00:30Hello, everybody. It's Thursday, the 2nd of April.
00:33And welcome to the game show that's had more series than any other on Earth.
00:37And that is a fact.
00:39Let's introduce Dictionary Corner.
00:41She's been there since 1992.
00:43Again, that is true.
00:45Our Susie Dent.
00:46Joined from a man who's been there since Monday, making his debut is Mike Bubbins.
00:51And living the life of Riley, as always, is our Rachel.
00:54And a little bit of deja vu, because I love doing this every year.
00:57It's international fact-checking.
01:01So, you're going to work as teams of two.
01:03The other person will be the subject.
01:04I will give a fact about each of you individually.
01:08And the other two have to decide whether I've made it up.
01:09Is it fact or fiction, OK?
01:11So, your job is to keep a straight face.
01:14You first, Rachel.
01:15So, is this true or not?
01:16Well, the first celebrity Rachel ever met was Jimmy Cranky when she was six years old, when her dad took
01:24her and her brother to a recording of KTV at what was then ITV Studios.
01:30Fact or fiction?
01:32Fiction.
01:32Fiction.
01:33Fiction.
01:33Fact or fiction, Rachel?
01:34I've never even heard of half the stuff he was talking about.
01:37I know that the Crankys is a thing.
01:40I don't remember it ever being on.
01:41And I remember.
01:42I thought I remembered everything from the 90s.
01:43Yeah.
01:44He took us to Granada once.
01:45Well, no, then.
01:47It is fiction.
01:47So, fan-dabby-dozy to them, too.
01:49Right.
01:50Here we go.
01:50This time, it's Rachel and Mike teaming up.
01:53Susie Dent is the queen of dark-coloured clothes.
01:57We know this.
01:58But at 23 years old, her prized possession was a pair of pink hot pants.
02:06I can't imagine Susie in hot pants.
02:08I've seen pictures of Susie from back in the day.
02:10And I think she was more of like a sleek, leather jacket, goth kind of character.
02:16Leggings, possibly.
02:18Leather?
02:20If she was little, I could go along with it, but not in her 20s.
02:23Yeah, I don't think so.
02:24I think that's fiction as well.
02:25Fact or fiction?
02:26Fact.
02:27Yes!
02:28Come on!
02:29Where are the photos?
02:30Come on.
02:31I'm not having it unless we see the photos.
02:32How many times have you said that about Susie?
02:34Where's the photo?
02:34I don't have any.
02:35This was when you were living in New York?
02:38Yes.
02:39Yes.
02:39I went to a club in New York with a pair of very pink hot pants.
02:43Is that once?
02:44Maybe a couple of times.
02:46So, there you go.
02:47That's very good indeed.
02:49So, you managed to call their bluff.
02:50Well done to you.
02:51So, one more chance.
02:52It's Rachel and Susie together.
02:54That's a team that usually can sniff out my facts and fictions.
02:58Let's find out.
02:59Mike broke the actual Guinness World Record for hugging, but was then disqualified on live TV.
03:09It's got to be true.
03:12How do you get disqualified?
03:13Do you do a bad hug?
03:15Accidentally squeeze someone too hard?
03:18It's too far-fetched not to be true, I think.
03:20Go on, then.
03:20Fine.
03:20Let's go with it.
03:21I'm with the denticles.
03:22Mike Bobbins, fact or fiction?
03:24That is a fact.
03:25There was a Welsh TV programme called Make Wales Happy.
03:31Part of that at the end was the big finale was a World Record attempt at the World Hugging
03:37Record.
03:37Never the same person twice is the rule.
03:39A metre away and then the full hug.
03:42And then I broke it.
03:43I smashed it by four or five people.
03:45And then an elderly lady had stumbled towards me.
03:49So, I got two options.
03:50I keep the record attempt going.
03:52I step out of my mark to stop her falling on the floor.
03:55Step out of the mark to hold, to pick her up.
03:57Back onto my mark, hugged her, move on.
04:00And the fella there with the blazer and the clipboard went, no.
04:03Did they have to check the VAR?
04:05Well, there was no VAR, at least before that.
04:07And then the Guinness Book of Records book said, we'll just do it again.
04:11And they said, it's live TV.
04:12We're out.
04:13Wow.
04:14Wow.
04:14So, yeah.
04:14To be fair, if on live TV you had to look at an elderly lady falling over and went like
04:18this, that would have been worse for you.
04:21There is a brilliant parenting gif of the mother holding a little baby as the wine glass
04:25is falling.
04:26She manages to catch the wine glass.
04:27Oh, yes.
04:29Priorities.
04:30Well, let's raise a glass to our new champion, Owen Redman.
04:34And just one that went in the bag, but we've got high hopes for our Dubliner.
04:38Welcome back, mate.
04:39We had lovely stories yesterday about you knocking over statues and Sinead O'Connor's
04:43house and all of that stuff.
04:45But just tell us about who's watching at home.
04:47Yeah, family, my wife, three kids.
04:50Have any of them got a typically female Irish name?
04:53Because they were learning the spellings on our St. Patrick's Day show and they never
04:57forget.
04:57Just my eldest, Quaver.
04:59Oh, brilliant.
05:01Yeah, C-A-O-I-M-H-E.
05:03Well, love to them all.
05:04I'm sure they're very proud.
05:05Great to have you here.
05:06Thanks, Colin.
05:06You're up against Robbie Hart.
05:08So, there's a little extra bonus quiz here.
05:11Robbie Hart is the lead character name from which famous movie?
05:17And, Mike, you've probably done this job at some stage.
05:21Oh, it's The Wedding Singer, isn't it?
05:22It is The Wedding Singer.
05:24Oh, I have done that.
05:25And this is the thing.
05:26Obviously, that's what I'm going to say to him.
05:27You'll tell me you've never even watched the movie.
05:29I've never seen it.
05:31I love it.
05:32Well, you join us from Glasgow.
05:33You don't mind me saying he's 54, but look how healthy he looks.
05:37This is because he's already retired.
05:39Come on.
05:40You just look...
05:41So, I mean, tell me, it's everyone's dream to retire a bit younger.
05:45How are you feeling your days?
05:46Oh, I feel my days.
05:47Don't worry about that.
05:48Two dogs keep me busy.
05:50Yes.
05:51My wife keeps me busy.
05:53You look like you've had some winter sun there.
05:55I've just backed from a wee cruise.
05:57There you go.
05:58Just a wee little thing at the end of March,
06:00just to take you over until the summer.
06:01Brilliant.
06:02Well, listen, we're glad you're here, Robbie.
06:04Best of luck to you and to Owen.
06:06So, let's play some Countdown.
06:10Owen, you're up first this time.
06:12Countdown in place.
06:13Thank you, Owen.
06:14Start today with this.
06:16And another.
06:17G.
06:18And another.
06:22And a vowel.
06:24A.
06:25And another vowel, please.
06:26E.
06:27A consonant.
06:29N.
06:29And another consonant.
06:31T.
06:32And a final vowel, please.
06:35Final A.
06:36At home and in the studio, let's play Countdown.
06:38T.
06:39A consonant.
07:09Seven. And for you, Robbie? Seven. Good start. Owen? Tanners. Tanners, yes. Robbie? Strange. Two strong sevens to start to
07:18show. Good letters, though. So, have you spotted anything? There is an eight. But I'll be very honest with you,
07:23I'm not sure what it means. Yeah. Tanagers. Tanagers, Susie. There's more American songbirds of the Bunting family. There you
07:31go. Right, more letters, please. Robbie, you're up. Hi, Rachel. Hi, Robbie. Consonant, please. Thank you. Start with S.
07:39Consonant. D. Vowel. O. Consonant. F. Vowel. I. Vowel. E. Consonant. S. Vowel. A. And coincident. Finally, R. Let's have
07:5830 seconds.
07:59R. Let's have 30 seconds.
08:29Robbie? Just five. A five here. Owen? Seven, I think. A seven. So, Robbie, what's to say five? Five. And
08:37what are you thinking here, Owen? Dossier. Yeah. Yeah, very good.
08:41No worries with that. Back-to-back sevens for our champion. Can you outdo them again?
08:46So, we've got two sevens. We can't beat that. We can match it. We've got roadies for seven.
08:50Mm-hm. And going back to the old Aussie rules football days in the 80s, fedoras.
08:54How does that connect Aussie rules? Because in the old days, in the 80s, when I first started watching it,
08:59the judges behind the goals would describe it as the gentleman in the white fedoras and lab coats.
09:03The ones that used to signal whether it was, yes, what a curious piece of sporting apparel.
09:08Yeah. Goodness me. And what do they wear now?
09:10Baseball caps and, like, day-glow tops.
09:12They didn't. No. It's the same.
09:14The game's gone. The game's gone.
09:17Right, we'll stick to this. This is how we do it. Let's get the numbers. No need to change it,
09:21Owen.
09:21One large, please. Right. And five others.
09:24One and five. The old one and five.
09:27First numbers of the day.
09:28Six, three, one, four, seven, and 75.
09:34And the first target of the day, 402.
09:36402. Numbers up.
10:08We're looking at 402, Owen.
10:10Yeah, 402, and I fully wrote down.
10:12Thank you. And for you, Robbie?
10:13402. Excellent. Off you go, Owen.
10:1675 minus seven.
10:1968.
10:20Times six for 408.
10:22Yep.
10:23And then three minus one for two plus four is six. Take it away for 402.
10:28Lovely. That'll do.
10:29Yes. Well remembered. Off you go, Robbie.
10:31Seven plus one.
10:32Seven plus one, eight.
10:34Take that from 75.
10:35And that gives you 67.
10:37Times six.
10:38Straight there. Well done.
10:40Lovely.
10:40APPLAUSE
10:42Could be good in the night.
10:43Let's see how it works out.
10:45Tea time teaser is let's share.
10:47Let's share.
10:49Cruel to play a game of cards with a whole suit missing.
10:52Cruel to play a game of cards with a whole suit missing.
10:57MUSIC
11:11Welcome back. Yes, our deck of cards were missing the hearts, but we're not heartless today with Robbie here, so
11:15let's get more letters.
11:16OK, consonant, please.
11:19Thank you, Robbie.
11:20T.
11:21And consonant.
11:22S.
11:23Vowel.
11:25E.
11:26Consonant.
11:28J.
11:29Vowel.
11:30U.
11:31Vowel.
11:33A.
11:34Consonant.
11:35R.
11:36Vowel.
11:38I.
11:39And the consonant.
11:39Lastly, T.
11:41And start the clock.
11:43MUSIC
12:12All right, Robbie.
12:14Six.
12:15And for you, Owen.
12:16Seven.
12:17A seven.
12:17The six, Robbie.
12:19Sitter.
12:19And take me to seven.
12:21Jitters.
12:21Jitters.
12:22Very good.
12:23Missed a sitter because you had the jitters.
12:25What else?
12:25Very nice using the J there.
12:26We had jitters too.
12:28Two other sevens.
12:29We can't beat that, though.
12:29Situate.
12:30Seven.
12:31And artiste.
12:32And there you go.
12:33Let's move on then and go again.
12:35Owen Redman.
12:37Consonant, please.
12:38Thank you, Owen.
12:39G.
12:40And another.
12:41N.
12:42And another.
12:42L.
12:44And a vowel, please.
12:45E.
12:46And a consonant.
12:48M.
12:49And a vowel.
12:51I.
12:52And a consonant.
12:54D.
12:55Another consonant.
12:58Z.
12:59And a final vowel, please.
13:01Final E.
13:03Here we go.
13:04Give it now.
13:06Music.
13:06What?
13:35MUSIC CONTINUES
13:377. And for you, Robbie?
13:387. 7-2. Well done. We'll get those scores ticking.
13:41Come on, Owen.
13:42I have meddling.
13:43Meddling. We'll get to that in a second.
13:45Robbie? Mingled.
13:47Mingled and meddling.
13:48Susie can do her meddling now.
13:50Yes. You need two Ds, definitely,
13:52for meddling in someone else's affairs.
13:55If you're at the Olympics, you're meddling with an A,
13:58obviously, and a double L.
13:59So, yeah, not with that spelling, I mean, I'm afraid.
14:01Sorry.
14:02Yeah, Robbie's very happy about that.
14:04What else did dictionary corner spot?
14:07So, we've got some sevens melding.
14:08Yeah.
14:10Mingled and deeming.
14:12Deeming to deem, yes.
14:13There you go.
14:14So, sevens gets Robbie back to within seven points
14:18as we do the numbers again.
14:19Second time today.
14:20See if Robbie's going to play it safe for it.
14:22So, we'll take a risk.
14:24One large, please.
14:25Safe to start with.
14:26As safe as you can get on this game.
14:28One large, five not.
14:30And your small ones.
14:31One, eight, six, ten, nine.
14:36And the large one, 50.
14:37And the target, 521.
14:40Five, two, one.
14:41Numbers up.
14:41Five, two, one.
14:57So, three, one.
15:125-2-1, Robbie.
15:145-2-4.
15:15Missed it by three. Owen.
15:17Yeah, 5-2-1.
15:18Off you go, you're going to restore a slightly more healthy lead.
15:21So 50 plus 1.
15:2351.
15:24Times 10.
15:26510.
15:27510. 9 minus 3.
15:29Sorry, what? 9 minus 6.
15:319 minus 6 is your 3.
15:33Plus 8.
15:34And there's the element.
15:35Lovely. Well done.
15:36Nice, well done.
15:39So 41-24, just six rounds in as we break Braille again
15:43with the brilliant Mike Bobbins.
15:45And I feel like every day we move on to a different career
15:47for Mike, which is brilliant.
15:49And I would just hate if we got to the end of the week
15:52and didn't talk about the Socially Distant Sports Podcast
15:55because, I mean, just such a great story of just a good idea
15:59that's grown and grown and grown and got so popular
16:02without, you know, a big podcast company at the beginning
16:05or any huge amounts of funding.
16:07Just gives a bit of the origin quickly.
16:09So, yeah, Socially Distant Sports Bar.
16:11It was going to be a round of sports every week.
16:13So my friend Steph's a sports journalist.
16:14Ellis, you know, is a comic.
16:16I'm a comic.
16:17Then lockdown started.
16:18I had no gigs.
16:19Ellis had no gigs.
16:20There was no sport to report on.
16:22So Steph, so let's make just our favourite clips,
16:24our favourite sports documentaries and books, films.
16:27We'll talk about that.
16:28It started a very sporty, like an hour long,
16:30and then just got longer and longer.
16:32Six years now that it's been going, just over six years.
16:34And people get to know that.
16:36You know, it's like when you've got a podcast,
16:37people get to know the characters and the people you talk about.
16:39So we did a couple of live tours, but the one...
16:42You know that.
16:43You're underplaying that a little bit.
16:44Did a couple of gigs here and there.
16:46What's it like to go from an idea that was born out of being locked away
16:50to then the absolute opposite of that,
16:53of looking out at, and it has been, at times,
16:57thousands of people turning up to one event?
16:59Don't have to blow my own trumpet, Colin.
17:02Yeah, it's strange.
17:03I mean, people don't think we'd make this up,
17:04but the first time, because of lockdown and Zooms and everything else,
17:07the first time the three of us actually met in person
17:10was the first gig we did in London, in a theatre,
17:13so in front of, like, 1,500 people.
17:14That's crazy.
17:15And then we ended up doing the arena in Cardiff,
17:18like, 6,000-seater arena show.
17:21My neighbour I talked about, and he's just recently,
17:23not long ago, passed away, a lovely bloke called Vic.
17:26I called him Topsoft Vic.
17:27I used to talk about him on the podcast,
17:28because he was always in the garden with his top off.
17:31He was 80 years of age.
17:32I talked about him, and people really liked the stories
17:34I told about him.
17:35So we did the live show in Cardiff Arena.
17:38Like I said, 6,000 people there.
17:39I said, Vic, do you want to come down and say hello to the people,
17:42the listeners?
17:42They all love you.
17:43He said, yeah, no problem.
17:44I said, would you mind taking your top off?
17:47He said, yeah, no problem.
17:49So he's there, you know, thousands of people there,
17:51and he walks out with his top off, just waving.
17:53The place went, took the roof off.
17:55Had an encore, had to come back on it for the second time.
17:58People were getting selfies, people were taking their tops off.
18:01It was amazing.
18:02So, yeah, it was lovely.
18:03Well, I can't recommend it enough.
18:04Oh, thank you, mate.
18:05It's just full of laughs and love and positivity,
18:07and Mike has me in stitches on it as well.
18:11It's perfect for you as well.
18:12Very kind.
18:12Perfect.
18:12Thank you very much, Mike.
18:14Nice to have you.
18:17Back to the game.
18:19Not too distant, the scores at the moment,
18:21but it feels, Robbie, every time you get on his coattail,
18:24he then pushes ahead again.
18:26So let's see how it works out.
18:27Let's get more letters now from you, Owen.
18:29A consonant, please.
18:31Thank you, Owen.
18:32L.
18:33And a vowel.
18:35A.
18:35And a consonant.
18:37N.
18:38And another consonant.
18:40T.
18:41And another consonant.
18:43S.
18:43And a vowel.
18:45I.
18:46And another vowel.
18:48O.
18:49And a consonant.
18:51W.
18:52And a final vowel, please.
18:56Final U.
18:57And let's do it.
19:10Bye-bye.
19:11Bye-bye.
19:11Bye-bye.
19:13Bye-bye.
19:25MUSIC PLAYS
19:29Owen? Seven. Strong. Robbie? Seven. Well done.
19:34Owen? Outlaws. And Robbie? Yeah, same. Nice.
19:37Couple of outlaws. Let's head over to Dictionary Corner.
19:41Any other words? Wanted? We can match the seven. Yeah. Very nice.
19:45Thanks. We can match the seven. Outsail. Outsail to match it.
19:49There you go. We're on the high seas. So outlaws and pirates for that round.
19:53This is lovely. More letters. Here we go. Keep the faith, Robbie Hart.
19:58Consonant, please. Thank you, Robbie. P. And an R. C. And a vowel.
20:05E. And a consonant. H. Vowel. I. Vowel. A.
20:14Coincident. P. Vowel. I. And a consonant.
20:21And a final R. And good luck.
20:55Robbie? Seven.
20:56Owen? I got eight.
20:58He's going for an eight. Robbie the seven.
21:02Happier.
21:03Well, you're not going to be.
21:04I'm going chappier.
21:05Yeah. Oh, chappier.
21:07No, I looked up chappier.
21:09In case that's what you were thinking.

26:01OK, Owen? Just a five. Robbie? Six. The six. Here we go again. Owen, the five. Mount. Let's get some
26:09of those points back, Robbie. Normal. Normal. Normal.
26:12Yeah. Every time I think Owen's going to pull away, yet again, Robbie just digs in and it's brilliant. It's
26:19a brilliant back and forth today. Do we have anything beyond the normal?
26:23No, we've got another six, though. Outran is six. Yeah. Outran. And you can have M out just to rub
26:29it in.
26:29Oh. Well, you can't outrun Robbie. The lead is just 12. And Susie can't outrun this dental emergency.
26:37And I can't believe you've made it to Thursday. But just for anyone who hasn't watched this week, we're spurring
26:42you origins of words.

27:59Yeah, unfortunately, we were just chatting about this,
28:01Mike and I, it's a capital S, unfortunately,
28:04which means we can't have it.
28:05There, but ruled out for the capital, yeah.
28:08So, again, look, just straight down there,
28:10going from normal, ignores,
28:12and we can't ignore the scoreline.

29:31Go eight.
29:33My goodness me, he's going with an eight here,
29:34which would put him into the lead.
29:37Nothing wrong with a seven, Owen.
29:38What have you got?
29:39Upwards.
29:40Upwards.
29:40And Robbie, what are you going to try?

31:38Keep your cool.
31:39It's 15 rounds.
31:41You're not even at half time.
31:42But it's so much easier said than done.
31:45This has been the dictionary definition of keeping your cool.
31:47Unbelievable.
31:49So, hearts broke already as we get this non-crucial fingers on the buzzers.
31:55Countdown conundrum.
32:26Time is up.
32:28Sudident sounds like something, a cream you'd put on, isn't it?
32:32A little bit of Sudident for a rash.
32:34Rachel got this in a second.
32:35Mike got it at 29, but as he's the guest, we'll go to you.
32:38Yeah, I think it's right. Am I right?
32:40I think so. Unstudied.
32:41Let's have a look. Yes!
32:44Oh, you're such a milker.
32:49Only took four days.
32:51Owen, if that was a boxing match, you were up on all the scorecards

33:37For quite a lot of the time.
33:39But anyway, thank you for putting up with me.
33:41I'm hoping it's not putting anyone off their tea.
33:43No, of course not. Of course not.
33:45No, Susie Dent.
