“Köln 75” is basically a rebellious 18-year-old doing the most 1975 thing possible. Vera Brandes wants Keith Jarrett in Cologne, and her conservative parents want her to be normal. So she doesn’t ask politely. She books the Cologne Opera anyway. On her own risk. In the middle of January 1975.

Then the plan becomes a live wire. Jarrett takes the piano and improvises a full hour, and it’s the kind of performance that can still fall apart right up until the last second. The movie’s best trick is how it treats that uncertainty as suspense, not as fluff.

By the time the improvisation gets immortalized on record as “The Köln Concert,” you realize the film isn’t romanticizing it. It’s celebrating a decision made with zero safety net.
----------
