Taoyuan International Airport has unveiled the roof design for its new Terminal 3. The unique covering, designed to resemble Taiwan's mountainous terrain and ocean waves, is said to be the nation's largest roof. It's the latest milestone in construction on the years-long project, which is set to finish in 2027.

00:05Not just because it's wave-shaped, it's also the size of 16 standard soccer fields,
00:10making it the largest roof in Taiwan.
00:13The design of the giant covering, inspired by Taiwan's mountainous terrain and surrounding ocean,
00:19also features a waterproof layer in these rain gutters, made to withstand the turbulent weather here.
00:37The construction team says the biggest obstacle to building the roof
00:41was the high wind from the open fields around the airport.
00:44It says its work will wrap up next month.
00:48It's the latest in the project that's been in the works for years and seen multiple delays.
00:53Last December, Terminal 3's North Concourse opened to the public,
00:57while the rest is set to welcome travelers in 2027.
