Abby has had the same crush since elementary school. That’s either adorable… or a slow-motion curse. Now she tries to impress him, not by talking, not by growing a spine. By hiring Santa Monica, a stripper, for lessons in confidence and sex.

The movie leans into the awkward reality: Abby is chasing a specific performance, then slowly realizes the point isn’t nailing one move. It’s figuring out what she actually wants, and how to stop treating her own body like a homework assignment.

And somehow, instead of just going for cheap laughs, it lands on something stickier. Friendship, self-discovery, and that rare kind of honesty that doesn’t ask you to pretend. Also: the title is… doing a lot.

Abby ist seit der Grundschule in denselben Kerl verknallt. Das Problem. Sie weiß nicht, wie man damit umgeht. Also lässt sie sich von der Stripperin Santa Monica ausbilden. Klar, klingt nach einem schlechten Plan, ist aber gleichzeitig genau das Schlamassel, das funktioniert: Abby bekommt Selbstbewusstsein als Unterrichtsstoff und Sexualität als Nachhilfe, bis das Ganze von „ich will ihn beeindrucken“ auf „wer bin ich eigentlich“ kippt.

Zwischen peinlichen Sessions, ehrlichen Momenten und der überraschend warmen Idee, dass echte Nähe mehr bringt als die perfekte Nummer, macht „Summer of 69“ ziemlich genau das, was man nicht von einem Titel erwartet. Und ja. Es nimmt sich nicht komplett ernst.
