00:00Breaking up is like knocking over a coke machine. You can't do it in one push.
00:03You gotta rock it back and forth a few times and then it goes over.
00:07Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the TV series from decades past
00:12that fans keep re-watching to cheer up, unwind, or to just relive them again.
00:18I'm so embarrassed. I wish there was a hole I could just crawl into and die.
00:22Okay, throw in the hole.
00:24Number 10. Parks and Recreation.
00:26And that's why they call me Prince Charming, because I always find the glass slipper for my Cinderella.
00:31These are way too tight.
00:32Well, the real Cinderella didn't have hippo feet.
00:34If you're looking to relax, Recreation is right in the name.
00:37Parks and Rec may not be the only mockumentary sitcom with a great ensemble cast,
00:41but its particular lineup is absolutely incredible.
00:45Every single character brings something great to the table.
00:48From Leslie's endlessly inspiring optimism, to Ron's deadpan masculinity, to April's caustic sarcasm,
00:54they're all perfect at what they do and are fantastically entertaining together.
00:58I'd say my coaching style is centered around fundamentals, with an emphasis on fun.
01:03Hey, watch this. Go get it.
01:05And while living in Pawnee would probably give us heart disease,
01:09it might be worth it to interact with all its other colorful residents.
01:12As it is, we'll have to settle for re-watching the show yet again.
01:16Normally, if given a choice between doing something and nothing, I'd choose to do nothing.
01:20But I will do something if it helps someone else do nothing.
01:23I'd work all night if it meant nothing got done.
01:26Number 9. Law & Order Special Victims Unit
01:29Now, granted, a cop show that focuses specifically on sex crimes
01:32may seem like a strange thing to comfort watch on paper.
01:35What's the rush? None of your business.
01:37Trust me, it's my business.
01:38I got nothing to say.
01:39Then why are you running like a little scared rat?
01:40However, the Law & Order formula is tried and true,
01:44with a defined structure for practically every episode,
01:46which makes every series in the franchise great to put on whenever.
01:49I thought we were working this case together,
01:51and you called Violet without telling me?
01:53You got another way to get Jess up to talk.
01:55SVU in particular has had the longest run of not only every Law & Order,
01:59but every live-action American primetime series,
02:02meaning that even if you watch all of it,
02:04you're bound to get more out of a re-watch.
02:06If I'm going to wake up a judge,
02:08I need something more compelling than a theory.
02:10Cooper's finances aren't enough?
02:12Not without solid evidence of where that money came from.
02:15Plus, Mariska Hargitay's powerhouse performance as Olivia Benson never gets old.
02:21Number 8, The Simpsons.
02:22Yay!
02:24Wait a minute, I'm not sure about this.
02:27While The Simpsons is no longer the cultural force it once was,
02:30its earlier seasons helped turn it into a household name for good reason.
02:33Hey, look, this one's coming on to me.
02:37Yoo-hoo, Mr. Robot!
02:40We see so much of ourselves in the Simpsons family and all the residents of Springfield.
02:45The writing is witty, the lines are iconic and quotable,
02:48and the whole thing feels like it had its yellow finger on the pulse of America,
02:52or at least pop culture.
02:54Whether it's through endless reruns or streaming,
02:56sitting down with The Simpsons is often the only thing keeping us from having a cowman.
03:00This is the most thoughtful thing anybody ever...
03:03Sweet, merciful crap!
03:05My car!
03:06Number 7, Grey's Anatomy.
03:08There are several long-running medical dramas people are nostalgic for out there,
03:12but Grey's Anatomy is arguably the most rewatchable.
03:15You tell anyone I did this for you, not only will I kill you,
03:18I will sell your body parts for cash.
03:21The high-stakes cases in each episode are certainly worth revisiting,
03:25but it's the cast and their relationships that viewers take the most comfort in.
03:28With the show running for over two decades,
03:31there's years worth of character development,
03:33loves and losses to return to and take joy and sorrow in all over again.
03:37She shaved her legs for you, and you didn't even kiss her goodnight.
03:42She shaved her legs for you and you didn't follow through?
03:44Hey, I follow through.
03:45I always follow through.
03:46Sure, we could watch something new,
03:47or we could watch interns become attendings,
03:50and the whole saga of McDreamy and Meredith for the hundredth time.
03:53I love you, in a really, really big, pretend to like your taste in music,
04:01let you eat the last piece of cheesecake,
04:04hold a radio over my head outside your window,
04:07unfortunate way that makes me hate you.
04:09Number 6. How I Met Your Mother
04:11Is there any beer in the fridge?
04:12It's 10 in the morning.
04:14Grab me one?
04:14Ted Mosby telling his kids the story of how he met their mother
04:17also happens to be quite a comfy watch for us.
04:19You hear me, universe?
04:21This is Ted Mosby talking!
04:24Give me some rain!
04:25Ted, Marshall, Lily, Robin, and Barney's lives
04:28are as funny as they are heartbreaking or heartwarming.
04:31Featuring non-linear narratives,
04:32foreshadowing, and running gags galore,
04:35How I Met Your Mother rewards re-watchers
04:36with new details you may have missed the first time,
04:39or the 20th,
04:40while also providing plenty of laughs and occasional tears.
04:43I gotta do this.
04:46Ow!
04:47What the hell?
04:48That wasn't me.
04:49That was the universe.
04:50No matter how many times we've seen the show,
04:52it is guaranteed to be legend.
04:54Wait for it.
04:56Number 5. Seinfeld
04:57Sometimes you just want to cozy up with a show about nothing.
05:00Rub some lotion on my back.
05:02Who are you, Mrs. Robinson?
05:05Come on, I'll rub some on you.
05:07No, that's not sweetening the deal.
05:09Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer's misadventures
05:11in the minutiae of social interactions
05:13are endlessly entertaining.
05:15I was in the pool!
05:16I was in the pool!
05:18Seinfeld's dozens of pop culture-defining iconic quotes
05:21and outlandish situations
05:22are still incredible decades after it aired.
05:25I'm bored.
05:27Talk to me.
05:29Who doesn't love to consider
05:30all the little aspects of life with Jerry?
05:32Or see how deep a hole George can dig himself?
05:35Or enjoy Elaine's many corporate snafus?
05:38Or bust a gut at whatever chaos Kramer finds himself in?
05:40Which part?
05:41The renovating the restaurant you don't own part?
05:43Or spending the $200 million you don't have part?
05:47Seinfeld may be about nothing,
05:49but it's all the more relatable and comforting for it.
05:52Number 4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
05:59That's not what I'm looking for.
06:00There are many supernatural teen dramas,
06:03but the godmother of them all is Buffy.
06:05The eponymous Slayer and her Scooby gang of friends
06:08face issues both fantastical and mundane.
06:10And it's all so very watchable.
06:12Well, maybe your beauty's fading.
06:15The stress of slang aging you prematurely.
06:17The dialogue is snappy and gets funnier with age.
06:20The dramatic moments still hit us like a stake through the heart.
06:23And the show perfectly balances episodic plots
06:25with seasonal storylines.
06:26You guys, what is happening?
06:28This is crazy.
06:29Oh, no, it's not.
06:30It's all finally making perfect sense.
06:32Buffy may not be as immortal as the vampire she kills,
06:35but as long as fans keep the love for her show alive,
06:38it will never die.
06:40Number 3. Gilmore Girls
06:42Some shows just capture a vibe like no others.
06:45And Gilmore Girls is the epitome of autumn.
06:48Score!
06:48I know.
06:50I'm completely jazzed.
06:51Still, whether it's a blustery fall day or not,
06:53it is never a bad time to curl up and watch Lorelai and Rory
06:57or the other oddball residents of Stars Hollow.
06:59The central mother-daughter friendship remains unmatched on television,
07:02while the witty repartee is nearly without equal, too.
07:05We get all dressed up, and you're light.
07:08Easy to hold up when you get tired.
07:09Mom.
07:09Plus, we got the whole mother-daughter gimmick going for us.
07:11The crowd will heat that up.
07:12Although some of Rory's life choices make us want to throw something even now,
07:16the relationships, atmosphere, and overall feel of Gilmore Girls
07:20is like a warm blanket on a cold day.
07:22You like this style?
07:23Classic.
07:24Number 2. Avatar The Last Airbender
07:26Like the Avatar cycle of the titular character,
07:29this animated adventure show only improves through repetition.
07:32I see he taught you how to duck and run like a coward,
07:34but I doubt he showed you what a firebender is truly capable of.
07:41Aang's journey to save the world may be fraught with danger in action,
07:45but it's also loaded with comedy, wholesome moments of friendship,
07:48and life lessons whose truth only sinks in over time.
07:51Come on. You've got to feel the flow.
07:55The world itself is vast, well-realized, and fun to get lost in.
07:59Whether you grew up with Avatar The Last Airbender or first saw it as an adult,
08:03it is sure to cheer you up and enlighten you no matter how many times you've seen it.
08:08General Iroh, the offer to join my mission still stands, if you change your mind.

08:29Number 1. Friends
08:39The ultimate nostalgic comfort sitcom, Friends is so easy to just put on and feel better.
08:44The lives and loves of Monica, Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, and Phoebe
08:48are as comforting and familiar to many of us as our own.
08:58While we may not have giant apartments or be able to hang out at Central Perk all day
09:03with these funny, amazing characters,
09:05watching and re-watching Friends helps us maintain that fantasy.
09:08From its opening theme song to its closing credits,
09:11Friends promises to be there for you,
09:13and the series has kept that agreement all these years.
09:22Is there an older show you can't stop re-watching that we forgot?
09:26Make us say DON'T and share your favorites in the comments.
