If you've lived your whole life in one place, it makes sense you'd want to be buried there. But for residents of one town in Tasmania’s north, finding out they'd have to join a burial waiting list came as a complete surprise. The local church says its cemetery is full, leaving residents with few options but to look elsewhere.

00:02Sally Hills always thought when she died she'd be buried in her hometown, Campbelltown in northern Tasmania.

00:11The lifelong resident recently found out the cemetery at the local Anglican Church is full.
00:17So she can't be buried there with her parents and brother.
00:21I just couldn't believe that I would not end up here considering I've been here all my life.
00:25She is not alone. Kate Woodham was told there were no available plots when her father passed unexpectedly.
00:33The only option was to bury him in the neighbouring town of Ross.
00:37It still hurts us that he couldn't be placed where he wanted to be.
00:41Campbelltown District Committee member David Gattenby took the issue to council in March.
00:46I've had a number of residents come to me and ask if I could bring it up.
00:51Some locals are calling on the Northern Midlands Council to build a public cemetery so locals can continue to be
00:59buried close to home.
