00:0055, Charlotte. We go to Ashley.
00:01All right, Brandon, these two teams with very similar styles of play,
00:04but what are you guys doing just to create a little bit of an advantage here?
00:07I think just playing to our strengths.
00:09You know, that transition pace that we've been playing with all year.
00:12So just having that mindset of playing with our pace,
00:15I think we'll be fine throughout this game.
00:1612 threes already in this first half.
00:18Are you just taking what the defense is giving you,
00:20or is it something that maybe you're going to need to adjust this next half
00:23if they pick up defensively?
00:24Yeah, just taking what the defense is giving to us,
00:27you know, making the right plays, shooting the ball with confidence.
00:29So just, you know, having that mindset of just being confident
00:31while we are in this tough crowd, I think that will, you know, get us over the hump.
00:35All right, and thank you so much. Good luck the next half.
00:36Thank you.
00:37Maria.
00:38Appreciate it, Ashley.
00:39Coming up, American Express at the half.
00:41They're taking what the defense is giving them and giving the defense fits.
00:44We're going to run back that LaMelo ball highlight
00:46because T-Mac loved it and break down the Charlotte's offense.
00:48You did.
00:49I really did.
00:53So the Charlotte Hornets, they're on the road in a half game back
00:56from securing a playoff spot
00:57and right now playing with confidence is LaMelo Ball.
01:00What's in your veins?
01:01Apparently ice.
01:02Let's take a look at the American Express at the half.
01:05Game you can trust.
01:06And, of course, it's the top scorers for both teams.
01:09LaMelo Ball, he's got 23 points for the fifth time this season
01:12with at least 20 points in a half.
01:14He's three for three on threes.
01:16And then JB, 18 points, four for nine
01:19on the two-point field goals there in that first half.
01:21Welcome back inside the studio.
01:22Maria Taylor alongside Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Carmelo Anthony.
01:27And we're just going to start with the play
01:28that had everyone really just enjoying hoops.
01:31LaMelo Ball kicking his feet up, essentially, against this defense.
01:34Yeah, so, like, we've never seen this style of basketball in the NBA.
01:40And LaMelo, man, LaMelo just acted out there like he's on the playground.
01:43He's toying with these guys.
01:45I mean, jumping off, you know, kicking two feet up,
01:49one kicking his butt.
01:51Heel dad.
01:52It's just so unorthodox, but crazy effective.
01:55Yeah, it's working and it's showing the confidence for sure
01:58that the Charlotte Hornets have.
01:59They've made 13 threes.
02:01Ten of those were assisted V.C.,
02:03so they're certainly moving the ball well on offense.
02:04Absolutely, they play well together.
02:06We talk about LaMelo, his ability to get guys going,
02:09but they also get him going.
02:11So they share the ball, and the energy finds the open guy.
02:15You see here, get the ball ahead, catch and shoot.
02:18They understand.
02:19They want to get shots up.
02:20They pass, pass.
02:22Once you get the open shot, you let it fly.
02:24There again, compromising the defense.
02:27Unselfish basketball.
02:28Nobody's forcing the ball.
02:30They're just making the right play, getting shots up,
02:32and they're making them.
02:33So when you have guys or teams that play that style of basketball,
02:38we get to see LaMelo play free and do the things that he does
02:41because when it's his time, it's his time.
02:44But in essence, they just play basketball together
02:47and they share the ball.
02:48I'm glad America's getting a chance to see Charlotte on primetime
02:51because this is what we've been raving about here,
02:54watching these guys.
02:55We've been raving about LaMelo playing just with that type of freedom
02:58and that type of leadership, and he's displaying that tonight.
03:01He's the story of that first half.
03:04Like, he's very fun to watch, man.
03:06This is fun to watch.
03:08Yeah, it's good to see it on a Tuesday night,
03:10LaMelo ball with those 23 points in the first half.
03:12If you're the Celtics and you're looking to slow them down
03:15a little bit in the second,
03:16is there something that can change defensively, T-Mac, for them?
03:18Yeah, I think they put a little bit more pressure on LaMelo,
03:22trying to get the ball out of his hands.
03:23But even when he gets the ball out of his hands,
03:25he has guys that are making the right play.
03:27So I think what I've seen in that first half,
03:31when he's off the court,
03:32because when you talk about when he's on the court,
03:34historic offense, when he's off the court, they do struggle.
03:37So the Celtics take advantage of that when he's really off the court.
03:40Because they play canipple at the point a lot of times
03:42when he's out the game.
03:44And we saw Sion playing the point, had a few turnovers,
03:46so that's when you have to take advantage of this team.
03:48The thing is, if you double-team LaMelo ball,
03:51he knows to get off the ball.
03:53He makes the right play,
03:54and that typically leads to open three-point shot decisions.
03:58They play the same way.
03:59They do.
04:00That's Boston.
04:01They play the same way.
04:02By the way, we didn't mention this in the pregame show,
04:04but it's because of Charles Lee
04:05and the fact that he was on that Boston staff
04:07when they won a championship,
04:09so he knows what is required.
04:10And the teams are very similar.
04:11Reggie Miller even said that during our pregame show,
04:13and that's probably part of the reason.
04:15All right, a six-point lead is what the Hornets have,
04:19but JB looking to chip away at it in the second half.
04:21He's got 18 throughout the first half of play.
04:29All right, after the Hornets and the Celtics,
04:31you can catch KD in his first appearance in Phoenix
04:33since being traded to the Houston Rockets.
04:36Tonight, they're taking on the Suns and Devin Booker.
04:39That game coming your way as we go coast-to-coast on a Tuesday.
04:42We wanted to get you an update on the Heat,
04:44taking on Toronto.
04:45Remember, the Raptors, a half game ahead of the Hornets
04:48right now for that final play-in spot.
04:50Bam Adebayo against B.I.
04:52And early, it was Brandon Ingram, 15 points in the first half.
04:55Bop, bop.
04:56Cross over.
04:57Stay down, champ.
04:58And one.
05:00B.I., man, I'm very...
05:01I keep saying this, man.
05:03B.I. is gonna...
05:04I think he's gonna step up in the postseason.
05:05Yeah, buddy, he's gearing up.
05:08Oh, that's fast.
05:09Quick.
05:11Big lead right now for Toronto.
05:13These teams play each other again in Toronto.
05:15It's a big time back-to-back.
05:17All right, let's take a look at the early leaders
05:19for the king of the court on DraftKings Sportsbook.
05:21Who's got the most points, rebounds, and assists
05:23across the association?
05:24Yeah, Pat Williams.
05:25How about that?
05:26Shut them Chicago Bulls fans up, bro.
05:29Shut them up, bro.
05:30He playing the point.
05:30Here we go.
05:32Rob Dillon.
05:32He's the Wizards.
05:36So many assists being here now.
05:37You get a career high.
05:39You get a career high.
05:40You get a dunk.
05:41You get a dunk.
05:42You get a dunk.
05:43You get the second half after this.
05:48It is the Celtics and the Hornets
05:51in a potential playoff preview.
05:54LaMelo Ball playing at a ridiculous level right now.
05:57Shooter's paradise tonight.
06:00Standing offense there by J.B.
06:03LaMelo with some LaMagic.
06:05And you talk about some flamethrowers
06:07being on the floor here.
06:12Flamethrowers are welcome.
06:13And these two did their part for their team.
06:1523 for LaMelo Ball matches his most points
06:19in the first half this season.
06:2018 for Jalen Brown.
06:22Look at the numbers on the breakdown.
06:24He's three for three inside of three.
06:26But he was five for 11 outside of three.
06:29And Charlotte has as many made threes
06:32as they do attempted twos.
06:3413 made threes.
06:3613 attempted twos.
06:39Welcome to the modern day NBA, people.
06:42No question.
06:43And these two teams have been at the forefront
06:45in terms of it's either going to be threes,
06:50free throws, or layups.
06:51And we have seen it to the full effect.
06:54Knipple relatively quiet first half.
06:57Eight points, four assists.
06:59Three of eight from the floor.
07:01Bridges chipped in 9-10 for Brandon Miller.
07:04Jalen Brown, 18 points, five rebounds.
07:07Tatum finished the first half
07:09with eight points and four assists.
07:11Charlotte basketball with the six-point cushion
07:13as we start the third.
07:15Ball on the drive.
07:16And a finish.
07:18He's got 25.
07:19Oh, UCLA action to start this third quarter.
07:23Okay.
07:24After my lady Bruins.
07:26I was waiting for it.
07:27You know, I just got to say congratulations,
07:29Coach Corey Close.
07:30The best.
07:31Lauren Betts.
07:32Kiki Rice.
07:34Great story with six seniors staying together
07:37and eventually getting the job done
07:39this year in Arizona.
07:41How's wrong on the drive?
07:43Kicks.
07:43Brown, late clock.
07:45And Bridges knocked it off the face of Kato.
07:50Yeah, ricocheted right off of Kato.
07:51That's a long one.
07:52And Ball thought he was going to get hit.
07:55He went into the potty of Kato.
07:57No whistle, Kato.
07:58Here comes Boston the other way.
08:05Jason Tatum finds Nylon on the three.
08:10Tatum now in double figures with 11.
08:14Good pass out of the short wall.
08:17Knippo can't hit.
08:20So Tatum with 11.
08:22His first three of the night.
08:24Boston's 8 for 22 from the outside.
08:26Knocked away by Miller.
08:27And out of bounds off Sharpe.
08:28So it's ball.
08:36Clearly released before the contact on the back end there from Kato.
08:46Brown on the outside.
08:48Off a series of screens.
08:50Now Ball has to step up.
08:52Brown wins the matchup.
08:53And gets right to work.
08:55Off the heel.
08:56Knipple swallows it up.
08:59Ball head up.
09:01He's feeling it right now.
09:03He's looking to score every time he's got the ball in his hands.
09:06He's got 25, so why not?
09:08He's got 27, so why not?
09:14He's like one on five here.
09:17And dominating the matchups.
09:38All five rebounds have been on the offensive end, and that won an air ball from Ball.
09:51So you just got to hold on here.
09:55He's got away with this there.
09:57Five ball.
09:59Tatum attack.
10:01Tatum finish.
10:06Two strong.
10:07Two strong.
10:07Right over the top of the double.
10:09One possession game.
10:11Early action third quarter.
10:13Miller no.
10:14But a foul.
10:15And Kata gets tangled up with Diabate.
10:22Just feels like Moussa Diabate is always in the middle of the action.
10:26And there's a foul up top there.
10:28And Miller flying shooting two.
10:31By Brown.
10:32Right on the wrist there of Miller.
10:35So Miller up to ten points.
10:39First free throws of the night.
10:40Only the eighth and ninth attempts for Charlotte as a team.

10:56Check in with Ashley.
10:57As I talked to Brandon before the game, I asked, when did things switch for you guys as a team?
11:02When did that mentality change that you could win any game, even if you were down?
11:06And he said it was a very specific one.
11:08In Oklahoma City, playing OKC, they won 124-91.
11:12He said, just being able to beat a championship-level team like that on the road, it gave us all
11:16the confidence in the world.
11:18As they nail another three right there.
11:19He said, now we know we can get out of the hole.
11:22We can play.
11:23If we weren't playing well the first half, we can turn it on the second.
11:25And he said, truly, that game changed our mindset.
11:28As LaMelo Ball takes it in for two more.
11:31He's up to 29 points.
11:32But Ashley's absolutely correct.
11:34And she asked Charles Lee about it as well.
11:36He said, last year really helped them because they were in such difficult spots.
11:39So many injuries that they dealt with.
11:41So many guys in and out of the lineups.
11:42Having to really adjust on the fly.
11:45Not winning the majority of their games.
11:47Joe Mazzullo likes to say it all the time.
11:49As Derek White sticks a triple.
11:51But Mazzullo likes to say, you have to learn how not to lose before you can actually learn how to
11:55win.
11:56And it feels like Charlotte has really learned how not to lose games.
11:59Which has propelled them in the learning how to win.
12:02And LaMelo Ball.
12:03He is in a float state.
12:0632.
12:08It also helps to have a baller like Ball lead your team.
12:13And when he's healthy, Brandon Miller finally healthy this year.
12:17You draft, knippled, got some building pieces.
12:20And on top of that, this young team holding one another accountable.
12:25Nine points already in the third for Ball.
12:27Tatum looking to answer.
12:28And perfect defense from Diabate.
12:36Look at this.
12:37He gets Hauser on his backside.
12:40Gets all the way to the cup.
12:42But where he has been great tonight.
12:45Six of 14 from distance.
12:48The one-legged three here.
12:51LaMelo Ball absolutely showing out here in the guard.
12:5635 points.
12:57In a win on Sunday at Minnesota.
13:00He's got his ninth 30-point game of the season with 32 here tonight.
13:05Knippel had it expunged.
13:07But out of bounds.
13:08Kata couldn't keep it in play.
13:13Was it a possession after the block?
13:15That's what the official Scott Foster is talking about.
13:18Here's the block shot.
13:19Did he have possession before he went out of bounds?
13:22That would be a reset of the shot clock.
13:24It didn't look like full possession.
13:26You can see Knippel clearly pointing down.
13:28So that's nine on the shot clock.
13:31Kata may have jammed a finger in the process.
13:34He's trying to work through on that hand.
13:40We'll monitor that.
13:41And Charlotte works with Knott.
13:45The Abate on the outside.
13:47Ball off a screen.
13:49Ball and attack mode.
13:50Ball!
13:51Trying to get creative and he got fouled by Kata.
13:55See, when you knock down all these threes, guys are flying at you at that three-point line.
14:01He is so good at that 6-7 frame.
14:04Gets right by Kata.
14:05There's the contact.
14:06And just gets the ball up on the rim.
14:10What an evening for LaMelo Ball here, people.
14:14Penning to the free throw line with a chance to go in the double figures in the third by himself.
14:19He's got 10 now in the third quarter.
14:2333 on the night.
14:24That's how he started the ball game.
14:26We've got some LaMelo Ball action in the crowd.
14:30He wondered how did he get, how did she, or he, get that through the Celtics security?
14:35Right.
14:36That's an excellent question.
14:37I mean, a couple of Hornets jerseys and signs.
14:44But I'll tell you what, you cannot question the influence that LaMelo Ball has on a young generation.
14:50He is as influential and as popular as pretty much anybody in the NBA.
14:57But he is love mellow.
14:59He is love mellow.
15:00He's not mellow, people.
15:02There's only one mellow.
15:03He's in our studio right now.
15:04That's right.
15:05Jalen Brown rattles it home.
15:073-4-3!
15:14Ball with 34.
15:16Seven minutes left in the third.
15:19Screen from James.
15:21He's got the last seven, but he turns it over.
15:24White pouts.
15:25Brown spits.
15:26Brown scores!
15:29That play all made because of the hustle of Jordan Moss guarding LaMelo Ball out top.
15:36It's an old school duel now.
15:38Ball at 34.
15:39Brown at 23.
15:41Extra.
15:42Open.
15:42Bledges!
15:43In and out.
15:45Rebound on Tatum.
15:50Tatum cross.
15:51And his trip.
15:52Didn't call.
15:53Brown missed it short.
15:55And it's out of bounds.
15:57Staying here.
15:58Final someplace.
16:03Jason Tatum wanted a call.
16:05Jalen Brown didn't need it.
16:06Staying under control.
16:08Keeping his team within a point.
16:14And this is how NBA players are taking their training to the different level.
16:18That's Zara Torres, the 12-time Olympic medalist.
16:22She's now currently the Boston College head coach for the men's and women's swim and dive team.
16:27Look, Jalen Brown came to her and said, look, I want to become more efficient with my swim stroke.
16:32They've worked on his rotation.
16:34You see when he was working on his backstroke, stretching out the shoulders, working a little single arm work.
16:41He's like, hey, I heard MJ used to do some water work as well.
16:46A lot of people don't know that.
16:47And how about learning from one of the best to ever do it in the pool?
16:52And this Zara Torres.
16:55Fantastic, fantastic work there in the offseason.
16:57And he was coming off knee surgery as well.
17:01Helped to strengthen that knee.
17:03That's champion's molding champion.
17:05Yes.
17:05That's what you see.
17:06Jalen Brown's always looking to diversify.
17:09Has so many unique interests.
17:10Has trained as a boxer as well through his career, really through his life with his grandpa.
17:16And he's trying to just continue to find different ways to find himself the best version.
17:21That helps, too, finding open teammates.
17:23And Jordan Rawls providing a pop off the bench.
17:26That's offense.
17:27He goes down here.
17:28That leaves ball.
17:30Swing it.
17:31James can't hit the three.
17:33And the rebound fumbled out of bounds by Brown.
17:35Now remember, the Hornets are playing tonight without Kobe White.
17:39As Walsh showing some bench scoring for Boston.
17:46But the bench scoring has been the one issue tonight for this Charlotte team.
17:51Two points from James, six from Grant Williams, three from Josh Green.
17:55But without Kobe White, who has come in at the trade deadline and the trade from Chicago,
18:00and has averaged nearly 16 points per game as a bench piece for this team.
18:03And he's been tough sledding.
18:05James off the mark.
18:07Rebound.
18:08Outlet.
18:08Taken away by James.
18:10Brown just didn't have enough air under it.
18:17Miller off the screen.
18:19Miller on the paint for two.
18:21Forget how long Brandon Miller is as well.
18:246'9", 6'10".
18:25There's Kobe White, who has played great since coming over from that trade.
18:30From the Bulls.
18:31Off the bench now.
18:34About 19 ballgames.
18:35Average in about 16 points.
18:38Brown drives.
18:39Scoop it inside.
18:39Can't have lost it.
18:41That's that good activity inside from Diabate.
18:45Ball lost.
18:46Oh, Miller slam.
18:49LaMillo put it on a rope for him.
18:57Ball with 34 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
19:03And Miller is up to 16 points himself.
19:08Step out of bounds.
19:09That's twice Pritchard has stepped on that sideline.
19:13Look at this.
19:13This is from half court.
19:15How about the finish from Miller?
19:20Well, he knew.
19:22LaMillo knew.
19:23Just get it to the air.
19:24Get it to the square.
19:25Let my 6'10 guy do the rest.
19:27You know a guy's feeling it when, before he even crossed his half court, a fan screams,
19:33Top it, LaMillo.
19:35And you actually think he might.
19:37From the low guard.
19:38Instead, it's Miller with the length.
19:42Stretched Armstrong with the right.
19:456'9", 6'10.
19:46Being able to handle like that.
19:49The backcourt.
19:51There's another turnover.
19:52It's LaMillo on the steal.
19:54Miller's got the last six for the Hornets.
19:56And LaMillo's fouled hard.
19:57Oh, Kata trailing him the entire way.
20:00LaMillo appears to be okay as he sidestepped the stanchion.
20:03Well, that's number three on Namiya's Kata.
20:07Sure, this easily could have been a flagrant foul on Kata.
20:10We may take a look at this.
20:16Guy going that fast.
20:18I shot the ball too, Scott.
20:19The key didn't look like the full two-armed extension.
20:24The good news for LaMillo is he's going to get free throws.
20:28So he's got 34 and Brandon Miller's got 18.
20:31We talked about it before the game.
20:33The starting backcourt, 52 points.
20:36The rest of the team with 28.
20:38But you mentioned the health of these two guys
20:40has been probably the biggest difference this season
20:43along with the additions of the star rookies that they've brought in.
20:48We talked about LaMillo, just different types of ways of shooting the basketball.
20:53It's so unconventional.
20:54Look at this.
20:54His right leg back, just having a floater.
20:57It's unorthodox.
20:58Off the long leg, a little step back.
21:02Not a lot of weight on that front foot.
21:05But again, he's used to, you know, this is when you were in the backyard
21:09shooting against your brothers, right?
21:11When you were the youngest of the three ball brothers.
21:14Pops had them out there playing one-on-one.
21:18You understand that.
21:19Oh, yeah, I do.
21:20You understood how to get your shot off.
21:21You had to get your shot off over taller and more quicker and agile guys.
21:25And you had to, you were unorthodox.
21:28They'll all win for LaMillo.
21:31Miller and Ball have all 21 points in this third quarter for Charlotte.
21:35They've got 54 for the ball game.
21:37Too strong from Brown.
21:39Kalk Brenner vacuums that rebound in.
21:42Chance to extend it even further.
21:44Back up to seven for Charlotte.
21:47Miller's feeling it.
21:48Doesn't get the roll.
21:49Pritchard has the board.
21:52Peyton Pritchard's strike came off the bench.
21:54Jordan Walsh sneak ahead for the slam.
22:01All energy from Walsh off the bench with Dime.
22:04You know why Joe Mazzoula is finding minutes down the stretch here?
22:07How valuable Walsh is going to be come playoff time.
22:11He's been Walsh instead of Ugo Gonzalez of late.
22:16Ball probes through.
22:17Here we go.
22:18Keita on an island.
22:20Ball.
22:20Step back.
22:21No way.
22:22Comes up short.
22:24Kalk Brenner.
22:24The biggest guy on the floor for the flush.
22:29If LaMillo would have made this,
22:32I easily would have took it off my headset and just walked in the back.
22:36I would have been done.
22:38He would have been dreaming about all those types of shots.
22:41He would have taken the step back.
22:43Fling it from 40 feet out.
22:45He's got 15-3 to check.
22:49Great.
22:50We still have a quarter to go.
22:51Look at this.
22:52Stripped by Williams.
22:52Scooped up by James.
22:54Race to the rim.
22:55And James missed the button.
22:58Jalen Brown with a hustle.
23:00And he forced the rookie to miss it.
23:02It's easy what happened.
23:03Shireman.
23:04Five-point swing.
23:06Timeout Charlotte.
23:09You can't give up and miss a bunny at one end.
23:13Because usually you get burned at the other.
23:16Five-point swing here.
23:18You got to flush this, Rook.
23:20Put it down.
23:21He takes it for granted.
23:23It doesn't go in.
23:24And the Celtics.
23:26They make you pay.
23:28Shireman with the three.
23:35Catch the next generation of men's and women's basketball.
23:39It's the USA vs. the world at the Nike Hoop Summit.
23:43Live Saturday on Peacock.
23:46It is always a pleasure over in Portland.
23:50Elym Brown played in the game in 2015.
23:53Jason Tatum played in the game in 2016.
23:57We've seen so many others who have been a massive part of...
24:01Is our co-worker Jamal Buffard's son?
24:04J.J.?
24:05He's a little young for that.
24:06He was only a freshman there.
24:08I know he's...
24:09He's similar training with the Olympic team.
24:11Oh, he tried there as Grant Williams finds the bottom from the outside.
24:19I would imagine that J.J. will be getting that invite in a couple short years.
24:25Dave Pritchard played in that game as well from that area originally.
24:30Trying to put on for the Northwest and he does.
24:32Dave Pritchard!
24:39That's his second three of the day.
24:42Six points off the bench for Pritchard.
24:44The nipple back on the floor.
24:46Drive and kick.
24:46Williams, another three.
24:49And Walsh, another board.
24:521.20 to play in this third quarter.
24:55Brown, outside.
24:57Shireman.
24:59Long rebound right back to Shireman.
25:01Pritchard loads it up.
25:03And knocks it down!
25:05Now you're starting to get that pop off the bench.
25:081-3 by Shireman.
25:102 by Pritchard.
25:11And here come the Boston Celtics.
25:16Charlotte had built the lead back.
25:19Ball's got 36 points.
25:22Pascada to the rim.
25:23Missed it!
25:25Rebound.
25:26Out of bounds.
25:26No, it's saved by Knipple.
25:28And then a foul on the loose ball.
25:30It's going to be LaMelo Ball, who's holding his right ankle.
25:34Woo!
25:37The LaMelo Ball missed.
25:39Probably his easiest shot tonight.
25:42Wide open layup as he walks to the bench here.
25:45And then commits the foul right here.
25:47Holding the jersey there of Shireman.

33:02Count all those blue jerseys.
33:061, 2, 3, 4, and still Jalen Brown gets it to go.
33:11Кон Knipple knocking down his third three.
33:16That 268 made threes on the season for the Rook.
33:21Shattered the rookie record set by Keegan Murray a couple years back.
33:25Miller back on the floor with five to shoot.
33:27His pull on top.
33:29Into the hands of Tatum.
33:32Miller has kind of gone cold.
33:33Remember it was him and Lomelo carrying the offense in that third quarter.
33:38Tatum building his way to the bucket for two more.
33:42And Tatum!
33:44Tatum now up to 18.
33:49Miller off a screen from Diabate.
33:5312 to shoot for Williams.
33:54Trying to get it to Knipple.
33:57Working on Pritchard.
33:597 to shoot.
34:00Inside Williams.
34:01Extra.
34:02And it's taken away by Pritchard.
34:04White in transition.
34:06Spray it out for Tatum.
34:09He'll drive.
34:10He'll kick.
34:12Extra swing.
34:14White on the attack.
34:1510 to shoot.
34:16Pritchard's three.
34:18He's good!
34:22Time out, Charlotte.
34:26Time out, Charlotte.
34:30101-94.
34:32They've come alive in Boston.
34:33Time out to get it back to the studio.
34:37I appreciate it, Noah.
34:38Welcome to our in-game update presented by Kia.
34:40Maria Taylor here with the Hall of Famers.
34:43And right now we're watching the Celtics on a 21-7 run.
34:46What has been the catalyst for it?
34:48Well, the Celtics are up the pressure a little bit on the defensive end.
34:51And then the threes will start falling in the second half for these guys.
34:56So, just looking forward to how, you know, Charlotte's going to bounce back.
35:00Because right now they struggle with LaMelo being off the ball, off the court.
35:04We want to see how they bounce back coming out of timeout.
35:06Ball movement.
35:06They've moved the ball, sharing the ball.
35:08And they're starting to see threes.
35:09They, meaning the Boston Celtics, now playing playoff basketball.
35:13Giving the Hornets a little taste of what it's like.
35:16I like Boston's aggressiveness on the offensive glass.
35:19I think Caden and those guys are doing great on the offensive glass.
35:21Which is allowing, you know, Jalen Brown to go out there and put the show on.
35:26He put on in the third quarter.
35:27Yeah, the Charlotte Hornets 3 for 14 from 3 so far in the second half.
35:31One thing they did very, very well in the first was shoot the ball well.
35:33Absolutely.
35:34Knocked down 13 of them.
35:35Assisted by 10 of them.
35:37And we'll see what they have for us in the second half.
35:39All right, this has been the Kia Endgame Update.
35:42Proud to be the official automotive partner of the NBA.
35:44Kia, movement that inspires.
35:47Go Tuesday is brought to you by Kia, the official automotive partner.
35:51Of the NBA.
35:53Charles Lee, an assistant.
35:54A couple seasons ago with the Boston Celtics.
35:57And roots to that 2024 NBA championship.
36:01And it took so much from Joe Mazzulla.
36:03These two teams mirroring each other in so many ways.
36:06Including the success that they had this season.
36:10Look at these win totals.
36:11Odds courtesy of DraftKings.
36:1327.5 was the over-under set opening night for the Hornets.
36:17They've already got 43.
36:18And the Celtics, as we talked about, so many thought gap year.
36:21They've got 53 wins and counting under Joe Mazzulla.
36:25These two coaches easily two of the top candidates for coach of the year.
36:30That's why you give both of them a lot of credit for not listening to a lot of the naysayers
36:36in the Celtics.
36:38It being a gap year because of the Tatum injury.
36:40And the youth being a hindrance for the Charlotte team.
36:45James Richard said that Joe Mazzulla is the reason, as Brown's going to be called for the foul, trailing Brandon
36:52Miller.
36:53He's the reason that these guys believed that all of the talk on the outside was just exactly that.
37:00Talk.
37:01He said that we should all endorse him for coach of the year.
37:04The expectations for this team.
37:05He never believed in those.
37:06He pushed us.
37:07He's a big, if not the biggest reason, that we're in the position we are right now.
37:10Mazzulla brushed off in classic Mazzulla fashion, the talks of coach of the year,
37:15saying that in his eyes it's a stupid award because the players are the ones that do the work.
37:21Romella ball back on the floor, but he can't hit on that jumper.
37:26Got 36 points tonight, but his team is starting to drift back down by seven.
37:33Tatum looking for more.
37:35And Diabate, the last line of defense.
37:53All those hustle opportunities that Charlotte was winning early in this game.
37:58Boston has pounced down the stretch.
38:02Tatum step back three.
38:04He drills a big one.
38:08That is vintage Tatum right there.
38:1221 for JT.
38:1431 for JP.
38:1610-point Celtic advantage.
38:18Butchovic's the takeaway.
38:26Wow.
38:28Attacks.
38:29Brown finishes.
38:3410-0 Boston run.
38:36Charles Lee wants time.
38:40And again, the Tatum and Brown duo once again delivering when needed.
38:47Step back three for Tatum.
38:50And then Jalen Brown, anything you can do, brother, let me get involved.
39:00We'll open our eyes on that play-in standing in the Eastern Conference.
39:04The race for six with Toronto now at 44 and 35.
39:08Philly, Charlotte, and Orlando all behind them.
39:11And you look at what New York has.
39:12They play Toronto.
39:13They play the Charlotte team.
39:15They also play the Boston Celtics in a couple of days.
39:19So they are going to have a lot to say about the Eastern Conference standings when it's all said and
39:23done.
39:24The Celtics' magic number was two coming into the night.
39:27You look at one through four in the East.
39:30They're two and a half games up on New York for that second spot.
39:33So any combination of two with a win or a loss by New York, and they get number two as
39:39we go to Ashley.
39:40Guys, I've been listening in on these timeouts, especially for Charlotte when they've been falling behind.
39:44And that last one, first was Pat Connaughton for the Hornets, the veteran guy,
39:47making sure the team stays energized, doesn't hang their heads,
39:50said there's still plenty of time left in this one.
39:52And then when Coach Lee sat down, he immediately got into them saying,
39:55we are being way too soft.
39:56We're giving them exactly what they want, and we are better than that.
40:00Now that one doesn't fall for LaMelo Ball.
40:02Coming out of that timeout and then out of control, Jalen Brown's going to turn it over.
40:07But to Ashley's point, this goes back to what she talked about earlier.
40:10This is a Charlotte team that has learned how to dig themselves out of difficult situations
40:15and falling down by double digits.
40:21Miller approaching five minutes to play.
40:23Lob it for Bridges.
40:24Knocked down on Pritchard.
40:26Double comes from Vucevic.
40:28But Bridges backs at home.
40:30Bridges has been solid all game long.
40:33You talked about the double-double, 13 points, 10 rebounds.
40:38Four of those at the offensive end.
40:41It's a solid evening for Bridges.
40:44Jalen Brown with 33 points, 9 rebounds.
40:47Working on ball.
40:49Hill attack.
40:50Brown stops.
40:51He feeds.
40:52It's Pritchard.
40:54In now.
40:55Long rebound into the hands of White.
40:58Good minutes from Vucevic in this fourth quarter.
41:01And a foul is going to be called on LaMelo Ball.
41:04That will be his third and the team's third.
41:06Charlotte Fouls number one, LaMelo Ball.
41:09That's his third, third team model.
41:16This is the second time LaMelo has been caught just holding on to Brown for dear life.
41:24And I know it's shocking, but he did not think it was a foul.
41:30425 to play.
41:32Foster has extended this to double digits after trailing by 11 in the fourth half.
41:37Brown.
41:38Terry to call that a yes.
41:40You do not see that very often called.
41:45Scott Moula was like, wait a minute.
41:48And hesitate with that, and that extra second.
41:52That happens all the time.
41:56I mean, just look at LaMelo right now.
41:59That's the same thing almost.
42:00And that's what Jalen Brown's trying to say.
42:02He's doing exactly what I did.
42:05Diabate on the outside.
42:08Miller, 7 to shoot.
42:10The defense ramped up for Boston.
42:12Miller can't hit the 3.
42:13Offensive rebound into the hands.
42:16Nearly a Bridges, but he threw it right to Tatum.
42:19And it's going the other way.
42:26Just couldn't keep it inbounds on the offensive rebound.
42:30So they're going to call Bridges out.
42:31Knippel will come back in with under 4 to play.
42:35It was all Charlotte in the first matchup here.
42:38Back on March 4th, 118 to 89.
42:42And Boston won in Charlotte, 114-99, March 29th.
42:47This, the rubber match, and a potential playoff preview.
42:50Brought to Mitch.
42:51Way off on the 3.
42:52Pritchard has it.
42:535 to shoot.
42:54Brown's going to have to make it happen.
42:56Brown, step back, blocked by Williams.
42:59And a shot clock violation.
43:06And this high-powered Charlotte offense that scored 61 in the first half
43:10has just 35 so far in the second half, 9 in this fourth quarter.
43:16Did Williams get Brown down low?
43:18It looks like he got ball first.
43:21Let's not forget how good defensively the Celtics are.
43:26Talk about the numbers.
43:28Dean can stretch it down.
43:31Finally, Knippel sees one go through the hoop.
43:36Celtics' number one scoring defense in the NBA.
43:39107 per game.
43:42Celtics do it.
43:43We lose it or lose it.
43:44Timeout.
43:45Three timeouts for Manning.
43:46No challenges left from Boston.
43:48One more Manning for Charlotte.
43:49Into the corner.
43:50Tatum will drive.
43:51And Tatum will finish.
43:56Limping a little bit back to the defensive end.
43:59But 23 points now for Jason Tatum.
44:01Spin from Bridges.
44:03Stopped by Vucevic.
44:05Giabate outside.
44:07Williams, three.
44:08In and out.
44:10Those threes that were falling early have not been falling late.
44:1516 to 48 now for downtown.
44:18We're shooting the ball so great through threes.
44:21Boston has flipped that strip now.
44:2316 to 40 for three.
44:25It's Brown.
44:27It's another bucket.
44:29Jalen Brown playing like an MVP candidate.
44:3635.
44:37Nine rebounds.
44:38Three assists.
44:39A seal and a block.
44:43207 to play.
44:45Charlotte's running out of time.
44:46Spin from Bridges.
44:48And he pushed it in and out.
44:53Tatum secures rebound five.
44:55LaMelo ball is scoreless in the fourth quarter after 36 through three.
45:01Brown driving kick.
45:03Vucevic.
45:06Vucevic.
45:07One of ten.
45:10The nipple doesn't get the roll.
45:12Tip in no.
45:14Vucevic lost it out of bounds.
45:18LaMelo ball is finally going to check back into this game after taking that shot at the end of the
45:23third.
45:29Vucevic chatting with Joe Mazzulla.
45:31Kata gets a nice ovation.
45:3312 points, five rebounds, three assists.
45:35As Carl Brenner is going to check in to Shadam.
45:38And Diabate will sit.
45:39Miller will hop off the bench as well for Charlotte.
45:42But time is ticking away for a Hornets team that looked like they were poised to get a prove-it
45:50type of win at TD Garden.
45:55Ball hook it.
45:57Miller rip through.
45:58Gets into the paint.
45:59And he plugs it home.
46:0320 for Brandon Miller.
46:0656 combined for the starting backcourt.
46:08But the first points in the front quarter for either of them for the Hornets.
46:121.20 to play.
46:13Charlotte team is fortunate to make the playoffs.
46:16They are going to be a tough out.
46:19Fun to watch as the hold there by LaMelo.
46:23That's going to be number four on ball and the fourth team foul as well.
46:27And it looks like he might have just gotten teed up as well.
46:32Take a look at the upcoming national TV schedule tomorrow on ESPN.
46:35Hawks and Cavs at 7.
46:36Trailblazers and Spurs at 9.30.
46:38Then Thursday on Prime Video.
46:40Celtics and Knicks followed by Lakers and Warriors.
46:42For more on these games, go to NBA.com or visit the NBA app.
46:46So Ball with the personal foul.
46:49And then Miles Bridges picks up the technical foul.
46:52That will send Jalen Brown to the free-throw line for one.
46:59Jalen Brown has played this entire second half to this point with 1.15 remaining.
47:04He's got 35 points.
47:11There's the regular foul right there on LaMelo.
47:17And then here comes Miles Bridges having words with the official Sean Corbin.
47:22That's where he picks up the technical foul.
47:25Talk about a veteran officiating crew with our lead two official.
47:30Scott Foster in his 32nd season, 263 playoff games.
47:34Sean Corbin in year number 31, 100 playoff games.
47:38They have officiated a combined 363 playoff games.
47:42Pat O'Connell's first season as a full-time player.
47:45What do you think he's thinking?
47:46He's thinking, and I have so much to learn.
47:49Derek White might have just put the icing on the cake.
47:54Double figures now for White.
48:00Scoreless fourth for LaMelo.
48:02And he's fouled by Pritchard on the outside.
48:05Boston did have one to give.
48:1223-13 advantage in favor of Boston in this fourth quarter.
48:18And they ended the third quarter on a 10-0 run.
48:2354.2.
48:24It all started on that missed layup by James.
48:29Oh, nice pass and finish.
48:31The nipple to Kompbrenner.
48:34But those little things always seem to come back to you.
48:37They do.
48:38Turned into a five-point swing play.
48:41And it was downhill after that for Charlotte.
48:48Boston will dribble it out.
48:50Take the shot clock violation.
48:56Joe Mazzola has never lost more than 25 games in a season as a head coach.
49:02And he will not get to 26 here tonight.
49:05The highest winning percentage in NBA history at over 72% of his games.
