00:02The White House proposed cutting more than 9,400 jobs and over $1.5 billion from the
00:07Transportation Security Administration as part of its budget request for the next fiscal year,
00:12according to Reuters. The proposal would reduce the TSA's $7.8 billion budget by about 20%
00:17after the agency lost more than 1,600 workers during recent government funding disruptions.
00:21President Trump proposed requiring smaller airports to use private security,
00:25which would cut more than 4,500 jobs. TSA plans to cut another 4,800 positions
00:29through efficiency measures, including ending staffing at exit lanes. The union opposes
00:33privatization and said it would reduce airline safety. Trump criticized the TSA, fired its head,
00:38David Pekoski, on his first day in office in 2025, and has not nominated a replacement.
00:43Congress will hold hearings later this month as lawmakers work to reach a budget deal
