Nepal’s aviation industry has been hit by a historic fuel price shock. Jet fuel prices have surged to record levels after global energy costs spiked due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

For international airlines, aviation turbine fuel has jumped more than 77%, reaching an all-time high in Kathmandu. Domestic carriers are facing an even steeper impact, with fuel prices nearly doubling.

This sudden increase is already pushing airfares higher across Nepal. On the Kathmandu–Dhangadhi route, ticket prices have climbed sharply as fuel surcharges surged. Even the country’s shortest routes are seeing noticeable fare increases.

Airline operators warn the timing could not be worse. The hike comes during peak tourist season, when many flights were already sold in advance. With most aviation expenses tied to the US dollar, airlines now face rising operational costs and potential losses.

As global fuel prices continue to climb, travelers in Nepal may need to prepare for more expensive flights in the coming months.
