00:00:07The Royals, the most famous family in the world.
00:00:11We have dissected to the nth degree everything the Royals have ever done.
00:00:16For decades we've witnessed their most precious moments.
00:00:19We're all talking about them in our circles.
00:00:21All the cameras are going to be on him and wonder what will be said.
00:00:25But what if we could hear what they're saying when they think nobody is listening?
00:00:28Charles turned away and he said, they look awful.
00:00:32Well now we can.
00:00:33The reading is my superpower.
00:00:35A crack team of lip readers are deciphering intimate royal conversations for the very first time.
00:00:41This brings us up close and personal into what they're thinking in these iconic moments.
00:00:46And might reveal their innermost secrets.
00:00:49From the risque.
00:00:50Look back to me, she is saying, I love the uniform, it's so sexy.
00:00:54He responds with, I love you real way.
00:00:57To the family rifts.
00:00:59I believe that he's saying, I've spent five hours with my dad.
00:01:03And not a friendly text from either.
00:01:06And the downright jaw dropping.
00:01:08You do realise that this is the end.
00:01:11And Megan responds, yes, I do know.
00:01:14This is utterly explosive.
00:01:17This is the Royals as you've never seen them before.
00:01:21Wow, they are going to be telling us stuff we've never heard before.
00:01:24I can't wait.
00:01:33Born in 1948, Prince Charles was Queen Elizabeth II's oldest son.
00:01:39And as the heir to the throne, the pressure to find the right kind of bride and future Queen of
00:01:44England was enormous.
00:01:46He was the future king.
00:01:50And according to the tabloids, really one of the world's most eligible bachelors.
00:01:54The first girlfriend that Prince Charles was serious about was Camilla Shand, who he dated in the early 1970s.
00:02:02However, their relationship fizzled out when Charles joined the Navy.
00:02:07So Charles, off he goes, conveniently oversees, what happens to the woman he has loved since 1970?
00:02:15Well, she discovers that she's somehow suddenly engaged to Andrew Parker Bowles.
00:02:21Apparently the family announced their engagement before they'd even confirmed it between each other.
00:02:24But aristocrats have very strange ways of doing things.
00:02:27The point is it took Camilla off the marital pitch for Charles.
00:02:31So his search for an eligible potential princess continued.
00:02:36When he finally hooks his girl, we are excited.
00:02:40So, who was the lucky girl?
00:02:43Diana Spencer, the daughter of an earl, was perfect princess material.
00:02:48She first met Charles in 1977, when she was just 16 and the future king was 29.
00:02:54But initially, there was little sign that love might blossom.
00:02:58When Diana Spencer first met Prince Charles, she wasn't entirely impressed.
00:03:03He didn't make the greatest first impression.
00:03:05And she thought that he was a bit sad at the time.
00:03:08But despite this first impression, three years later, in 1980, the couple officially began courting.
00:03:15She was invited to a barbecue in Sussex.
00:03:18She was told that Prince Charles would be there.
00:03:21She hadn't seen him in a while.
00:03:22They were all over each other.
00:03:24They got together at that barbecue.
00:03:26And the rest, as they say, is history.
00:03:29The romance received the warm approval of the inner circle of the royal family.
00:03:33You know, the Queen Mother, friend of Ruth Bermoy, had designs on the Spencer girls.
00:03:38Oh, she's like a little drop of perfection.
00:03:41Unimpeachable.
00:03:42Virginial.
00:03:43Ideal.
00:03:44Blank canvas.
00:03:45Perfect for monarchy.
00:03:46They can do what they like with her.
00:03:48And by golly, didn't they?
00:03:49And by February 1981, they were engaged.
00:03:55Five months later, on the 29th of July, the eyes of 750 million people across the world watched as Lady
00:04:03Diana Spencer married the future king, Prince Charles.
00:04:07So did he have any reassuring words for his bride-to-be?
00:04:11Our first in-depth look at the words they thought nobody could hear until now might reveal all.
00:04:18Prince Charles is turning around to Diana and I think he's saying, you will be fine.
00:04:25The 750 million viewers, it was the biggest ever television spectacle, are really believing because Diana wants it to work
00:04:32and Charles wants it to work.
00:04:34They're in a, it's basically a piece of theatre.
00:04:36They're both dressed up.
00:04:38They're not in control of the destiny.
00:04:42How Princess Diana is responding to Prince Charles looks to be quite sing-songy.
00:04:46She's not just saying it, she's kind of gone, as will you.
00:04:49And I can see that in her behaviour and how she's saying it and the smile that accompanies it as
00:04:53well.
00:04:54Stakes couldn't be higher, but in that moment, they're there for each other.
00:04:57You're going to be fine and so are you.
00:04:59You will be fine.
00:05:02Now, are they the most reassuring words?
00:05:07Probably not, but he could hardly say to her, you're making the biggest mistake of your life.
00:05:12I don't really love you.
00:05:13I'm being forced into this.
00:05:15You'll face press intrusion forever.
00:05:21Four months later, it was announced Princess Diana was pregnant and at just 21 years old, she gave birth to
00:05:28Prince William.
00:05:29If you're married to the future king, which Diana was, the expectation or the emphasis is placed heavily on your
00:05:36ability to reproduce so that the lineage, the dynasty, can continue.
00:05:40In William's case, of course, he's a firstborn boy.
00:05:43Ideal, really.
00:05:44Let's not pretend otherwise.
00:05:46Two years later, and Prince Harry, the spare, was born.
00:05:49But their mother was different from royal parents from the past.
00:05:53She wanted to be a more modern, hands-on mum.
00:05:57Princess Diana was their protector.
00:06:00She was their champion.
00:06:02She made sure that the boys had some normal things in life.
00:06:05They got to go to theme parks and to burger bars and she made sure they had privacy on holidays.
00:06:10They wore baseball caps.
00:06:12They were allowed to do more fun things.
00:06:14She went to their sports days.
00:06:15She got involved.
00:06:17She was mum.
00:06:18She was much more hands-on than royal women had been before her.
00:06:22But a decade into Charles and Diana's marriage, cracks began to form and the increasingly fraught relationship was picked apart
00:06:29by the world's media.
00:06:32On June the 16th, 1992, Andrew Morton's Diana, Her True Story was released, sending shockwaves around the world.
00:06:42The book revealed the Princess of Wales' heartbreaking battles with suicidal thoughts, an eating disorder, and the unravelling of her
00:06:50marriage to Charles, who, according to her, had never fallen out of love with Camilla.
00:06:55In a last-ditch attempt to repair her son's relationship, the Queen sent the pair on a trip to South
00:07:02Korea, where, as they worked as royal ambassadors, she hoped they'd be able to rebuild their marriage.
00:07:08The Queen sent Charles and Diana to South Korea for diplomatic reasons, but also because Charles and Diana were on
00:07:15the rocks.
00:07:16And the Queen thought some time out for them to regroup, recalibrate, come back together.
00:07:23It would be great for them, but it was an absolute disaster.
00:07:27Like, she sent them on the mini-break from hell.
00:07:30Ironically, it's called the togetherness tour.
00:07:33They couldn't look less together if they tried.
00:07:38In fact, they look like strangers, and they're acting like complete strangers.
00:07:46Now, our lip readers have fresh insights on this tense mini-make-or-break.
00:07:51Charles is trying to engage in conversation with Diana.
00:07:55He is looking out of the window at the back of the car, and he is trying to tell her
00:08:03that he believes that South Korea is quite interesting, and asses her, don't you?
00:08:09I think it was the Express newspaper that wrote that hate radiated between the two of them.
00:08:14Like, it was just, like, burning off them.
00:08:17They were, like, two repelling magnets.
00:08:18I think she's quite dismissive in her response.
00:08:22She appears to not be taking an interest in what Charles is asking her.
00:08:30Her responses seem to be one-word responses, like, yep, yeah, quite down.
00:08:38There's no cheerfulness in her words.
00:08:41And it's so notable how dismissive Princess Diana is of him.
00:08:46I mean, she's facing out the window.
00:08:48She's practically got her face pressed up against glass.
00:08:51She couldn't be any further away from him unless she was outside of the car.
00:08:55And she just looks so uninterested, and she sort of replies, yep, I'm not interested in you.
00:09:00Don't speak to me.
00:09:02I've clearly worn this massive hat in a car so I don't have to look at your face.
00:09:07Basically, go away.
00:09:08I want nothing to do with you.
00:09:10And then you get Charles, his pitiful attempt at conversation.
00:09:14It's the kind of thing that you say to someone that you're stuck in a lift with,
00:09:17not the person that you're married to, who is the mother of your children.
00:09:21I think South Korea is quite interesting, don't you?
00:09:26It's just painful and such an insight.
00:09:30I'm really glad I wasn't in Seoul in 1992.
00:09:32That's all I'm saying.
00:09:33Coming up, can we listen in on the drama of Charles and Camilla's wedding day?
00:09:37Charles turned away, and he said, they look awful.
00:09:41And we uncover possible plotting by the Sussexes.
00:09:44What the lip readers have uncovered here, it is history in the making.
00:09:56We Brits have been obsessed with the royals for decades.
00:09:59But what do they say when they think nobody is listening?
00:10:02For the first time, we're going to try to find out.
00:10:05Meghan leans into Harry, and I believe that she's saying, take advantage of the situation.
00:10:12This brings us up close and personal into what they're thinking in these iconic moments.
00:10:19On November 20th, 1995, Martin Bashir interviewed Diana, Princess of Wales.
00:10:25The resulting revelation sent shockwaves around the world,
00:10:29and the person at the centre of one of the biggest disclosures was Camilla Parker Bowles.
00:10:35First of all, what's interesting is that we have this footage of Camilla the day after the night before,
00:10:41when everybody has been eyeballs glued to Diana, where she talks about there being three in a marriage.
00:10:47Princess Diana enjoyed huge popularity with the British people,
00:10:51and this televised admission, blaming Camilla for the breakdown of her marriage,
00:10:56further turned the public against Camilla in her role as the other woman.
00:11:0023 million Brits watched the Panorama interview,
00:11:03and the next morning, dozens of cameras vied for the first glimpse of Camilla.
00:11:09Camilla is handling the crisis by, well, firstly, going horse riding.
00:11:14I mean, that's what royals do, isn't it, when they're feeling a bit depressed.
00:11:17They spend more time with horses.
00:11:19For the first time, 30 years since it was filmed,
00:11:23our lipreaders reveal what she might have said to her riding companions on that morning hack.
00:11:28Camilla is talking to a fellow rider.
00:11:32Camilla is looking down the side, and she's talking about, to him,
00:11:37that it's true she likes to tap her horse on the side, like so,
00:11:42and she demonstrates it,
00:11:44and how she does the tapping down the side of the horse's neck.
00:11:50She's not really talking about it at all.
00:11:53She's not saying, well, how are you?
00:11:56Oh, well, I've just been implicated in the highest rated television interview of all time
00:12:01in the breakdown of the marriage of the future king of England.
00:12:05I mean, it would be the first thing you'd say, wouldn't it?
00:12:07But not Camilla.
00:12:08No, she's talking about the horse.
00:12:09That she can sit there on a horse, making it look like any other Sunday in the rain,
00:12:14just speaks to her appeal to Charles, really,
00:12:18that she's got this ability to wear stress well.
00:12:22In August 1997, less than two years after the Panorama interview,
00:12:27the world was deeply shocked and united in grief
00:12:31when Princess Diana tragically died in a car crash in Paris.
00:12:35I remember very vividly Diana's death.
00:12:38It was the kind of John Lennon moment for my generation, but more powerful.
00:12:44There was something deeper than just, that's really sad.
00:12:46A woman in early middle age has died horribly and left two young sons.
00:12:52It was deeper than that.
00:12:56In the years after Princess Diana died,
00:13:00Prince Charles made it clear that Camilla Parker Bowles was going to be in his life.
00:13:04So, there was an effort by Charles' team
00:13:08to rehabilitate Camilla Parker Bowles in the eyes of the public.
00:13:12And a part of that was the first sort of official, if you like, sighting
00:13:17of Charles and Camilla together.
00:13:20It was January 1999 that Charles and Camilla went public.
00:13:28This was after her sister's 50th birthday party at the Ritz Hotel.
00:13:34Now, they tipped off the press.
00:13:36There was 200 press outside the hotel to get this picture,
00:13:41the picture of them together confirming their relationship.
00:13:46Now, as they leave the Ritz,
00:13:47you'll notice that there is a sea of cameras.
00:13:51The flashlights are going absolutely crazy.
00:13:54And there's this bizarre moment where Charles almost forgets she's there,
00:13:58wanders ahead of her.
00:13:59I mean, she's behind him.
00:14:01Like, essentially, you wanted to introduce Camilla to the world
00:14:03and you wandered ahead of her.
00:14:05Then, he kind of remembers that she's there.
00:14:09Charles looks back at Camilla and says to her,
00:14:13watch your step.
00:14:14And she responds to him,
00:14:16which shows a caring side of him.
00:14:18Charles knows that if Camilla had gone arse over tit,
00:14:21that would be the image forever.
00:14:24No secret about their relationship now.
00:14:26None possible at all.
00:14:27The photograph that the people have waited so long to see.
00:14:30You see Charles being quite protective of Camilla,
00:14:33telling her to watch her step as they go down the steps.
00:14:37They then get in the car
00:14:38and the lit readers managed to decipher
00:14:40Charles saying,
00:14:41that went well.
00:14:43Now, to you or I,
00:14:45a partner,
00:14:46meeting your family for the first time,
00:14:49that went well meant you're quite liked.
00:14:51To them,
00:14:52that went well meant that Camilla was literally not pelted with eggs
00:14:57by random members of the public
00:14:59who adored Diana.
00:15:00And it did go well.
00:15:03In the years that followed,
00:15:04the British public began to warm to Camilla and Charles.
00:15:08Finally,
00:15:08in February 2005,
00:15:10they announced their engagement
00:15:12and just two months later,
00:15:14the nation got to witness another royal wedding.
00:15:19For Princes William and Harry,
00:15:21the day was about supporting their father as best they could.
00:15:24I think we know that both of them were equivocal
00:15:27about their father's second marriage to Camilla
00:15:29and that was something that was quite unifying.
00:15:33In that moment,
00:15:34that's what you see there.
00:15:35You know,
00:15:35we've got to get on with this,
00:15:36we've got to do our duty,
00:15:38be present for our father.
00:15:39Ultimately,
00:15:40they want their dad to be happy
00:15:41and they put their best foot forward.
00:15:43For William,
00:15:44that's easier said than done.
00:15:47William with hair,
00:15:48I mean,
00:15:48now that's a bit of a novelty.
00:15:49I think one of the reasons it's a bit why-why
00:15:51is because clearly a bit's falling out, isn't it?
00:15:54It's a bit thin.
00:15:55He's kind of realising that he's having a bad hair day
00:15:58and Harry's loving it.
00:16:01But for these loving brothers,
00:16:03it's an opportunity to bond,
00:16:05albeit over William's misfortune.
00:16:08William opened the dialogue here
00:16:10by saying his hair's a right mess.
00:16:12Harry's initial reaction seems to be,
00:16:15whoa,
00:16:16Harry responds with a,
00:16:17whoa,
00:16:18it's gone like that.
00:16:20But then he downplayed that and says,
00:16:22no, it's okay,
00:16:23it's all right.
00:16:24He's now responding to Harry's little jabs here
00:16:27with a bit of cheeky smell
00:16:29and it's the same doubt.
00:16:31You kind of see there
00:16:32the brotherly nature of their relationship.
00:16:34They do have the normal banter that all,
00:16:36but they do have,
00:16:37they're allowed to have the odd little
00:16:38dig and poke at each other.
00:16:40It just goes to show
00:16:41that you can be the future king of England,
00:16:43you can have servants,
00:16:45you can have valets,
00:16:46you can have the world at your disposal,
00:16:47but you can have a bad hair day
00:16:49and for him,
00:16:50the whole world is watching.
00:16:54It's at his father's wedding,
00:16:55for goodness sake,
00:16:57and his hair,
00:16:58it's bouffant.
00:17:03This was a huge day
00:17:05for Charles and Camilla,
00:17:06the culmination
00:17:07of a decades-long love story.
00:17:09But now our lip readers reveal
00:17:11they think one wardrobe choice
00:17:13caused Camilla some major stress
00:17:16on the big day
00:17:16and her groom didn't offer much comfort.
00:17:20She's holding on to her hat,
00:17:22she's struggling with the wind
00:17:23and she's saying,
00:17:25I wish I hadn't had feathers.
00:17:26and Charles turned away
00:17:30and he said,
00:17:31they look awful.
00:17:33On her wedding day,
00:17:34the groom turns to the bride
00:17:37and says,
00:17:38what she's wearing looks awful.
00:17:40I mean,
00:17:41I know that sometimes
00:17:42the royals aren't the sharpest tools
00:17:43in the box,
00:17:44but come on, Charles,
00:17:45you can do better than that.
00:17:46Camilla says
00:17:47she wishes she hadn't worn feathers.
00:17:49It's a very human response
00:17:50when the wind's trying
00:17:50you want to take your top knot off.
00:17:53She looks very attractive.
00:17:55She looks eminently lovable
00:17:56in these pictures
00:17:57with these crazy pantomime-style
00:17:59gold feathers.
00:18:01And apparently,
00:18:02even her new mother-in-law,
00:18:04the Queen,
00:18:04had something to say about it.
00:18:09The Queen moves over towards Charles
00:18:12and she says to him,
00:18:15I did forewarn her
00:18:17not to wear feathers,
00:18:18but Charles doesn't have time
00:18:20to talk about that right now.
00:18:22And Beatrice, however,
00:18:25is finding the whole thing fascinating
00:18:28when you see a big smile
00:18:30spread across her face.
00:18:32I suppose the Queen
00:18:32does know about headdresses.
00:18:34Let's be honest,
00:18:34the Queen wore about
00:18:35every single headdress
00:18:36under the sun.
00:18:38Coming up,
00:18:39Kate likes a man in uniform.
00:18:41She looks back to me,
00:18:42she's a dame,
00:18:43but I love the uniform.
00:18:45It's so sexy.
00:18:46Prince Harry gets the cold shoulder.
00:18:48And I believe that
00:18:49he's saying,
00:18:50I've spent five hours
00:18:51with my dad in his office
00:18:53and not a friendly text
00:18:55for me either.
00:18:57And heavy the head
00:18:58that wears the crown.
00:19:00He actually says to Camilla,
00:19:02don't get too close,
00:19:04my crown might topple over.
00:19:13The royals have captivated
00:19:15the British public for years.
00:19:17We hang on their every word.
00:19:19But what do they say
00:19:21when they think
00:19:21no one can hear them?
00:19:23Meghan leans into Harry
00:19:24and I believe that she says,
00:19:27take advantage of this situation.
00:19:30And then she pauses
00:19:31and just looks around
00:19:32and turns back to Harry.
00:19:34And he responds back to her
00:19:36and so today...
00:19:39For the first time,
00:19:41we might be able to tell you.
00:19:42This is new stuff.
00:19:44These are new insights
00:19:46the lip readers
00:19:46are going to be giving us.
00:19:48Prince William
00:19:49and Catherine,
00:19:50Princess of Wales,
00:19:51have become a power couple
00:19:52within the royal family.
00:19:54Their love story
00:19:55began shortly after
00:19:56the turn of the century.
00:19:57Back then,
00:19:58the question on the nation's lips was,
00:20:00who is Catherine Middleton?
00:20:02She was born in Berkshire,
00:20:04not of an aristocratic background,
00:20:06but she came from
00:20:07a nice middle-class family.
00:20:09Her parents,
00:20:10Carol and Michael Middleton,
00:20:11owned a business
00:20:12called Party Pieces
00:20:13that afforded Kate
00:20:14a nice lifestyle.
00:20:17She attended boarding school
00:20:18before taking a degree
00:20:19in art history
00:20:20at the University of St Andrews,
00:20:22the same university
00:20:24and course as Prince William.
00:20:26People were flooding
00:20:27to St Andrews
00:20:29that, you know,
00:20:29they could perhaps be
00:20:30in Prince William's class,
00:20:32sit next to him,
00:20:34pass him a pen,
00:20:35you know,
00:20:35fall in love with him.
00:20:36But it was Kate
00:20:37who caught his eye
00:20:38and captured his heart.
00:20:40They had the same
00:20:41friendship group,
00:20:42they were in the same
00:20:42halls of residence
00:20:44together,
00:20:45so they formed
00:20:45the same friendship group
00:20:47and their friendship
00:20:48grew into love.
00:20:50They began dating
00:20:51in September 2001
00:20:53and as the relationship
00:20:54became more serious,
00:20:56public scrutiny
00:20:57of Catherine increased.
00:20:59In 2007,
00:21:00they had been dating
00:21:01for six years
00:21:02and in one of her
00:21:03first high-profile
00:21:05public sightings
00:21:06at Prince William's
00:21:07passing out parade
00:21:08at Sandhurst,
00:21:09she revealed a playful
00:21:10side to her personality.
00:21:12She's always dressed
00:21:13quite old for her years
00:21:14and in sort of
00:21:15straight-laced,
00:21:16tailored outfits.
00:21:18But actually,
00:21:18the girl, Kate,
00:21:20if you look at her
00:21:20in this clip,
00:21:21she's just having
00:21:22a bit of a laugh.
00:21:23She's a good-time girl.
00:21:24She's a fun girl.
00:21:34And Kate,
00:21:35like any normal woman,
00:21:37commented,
00:21:37I love the uniform.
00:21:38It looks sexy.
00:21:39I mean,
00:21:40she's not blind,
00:21:41for goodness sake.
00:21:41Everybody loves
00:21:42a man in uniform.
00:21:44Very un-Queen of England
00:21:46like language,
00:21:47but of course,
00:21:47did she know
00:21:48she was going to be
00:21:49the Queen of England
00:21:49at this point?
00:21:50Probably not.
00:21:52But it is
00:21:53quite risque.
00:21:54I wonder if
00:21:56that uniform
00:21:57has made it
00:21:58into the palatial bedroom.
00:22:02Sexy man in uniform.
00:22:03I mean,
00:22:03who hasn't said that?
00:22:04Which woman
00:22:04hasn't said that?
00:22:05You know,
00:22:06so she speaks
00:22:06for all of us.
00:22:07There's something
00:22:08very clever about Kate
00:22:09and it's captured here.
00:22:11On the one hand,
00:22:11she can wear the clothes
00:22:12and hang around
00:22:13with the royal players
00:22:14and look the part,
00:22:15behave the part,
00:22:16but also,
00:22:17there's an everywoman
00:22:18quality to her
00:22:19and I think
00:22:19we love her for that.
00:22:26After a decade
00:22:27of dating,
00:22:28Prince William
00:22:28was finally ready
00:22:29to pop the question.
00:22:32William
00:22:32has proposed
00:22:34to Kate.
00:22:35She has waited,
00:22:36we've all waited
00:22:37and he's finally
00:22:38proposed to her.
00:22:39We are getting
00:22:40a royal wedding.
00:22:41I have to tell you,
00:22:42to the gays,
00:22:43that is like
00:22:44an FA Cup final.
00:22:45Thank God
00:22:46we're getting
00:22:47a royal wedding.
00:22:48And just like
00:22:49when Charles and Diana
00:22:50married,
00:22:50the couple had
00:22:51the eyes of the world
00:22:53upon them.
00:22:54William and Kate's
00:22:55wedding in 2011
00:22:57was the biggest
00:22:59royal wedding
00:23:00since Charles and Diana
00:23:01and also it was
00:23:02the time of the advent
00:23:03of social media
00:23:04so people were
00:23:05watching it on YouTube,
00:23:06talking about it
00:23:07on Twitter
00:23:07and Facebook
00:23:08at the time.
00:23:09Millions of people
00:23:10watched it around
00:23:11the world,
00:23:12not just on TV
00:23:12but streamed it.
00:23:14The interest was huge.
00:23:15They were the original
00:23:16influencers.
00:23:17Now for the first time ever
00:23:19we reveal what we think
00:23:20the newlyweds
00:23:21were saying to each other.
00:23:22At this point
00:23:23she says,
00:23:24are you happy?
00:23:27And William replies,
00:23:29it's been a perfect day.
00:23:32But with the April sun
00:23:34beating down
00:23:34and thousands of royalists
00:23:36waving their flags
00:23:37at the happy couple
00:23:38hoping for a wave
00:23:39and a smile back,
00:23:40William was beginning
00:23:42to flag.
00:23:43You can see the tension
00:23:44in his jaw.
00:23:46Perhaps he was coughing
00:23:48or just getting
00:23:50himself ready
00:23:51and Kate asks him,
00:23:53are you OK?
00:23:54And he said,
00:23:55yes, I'm all good.
00:23:58Here William says,
00:24:00my face is hurting
00:24:02from smiling
00:24:02at everyone
00:24:03so much
00:24:04and Kate responds,
00:24:07I'm smiling as well.
00:24:08So I think
00:24:09they're really happy
00:24:11and just expressing
00:24:13how they feel.
00:24:17She inquires
00:24:18what's going on
00:24:19and he says,
00:24:20oh, my face hurts
00:24:21from smiling
00:24:22so much
00:24:24which, again,
00:24:25you would have to.
00:24:27You're a royal.
00:24:27You've got to smile.
00:24:28We don't want to see
00:24:28you looking miserable.
00:24:30As the carriage
00:24:31pulls away,
00:24:33Kate
00:24:34say to William,
00:24:36tell me you love me
00:24:37which is quite
00:24:38an endearing moment
00:24:39for them
00:24:40and he responds
00:24:41with,
00:24:42I love you always.
00:24:44It's really nice
00:24:45that we get
00:24:46like a bit of an insight
00:24:47into these moments.
00:24:48Kate saying to William,
00:24:50tell me you love me.
00:24:51William replying,
00:24:52I will love you always.
00:24:53It's really, really lovely
00:24:54that they managed
00:24:55to have those moments.
00:24:57Usually significant occasion,
00:24:59an iconic wedding
00:25:00and I love that
00:25:02they managed to enjoy it.
00:25:03I love that for them.
00:25:06They're all smiles
00:25:08and William's quite chatty
00:25:10and happy
00:25:11and he instructs Kate
00:25:13to wave to the crowds.
00:25:16Whilst Prince William's
00:25:18enjoying the moment
00:25:20with his new wife,
00:25:21he still understands
00:25:24that he has to perform
00:25:26a duty
00:25:26and instructing Kate
00:25:30to wave
00:25:31is part of
00:25:34who he is.
00:25:36I think what the
00:25:37lit readers have done here
00:25:38has given us
00:25:39a brilliant insight
00:25:40into something
00:25:41we'd all seen.
00:25:42I mean,
00:25:42we'd seen this clip before
00:25:43but what we hadn't seen
00:25:45were the snippets
00:25:46of conversation.
00:25:47We'd never heard
00:25:48those before.
00:25:49What it's shown to me
00:25:51is actually
00:25:52during these big
00:25:54state occasions
00:25:55which we all enjoy,
00:25:57which is actually
00:25:58just a marriage
00:25:59between two people,
00:26:00the tightrope
00:26:00that they're walking
00:26:01between being themselves,
00:26:03being a couple
00:26:04for themselves
00:26:04but also giving themselves
00:26:06to all of us.
00:26:08They were switching
00:26:09between those two roles
00:26:10actually quite effortlessly
00:26:13but it really brought it home,
00:26:16those lip reading insights
00:26:18as to how difficult
00:26:19that must be sometimes.
00:26:21This was a real
00:26:22fairy tale moment
00:26:23and it was a fairy tale moment
00:26:24as well because
00:26:25she was not from
00:26:26an aristocratic background
00:26:28she was a middle-class girl
00:26:30that met William
00:26:31at university.
00:26:32It was a bit like a movie
00:26:34like Hollywood
00:26:35could not have written it
00:26:36and so you had that kind of
00:26:37you know,
00:26:38anybody could be
00:26:39a princess story.
00:26:41The couple had been together
00:26:43for years by now
00:26:44and the newlyweds
00:26:45transitioned seamlessly
00:26:46into their role together
00:26:47as working royals.
00:26:50A year later
00:26:51the Queen called upon them
00:26:53to step up
00:26:53when William's grandfather,
00:26:55Prince Philip,
00:26:56was suffering with an illness.
00:26:58This is the Diamond Jubilee.
00:27:00It's 2012.
00:27:01It's only a year
00:27:02after their massive
00:27:03big wedding bonanza.
00:27:06William sits down
00:27:07next to his grandmother,
00:27:10Queen Elizabeth
00:27:10and she says,
00:27:13I'm so pleased
00:27:14that you've done this
00:27:15while squeezing her nose
00:27:17at the same time
00:27:19and he replies
00:27:20and said,
00:27:21I owe you that.
00:27:23The Queen is very
00:27:24protective of William.
00:27:25We know that she's
00:27:26protective of both the boys
00:27:27in the wake of Diana's death
00:27:29but this is the future king.
00:27:30There was this connection,
00:27:32if you like,
00:27:32that I think
00:27:33you're able to have
00:27:34with a grandparent
00:27:35partly because
00:27:35they're one step removed.
00:27:36Sometimes parent is just
00:27:38a bit too close.
00:27:38It's a bit ick.
00:27:39You know,
00:27:40back off dad.
00:27:40The Queen also provided
00:27:43this extraordinary exemplar
00:27:45of monarchy,
00:27:47how to do the gig well
00:27:48and I think William
00:27:49respected that.
00:27:52So what's really
00:27:53interesting to see
00:27:54about this clip
00:27:55is what starts off
00:27:57as actually a really
00:27:58poignant moment
00:27:58between Prince William
00:28:00and his grandmother
00:28:01and the late Queen Elizabeth.
00:28:03She says,
00:28:04I'm glad you've done this
00:28:05because they've stepped in
00:28:06because Prince Philip
00:28:07is ill.
00:28:08I owe you that.
00:28:09You're just showing
00:28:10the deference and respect
00:28:11that Prince William
00:28:13had for his grandmother
00:28:15but then
00:28:16it's hilarious.
00:28:18They're giggling
00:28:19about something.
00:28:20You can see
00:28:21between the three of them
00:28:22they find something funny.
00:28:25The Queen
00:28:26then goes on
00:28:28to say that
00:28:28he must rest up
00:28:30so that he can get better
00:28:31and William says,
00:28:34oh, I see.
00:28:35The Queen also
00:28:36lets William know
00:28:38that his grandfather
00:28:40has a bad temperament
00:28:42when he's not very well
00:28:45and William replies with,
00:28:47he is grouchy,
00:28:49I know.
00:28:49They're having a bit
00:28:50of a laugh
00:28:51because apparently
00:28:52Philip's indisposed.
00:28:53He's got,
00:28:53I think,
00:28:54it was a bladder infection
00:28:55and they're talking
00:28:56about him being grouchy
00:28:57in very loving terms.
00:29:00See, that's a really nice moment
00:29:02where they just start
00:29:03giggling together
00:29:04and I think that
00:29:05Prince William brought out
00:29:06a little bit more
00:29:07of a playful side
00:29:08of the late Queen
00:29:10because I love
00:29:11that they're just
00:29:12sort of cracking jokes
00:29:13with each other.
00:29:14They're sort of being
00:29:14a bit cheeky
00:29:15about Prince Philip.
00:29:16They're being a bit cheeky
00:29:17about what might be happening.
00:29:18They clearly,
00:29:19absolutely adored each other
00:29:21and had a really,
00:29:23really good relationship.
00:29:27Two years into married life,
00:29:29in July 2013,
00:29:31the couple welcomed
00:29:32their first child,
00:29:33Prince George.
00:29:35Like his mother, Diana,
00:29:36William wanted to be
00:29:37a modern, hands-on parent.
00:29:40This was evident
00:29:41when he took Prince George
00:29:42for his first day of school
00:29:43and whilst this royal milestone
00:29:45was witnessed
00:29:46by countless cameras,
00:29:48William tried his best
00:29:49to make it as normal
00:29:50as possible
00:29:51for his son.
00:29:52Prince William is providing
00:29:53some reassuring words,
00:29:55I believe,
00:29:56so he's reassuring George
00:29:58that there are cameras there
00:30:00and that they're going
00:30:01to want to take photos
00:30:02of you because
00:30:03it's your first day
00:30:03at school
00:30:04and then we'll sit
00:30:05the teacher's hand
00:30:06once we approach her
00:30:08and you can see
00:30:09kind of Prince George
00:30:10acknowledging that
00:30:11and nodding along.
00:30:12He's clearly very shy
00:30:13and nervous
00:30:13as any kid would be
00:30:14on that first day
00:30:15at school.
00:30:16With Princess Charlotte
00:30:17already born,
00:30:18Kate was pregnant
00:30:19with baby number three,
00:30:21the future Prince Louis
00:30:22and couldn't be there.
00:30:24Instead,
00:30:25she was home
00:30:25battling morning sickness,
00:30:27leaving William
00:30:28to handle the big day.
00:30:29William is on full
00:30:30dad duty here
00:30:31because obviously
00:30:32Kate couldn't go along
00:30:33to this first day
00:30:34of school.
00:30:35So first he's having
00:30:36to step up his game
00:30:37and be a good dad
00:30:38but also Kate could have
00:30:39quite possibly been watching
00:30:41from home.
00:30:42So what if William
00:30:44puts a foot wrong?
00:30:45What if George scuffs
00:30:46his shoes and Kate sees
00:30:48from home?
00:30:48It's not like William
00:30:49can go home and just
00:30:50say, oh no, none of that
00:30:51happened.
00:30:52It's literally being
00:30:53beamed live.
00:30:54Prince William has not
00:30:55forgotten what it was like
00:30:56to be a young lad
00:30:57and to be under such
00:30:58scrutiny.
00:30:59And he's made sure
00:31:00that that is not
00:31:01transferred to Charlotte,
00:31:02George and Louis
00:31:02and good for them.
00:31:06On so many levels
00:31:07this is a straightforward
00:31:09moment, isn't it?
00:31:10Between father and son,
00:31:11first day at school,
00:31:12it's a dear little school
00:31:13in Battersea.
00:31:15But yet also the most
00:31:16bizarre in as much as
00:31:19most dads who take
00:31:20their child to school
00:31:21on the first day
00:31:23don't get in trouble,
00:31:24don't be cheeky
00:31:25to the teacher,
00:31:25don't rip your uniform,
00:31:27make sure you do
00:31:27your shoelaces up.
00:31:28Whereas this is,
00:31:29oh, please make sure
00:31:30that you're mindful
00:31:31of the international
00:31:32media that's
00:31:33photographing you
00:31:34and this is what
00:31:35they're doing.
00:31:36It's the most normal
00:31:37yet the most abnormal
00:31:38moment between
00:31:40father and son.
00:31:41It's amazing, really.
00:31:43Coming up,
00:31:44cracks begin to show.
00:31:46God, imagine
00:31:46like that relative
00:31:47you never, ever
00:31:48want to see.
00:31:50All sorts of
00:31:50unrealistic expectations
00:31:52were laid at the feet
00:31:53of a woman who's
00:31:54about to also be
00:31:55dubbed Duchess
00:31:56difficult.
00:31:57And it's a fine
00:31:58balance for the king.
00:31:59Don't get too clothed,
00:32:01my crown might topple
00:32:02over.
00:32:11The royals are the
00:32:12most filmed family
00:32:13in the world.
00:32:15There have been many
00:32:16iconic moments
00:32:16over the years,
00:32:17but now for the
00:32:19very first time
00:32:20we're going to try
00:32:21to find out
00:32:21what they were saying
00:32:22when they thought
00:32:23nobody was listening.
00:32:25There are so many
00:32:26moments that we've
00:32:27seen, but this
00:32:28is new stuff.
00:32:30These are new
00:32:30insights the lit
00:32:31readers are going
00:32:33to be giving us.
00:32:34Prince Harry is
00:32:35the younger brother
00:32:35father of William.
00:32:36Prince Harry was born
00:32:38on September 15th,
00:32:401984 and born at
00:32:42St Mary's Hospital
00:32:43and again he was
00:32:45paraded on the steps
00:32:46of the Lindo Wing
00:32:47by his mum,
00:32:49Princess Diana,
00:32:50along with her
00:32:50husband, Prince Charles.
00:32:52Harry was the spare.
00:32:54He went to Eton
00:32:54but struggled.
00:32:56He then joined the
00:32:57army and thrived
00:32:58and came into his
00:32:59own during his
00:33:00tours of Afghanistan.
00:33:02He was beloved
00:33:02of the people
00:33:03and Britain's
00:33:04most eligible bachelor.
00:33:06In 2014,
00:33:08Prince Harry
00:33:08established the
00:33:09Invictus Games
00:33:10and a year later
00:33:11it was confirmed
00:33:12he would leave
00:33:13the army.
00:33:14Supporting wounded,
00:33:16injured and ill
00:33:17servicemen and women
00:33:18became a big part
00:33:19of Harry's identity
00:33:20post-military.
00:33:22Prince Harry
00:33:23talks about,
00:33:24in spare,
00:33:25seeing these
00:33:25soldiers and thinking
00:33:27what can I do?
00:33:28What can I do
00:33:29to help them?
00:33:30And that birthed
00:33:32the Invictus Games.
00:33:33So Harry decided
00:33:34to use the healing
00:33:35power of sport
00:33:36to rehabilitate
00:33:37wounded soldiers.
00:33:40But by now
00:33:41Prince Harry
00:33:42was in his 30s
00:33:43and there was
00:33:44much talk
00:33:44and speculation
00:33:45in the nation's
00:33:46press of who
00:33:47he might be dating
00:33:48and when he
00:33:49would settle down.
00:33:50It was always
00:33:52written about
00:33:52in the press
00:33:53whether he was
00:33:54going to get married,
00:33:55who he was dating.
00:33:57Every time
00:33:58he was pictured
00:33:58with a woman
00:33:59they were now
00:33:59the girlfriend
00:34:00and that pressure
00:34:00on that person
00:34:01was huge,
00:34:02was absolutely massive.
00:34:04The pressure
00:34:04on Prince Harry
00:34:05was huge as well.
00:34:06All his relationships
00:34:07ended up on the front
00:34:08page of the newspapers.
00:34:10It's no wonder
00:34:10he couldn't hold
00:34:11a relationship down.
00:34:13But eventually
00:34:14someone came along
00:34:15who wasn't scared off
00:34:16by the media intrusion.
00:34:18Meghan Markle
00:34:19was an actress.
00:34:20She was in the
00:34:21US drama Suits
00:34:22which filmed
00:34:23in Toronto.
00:34:24She was also
00:34:25an activist
00:34:26for women's issues.
00:34:27She worked
00:34:27with the UN.
00:34:28She was a lifestyle
00:34:29blogger.
00:34:30They met in 2016 now.
00:34:32Prince Harry
00:34:33saw Meghan Markle
00:34:35on social media.
00:34:36She was using
00:34:36some kind of filter
00:34:37and he thought
00:34:39yep, she's the one
00:34:40dog ears or not.
00:34:41So sent her a message.
00:34:43They set up
00:34:44a date in London
00:34:45and the rest
00:34:46as they say
00:34:46is history.
00:34:48After a year
00:34:49of secret dating
00:34:50in September 2017
00:34:52Harry and Meghan
00:34:53finally went public.
00:34:55The setting
00:34:56the Invictus Games.
00:34:59Clearly
00:35:00Harry and Meghan
00:35:00are so into each other
00:35:02but also so into
00:35:03the wheelchair tennis
00:35:04and I actually think
00:35:05it's really significant
00:35:06as well
00:35:07that Meghan and Harry
00:35:08chose this occasion
00:35:10for them to
00:35:11confirm their relationship
00:35:13so that she could
00:35:14support him
00:35:15at something
00:35:15that's so important to him.
00:35:18Just months later
00:35:19Harry and Meghan
00:35:20announced their engagement
00:35:21posing at Kensington Palace
00:35:23the ring
00:35:24designed by Harry himself.
00:35:27Then came an historic first.
00:35:30She was invited
00:35:31to Christmas at Sandringham
00:35:32an honour usually
00:35:34reserved for married royals.
00:35:35So here in this clip
00:35:37I focus on William
00:35:39talking to his brother Harry.
00:35:41I can clearly see
00:35:42that they are having
00:35:44quite a direct
00:35:45conversation
00:35:46because they're both
00:35:47looking at one another
00:35:48and through my analysing
00:35:51I believe that he says
00:35:54that he would like
00:35:55to chat with Harry
00:35:56some more
00:35:57and are you up for that?
00:35:59Harry nods
00:36:00in agreement
00:36:01and said yes
00:36:02it's the best deal.
00:36:04I don't know
00:36:05if this is just
00:36:05a comfortable way
00:36:07of how the brothers
00:36:08talk to each other.
00:36:10There's also
00:36:12a little bit of humour
00:36:13that's happening
00:36:14as they walk
00:36:15down the step
00:36:15as well
00:36:16and you can see
00:36:17William
00:36:18having a little laugh.
00:36:21He's referencing
00:36:21to something
00:36:22that's very Irish
00:36:24and he mentions it
00:36:26twice
00:36:26when he's speaking
00:36:28to Meghan
00:36:29in saying
00:36:31very Irish
00:36:32very Irish
00:36:34which I find
00:36:35quite comical
00:36:36because you can see
00:36:37he finds it funny too.
00:36:41I have absolutely
00:36:42no idea
00:36:43what he's talking about
00:36:45he clearly thinks
00:36:46he's being funny
00:36:46I don't know
00:36:47what is Irish
00:36:48maybe he's just
00:36:49desperate for a Guinness
00:36:50so he can get away
00:36:50from them all.
00:36:52Maybe he's making
00:36:53a little joke
00:36:53or something
00:36:54maybe they're looking
00:36:54forward to an Irish
00:36:55whiskey after lunch
00:36:56anything to get them
00:36:57through the service.
00:36:59On the 19th of May
00:37:002018
00:37:01Prince Harry
00:37:02and Meghan Markle
00:37:03married
00:37:04having barely been
00:37:05together for two years.
00:37:06In the months
00:37:07that followed
00:37:08the scrutiny
00:37:09was off the charts
00:37:10and every public
00:37:11appearance was analysed
00:37:13such as her
00:37:13Royal Balcony debut
00:37:14in June of 2018.
00:37:17Clearly
00:37:17Harry and Meghan
00:37:18are so into each other.
00:37:20Here we are
00:37:20at Meghan's
00:37:21first proper
00:37:23event
00:37:24as a member
00:37:25of the Royal Family
00:37:26after her wedding
00:37:28to Prince Harry.
00:37:30This is quite
00:37:31a busy scene
00:37:32for a lip reader.
00:37:33I wanted to focus
00:37:35just on Meghan
00:37:36and Harry
00:37:36on this occasion
00:37:38because I was aware
00:37:40that this was
00:37:40her first time
00:37:42on the balcony.
00:37:43I wanted to see
00:37:44how she was feeling.
00:37:47Harry is explaining
00:37:48to her
00:37:49what is going
00:37:50to happen
00:37:51and that the powers
00:37:52will be flying
00:37:53overhead.
00:37:54He uses
00:37:55this hand motion
00:37:56to demonstrate
00:37:58what they're going
00:37:59to be doing
00:38:00and repeats
00:38:02that twice
00:38:03to her
00:38:03and she acknowledged
00:38:04that saying
00:38:06OK.
00:38:07The lip readers
00:38:08have exposed
00:38:08him mansplaining
00:38:10to her
00:38:10what a fly past
00:38:11is.
00:38:12Is this Harry
00:38:13being too dumb
00:38:14to realise
00:38:14that Meghan
00:38:15knows that planes
00:38:16are in the air
00:38:17and as a member
00:38:18of the Royal Family
00:38:18you probably have
00:38:19to look at a few
00:38:20or is this Meghan
00:38:21playing dumb
00:38:22so that Harry
00:38:23feels like
00:38:23he's in charge?
00:38:25That won't last.
00:38:26The Royal Family
00:38:27is the greatest
00:38:28show on earth
00:38:29and many thought
00:38:30Meghan would take
00:38:31to it like
00:38:31a duck to water.
00:38:34A lot of it's
00:38:35performative.
00:38:36A lot of what
00:38:36we consume
00:38:36about the Royal Family
00:38:37is external,
00:38:39performed,
00:38:39not entirely sincere.
00:38:42Arguably that's
00:38:42an ideal world
00:38:43for a Hollywood actress
00:38:44but it's not
00:38:45if it's also
00:38:46intersecting
00:38:46with your real life.
00:38:48You know,
00:38:48they're not on
00:38:48a film set there.
00:38:49I think there's
00:38:50a bit of feeling
00:38:51there that Meghan
00:38:52isn't quite sure
00:38:53whether she's
00:38:53at work or at play.
00:38:55Thank you so much.
00:38:57Initially,
00:38:58the press warmed
00:38:59to Meghan
00:39:00and she seemed
00:39:01like a natural
00:39:01during their
00:39:02public appearances
00:39:03but after a honeymoon
00:39:04period,
00:39:05the press started
00:39:06to turn against her
00:39:07and negative stories
00:39:09were appearing
00:39:09about Harry
00:39:10marrying an older,
00:39:12divorced American
00:39:13actress,
00:39:14some outlets
00:39:15highlighting her
00:39:15biracial heritage
00:39:16and questioning
00:39:18her motives.
00:39:18There were also
00:39:19claims of her
00:39:20not adhering
00:39:21to royal protocol,
00:39:22particularly in her
00:39:23clothing choices
00:39:24and public appearances
00:39:26and perhaps
00:39:27most damaging
00:39:28were reports
00:39:29that she made
00:39:29Kate cry.
00:39:31Meghan Markle
00:39:32was made a villain
00:39:33by the British
00:39:34tabloid press.
00:39:35They wrote stories
00:39:36about her
00:39:37that were racist,
00:39:38that were misogynistic.
00:39:39They just didn't
00:39:40like the fact
00:39:40that she was biracial,
00:39:42that she was American,
00:39:44that she had been
00:39:45an actress,
00:39:46that she was divorced.
00:39:48But more and more
00:39:49sources from inside
00:39:50the palace walls
00:39:51were painting her
00:39:52in a bad light.
00:39:53All sorts of
00:39:54unrealistic expectations
00:39:55were laid at the feet
00:39:56of a woman
00:39:58who's about to also
00:39:59be dubbed
00:39:59Duchess Difficult.
00:40:01Meghan, hurry!
00:40:01Watch out!
00:40:03A lot of it's quite
00:40:05escalated quite quickly.
00:40:06Meghan and Kate
00:40:07aren't only ruffling
00:40:08each other's feathers
00:40:09but also then
00:40:10employees who feel
00:40:11that perhaps they're
00:40:12not being well handled
00:40:13at the same time
00:40:14as Meghan feels
00:40:14she's being misunderstood.
00:40:16You can see how very
00:40:17quickly it goes
00:40:18from zero to hot.
00:40:19Perhaps there's
00:40:20an intractability
00:40:20on both sides
00:40:21where neither side
00:40:23wants to meet the other.
00:40:25Probably, in fact,
00:40:26certainly the institution
00:40:27of royalty expected
00:40:28Meghan to do
00:40:29most of the adjusting
00:40:32and I don't think
00:40:33she was up for that.
00:40:35Harry and Meghan
00:40:36were becoming disgruntled
00:40:37and for the first time ever
00:40:39our lip readers
00:40:40can reveal
00:40:40what they think
00:40:41they said
00:40:42in a conversation
00:40:43at a remembrance service
00:40:44in 2018.
00:40:46Meghan leans in to Harry
00:40:48and I believe
00:40:49that she's saying
00:40:50take advantage
00:40:51of this situation
00:40:53and then she pauses
00:40:54and just looks around
00:40:56and turns back
00:40:57to Harry
00:40:57and he responds
00:40:59back to her
00:41:00and says
00:41:01today.
00:41:05This is utterly
00:41:07explosive
00:41:08and what the lip readers
00:41:10have uncovered here
00:41:10is, well,
00:41:11it's history
00:41:12a story in the making.
00:41:18Meghan's now directing
00:41:20the conversation
00:41:21in a way
00:41:22that she appears
00:41:24to be instructing him
00:41:26and she says to him
00:41:28do it tonight
00:41:29and she looks away
00:41:31as if she's visualising
00:41:33the scenario unfolding
00:41:35and she's processing
00:41:37what she just said.
00:41:39Harry leans in to Meghan
00:41:40and goes on to say
00:41:42you do realise
00:41:43that this is the end
00:41:46and Meghan responds
00:41:48yes, I do know.
00:41:53The conversation
00:41:54that they are having
00:41:55is really intriguing.
00:41:58When I think of what happened
00:41:58only a couple of years later
00:42:00they step back
00:42:00as working royals
00:42:01in 2021
00:42:02and this clip
00:42:03from 2018
00:42:05where they're talking about
00:42:07you know that this is the end
00:42:08let's do it tonight
00:42:10I wonder if those conversations
00:42:12have been going on
00:42:12since then.
00:42:15What we do know though
00:42:16is relations between Harry
00:42:18and Meghan
00:42:18and the rest of the royal family
00:42:20were starting to sour
00:42:21and it's even been reported
00:42:22that William and Harry
00:42:23were no longer
00:42:24on speaking terms
00:42:25within months
00:42:26of Harry's wedding
00:42:27to Meghan.
00:42:30Clearly the cracks
00:42:31had started to show here.
00:42:33We knew that they weren't
00:42:34getting on by this point
00:42:35but the press
00:42:36really fed into that
00:42:37fed into
00:42:38the brothers
00:42:38not getting on
00:42:39but also fed into
00:42:40pitting Kate and Meghan
00:42:42against each other.
00:42:44But they were still
00:42:44working royals
00:42:46and sometimes
00:42:47duty calls.
00:42:49God imagine
00:42:49like that relative
00:42:50that you just never
00:42:51ever want to see.
00:42:53Well normally
00:42:54you can just get away
00:42:54with it.
00:42:55You can just not
00:42:55attend that birthday
00:42:57or anything like that.
00:42:58When you are a royal
00:42:59you can't do that.
00:43:00Not only do you need
00:43:01to see those relatives
00:43:02quite often
00:43:03but you need to
00:43:05appear with them
00:43:05at things like
00:43:06the centenary
00:43:07of the RAF
00:43:07like the whole world's media
00:43:09actually looking at you.
00:43:12So William
00:43:13and Harry
00:43:14say hello
00:43:15to one another
00:43:15as you can see here
00:43:17right at the beginning
00:43:18and William
00:43:20actually says
00:43:21I'm happy that
00:43:22you're both attending
00:43:23and Harry responds
00:43:25of course.
00:43:26You can see
00:43:28that Harry
00:43:28displays a hesitation
00:43:30in his step
00:43:33indicating a possible
00:43:35internal reflection
00:43:37on William's comment
00:43:39or the broader
00:43:40situation.
00:43:41George VI
00:43:42was a founder
00:43:43of the RAF
00:43:44this is steeped
00:43:45kind of royal history
00:43:46and significance.
00:43:47100th anniversary
00:43:48really big deal
00:43:50important
00:43:51that both boys
00:43:53are there
00:43:53you've got them
00:43:54both in their
00:43:55number one uniforms.
00:43:57Kate looks awkward
00:43:59weirdly frumpy
00:44:00for Kate
00:44:01Harry's
00:44:02totally unrelaxed
00:44:03he's sort of edgy
00:44:04William is formally
00:44:06sort of
00:44:07pleased they're there
00:44:08the lit reader suggests
00:44:09he's sort of saying
00:44:09glad you made it
00:44:10that kind of thing
00:44:11it's kind of weird
00:44:12isn't that
00:44:13one sibling to another
00:44:14it's cringy
00:44:15but are we saying that
00:44:16because we now know
00:44:17what subsequently plays out
00:44:18and what is already
00:44:19playing out behind the scenes.
00:44:25on the 8th of January 2020
00:44:27Prince Harry and Meghan
00:44:29announced on Instagram
00:44:30their decision to step back
00:44:32as senior members
00:44:33of the British Royal Family.
00:44:35Prince Harry released a statement
00:44:36through Kensington Palace
00:44:38talking about
00:44:39the treatment that Meghan
00:44:41was subjected to
00:44:41particularly from the press
00:44:43and asking them to back down
00:44:44which they did not
00:44:46and so Prince Harry
00:44:47continued to support Meghan
00:44:48behind closed doors
00:44:49and ultimately
00:44:50I think that was a huge part
00:44:52in their decision
00:44:52why they decided to step back
00:44:55as working royals
00:44:56it was not just
00:44:57for Harry and Harry's well-being
00:44:59but for Meghan as well.
00:45:01The press dubbed it Megxit.
00:45:03Harry and Meghan moved to the US
00:45:04cut ties with the royal family
00:45:06then in March 2021
00:45:08in a bombshell interview with Oprah
00:45:11they discussed the fallout
00:45:12with the establishment
00:45:13and their reasons for leaving
00:45:15which was hugely damaging.
00:45:18They said that it was Kate
00:45:19that made Meghan cry
00:45:20and they accused the royal family
00:45:22of being racist.
00:45:24William was furious.
00:45:28Sir, have you spoken to your brother
00:45:30since the interview?
00:45:32I haven't spoken yet
00:45:33but I will do.
00:45:34And can you just let me know
00:45:35is the royal family
00:45:36a racist family, sir?
00:45:38No, we're very much not
00:45:39a racist family.
00:45:45At the July 2021 unveiling
00:45:47of a memorial statue
00:45:49of Princess Diana
00:45:50the warring brothers
00:45:51Prince William
00:45:52and Prince Harry
00:45:53are reunited.
00:45:54It's four months
00:45:55after Prince Harry
00:45:56and Meghan's Oprah interview
00:45:57and there are awkward smiles
00:45:59tense body language
00:46:00and our lip readers
00:46:02watching every move.
00:46:03When they enter the garden
00:46:06both of the boys said
00:46:08oh my
00:46:09and this is spectacular
00:46:11and I can see that
00:46:13the joy on their face
00:46:15and the way they said these words
00:46:18is the supplies
00:46:20that they were faced with.
00:46:23What's interesting
00:46:23about this unveiling
00:46:24is it's the birth date
00:46:26anniversary of Diana.
00:46:28they are her sons
00:46:30they commissioned this statue
00:46:32and there's something
00:46:34I think almost
00:46:35that is reflected back
00:46:36the awkwardness
00:46:38of this misfit
00:46:39kitsch Diana statue
00:46:41and it's picked up
00:46:43in this awkward relationship
00:46:45between the two brothers.
00:46:48This is just now
00:46:50small talk between the brothers
00:46:52because clearly
00:46:53William is absolutely furious
00:46:56with Harry
00:46:57but they've had to reunite
00:46:59for the unveiling
00:47:00of this statue.
00:47:02They're barely interacting
00:47:04with each other
00:47:05they're barely even
00:47:07looking at each other
00:47:08when one talks
00:47:10the other listens
00:47:12when the other talks
00:47:13the other listens
00:47:13they're not talking
00:47:14to each other at all
00:47:15they're just talking
00:47:16to other people
00:47:18it's really really tense.
00:47:22In a funny way
00:47:24the statue speaks to
00:47:26the complexity
00:47:28of the boys' relationship
00:47:29how misaligned
00:47:31it was by this stage
00:47:32they've fallen out
00:47:33we know that
00:47:34Harry's left
00:47:35we know that
00:47:36Mexit's happened
00:47:37we know that
00:47:37and
00:47:38they've gone and spilled
00:47:40all the beans
00:47:40on Oprah
00:47:41so it can't really
00:47:42get much worse
00:47:43and then they've got
00:47:44the statue to unveil.
00:47:47if posthumously
00:47:49somehow Diana
00:47:50could have been
00:47:51a balm
00:47:51it certainly wasn't
00:47:52going to be a balm
00:47:53speaking through
00:47:54this leaden
00:47:54clay-footed statue
00:47:55I mean it's god awful.
00:47:58Harry and William
00:48:00are standing
00:48:01on either side
00:48:02of the statue
00:48:03they're looking up
00:48:04at their mother
00:48:05and observing
00:48:06what they can see
00:48:07in front of them
00:48:09and Harry
00:48:10I believe
00:48:11that he's saying
00:48:12it's so surreal
00:48:13seeing her
00:48:15and William replied
00:48:16it is surreal.
00:48:19The reason it's surreal
00:48:20is because it doesn't
00:48:21look like her
00:48:22a statue that doesn't
00:48:24look anything like
00:48:25Diana
00:48:25and two
00:48:26warring brothers
00:48:28I mean hardly
00:48:29the legacy
00:48:30for the Queen of Hearts
00:48:31is it?
00:48:32Not even their mother
00:48:34could put an end
00:48:34to hostilities
00:48:35Prince Harry
00:48:36and his wife Meghan
00:48:37were determined
00:48:38to step away
00:48:39from royal life
00:48:39and they later
00:48:41betrayed several
00:48:42family secrets
00:48:42perhaps causing
00:48:44irreparable damage.
00:48:46Coming up
00:48:47Prince Harry
00:48:48feels isolated
00:48:49It's clear
00:48:50that the emotions
00:48:51of the day
00:48:52were absolutely
00:48:53on the surface
00:48:54What did Harry expect?
00:48:56And all hail
00:48:58Queen Camilla
00:48:58She's only been
00:49:00coronated for about
00:49:00five minutes
00:49:01and she's giving
00:49:01the orders
00:49:02on the balcony
00:49:02Brilliant.
00:49:12In September 2022
00:49:14news of the Queen's
00:49:16death
00:49:16threw the nation
00:49:17into a state
00:49:18of mourning.
00:49:19Queen Elizabeth II
00:49:20had died
00:49:21in September 2022
00:49:23and we'd had
00:49:24the Queen
00:49:24for so long
00:49:25it was all
00:49:26very unsettling
00:49:27for everyone
00:49:29that now
00:49:30our monarch
00:49:30was not there
00:49:31and for so long
00:49:33it was all
00:49:34everybody could
00:49:34talk about.
00:49:35A quarter of a million
00:49:36people went to see
00:49:38her lying in state
00:49:39and there was
00:49:4024 hour coverage
00:49:41then on the
00:49:4219th of September
00:49:43thousands lined the
00:49:45streets for her
00:49:45state funeral
00:49:46and millions watched
00:49:47the unfolding
00:49:48of the events
00:49:49from home.
00:49:50The nation had
00:49:51lost their Queen
00:49:52and although deep
00:49:53in grief
00:49:53duty called
00:49:55yet again
00:49:55for her first
00:49:56born son.
00:49:57We'd entered
00:49:58this period
00:49:59of the monarchy
00:50:00King Charles III
00:50:01had ascended
00:50:02to the throne
00:50:03no one quite knew
00:50:04what kind of monarch
00:50:05he was going to be
00:50:05he'd been in waiting
00:50:07for his entire life
00:50:0870 plus years.
00:50:10And as the monarchy
00:50:11began a new chapter
00:50:12it was now the turn
00:50:13of her son
00:50:14Charles
00:50:14to steady the ship.
00:50:16Charles was always
00:50:17going to be king
00:50:18so long as he
00:50:18outlived his mother
00:50:19the extent to which
00:50:20he was going to be
00:50:21a popular king
00:50:21a king that we liked
00:50:22a king that we embraced
00:50:23I don't know.
00:50:25King Charles' coronation
00:50:26would take place
00:50:27in May of 2023
00:50:28eight months
00:50:30after his mother's death.
00:50:31In the meantime
00:50:32just as he was
00:50:33getting to work
00:50:34shaping the royal family
00:50:35in his own image
00:50:36his son
00:50:37Prince Harry
00:50:38drops his biggest
00:50:39bombshell yet.
00:50:41After the Oprah interview
00:50:42Prince Harry
00:50:43went on to publish
00:50:44his memoir
00:50:45Spare
00:50:46in January of 2023.
00:50:48In this book
00:50:49he attacks everyone
00:50:50including the new
00:50:51Queen Camilla
00:50:52his father's wife.
00:50:54Harry shared
00:50:55lots of attention
00:50:56in his book Spare.
00:50:57The sons were
00:50:58none too pleased
00:50:59by their dad
00:50:59getting remarried
00:51:00they said
00:51:00don't remarry
00:51:01don't get married
00:51:01to Camilla.
00:51:02Harry labels her
00:51:03a villain
00:51:04and accuses her
00:51:05of sacrificing him
00:51:06for her own
00:51:07personal gain
00:51:08in press coverage.
00:51:10He feared she would
00:51:10become a wicked
00:51:11stepmother.
00:51:12Everyone was angry
00:51:13and shocked
00:51:14but Harry felt
00:51:15vindicated.
00:51:16It widened the rift
00:51:17between his brother
00:51:18Prince William
00:51:19and father
00:51:19soon to be crowned
00:51:21King Charles III.
00:51:22and raised questions
00:51:23over whether Prince Harry
00:51:24would even attend
00:51:25his father's coronation.
00:51:27In the end he did
00:51:28but as our lip readers
00:51:30can reveal
00:51:30for the first time
00:51:31perhaps the question
00:51:33Harry wanted answering
00:51:34was why some people
00:51:36weren't talking to him.
00:51:38After the end
00:51:38of the service
00:51:40the royal family
00:51:41the royal family
00:51:42head outside
00:51:43and they're waiting
00:51:44for their cars
00:51:45to arrive.
00:51:47Harry is visibly frustrated
00:51:51and he's confiding
00:51:54in Eugenie.
00:51:55I can tell that he's doing this
00:51:57because he's leaning in
00:51:58and he wants to tell her
00:52:00about how he's feeling
00:52:02and I believe that he's saying
00:52:04I've spent five hours
00:52:05with my dad
00:52:06in his office
00:52:07and not a friendly text
00:52:09from either
00:52:10and he looks so disappointed
00:52:13and so disillusioned
00:52:17with why no communication
00:52:19was sent to him.
00:52:21Prince Harry is possibly referring
00:52:24to his brother William
00:52:25and father King Charles.
00:52:27It's clear that the emotions
00:52:29of the day
00:52:29were absolutely on the surface.
00:52:32You know Prince Harry
00:52:32talking about sitting
00:52:34in his dad's office
00:52:35for five hours
00:52:36not getting a text
00:52:37from his brother
00:52:38or from his dad
00:52:40I think that's what
00:52:40he's implying
00:52:41when he's saying
00:52:41I haven't got a text
00:52:42from both of them
00:52:43why has nobody spoken to me?
00:52:45He clearly feels
00:52:46that he's being ignored
00:52:47by his dad and his brother
00:52:49and it emphasises
00:52:51the fact that Meghan
00:52:52isn't there.
00:52:52There is a vulnerability
00:52:54to Harry
00:52:55and I think
00:52:56there is also an awareness
00:52:57among that younger
00:52:58pack of royals
00:52:59that they are
00:53:01his softer landing
00:53:01he has reasonably
00:53:02good relations
00:53:03with Eugenie and Beatrice
00:53:05and we see him
00:53:06lean into those
00:53:07girls and their husbands
00:53:08to chat to them.
00:53:10Harry continues
00:53:11his conversation
00:53:12with Eugenie
00:53:13and he's questioning
00:53:15things
00:53:16and I believe
00:53:17at this point
00:53:18he's saying
00:53:19why hasn't anybody
00:53:21contacted me
00:53:22you know
00:53:23I was here
00:53:23and I was just
00:53:25sitting there
00:53:26Then he complains
00:53:27to Eugenie
00:53:28why has nobody
00:53:29contacted me
00:53:30I was near
00:53:31I was just
00:53:32sitting there
00:53:34Now of course
00:53:35no one's contacted you
00:53:37Harry
00:53:37because if they did
00:53:39you would complain
00:53:39about it endlessly
00:53:40What did Harry expect?
00:53:42you can't launch a series
00:53:44of broadsides
00:53:45and not feel it
00:53:46What I think
00:53:47is extraordinary
00:53:48is that Harry did come
00:53:49and I kind of take my hat off
00:53:51to the fact that he rocks up anyway
00:53:53there's a level of entitlement
00:53:54to Harry that is utterly
00:53:56extraordinary
00:53:56and only born there
00:53:58of a prince
00:53:58I reported on this event
00:54:00I was from a life position
00:54:02at Westminster Abbey
00:54:03we were looking for Prince Harry
00:54:05turning up
00:54:05there he is
00:54:06you know
00:54:06going in
00:54:07we saw him coming out
00:54:08and leave straight away
00:54:09but it's so fascinating
00:54:11now to have the lip readers
00:54:12insight
00:54:13into those conversations
00:54:15that we clearly can't see
00:54:16from our position
00:54:17and we can't hear them
00:54:22But King Charles
00:54:23had bigger things
00:54:24on his mind
00:54:24He had of course
00:54:26been anticipating this day
00:54:27for more than 70 years
00:54:30The coronation
00:54:31was a hugely
00:54:32significant moment
00:54:33for Charles
00:54:34because this
00:54:35is what he'd been waiting
00:54:36for his entire life
00:54:37this was his
00:54:38life's purpose
00:54:39coming to fruition
00:54:41He'd waited 70 years
00:54:43to be on the throne
00:54:44The images
00:54:46and the video
00:54:47of them
00:54:47on the balcony
00:54:48is absolutely iconic
00:54:50We haven't had a coronation
00:54:51in the United Kingdom
00:54:53for 70 years
00:54:59They are both engaging
00:55:01in a conversation
00:55:03and Charles
00:55:04doesn't want to get
00:55:05too close to Camilla
00:55:07because he's worried
00:55:08about his crown
00:55:09falling off
00:55:10and on clothes inspection
00:55:13when I analyse
00:55:14their conversation
00:55:16he actually says
00:55:17to Camilla
00:55:19don't get too close
00:55:21my crown might topple over
00:55:22and I don't want that
00:55:24to happen
00:55:25Can you imagine
00:55:26if his crown
00:55:27did topple over
00:55:28how that would make him feel
00:55:31or the viewers feel
00:55:32to be a great gasp
00:55:34in the crown
00:55:34I'm sure
00:55:35Now this clip
00:55:37is hilarious
00:55:38because it's exactly
00:55:39what you would expect
00:55:41to worry about
00:55:41if you were
00:55:42wearing a priceless crown
00:55:44Now if I was
00:55:45I'd worry about it
00:55:47falling off
00:55:47and killing someone below
00:55:49or falling off my head
00:55:50and damaging it
00:55:51well as it turns out
00:55:52what the lib readers
00:55:53have exposed
00:55:54that's exactly
00:55:55what King Charles
00:55:57and Queen Camilla
00:55:58were worrying about
00:55:59At this point
00:56:01in the video
00:56:02Charles actually says
00:56:03to Camilla
00:56:05he is terrified
00:56:06of his crown
00:56:08falling off
00:56:09and he makes it known
00:56:10to her
00:56:11that he feels
00:56:12slightly uncomfortable
00:56:13and I think this is
00:56:14because the crowns
00:56:15are incredibly heavy
00:56:16and weighty
00:56:18on their shoulders
00:56:19it's cold
00:56:20it's wet
00:56:21he's wearing
00:56:21uncomfortable clothes
00:56:22for goodness sake
00:56:23he's wearing
00:56:23an ermine gown
00:56:24and probably isn't
00:56:26as warm as it looks
00:56:27and he's wearing
00:56:28a one kilogram plus
00:56:29crown on his head
00:56:31uneasy
00:56:32is the head
00:56:33that wears the crown
00:56:34he can't wait
00:56:35to shuffle off stage
00:56:36off the balcony
00:56:37into the palace
00:56:39Camilla also says
00:56:41that she's terrified
00:56:41of it dropping off her head
00:56:43and you actually see her
00:56:44as well
00:56:45telling the page boys
00:56:46come on quickly
00:56:47quickly quickly
00:56:47she wants them
00:56:49to all get in place
00:56:50she wants that photo taken
00:56:52because
00:56:53well she's probably
00:56:53in a little bit of pain
00:56:55because it's so heavy
00:56:57she's also showing
00:56:58that she's quite taken
00:57:00to the role of queen
00:57:01very very easily
00:57:02she's only been coronated
00:57:03for about five minutes
00:57:04and she's giving the orders
00:57:05on the balcony
00:57:06brilliant
00:57:07this exchange
00:57:08really humanises
00:57:09the king and the queen
00:57:10the lip reader
00:57:11really gives us
00:57:12some really lovely insight
00:57:13into things that
00:57:15probably we were thinking
00:57:16as well
00:57:16into these little funny moments
00:57:17in what's such a grand occasion
00:57:20with so much
00:57:21pomp and pageantry
00:57:22it really humanises it
00:57:24that you know
00:57:25I'd be worried about
00:57:26losing my crown as well
00:57:27with all the commotion
00:57:28the newly crowned
00:57:30king and queen
00:57:30almost forgot what happens
00:57:32nearly every time
00:57:33they step out
00:57:34onto that balcony
00:57:35a fly past
00:57:36child is talking about
00:57:38perhaps
00:57:39he wants to go in
00:57:41at this point
00:57:42he lets the queen know
00:57:44that he wants
00:57:45he's ready to go back inside
00:57:46he's feeling
00:57:48ready to go back in
00:57:50the TV moves over
00:57:52to Louis
00:57:52who spots that
00:57:54there's something in the sky
00:57:55and says
00:57:55look what's that
00:57:58he says
00:57:58oh I don't want to miss this
00:58:00but he knows
00:58:02that he can't lift his head back
00:58:03because he's worried about his crown
00:58:06but nevertheless
00:58:07he waits
00:58:08until the fly past
00:58:09has gone over
00:58:10and he laughs
00:58:12he's happy
00:58:12and they wait
00:58:14once again
00:58:15and he says
00:58:16I'm done
00:58:18coming up
00:58:19coming up
00:58:20an emotional king
00:58:21puts duty first
00:58:22it makes me feel emotional
00:58:24and I don't know why
00:58:26and after a grueling year
00:58:28the family joins forces
00:58:38the royals have dominated our headlines for decades
00:58:41but on the 5th of February 2024
00:58:44came a news flash that shocked the nation
00:58:47King Charles announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer
00:58:51it was never going to be easy
00:58:52because he arrived to kingship in the last quarter of his life
00:58:56so that's a challenge
00:58:58he also arrived as his own son was imploding on the other side of the Atlantic
00:59:02so that's the second challenge
00:59:03but then are the very real issues around particular and acute health matters
00:59:10he is diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer
00:59:14first of all it's an investigation into his prostate
00:59:17but then we discover that it's actually cancer for which he requires treatment
00:59:21definitely the biggest challenge that King Charles III has faced in his reign
00:59:26is his battle with cancer
00:59:31King Charles was only months into his reign
00:59:34he hadn't really had much time to make much of an impact
00:59:37all of a sudden he had to rest and recuperate
00:59:40and have cancer treatment
00:59:42hugely disappointing and difficult for him
00:59:45someone who loves to work and loves to be out there
00:59:48and be amongst the people
00:59:50then in March 2024
00:59:52it was announced the royal family had received more bad news
00:59:56during this time the Princess of Wales was also ill
01:00:00and the Prince of Wales was supporting his family
01:00:04in a poignant video message
01:00:06Kate explained that after having abdominal surgery
01:00:09tests found cancer had been present
01:00:11it was not disclosed what type of cancer
01:00:14but Kensington Palace said it is confident the princess will make a full recovery
01:00:19his daughter-in-law really the linchpin of the younger our family
01:00:23is also undergoing cancer treatment
01:00:25so these are sort of body blows for the royal family
01:00:28if we take the family and its health as a metaphor for the nation
01:00:31all is not looking good
01:00:33Kate stepped back from public appearances altogether
01:00:36while she received treatment
01:00:38but in April 2024
01:00:40it was announced that the King would return to his duties
01:00:43after a period of recuperation
01:00:45How are you feeling?
01:00:46and for the first time
01:00:48we can find out what he might have said
01:00:50when he thought no one was listening
01:00:51Charles never exclusively disappears
01:00:54he sort of potters about
01:00:55and occasionally says hello to hospital staff and so forth
01:00:57this footage takes us right back to the fact that
01:01:00Charles is just a man
01:01:02and has been incredibly ill
01:01:05he has gone through an incredible journey
01:01:09when it comes to his illness
01:01:10but it is indicative of how unwell the King is
01:01:15that he is in a carriage and not on horseback
01:01:17because traditionally at the trooping
01:01:18the King takes the salute
01:01:20there is the trooping of his colours
01:01:24it is the trooping of the colour in June 2024
01:01:26and our forensic lip readers are able to tell us
01:01:30what they believe the King was saying
01:01:33Queen Camilla senses Charles' emotional state
01:01:37and she says are you absolutely certain
01:01:40and Charles responds
01:01:42he makes a subtle hand gesture
01:01:45which appears to reinforce his own determination
01:01:49as he replies
01:01:51he says I'll get through today
01:01:54it makes me feel emotional
01:01:56and I don't know why
01:01:58at this point he uses his hand to wipe away
01:02:01perhaps a tear from his eye
01:02:03I can see on close inspection
01:02:06that his eyes are quite red
01:02:08and he does look quite tearful
01:02:11this cliff is so significant for a number of reasons
01:02:14so this was the first trooping the colour
01:02:16that we'd had since King Charles III
01:02:18had his cancer diagnosis
01:02:20now he usually rides on horseback
01:02:22during trooping the colour
01:02:24but he'd been advised to ride in a carriage this time around
01:02:27it was completely unexpected
01:02:29I wasn't expecting such an emotion
01:02:33to come from Charles at this time
01:02:36and he's sitting in the carriage with Camilla
01:02:40and they have a very private intimate conversation
01:02:45about how he's feeling
01:02:47I'd never really seen him behave emotionally like that
01:02:52in public before
01:02:54he even says I have mixed feelings
01:02:58it makes me feel really emotional
01:03:00I don't know why
01:03:01Camilla asking before that
01:03:03are you certain
01:03:04perhaps checking that he's okay
01:03:06those mixed emotions must surely be joy and honour
01:03:10at having this amazing state occasion for him
01:03:14but also a profound sense of achievement
01:03:18because he's managed to get there despite his illness
01:03:21this clip really humanises him
01:03:23health is a great leveller
01:03:25it really causes introspection
01:03:28really gets you to look at yourself
01:03:30and think about your life
01:03:31and I think the lit reader gives us some insights
01:03:34into how emotional the past six months have been
01:03:37and how emotional it was for him to be there in that moment
01:03:43he's a more sympathetic figure than he was Charles
01:03:45and it was always going to be that way
01:03:49in the twilight of his life
01:03:51he becomes something of a national treasure
01:03:52if you keep going in the face of adversity
01:03:54which is exactly what he's done
01:03:55and I think the Trooping was an example of that
01:03:57this is the real juxtaposition of him being a king
01:04:03but also being a man
01:04:05and those two worlds collided
01:04:07at the same Trooping of the Colour in June 2024
01:04:11Kate made her first public appearance in six months
01:04:14after it was announced he was receiving treatment for cancer
01:04:18it's the first time Kate's been in public since her cancer diagnosis
01:04:24and it holds quite a significance for them
01:04:28Charles is engaging with Kate again
01:04:32but Kate is wanting to engage with her children
01:04:37at this point when the planes have flown over
01:04:40she says to Louis
01:04:42wow
01:04:44wow did you enjoy that
01:04:47Kate and William immediately go into mum and dad mode then
01:04:50can you see it
01:04:51oh they're coming round again
01:04:52you know did you enjoy it
01:04:53all of those sorts of things they're saying
01:04:55to make it a special moment for their children
01:04:58they must have seen a million flypasts
01:05:00flypasts must be as dull as ditch water to them now
01:05:04but they're not letting that get to them
01:05:06they are making themselves enthusiastic about it
01:05:09and they're trying to make that flypast really special for their children
01:05:14so it's a really interesting juxtaposition between the public duty
01:05:19and the private parenting
01:05:21and then I love the most though
01:05:22then at the end Camilla's like
01:05:23well what
01:05:24flypast
01:05:26what was going on
01:05:27Camilla's missed the whole lot
01:05:28she's just you know completely oblivious to all of this going on
01:05:32so it's hilarious and poignant on loads of levels
01:05:38they are going to bridge the gap that's going to take the royal family forward
01:05:42the royal family exists because of the people
01:05:45the people are going to have to still buy into them
01:05:48for them to maintain their popularity
01:05:50and Kate and William are key to that
01:05:52the royal establishment has been the focus of our attention for centuries
01:05:56and Kate, William and their children will hope to serve the people for many decades to come
01:06:03but thanks to our team of forensic lip readers
01:06:05we might have been able to see and hear them like never before
01:06:09it's been a perfect day
01:06:11my face hurts from smiling so much
01:06:13it's just so amazing what the lip readers have given us
01:06:15this insight into the conversation going on
01:06:18we've never known what they were saying to each other
01:06:21it's amazing to get a completely new perspective
01:06:24we've watched them for years
01:06:26and now for the first time ever
01:06:28perhaps we've heard some of their most intimate conversations
01:06:31but what will they say next?
