Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve (Querétaro)
Located in the north of the state of Querétaro, the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve represents 32.02% of the total territory of the state.

This Protected Natural Area presents a great physiographic complexity with diverse heights ranging from 300 to 3,100 meters above sea level.

It is one of the best-preserved forested areas in the center of the country and contains one of the northernmost fragments of sub-deciduous tropical forest on the continent.

There are 1,724 reported species of flora and 124 species of fungi. As for fauna, Sierra Gorda has 23 reported species of amphibians, 72 of reptiles, 363 of birds, and 131 of mammals.

In 1987, the Sierra Gorda Queretana achieved the category of Biosphere Reserve, to preserve and rehabilitate the ecosystems, induce and guide an orderly use of the natural components that allow its permanence for future generations and achieve economic and social development for the inhabitants of the area.
