00:00hey in this series i break down what's happening in tech
00:04in this week ubuntu gets edge verification
00:08the second topic is cloud leaks their source code
00:12and the last one is ubuntu again ubuntu is raising their
00:16memory requirements let's take a look well let's start with the first topic
00:23for those who don't know california passed a law
00:26a new law called digital age assurance act it will start on the new year
00:32january 1st 2027 the idea is simple the operating system
00:39must know your age
00:44we can see the bill from here and the law mandates that
00:51operating system providers including windows mac os
00:56linux and steamos must collect the user's age
01:00or date of birth during the device setup process
01:03and transmit a encrypted age bracket signals to developers
01:08via a real-time api and here we can see the full text of the bill
01:18and it's not just software applications or online services
01:25also operating system provider as you can see here
01:35are responsible
01:40and the idea is simple the operating system must know your age
01:44when you set up your device it will ask for your birth date or age
01:50then apps can ask the system how old is this user or
01:58which age group this user belongs to
02:04and
02:07of course some
02:10it's also affected the linux operating stem even though it's the open source
02:18and it's the open source
02:19actually if any enterprise software or company
02:25coded to the new york stock exchange
02:29this company or software should obey the laws in the united states
02:35or in california in this case
02:37this bill passed from california but it's also applied it's also
02:47bridal and colorado
02:52approved similar bills
02:55operating system providers already started to prepare
03:01and
03:02uh... on the linux side
03:05they are thinking to put this
03:07age
03:10birth date or age identifier into the systemd
03:15it's
03:16it's so strange systemd is already
03:20most of the people already complain about systemd because it's plotted
03:25and now
03:26a word date will be added into json field
03:36and it's
03:38already
03:39a github pr
03:42for the systemd prepared and merged
03:51and if we check the
03:55pr
03:56it says stores the user
03:59birth date for age verification
04:01as required by the recent laws in california
04:04colorado brazil etc
04:07full date rather than just birth year
04:18yeah for the devices set up before
04:20january 1st the os provider must provide the interface by july 1st of july
04:27in 2027
04:31and in systemd itself
04:34will contain the
04:35birth date full date
04:38and it will provide to the applications through some apis
04:46the age group
04:48under 13 13 15 16 17 or 18 plus
04:53i don't know how it will work because
04:57in different countries or in different states
05:02these laws are different
05:04these age groups
05:07for example you can buy a beer in germany if you are 16 but
05:13i don't think it's possible in the states
05:18also
05:21yes
05:23systemd doesn't expose your age to the web and
05:28it it only lays to the groundwork groundwork for apps to request an age category
05:37but we have a big but here currently
05:42they are preparing it for the applications applications will ask to systemd and systemd will
05:49provide age group but probably in the future
05:55browsers will ask too and with that way
06:02a web page can ask the browsers firefox chrome or
06:08anything let's say brave
06:12how long this user all how old is this user or
06:21which age group this user belong to belongs to and
06:29if browser adopt this website schools check your age yeah from the
06:38uh surveillance uh standpoint it's
06:43definitely too bad i don't think they will just use this feature let's say feature
06:54or just uh protecting kids but they will get your age and they will track your activities probably
07:04the governments and secret agencies
07:11also i'm 100 percent sure the companies will sell this information as a marketing
07:25other than that as i said enterprise distros already accepted this change and
07:33uh ubuntu redhead fedora debian probably
07:39and suze
07:42will obey this law and they already merged uh
07:47not distributed yet as far as i know but
07:50they will comply with this change and
07:56some other
07:57other community based linux like arc linux again to alpine
08:06will not comply and as far as i know arc linux
08:13already commented this change as a retarded suggestion
08:20yeah that's all uh from the linux and uh h
08:30assurance uh site we will see what happen in the next days which distros will comply which distros
08:40uh want interesting times
08:49now let's talk about to the cold cloud code leak
08:53entropic confirmed that the source code of their ai coding
08:59assistant was accidentally exposed
09:01uh not hacked uh just a human error during packaging
09:09they pushed on a npm release that included a source map file
09:14that basically opened the door over half a million lines of code internal typescript code
09:21actually probably they forget to remove that map map file or they forgot to put it in a
09:32let's say git ignore
09:36and due to that map file developers reverse engineered the
09:43map file and found all
09:46uh 500 million javascript codes uh 500 million javascript codes
09:53also the comments uh near them
10:00and not just uh the source code also uh with reverse engineering
10:08uh developers uh and the people uh found that uh there are some unknown or
10:22not disclosed uh features in the cloud uh code application the first of it a body a tamagotchi
10:32uh inside your terminal and uh
10:40with this gacha system
10:43i hope i pronounced correctly
10:48there are some stats debugging patience chaos wisdom snark
10:54i haven't tried this uh things yet
10:58uh it's uh it's very new and another feature is chaos always on
11:07uh a persistent uh always running cloud assistant don't wait for your type it's proactive
11:15and they also declared here
11:23and ultra plan
11:2730 minutes 30 minutes remote planning sessions
11:33the dream system
11:36auto dream uh background it's making background memory consolidation
11:41like sub-agent
11:47and another undercover mode
11:52multi-agent orchestration uh system
11:56all of them
12:01discovered test mode uh they call this penguin
12:06and normally penguins are so slow but
12:15also tool registry
12:22have hidden beta headers
12:25lots of
12:28feature flex
12:31also now
12:34known
12:37i don't know
12:38if entropic
12:43want us to know that feature
12:49but already
12:51it's all it's already on the github right now and people are
12:56writing or forking their own
13:00cloud
13:03tools
13:04or
13:06applications
13:08as open source
13:10with some modifications and
13:13they are they are trying to remove limitations
13:18other thing
13:21found that
13:22it's not on this page but
13:24when you swear
13:28in your prompts
13:30it's logging you
13:31that's crazy
13:33but
13:35this is also another thing
13:38yeah this is the things from the cloud side
13:44and
13:48let's
13:51switch to the our last
13:54topic ubuntu
13:58and now quickly about ubuntu 26.4
14:03and this one is less about a big feature
14:08and more about the shift ubuntu is expected to rise
14:12the recommended
14:13memory ram to around six gigabyte
14:16for desktops
14:18and
14:20people some websites
14:22are already complaining about it's more than windows 11
14:28and it's they say more about microsoft than canonical but
14:32i think it's okay
14:34six gigabyte is not much ram
14:37today
14:39yeah even macbooks are macbooks now coming with eight gigs of ram
14:49here
14:52you can see
14:54details
15:00yeah running windows 11
15:02on
15:034 gigs of ram
15:05technically possible but no one wants to
15:08use that
15:10computer
15:11and this is the
15:13release notes of
15:16upcoming ubuntu
15:18and
15:19here they stated
15:21clearly
15:27a minimum of six gigs ram and 25 of free hard drive space
15:34and
15:35uh
15:36we will also see new word
15:38gnome versions
15:40better valence support
15:42better
15:43sandboxing
15:45kubernetes
15:45and tucker support in this new
15:49ubuntu
15:50i will cover these details in a separate video
15:54that's it for
15:56last week's news
15:58three stories
15:59one takeaway everything is changing
16:02don't forget to subscribe i'm planning to post a new uh summary every monday or tuesday
16:08see you in the next one
16:10bye
