00:00Detectives investigating the death of Leeds businessman John Looper more than 20 years ago have arrested a man on suspicion
00:07of his murder.
00:08The 55-year-old man was arrested in Bradford on Wednesday morning and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
00:1657-year-old John Looper was killed during a robbery at his home in Sandmore Drive in Old Woodley on
00:22the night of February 16, 2004.
00:25He was attacked by a group of masked intruders as he walked his dog near a neighbour's driveway at about
00:3111.30pm.
00:33He was then dragged back to his home.
00:35Mr Looper's wife, daughter and the family's au pair were tied up and left in an upstairs bedroom until the
00:42suspects eventually left the property.
00:44Mr Looper was found unconscious downstairs and police were called at 1.45am but despite attempts to resuscitate him he
00:52was pronounced dead at the scene.
00:54Post-mortem results showed he had died as a result of asphyxiation.
00:59Jewellery and cash worth around £100,000 were taken during the robbery.
01:04Among the items taken was a rare Cartier watch that was platinum with vertical rows of diamonds either side of
01:10the face.
01:11West Yorkshire police say that they are firmly committed to doing everything they can to get justice for John Looper
01:17and his family.
01:18This includes the analysis of forensic materials which led to this new arrest.
