00:00A major development has taken place at National League side Woking, where former England and Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe has
00:10been appointed as the club's new head coach.
00:15The 43-year-old takes on his first permanent managerial position after building experience in coaching, including a spell with
00:27Rangers FC in 2021 as part of an interim set-up and working within the academy system at his former
00:37club Tottenham Hotspur as well.
00:41You know, I don't want to obviously sit there and say, right, we need to achieve this or we need
00:44to achieve that. Of course, we're ambitious people. You know, I'm someone who loves football. You know, I want to
00:50do well. You know, the main sort of objective is, of course, to get promoted.
00:54You know, and I think with the players that we've got, you know, some good players here, some top players,
01:00the games that I've watched, I've been really impressed.
01:02And I believe that me and my coaching staff, I think that we can go to the next level. But
01:08you have to be confident. I think you always have to back yourself, whether you're a player or a manager
01:11or a coach.
01:12I still get that same feeling. I remember as a young kid, you know, getting up on a Saturday morning,
01:17waking my mum up probably two hours early before she needs to get up.
01:21And that feeling you get in the morning, you know, before a game and like I said, and the years
01:26go on and you still have that same feeling in the back end of my career.
01:29And then you go into coaching and you still get that same feeling, putting your boots on and planning the
01:32session, delivering the session, speaking to the players after.
01:34You know, players getting that feedback from the players, how much they've enjoyed the session and going into the game.
01:39And you can see the patterns that you've worked on and actually winning football matches. There's nothing like it.
