling in winter with it being granite.
02:45We offset that feeling by cladding the ceiling in timber which gives you a really warm glow and
02:51encapsulates the space. We took that through the kitchen volume all the way into the living area
02:56further down and that frames the view out to the mountain range. Everything here has been
03:03individually chosen. Custom seating, handmade tables, unique lighting, no off-the-shelf items.
03:11Just straight up wow from the moment you step in. But step outside and this is where the home goes
03:19full Pinterest board material. The views spill right into the living spaces. Mountains, water, sky,
03:26all framed like perfect postcards. Bryce, the idea that you've continued the same flooring from the
03:34inside of the home all the way out to this patio terrace and then you've used wood to kind of
03:39frame
03:39it and board it. Can you unpack that idea for me? So I think the main idea was obviously to
03:46keep that flow
03:46between in and out when all the doors are pocketed open. However, with angling the home to focus on the
03:53view
03:53and the sun we were left with quite a challenge when it came to the datum lines of the grouting
03:59and
04:00alignments of all of those elements coming together. So I decided in that to rather enhance the fact that
04:07the home does have an angle to it almost like a resort feel. And something we haven't had an opportunity
04:13to talk about yet are the bedrooms. The bedrooms were more seen as sort of guest suites essentially.
04:22They are extremely calm and neutral spaces that are seen as the retreat type environment that you
04:30go to at the end of the day. The flowing bathrooms really do make it feel like a spa retreat.
04:38Ah, bliss. This is a home that brings nature inside. Calm, airy and effortlessly beautiful.
04:47Wouldn't you stay here in a heartbeat? Zen out, recharge and snapping pics from every angle.
04:53means.
04:58tell us, we're behind our accounts.
04:59With a salary of our guests comingek?
05:02Well, this is a pile of depreciation that falls into one hourряkells to five minutes,
