Nigeria troops rescue 31 abducted Easter worshippers in Kaduna attack

Nigerian troops have rescued 31 worshippers abducted during Easter services in Kaduna state, the military said, following an attack that left several people dead.

00:03Violence and insecurity continue to plague parts of Nigeria, but the country's military is fighting back.
00:10On Sunday, it announced that it had rescued 31 worshippers abducted from Easter festivities in the northwestern Kaduna state.
00:18Five others among those taken were killed by the attackers.
00:22According to officials, gunmen stormed a Catholic and an evangelical church,
00:26the incident unfolding around 100km north of the capital.
00:31This, even after the head of the police ordered a significant security deployment at places of worship over the Easter
00:37period.
00:38It's not the first time Kaduna has faced such violence.
00:41Back in January, attackers kidnapped more than 170 worshippers from several churches.
00:47Eighteen managed to escape, and the remainder were freed following negotiations.
00:53The state is one of a handful in the country that have been troubled by criminal gangs, known as bandits,
00:58that launch raids and abduct for ransom.
