00:00Kairi Jamaluddin was never really gone.
00:04For Tajuddin Rasti, his return to UMNO always felt inevitable.
00:08The only question was how it would happen.
00:11For a while, it looked like a standoff.
00:15Kairi versus party president Ahmad Syed Hamidi.
00:19Then came Rumah Bangsa, an amnesty of sorts, a reset.
00:24And suddenly, the path back was open, but Kairi doesn't come back as the same man.
00:29Because Tajuddin remembers who he used to be.
00:33The Jabs at then-opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, calling Nga Korming Taliban, comparing bursae
00:40protesters to monkeys and refusing to apologize.
00:44So when Kairi was sacked in 2023, Tajuddin admits he didn't mind.
00:50Then came the surprise.
00:52Instead of lashing out, Kairi reinvented himself.
00:56Shedding what Tajuddin saw as that old nationalist thug image that often defines UMNO youth leaders.
01:03Less combative, more measured, more statesman-like.
01:08Through Kluas Kejap, co-hosted with Shireel Hamdan, he started doing something rare in Malaysian politics.
01:15Actually talking across party lines.
01:19Sitting down with figures like Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Lok Sufuk, Abang Johari Openg, and Ahmad Sam Sri Moktar.
01:27Not shouting, but talking.
01:30And people noticed.
01:32Now Kairi has something UMNO desperately needs.
01:39So the question isn't whether he's changed.
01:43It's whether he can change UMNO.
01:46Because this is still a party struggling with its instincts, caught between moderation and the pool of racial and religious
01:53rhetoric.
01:54Tajuddin believes change is possible.
01:56But slowly.
01:58Because you don't fix a party or a country overnight.
02:03Still, Kairi's return could shift something.
02:07Pull UMNO toward more mature politics.
02:09Dial down the noise.
02:11Bring back substance.
02:13Act as a kind of kill switch to the brand of politics embodied by figures like Dr. Ahmad Saleh.
02:19Maybe even push it closer to the kind of Malaysia Tunku Abdul-Rahman once imagined.
02:26But the risk cuts both ways.
02:29Will Kairi change UMNO?
02:31Or will UMNO change him back?
02:33For the full argument, read Tajuddin Rasti's letter.
02:36Who will change first?
02:38New Kairi or UMNO on FMT.
