00:04galaxies are massive cosmic bodies of entire solar systems and beyond but around 100 million light
00:10years away astronomers have just discovered two galaxies that are on a collision course with each
00:14other the spiral galaxies are called ngc 5953 and ngc 5954 and their gravitational fields are
00:22already joining the two this is the image the hubble space telescope was able to capture recently
00:27with 5954 already having some of its cosmic materials seep away into 5953 eventually these
00:34spirals will fully join and become an elliptical galaxy like this and it's especially important to
00:39those living in the milky way galaxy as experts believe this relatively common phenomenon will
00:44eventually happen here as well for us that merger will occur with the andromeda galaxy of course that
00:49won't happen for about another 4.5 billion years so why and how do these galactic collisions occur
00:54in the unfathomable vastness of space well despite space being a black vacuum many
00:59galaxies are connected by intergalactic filaments of gas which draw galaxies together from millions
01:04millions if not billions if not billions of miles away
