U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated the Artemis astronauts on their historic mission circling the Moon, calling them “modern-day pioneers” who have made America “incredibly proud.” During a live conversation, Trump praised their courage and leadership in space exploration, highlighting the mission as a major milestone more than 50 years after the last lunar flyby.

The president also engaged the crew with questions about their experience, including what it felt like to lose communication with Earth while passing the Moon’s far side. Astronauts described the moment as both intense and inspiring, balancing prayer with scientific observation.

With international collaboration, including a Canadian astronaut on board, the mission symbolizes global unity in space exploration. Trump reaffirmed America’s ambition to lead humanity’s journey into the stars and invited the astronauts to the White House upon their return.

00:00Administrator Isaacman, we've got you loud and clear, sir. How are us?
00:04I've got you loud and clear. Artemis II crew, we have a very special guest who wanted to be the
00:09first person to greet you after your return from the far side of the moon.
00:13Reed, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy, it's my honor to introduce the President of the United States of America, President Donald
00:21J. Trump. Over to you, sir.
00:24Well, thank you very much, Jared, and you are doing a fantastic job, and hello, very special hello to Artemis
00:31II.
00:32Today you've made history and made all America really proud, incredibly proud.
00:37We have a lot of things to be proud of lately, but there's nothing like what you're doing circling around
00:43the moon for the first time in more than a half a century
00:45and breaking the all-time record for the farthest distance from planet Earth.
00:50Humans have really never seen anything quite like what you're doing in a manned spacecraft.
00:57It's really special.
00:58I want to personally salute and congratulate Commander Reed Weissman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen.
01:09And I also want to thank the entire amazing team at NASA, headed by Jared, who's a very special guy,
01:17by the way.
01:18And you all made this day possible, and you've really inspired the entire world, really.
01:24Everybody's watching.
01:25I find it incredible.
01:27I just watch you go to the back of the moon, and people haven't been there in a long time,
01:32we can say.
01:32But it's going to be more and more prevalent because we're going to be doing a lot of traveling.
01:37And then you're going to ultimately do the whole big trip to Mars, and that's going to be very exciting.
01:42So you look at we had no astronaut has been to the moon since the days of Apollo program.
01:49The Apollo program was also very special, but that was 50 years ago.
01:54And at long last, America is back, and America is back in many ways stronger than ever before with the
02:00hottest country anywhere in the world.
02:02The Artemis crew flew in the most powerful rocket NASA has ever made, ever launched, traveled over a quarter of
02:09a million miles,
02:10broke the distance record set by the legendary Apollo 13.
02:14And America is a frontier nation, and the four brave astronauts of Artemis II are a modern day.
02:22You really are modern day pioneers, all of you, and one of them happens to be a neighbor.
02:27You know who that is, right?
02:28You have a special person over there, a neighbor, and we like our neighbor.
02:34Your mission paves the way for America's return to the lunar surface very soon.
02:40We're going all out.
02:41We're doing everything we can, and it's headed up by Jared.
02:44We'll plant our flag once again, and this time we won't just leave footprints.
02:49We'll establish a permanent presence on the moon, and we'll push on to Mars.
02:54That'll be very exciting.
02:56I'm waiting for that so much.
02:57I'd love to be here, but maybe we won't quite make it in terms of timing, but we will be
03:03up in the moon, and that's going to happen soon.
03:06So America will be second to none in space and everything else that we're doing,
03:11and we will continue to lead the whole thing into the stars, this incredible journey into the stars.
03:18So I just wanted an honor to speak to you, and I wanted to congratulate each and every one of
03:23you,
03:24and tell me, what is the most unforgettable part of this really historic day?
03:30The whole world is watching and listening.
03:32Please tell me.
03:41President, this call is certainly special to all of us, and we really have a lot of faith in our
03:45administrator, Jared Isaacman, who is with you.
03:47We appreciate his leadership in NASA and in the international community.
03:51We are doing great things, and we are proud to be a part of it.
03:54I have to tell you, as we came around the near side of the moon, seeing all the sights that
04:00we've seen from Earth for all of our lives,
04:02but we're seeing them from a different perspective, and then we started to get a glimpse of the moon,
04:06and we saw sights, oriental sights that no human has ever seen before, not even in Apollo, and that was
04:12amazing for us.
04:13And then the surprise of the day, we just came out of an eclipse where the sun, moon, and the
04:19entire dark moon about that big right out the window that we were watching.
04:25We could see the corona of the sun, and then we could see the planet train line up, and Mars,
04:30and all of us commented how excited we are to watch this nation and this planet become a two-planet
04:36species.
04:40That is fantastic.
04:41You know, I had a decision to make in my first term, and the decision is, what are we going
04:46to do at NASA?
04:47Are we going to have it be revived, or are we going to close it down?
04:52And I had very little hesitation, and it's really great to have somebody like Jared involved, because he really makes
04:58it much easier for me.
05:00But it was not even a question in my own mind.
05:03And we just, we've spent what we had to do, and then, of course, we have Space Force, and Space
05:09Force is very much related to what you're doing.
05:12And that was my baby.
05:13That was a very important one, and it's turning out, it'll turn out to be truly one of the most
05:19important, I believe, decisions I've ever made.
05:21So we're very proud of Space Force, and we're very proud of all of you.
05:25Does anybody else have anything to say?
05:27A lot of people listening.
05:37Mr. President, to be here with you speaking about our incredible day today, I think one of the biggest highlights
05:44was coming back from the far side of the moon and having the first glimpses of planet Earth again after
05:50being out of communication for about 45 minutes.
05:53It really just reminds you what a special place we have and how important it is for our nation to
05:58lead and not follow in exploring deep space.
06:05I'd like to ask, what was your feeling when you had no communication, zero communication, all of a sudden it
06:13was cut off by, obviously, your very special location?
06:17What was your feeling when you had no communication, a little bit different, perhaps?
06:28Yes, Mr. President, it was quite a long time.
06:31I said a little prayer, but then I had to keep rolling.
06:34I was actually recording scientific observations of the far side of the moon.
06:38You know, that is actually the time when we were the farther and the closest to the moon, and so
06:43we were really able to make some of our most detailed observations of the far side of the moon up
06:48close, and so we were busy up here working really hard, and I must say, it was actually quite nice.
06:55Did you see a difference, a big difference, between the far side of the moon and the near side of
07:00the moon?
07:01Was there a difference in feel or a difference in look?
07:04What did you see?
07:13Well, Mr. President, we certainly did, and our sun really set us up well to understand what they thought we
07:19might see.
07:20And the gravitational pull of the earth has had a profound effect on the near side of the moon, changing
07:27all those dark mares, those dark patches of the moon you see from earth.
07:31It's very different on the far side.
07:33While you see some small patches of those mari in deep craters, it's very much absent on that side, so
07:38that's really neat.
07:39And while I have the microphone, sir, I just want to thank you on behalf of Canada.
07:44The space leadership you spoke of from America truly is extraordinary.
07:49I've said this many times before, a nation that leads like that and creates and sets big goals for humanity
07:56that brings other countries along with it is truly incredible.
08:00And I know that's a very intentional, not a necessary decision, but an intentional decision to lead by example and
08:07to allow other countries, like Canada, to share our gifts and help you achieve these mutually beneficial goals,
08:14like establishing a presence on the moon and eventually going to Mars.
08:17And Canadians are so proud to be a part of this program.
08:22Well, I have to say I spoke to a very special person, Wayne Gretzky, who I think you know, the
08:28great one.
08:29And I spoke to your prime minister and many other friends I have encountered, and they are so proud of
08:34you.
08:35And you have a lot of courage.
08:37I'm not sure if they'd want to do that.
08:39I'm not even sure if the great one would want to do that, to be honest with you.
08:42But you have a lot of courage doing what you're doing, a lot of bravery and a lot of a
08:46lot of genius.
08:48But they're very, very proud of you.
09:53Administrator Isaacman, just get a quick comm check, make sure you guys are still on the
09:56line and we didn't have a handover.
09:58I am.
09:59Yes, I am.
10:05And integrity, and back over to you, Mr. President.
10:09Yeah, I think we might have gotten cut off.
10:10It is a long distance, it's a long ways, the reception's been great.
10:15There's a little bit of about a nine second delay, but no, I just had a statement for,
10:22I don't know what you heard, but I was just saying they're very proud of your brilliant
10:27person from Canada on the ship.
10:30And Wayne Gretzky is a great friend of mine and he's very proud of him.
10:33And the prime minister I spoke to, they're very, very honored that you have a courageous
10:39person from Canada.
10:40You have a lot of courageous people from Canada.
10:42So it was very nice.
10:43I'm not sure if you heard me say that, but it was very nice.
10:53Yes, Mr. President.
10:54We heard that.
10:54And we do love our Jeremy Hansen.
10:56We love all our Canadian astronauts.
10:58Jenny Gibbons, Josh Kutrick.
10:59They're just great people and they're such a welcome addition to our core.
11:04Great.
11:04Well, I, I really look forward to when we can, I look forward to seeing you in the Oval Office.
11:11I'll ask Jared to bring you over and I'll ask for your autograph because I don't really
11:17ask for autographs much, but you deserve that.
11:20You really are something.
11:21Everybody's talking about this.
11:22And I look forward to having you in the Oval Office at the White House and we will celebrate
11:29your incredible achievements and triumphs.
11:32This is big.
11:32This is really big stuff.
11:34The whole world is talking about it.
11:36And if you have the time, I will certainly find the time.
11:39I've been pretty busy also, as you know, but I will absolutely find the time and we'll
11:44get together and I'm going to be giving you a big salute on behalf of the American people
11:50and beyond that.
11:59Thank you for that, Mr. President.
12:01And when you want us, we will be there.
12:03And thank you for your leadership.
12:05Thank you to Jared for his leadership.
12:07Really, thank you for taking the time out today to visit NASA.
12:10It's really special for us, but it's really special for the team on the ground.
12:13A whole team of people all around the world pulled this off.
12:16And we just want to say thank you to all of you for this.
12:19It is the thrill and honor of a lifetime to have been on this journey.
12:22Today was amazing.
12:23But this every year journey has been amazing.
12:26And it was made possible by the American people and the Canadian people.
12:31And we're so grateful to you all.
12:32Thank you very much.
12:35Well, thank you very much.
12:36And, Jared, congratulations.
12:37We'll see you soon.
12:38And I know that you have Mars very much in your mind.
12:42So we'll start thinking about that pretty soon, I think.
12:44And thank you.
12:46Congratulations to everybody.
12:47I'll see you at the Oval Office.
12:50Thank you for your time, Mr. President.
12:51It's been an honor.
12:53Thank you very much.
