Homicide Squad New Orleans - Season 3 Episode 1 - Teenage Tragedy
Transcript
00:00You
00:22Call 8-9-1-1. Do you need police fire MS? Hello?
00:25Bro, I need an ambulance! Ambulance!
00:28What's the location?
00:30Bungie, we're on!
00:32Bro, I think my brother is dead.
00:34Tell me what's going on. Tell me exactly what happened.
00:36Bro, my brother got shot, man. Come on!
00:38My brother got shot in here to help.
00:40Okay, we have police fire and EMF on the way.
00:50They about to come up.
00:52No pulse.
00:54No pulse.
00:56No pulse?
00:58Say, brother, who did this?
01:00I don't know!
01:02Y'all just found him right there?
01:04I don't know!
01:06Y'all just found him right there?
01:08Yeah!
01:10I don't know!
01:12It's my own call weekend.
01:14I was enjoying the Saints game.
01:16We're losing right now.
01:18But then I just got a call.
01:20Maybe we have a shooting out here in New Orleans East,
01:22which is actually where I'm from.
01:24Uh, matter of fact, we are going to pass it from my mom and my house.
01:25But, um…
01:26all I know right now is that it's a 15-year-old, I believe.
01:27Found behind an abandoned apartment complex.
01:49Hopefully, we get some witnesses or maybe some surveillance or something that's a
01:52or maybe some surveillance or something that'll kind of give me some leads early in the investigation.
01:58But I usually have good luck, so hopefully that'll happen.
02:01That's my mom's house, by the way. Hey, Mom.
02:05Being that I'm from New Orleans East, born and raised, it's kind of my area.
02:08So usually when I get cases there, one of the things that I'm hoping is that maybe somebody will see me out there
02:13who may have information. People may be more forthcoming to give me some information just because they're familiar with me.
02:19This actual apartment complex is maybe a block or two from where I grew up.
02:25I used to walk this way every morning, going to high school, elementary.
02:29I'm going to take out this parking spot right here.
02:33So let's see what we got.
02:42What's going on?
02:44Yeah, two shots. Got him shot.
02:46Okay. All right. I'll go talk to him. Appreciate it.
02:57When I get on the scene, we find the victim. He's behind an apartment complex.
03:02The front of the apartment complex still has tenants in it,
03:05but the location where we found him is an abandoned apartment complex by a tennis court.
03:09Maybe that's where everybody come hang at because there's nobody back there.
03:14It's kind of an area where the young kids come, you know, do whatever they do.
03:17So I kind of want to know if that has something to do with this.
03:21It's supposed to be Javon Elo.
03:24Mm-hmm.
03:24Uh, the brother said he had some sort of premonition and knew that his brother was going to be back here.
03:30Heard a couple pops, went back here, found him back here.
03:32My victim's name is Javon Elo.
03:35He's young. He's a teenager.
03:37He goes to a high school in the area where he stays with his grandmother in the New Orleans East.
03:42He's only 15 years old.
03:47I think that's the ****.
03:49I'm going to go talk to him in a second.
03:52You know him?
03:54He from back here.
03:55It's a part of being from back here.
03:59Unfortunately, you come across people that you, you know, you know.
04:05Being that I'm familiar with the victim's family member, of course it gives a little more fuel to the fire, but I'm like that with every investigation.
04:12Come on, J, brother.
04:13Let me talk to you right away.
04:14Come on, brother.
04:15It's me, brother.
04:16Let me talk to you first.
04:16J, come on, J.
04:18You know me.
04:18Let me talk to you first.
04:19First of all, I'm sorry for your loss.
04:21That's what we're going to do.
04:22You got to hold tight.
04:23You got to give me a second.
04:24Let me get all our stuff together.
04:25Okay?
04:25Because the main thing, we got to make sure we get all the evidence, bro, because I'm going to get you some answers.
04:29All right?
04:30You know how I move.
04:31You already know that.
04:32J, bro.
04:33You already know.
04:33I want to see my baby right now, J.
04:36I got you.
04:37I don't care about nothing else.
04:38I got you.
04:39I got you.
04:39I got you.
04:40That's the only thing going to call my nurse.
04:41Let me talk to you.
04:42I'm J, bro.
04:43So we have to wait.
04:44We have to wait for the coroner to get there.
04:46Let me get the coroner in here and let me take care of that first.
04:48All right?
04:49It doesn't matter if I know the family or not.
04:51You know, this is a 15-year-old kid.
04:53I'm going to try and do my best to give the family some justice.
04:59All right.
05:00Anything besides him out here?
05:01Did a pretty good canvas when we got out here.
05:05No casings or anything like that.
05:06So we have a canine dog coming out and a ballistic dog to see if they can try to find some evidence.
05:13Something.
05:14I mean, have the grass a little high, too, so we could be just missing it.
05:18Yeah, it'd be very difficult to spot, especially at nighttime.
05:20So, you know, if anybody heard any shots?
05:23I'm not sure.
05:24I know there's cameras in the front of this place.
05:25Yeah, there's cameras on the front at the office.
05:28That's the only ones that I know of.
05:29Okay.
05:30Of course, nothing back here, right?
05:32Probably not.
05:33This is an abandoned thing.
05:34These are abandoned.
05:34Nobody's back here.
05:35We're kind of looking for casings or maybe any other evidence that we could find.
05:40We're searching that area with flashlights, trying to see if we could find anything like that.
05:45One thing that stood out was, as we're searching the body, there's no cell phone.
05:49That's kind of weird to me because he's 15 years old.
05:52There's no way that he's out and about, and he doesn't have his cell phone on.
05:56What's that blinking on his leg?
05:58An ankle monitor.
06:01How long has he been on an ankle monitor?
06:03Do you even know?
06:04No.
06:07We may be able to track exactly where he was prior to the murder, because I want to know
06:12who else was out there when this happened.
06:13I know he wasn't out there by himself.
06:15This is crazy, bro.
06:18Still, so young.
06:19Where's his brother right now?
06:21Every time I walk back to his direction, he disappeared, so, yeah.
06:25But he doesn't want to talk to anybody.
06:26He doesn't want to talk to anybody.
06:26We got his info.
06:27He doesn't want to talk to anybody.
06:28Where is he?
06:29Uh, let's go see if he's still standing out here.
06:32The brother was a little difficult on scene.
06:35From what I hear, he's not really finding the police.
06:38But we're going to try.
06:39What's your name, little brother?
06:41All right, man.
06:42My name is Detective Johnson, bro.
06:45The victim's brother stated that he wasn't there when the shooting happened.
06:49He heard the shots and ran over there, and that's where he found his brother.
06:53But he doesn't want to talk.
06:55He's walking away from me.
06:56Obviously, he was distraught.
06:57His brother just got killed.
07:01But I see this one person who's, they keep trying to get my attention.
07:05So, at some point, I walk over and I talk to this person.
07:12Maybe the one that actually did it?
07:14Yeah.
07:14They got a name?
07:15They call him M3, but his name is Ramon.
07:18Okay.
07:19Did they say what it was about?
07:21I think something happened, like, a while, two months ago.
07:24I'm not sure exactly what it was about.
07:27But if it was supposed to, do you fight you or have no fun?
07:30I learned that the suspect may be a former friend of the victim.
07:42They always come over here.
07:44You have an apartment right here that's, like, drinking.
07:46Mm-hmm.
07:47And they just hang.
07:47It's, like, a little hangout spot.
07:49Okay.
07:50All right.
07:50Usually when people are hanging that time of night, that's usually when bad things happen.
07:56So I'm interested to know more information.
07:59Any of the stuff open?
08:05They said they'd come back here and hang in these little abandoned little apartments.
08:10Mm-hmm.
08:20When we walk in this apartment complex, it's obviously abandoned, but there's pillows.
08:25There's blunt wrappers where they were smoking marijuana.
08:28It's a wreck.
08:29Not some place that I want to hang at.
08:32Yeah, it's definitely a teenage crash spot, a spot where they can just come and just kind
08:35of hang out without any supervision.
08:38Nobody come back here.
08:39There's no security back here, so they can just come and hang out.
08:43Kind of do what they want to do.
08:45Yeah.
08:47Not too much in here.
08:49799.
08:49Yeah, I talked to the they said that prior to the shooting, maybe an hour or two before,
08:56they saw M3, but didn't think of anything of it.
08:59But when they left and when they came back after the shooting, they talked to the brother
09:04who mentioned this has something to do with Ramon M3.
09:08Okay.
09:08So that's what we have for right now.
09:10We're going to keep it moving.
09:11And, you know, it's better than nothing.
09:12It's a lot better than nothing.
09:13At least you got a name and a partial description.
09:16Exactly.
09:16I reached out to ATF to get some assistance with a ballistic dog, and we're going to search
09:30that whole area and see if we can find some casings.
09:32Come on, dog.
09:33Come on.
09:34Come on.
09:34I think we said this little area.
09:38Just a walk through right here.
09:39Okay.
09:40Yeah, this whole area right here.
09:41We'll get out of your way.
09:42Hopefully we find, like, a casing or something.
09:48That'd be cool.
10:00No luck?
10:02Nothing.
10:03There's no change of behavior on anything, so...
10:05Okay.
10:06I mean, she was saying if you guys are coming in the morning, I don't mind coming back
10:08if you guys want, or fill me in the morning, whatever you guys need.
10:11All right.
10:12But as of right now, I think we're going to probably wrap it up.
10:15I'm going to talk to the family, see if they're giving us some more information.
10:17But, um, I don't know.
10:19That's kind of where we're at right now, unless y'all think of anything.
10:22I think what we have is what we have for tonight.
10:24Yeah.
10:25Well, I appreciate you as always, brother.
10:27Absolutely.
10:27Thanks for coming out.
10:28Thank you, man.
10:28Yeah, not a problem.
10:29Yeah.
10:29Yeah.
10:30All right.
10:31Yeah.
10:32We searched the whole area, ran the dog back and forth.
10:35It's kind of weird that we don't find any casings on the scene.
10:38I wish this was better, but we tried.
10:42Thank you again, bro.
10:43Yeah, absolutely.
10:44Either we're missing where the shooting occurred, or maybe the gun was a revolver.
10:50With a revolver, the casings don't eject out of the gun, so maybe that's why we don't find
10:54any ballistic evidence.
10:56At this point, we just don't know.
11:08My victim last night, Javon Elo, I hear that he may have some association or something like
11:27that with your case.
11:28Yeah.
11:29Mine's from December with juveniles.
11:31It's all juvenile perpetrators, juvenile victims.
11:33So there's this little crew, as best I could tell, of three kids, two of which were arrested
11:37for that case.
11:38The third one, definitely involved in the beef and the motive, but I couldn't put him on
11:45the scene, and that is Javon Elo.
11:47Okay.
11:48Learning that my victim was possibly involved in one of Fife's cases, it kind of gives me
11:54a different perspective.
11:55Maybe it was something having to do with that.
11:57Maybe it was retaliation.
11:59At this point, we're just trying to figure out what's going on.
12:01Well, my confidential source told me Javon Elo was there to fight Ramon, and they call
12:07him M3, because Ramon has been telling everybody he's a rat, and that's why Javon's out of jail
12:13with an ankle monitor, and why the other dudes are in jail.
12:16When Javon got there to fight, apparently something went another way, and of course he
12:20got shot.
12:21They don't live at the apartment complex, I'm assuming?
12:23Mm-mm.
12:24So my confidential source told me they saw Ramon hanging out there prior to the murder,
12:29and may have been involved.
12:35He may be the one that actually did it?
12:36Yeah.
12:37We call him M3, but his name is Ramon.
12:40So that's where we're at right now.
12:42So we'll see how this goes, I guess.
12:45Good luck.
12:46Thank you, bro.
12:55Right now, we're going to go meet with the victim's family.
12:57We can go to Javon's grandmother's house.
13:01You actually can live there.
13:03When you talk to family members, you're catching them at a time where they lost a loved one.
13:10These people are dealing with probably the most tragic thing that's ever happened to them.
13:15Hello.
13:19Hey.
13:20How are you doing?
13:20How are you doing?
13:21I'm Detective Johnson.
13:22I'm my partner, Detective Deesburg.
13:23How are you doing?
13:24Good.
13:25Come on, I got you.
13:26All right.
13:28First of all, I'm the lead detective.
13:29I'm going to be the main person you're going to talk to about anything that goes on with the case,
13:33Okay?
13:34Um, I kind of want to know what you have heard so far.
13:38The only thing I know, I was here watching the Saints game and my phone rang.
13:44I said, hello.
13:46Mama, you got to come to the apartment.
13:50Bub just got killed.
13:53I was speechless.
13:54I went there and came and he hugged me and said,
13:59I'm sorry, Mama, I'm sorry.
14:03Being a father, I mean, my son is really young,
14:06but I have a daughter that's close to the age of the victim.
14:09And I've also lost friends at a young age like that,
14:11so I understand both sides of this.
14:14I always told them, stay from over there.
14:19Stay you're behind here.
14:21You live here.
14:22You don't live over there.
14:24Mm-hmm.
14:25And Javon had that monitor on his ankle.
14:29Mm-hmm.
14:30I think that doesn't affect our investigation,
14:33whatever history he had.
14:35So just so you guys know, we've been working since then,
14:37and none of that stuff doesn't matter to the end of the day.
14:39What happened shouldn't happen.
14:42There are many programs in New Orleans for kids who may be in trouble
14:45just to keep them on the right path,
14:47and Javon was in one of those programs.
14:50The principal of the school and his teachers came again yesterday.
14:57Wow.
14:58And he was telling us how he was so proud of his grades.
15:04Hey, that's what I'm talking about.
15:07That's the part that doesn't get told enough.
15:09So we're going to get out of your heifer right now.
15:14Y'all got my phone number?
15:15Let me know if y'all get some more information.
15:17I will make sure.
15:19Thank you so much.
15:20It's kind of tough dealing with investigations with juveniles.
15:30You know, my victim has ties to an incident from earlier this year.
15:33But it seemed like Javon was on the right path to be better.
15:38Now we're headed back to the scene.
15:44I have Wayne and the other car falling behind.
15:47We're trying to see if we can get maybe some video prior to the murder.
15:50See if Javon's with somebody or who he was talking to or anything like that.
15:54Because I'm very optimistic and I'm crazy, I believe that we're going to get an amazing shot of the whole incident from a camera we didn't see last night.
16:04Hey, how you doing?
16:10All right, pretty good.
16:12We just wanted to try to see if we could get a little bit of footage.
16:15The only cameras I have is the ones that's on this, right?
16:17Right.
16:17You kind of have a specific time that we're looking at.
16:22This is the front.
16:24Yeah.
16:25The apartment complex has surveillance cameras.
16:28Unfortunately, they only show the front of the apartment complex.
16:31They don't have cameras that actually face the scene where the shooting occurred.
16:34Which was behind an abandoned building.
16:37See where that jeep thing is right there?
16:39There's people over there.
16:41That's going to abandon an apartment.
16:44With the footage that we did collect, you can see that maybe 20, 30 minutes prior to the murder,
16:50there's definitely a lot of movement in front of the abandoned apartment complex that a lot of kids come and hang at.
16:5721, 28 would be the shooting time.
17:00Yeah.
17:01This should be the shooting time frame.
17:04There's some people here.
17:12They're running.
17:13Oh, they're that bull rider.
17:15You can also see people running around a few minutes after the murder.
17:20We can't see exactly who these individuals are.
17:22So, unfortunately, right now, we don't have much.
17:28Pretty good.
17:29Let's go around the back.
17:30This is where the victim was found, right here in the grass.
17:37There was no big blood puddle, no casings, or nothing.
17:43These are all empty.
17:44Yeah, they're all abandoned.
17:45And the only thing back here is nothing as far as camera-wise or less.
17:51What about the hospital?
17:52Oh, I didn't check.
17:53That's what I was just looking at.
17:55You maybe could see something moving around.
17:58Look, they got cameras on the poles, like the ones over there.
18:03Oh, yeah.
18:04Worth a try.
18:05Even if we can catch something, like, in the background, we can see.
18:09Should be able to see some movement.
18:11Where they went or where they came from.
18:11Yeah, some movement or something.
18:13Yeah, let's go check the hospital.
18:21Yo, what up, bro?
18:22Hey, you had a call.
18:25A mom called.
18:26Said my was out there with a little boy that got killed last night.
18:28She wants to talk to the police.
18:30Wants to give a statement.
18:31Oh, .
18:32The unit's over there right now, sitting with mom in the house.
18:36I'll send you the officer who's out there, cell phone number.
18:38You just give him a call, tell him you're on the way over.
18:40All right, so I'll go.
18:40I'm going to head to the door.
18:41All right, bye.
18:42Later.
18:43This is a big break because we don't have much.
18:46We have a name of a suspect, Ramon, but we don't have any witnesses who actually saw the murder.
18:52So I want to see what this person has to say.
18:55But this is big.
18:56How you doing, Detective Johnson?
19:02How you doing?
19:03So, yeah, that went interesting.
19:23When first speaking to this witness, they were a little nervous, but also scared because
19:28they were there and they witnessed the homicide.
19:31They said that they were all hanging outside back there by that apartment.
19:36So that was them on the camera.
19:39It was the deceased victim, M3, and a bunch of other little boys and girls.
19:44But M3 and the victim were arguing.
19:47Okay.
19:47And they said, out there, the only person that had a gun on them was M3.
19:51He had it in his waistband.
19:53The witness informed me that they saw Ramon armed with a handgun.
19:57They wasn't able to describe it, but said it was a small handgun and he was flashing it,
20:02showing it off.
20:03All the boys walked to the back.
20:06And at some point, the brother was back there.
20:08We don't know if he witnessed it or he just happened to be in that vicinity, but he was back
20:11there.
20:11They hear the shots and then they see the victim's brother come from that same way,
20:16talking about they just killed my brother.
20:20But they didn't see where the boy M3 went.
20:23But it places M3 there.
20:25Yeah.
20:25And he has a gun.
20:26Yeah.
20:27The confidential source provided the Instagram for M3, but he took everything off his page.
20:35I got his phone number, too.
20:37So we definitely going to need warrants to get that information.
20:39We have to find out where Ramon is right now, because people saw this.
20:46They're scared.
20:47They could be in danger.
20:49So we need to get him off the street.
21:09Going to the school to see if they know Ramon, aka M3, because we don't have a last name
21:25and a date of birth or any information on him.
21:27So hopefully I'll be able to maybe even get an address or something.
21:32At this point, we don't have much.
21:34We have a nickname of a suspect, but we need something a little more concrete.
21:42New Orleans East is where I grew up at.
21:45You know, before Katrina, I never even went past the Superdome.
21:48Everything for me was downtown and New Orleans East.
21:50My whole little area.
21:53That's why you go to Taekwondo Plus.
21:55I'm karate over there, boy.
21:56Yeah, yeah.
21:57Still got it.
21:58I was a green belt.
21:59I was going up for my next match, and they didn't have any more green belts for me to fight against.
22:04So guess what they did?
22:05Flag belt.
22:06Yeah.
22:06They put me up against it, and guess what happened?
22:08It was a her.
22:09She kicked me in the face.
22:10Oh, I was so mad, bro.
22:11I was afraid to, oh, bro, I took the little belt off.
22:14I slung it.
22:15I was like, nah, quit in front of everybody.
22:18It kind of helps on the job.
22:20You know, people don't see police officer Ray L. Johnson.
22:22They see, you know, the guy that they know that went to school with them, so they feel more comfortable talking.
22:26I just went in there and talked to one of the administrative people, and as soon as I mentioned the name Ramon, she knew exactly who I was talking about.
22:47She said his name is Raymone.
22:49Raymone, .
22:50Javon and Ramon, they're both 15 years old, so it's just sad, you know, dealing with investigations with juveniles.
22:57So I think when he ran out the back, he jumped across that canal, across the canal.
23:01Mm-hmm.
23:02Like, literally, this is the canal.
23:04This is the canal he would have had to, yeah, to hop across that way.
23:07Mm-hmm.
23:07It's definitely possible.
23:08Oh, look at that.
23:09You could jump down there.
23:10Oh, bro.
23:11That ain't nothing.
23:11Oh, bro.
23:12And the description that they gave black male would kind of twist kind of hair.
23:17You could see it right there, just like they described.
23:20So I'm pretty much sure there's going to be him.
23:22Um, I would rather, before we go too far away, I would really like somebody to take a look at it and tell me, you know, that that's the guy that they're talking about.
23:31Even if they didn't see the shooting, just telling me that that's M3.
23:33Mm-hmm.
23:45So we went to the school, asked them if they knew a Raymone.
23:48Did you say M3?
23:49You're like, yep.
23:49Mm-hmm.
23:52That is literally across the canal from the apartment.
23:56In the school sense?
23:57No, so they actually don't fall break.
23:59They got out Friday.
24:00Yeah.
24:01Is there any way to get across the canal?
24:03You jump.
24:04Yeah.
24:04It's not a wide canal.
24:05If you look at Eunice, you see how it's like a little grass there?
24:09Yeah.
24:09So you just...
24:10Got pipes, too.
24:11Yeah.
24:11I used to stay on the Y up the street, and that's what we used to do.
24:13Either cross the pipe, or just, if there's a little part right there, a little shadow part, you just jump right over it.
24:20So I'm almost willing to bet that's what he did.
24:23Yeah, if you can get video of him moving around right afterwards, that'd be a good thing.
24:27Yeah.
24:28Yep.
24:29At this point, I have the alleged suspect's name.
24:32I have a witness.
24:33See if we can maybe find some surveillance video.
24:36We moving.
24:36The case is starting to move in the right direction.
24:49The lieutenant ran his name for me.
24:52He's actually wanted right now.
24:54Give it to the VCAT.
24:55Mm-hmm.
24:56Let them go out, maybe do some surveillance for him.
24:58Surveillance for him, yeah.
24:59I like it.
24:59So, you know?
25:02Yes.
25:02Make this a little easier.
25:04At this point, we don't have enough of an arrest warrant,
25:06so I'm going to keep working to get that.
25:07But it won't be hard to find him.
25:09He did have an active warrant for previous investigation.
25:16Hello.
25:17Hey, what's up, bro?
25:18This is Rael.
25:19Hey, what's up, bro?
25:20Hey, what's up?
25:20You busy?
25:21Nah, what you got?
25:22So I'm working this case over here on Bundy with Javon.
25:28This the kid that got killed the other day?
25:29Yeah.
25:30You got it.
25:31So we found out that the guy that he supposedly got into with,
25:36who we believe is the suspect, is his name's Ramon.
25:40I'm calling to see if you guys could maybe do a little work on him,
25:43see if we could catch him.
25:44He's worn it right now.
25:45That's the good news.
25:47Okay.
25:47Yeah, so...
25:48That's all.
25:48Yeah, that give us definitely some ammo to really go at him, so...
25:52And that's going to be a suspect of yours?
25:54Yeah, he's definitely the suspect.
25:56Oh, I got a phone number, too.
25:57I got a phone number for him.
25:58Okay.
25:59Yeah.
25:59Send that to him.
26:00All right, sound good.
26:01Thank you, bro.
26:01That's true.
26:02All right.
26:02So that made that ten times easier.
26:07See if they can maybe catch him, you know,
26:09arrest him for the charges that he already had pending.
26:13In this investigation, we don't have any shell casings.
26:15We don't have any surveillance video.
26:17Two big pieces that usually help solve homicides.
26:21But we have a good lead.
26:24We're going to find you.
26:24We're going to locate you.
26:25Yesterday, me and Wayne, we went back out to try to get video from the hospital.
26:41The camera that was in the back of that face department complex, it was out.
26:45Look, they got cameras on the poles.
26:47Oh, yeah.
26:48Even if we can catch something, like...
26:49Like an image of something.
26:50In the background.
26:51Yeah.
26:52Couldn't get anything off that.
26:53Of course.
26:54But then, the M3 school gives me a picture of him.
26:58His name is Ramon.
26:59Gives me his address.
27:01And his residence has a ring camera.
27:04Ooh.
27:05So I did a warrant for the ring yesterday.
27:08Did you do a nondisclosure order?
27:10No.
27:12Because ring, they'll give it to you.
27:14But ring will tell them that you're trying to get it.
27:17Great.
27:18Hopefully she don't check her email.
27:19But the real thing that I need right now is to talk to the victim's brother.
27:24Right.
27:27We have the name Ramon as a suspect.
27:30We have an address.
27:31At this point, we want to go straight to the house, but we know we can't do that yet.
27:35We still want to speak to everybody else that was out there, especially if the victim's brother.
27:39We believe he has information about what happened.
27:47Hello.
27:48Hey.
27:48How are you doing?
27:49How you doing?
27:50My name's Detective Johnson.
27:51This is my part of Detective Deesburg.
27:53While inside the house, Javon's brother, he was a little standoffish.
28:02He didn't really want to give up information about it.
28:05He said that he wasn't there when the homicide happened.
28:09You know what sucks?
28:10When we were talking to him, I could tell he wants to tell me something, but he just wouldn't
28:15give me that information, and not like I could really force him.
28:18Right.
28:20Yo, what up, bro?
28:21So, his phone right now has been pinging in Dallas all day, but during the murder,
28:27he was definitely in the area, like, phones pinging exactly there.
28:31His phone is pinging exactly at the scene when it happened?
28:34Yeah.
28:34He must have been using his phone, like, calling somebody right after.
28:37Mm-hmm.
28:38Go send your documents on the calls he made.
28:41Yeah, yeah.
28:41Whatever y'all get, if you could, but yeah, just forward me that for sure.
28:45We learned from VK that the cell phone of Ramon gets pinging in Dallas, but at this
28:50time, the kid's on break from school.
28:52So, I don't know if he ran to the location fleeing because of the homicide, or is he just
28:56out there because they don't break?
28:58All right, bro.
29:00All right.
29:00The phone records definitely have him in the apartment complex.
29:06At the time of the murder?
29:08Yeah.
29:09I mean, I think you get real close to a lock on that.
29:12Yeah, 100%.
29:13Real close.
29:14Yeah.
29:15Unfortunately, in this investigation, we don't have any shell cases.
29:18We don't have any surveillance video.
29:20Those are two big pieces that usually help solve homicides.
29:24But without that, there are witnesses to ID the shooter.
29:27This case is going to come down to people telling us what happened.
29:32Right.
29:52How was your weekend?
29:54Busy.
29:55Want to hear about mine?
29:55Sounds like I want to hear about yours.
29:59Sitting at home, get a call, say, hey, man, we got a witness for your murder.
30:04I was contacted by an officer in another district in a whole different part of town.
30:10This person walked past the officer and kind of, like, whispered something, like, I'm going
30:13to tell you about a murder.
30:15Wow, okay.
30:17When I got over there, I'm like, did you see anybody with a gun?
30:19They said, oh, while we're sitting at the apartment complex, M3 has a gun, and he takes
30:25the gun and he sits it on the ground.
30:27And they said, oh, you know what?
30:29I took a picture of it.
30:31Oh, you got to be kidding me.
30:35They took two pictures of him.
30:36One of them, he's just, like, standing up with a gun, like, minutes before the murder.
30:39They said that M3 and my victim, they're going back and forth arguing.
30:46They walk around the back of the apartment complex.
30:49They said they hear shots.
30:51They run over there, sees M3 running away with a gun, jumping the fence.
30:56And the brother runs up, like, seconds later.
31:00Lining up with everything else that I have is more than enough to get a murder.
31:03Oh, absolutely.
31:04Yeah, more than enough.
31:05More than one person saying they saw him with a gun.
31:08He's the only one running away after this year.
31:11Got the picture of him with the gun.
31:12Yeah, it's pretty damning.
31:14Like, I could probably read the serial number off the gun.
31:17I do believe in karma.
31:19Sometimes you may not have none of an investigation, but eventually things will come to the light.
31:24Typed the arrest warrant, got signed, forwarded over the vows, so they're going to get together
31:28with the marshals and, um...
31:30And they're already up on him.
31:31Awesome, bro.
31:32I still got more to do, because I, like, won't make it even better, but that's pretty
31:36damning what I got.
31:37Wayne, check this out.
31:58I just got Ramon's phone records back from analytics.
32:03Oh.
32:04Um, and from 3 o'clock to the time of the murder, he's at the apartment complex on
32:10scene.
32:11So he goes straight from school to the apartment complex?
32:14Yep.
32:15Okay.
32:15Yep.
32:16And he puts him right there within that area, that time frame.
32:20All right.
32:20The phone is still active, and I guess we'll work with S.O.D. about locating.
32:24Okay.
32:25And his house actually had a ring camera on it.
32:27That on the camera?
32:28Come see.
32:29Oh.
32:31You see it right here?
32:32This is him leaving in that, leaving that morning.
32:34The morning of the murder, pretty much when he's going to school.
32:38It looks like nighttime, but that's because it was the way I was in the morning.
32:41You see it right here?
32:43The little Cheetos sweatshirt?
32:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
32:46He's wearing the same sweatshirt that was on the picture that was supposedly taken minutes
32:51before the murder, holding the gun.
32:54This is before school, this is after school.
32:55You got it.
32:56With the gun in his hand.
32:57With the gun in his hand.
32:59So, that pretty much locks it in that this picture is valid.
33:02Absolutely.
33:03You know?
33:04So, with that being said, I mean...
33:06And this is the morning before, this is the morning of the murder?
33:09Correct.
33:09How old are you, 15?
33:10He's 15.
33:1115 years old.
33:12The victim was young like that, too.
33:15It's difficult when you're dealing with juveniles.
33:18Sometimes, these crimes happen for the silliest of things.
33:21They could be arguing, and it leads to a shooting.
33:25You're young, so you make rash decisions.
33:27How did all this beef get started?
33:29Like, where did this come from?
33:31So, according to the family, they used to be friends.
33:36So, I went back, I got the Instagram records.
33:39And when you go through the records, you could see, like, how it transitioned.
33:42Initially, they were talking about hanging out.
33:45Yeah, we about to meet up and all that kind of stuff.
33:47And then, like, a week before the murder, he's on there saying stuff like,
33:52I ain't finna keep telling you the same thing, little boy.
33:55I would f*** over you.
33:56My people spared you.
33:58Spare you and your brother.
34:00That's M3 talking to the victim.
34:03There's even a message right here.
34:04It said, knock you dead and you're f***ing on, bro.
34:07Oh, wow.
34:08Bet you won't come in front of my house.
34:09Like, they're going back and forth.
34:12And this kind of gives me more of a motive.
34:14Like, something happened in between that while they're beefing now.
34:18Nowadays, younger people, they use Instagram as a way to communicate.
34:22They put all of their business on there, all of their information.
34:26People talk freely on there because maybe they think law enforcement can't get it.
34:30Or maybe they just don't care.
34:31So, it's a tool that we use to help in homicide investigations.
34:34And in this case, it definitely helped out.
34:38So, with all those things lining up, especially the surveillance video,
34:41the picture of him with the gun, the cell phone, putting him there,
34:44now we actually have a motive to go with this whole thing.
34:47Mm-hmm.
34:47What's your name?
35:16Ramon is transported to the Sleidel office.
35:23He's there with his mom.
35:24I don't know if she was hiding him or maybe she didn't know he was wanted yet.
35:28But at this point, I think she was scared a little bit.
35:31Okay, well, we're investigating a homicide that happened at apartments.
35:36You remember the one that happened that day?
35:38You don't?
35:40I heard about it, but I don't know about it.
35:42Okay, you know the young man I was killed that day?
35:44I don't know about him.
35:45Okay, how do you know him?
35:46I'm dead and I'm part of it, Smokey.
35:48Okay.
35:49What's his name?
35:50I don't know.
35:51You don't know his name?
35:52Y'all had any arguments via, like, Instagram or anything like that?
35:56Oh, no.
35:57See, that's another one.
35:58See, why you think I asked you then?
35:59Because I already know that y'all had an argument.
36:02Like, this is just a guy.
36:03Yeah, that was small.
36:04That was small.
36:05I don't know what you're talking about.
36:06That was small.
36:06Okay, what was that about?
36:08Oh, I don't know.
36:09I don't know.
36:11Okay.
36:11So, after school, where did you go on that day?
36:16Home.
36:17And what did you do after that?
36:18Then I cool, chill.
36:21Went to the parking school because she don't know how to smoke.
36:24So, I just be bleeping.
36:25I was sleeping right along.
36:26All right.
36:26So, when you went to the apartment, who was there at that time?
36:29Just a couple of those on the other stairs.
36:32And I was sitting on the other stairs just cool and chill.
36:35Okay.
36:35And then what happened?
36:37I left him at home.
36:39I got a curfew, so I'd just be going home.
36:42Okay.
36:42So, you went straight home right now.
36:44Did you have a gun already?
36:45No.
36:46Did you have any guns?
36:47No.
36:47So, what if I had a photograph of you with a gun in your hand?
36:50How would you explain that?
36:52It wasn't my gun.
36:53How did it get in your hand?
36:55How did that happen?
36:56Just taking pictures.
36:58Okay.
36:59So, where's that gun?
37:02I don't know.
37:02It wasn't my gun.
37:03Okay.
37:04So, whose gun was that?
37:05I don't know all of them do with me.
37:06I just, you know, a couple of them do.
37:08Who put the gun in your hand?
37:10Nobody.
37:10I picked it up.
37:11I just want to be clear.
37:12You're saying there was no fight?
37:13No fight.
37:14No argument?
37:15I really want to give you a second to talk with your mom.
37:18Because this is the statement you're going to leave me with.
37:20I can easily prove that everything you told me is not the truth.
37:23Because I already know that stuff.
37:24This was an opportunity for you to explain.
37:33Bro, real good.
37:34I'm going to tell you straight up.
37:35It wasn't that, bro.
37:36Straight up.
37:37By the time that popped up, I was gone.
37:39Going home.
37:40Going home.
37:41Nothing I'm going to do is get inside.
37:42Ain't got a curfew.
37:43I was going home.
37:44Straight up.
37:44You have cameras at y'all?
37:47Yeah.
37:48A Ring Dovelle camera?
37:49Mm-hmm.
37:51So you want to try it again?
37:54See if you ask me, I'm listening.
37:56So you said that you were at home when all of this happened?
37:59I said, by the time that popped up, I was already going home.
38:03You were walking where?
38:05Man, meet my people to get my weed.
38:08Did you get a shot?
38:09Yeah, I heard a shot.
38:10OK.
38:11But I wasn't close.
38:12OK.
38:13What was that supposed to mean?
38:16So that means if you were walking home or that's like right there.
38:20So I'm trying to understand.
38:21It's right across the canal.
38:23I was going to meet somebody on the corner and I walked home.
38:28Sure.
38:29I'm going to explain your eyes.
38:30I'm trying to explain what it is, man.
38:31I'm not going to tell you what I'm talking about.
38:34If this is where you want to leave it, man,
38:36like I'm trying to give you the other time.
38:38I don't want to give you the other time.
38:39I don't want to give you the other time.
38:40I don't want to give you the other time.
38:41I don't want to give you the other time.
38:42Well, you didn't have a choice because I have enough evidence,
38:43because I have enough evidence, obviously, to arrest you.
38:45I already have more than enough evidence.
38:48Looking at Instagram, I learned that the victim
38:51and the alleged suspect were going back and forth.
38:53They were cursing each other out, threats about shooting
38:57and killing each other.
38:59It was just crazy.
39:00They were going back and forth the whole time.
39:02Who phone you used to get on Instagram?
39:03Huh?
39:04Who phone you used to get on Instagram?
39:05Who phone you used to get on Instagram?
39:07I don't got no Instagram.
39:08My Instagram, I hate.
39:09That's great.
39:10All right.
39:11So is there anything else you want to tell me?
39:13I'm good.
39:14All right.
39:15I'm good.
39:16They're going to transport them over,
39:18and I'll come back and come talk to you.
39:20I'm good.
39:21All right.
39:35All right.
39:36All right.
39:37All right.
39:38All right.
39:39All right.
39:40All right.
39:56He was very loving and caring.
39:59And he was in the club scouts and the boy scouts.
40:04And he learned a lot of things.
40:06And when he got in that little trouble, he told me, he said,
40:11my mom, when I get out of this, you
40:14ain't got to worry about me going to jail no more.
40:18And he was doing excellent.
40:21That's amazing.
40:22That's amazing.
40:22And everywhere he went, somebody said something to him.
40:29How good he was, his teacher called the best.
40:34And the brightest.
40:35The best and the brightest.
40:39Javon was so excited about the Pathways program
40:42that he was spreading the message to other people.
40:46He is responsible for other people coming to Pathways.
40:50He is what we want out of each participant.
40:53When I hear you're respecting people outside in the community,
40:56at school, you're flourishing.
40:58That is what we need.
40:59Yeah.
41:01I still have his report card.
41:03His death still sits next to mine.
41:07That child, he just stole my heart.
41:09He is one that I didn't ever want to forget.
41:14I would tell him, I said, listen, I have two sons.
41:18Three.
41:18That's him.
41:19Three.
41:20I said, well, OK, I have three sons.
41:24The love this child brought to my life,
41:26because I'm a parent who lost a child to violence.
41:28So children bring me so much joy.
41:32I'm so used to him coming in here, hey, old lady.
41:38How you doing today?
41:41But it took a while for me to be able to really talk about him.
41:47Yeah.
41:47Because I would get fooled.
41:49And sometimes now, I still get fooled.
41:52But I know he's in a better place.
41:55Definitely.
41:56And it was senseless.
41:58Yeah.
41:59It would happen.
42:01It has to stop.
42:03Definitely.
42:04Honestly, this could have been resolved in a way
42:07where it didn't have to get to this point.
42:08Because if the young man who committed this,
42:11if he would have been in your program,
42:13maybe he would have different ways, a different outlet
42:15to deal with this weather in the way that he did.
42:17Right.
42:17So of course, we're going to continue to talk,
42:19because this isn't going to be our last time talking.
42:20Oh, I know.
42:21But I appreciate everybody coming and talking to me,
42:24finding out that background about him.
42:26And like I said, my phone number is always on.
42:28I might not answer all the time,
42:29because unfortunately, the city keeps me busy.
42:31But you shoot me a text or whatever,
42:33I'll call you back as soon as I can.
42:35But moving forward, of course, we're not done.
42:38We still have to go through these proceedings.
42:40But this is important to have the supporting stuff.
42:43Because when those days come, too,
42:45I want to see the same people inside of this courtroom,
42:48you know, to show the support for his family.
42:50I'm sure he had family and people that cared about him.
42:52And this wasn't just another black male killed
42:54in the streets of New Orleans.
42:56When we get down to the court thing,
42:57I need the same people there to show that support.
43:00We'll be there.
43:00You know?
43:01We'll be there.
43:10We'll be there.
43:12Okay.
43:13Alright.
43:15Bye.
