00:04on sale this week the lovely car look the Albus TE21 what a fantastic looking car
00:11this is a car to be proud of British engineer at the best down the road
00:18whizzing along it's lovely ain't she what a majestic old girl 1971 little Morris
00:24camper van there no matter what people say that you can't get away from the
00:28main purpose of converting a van like this is it doubled up as everyday
00:33transport so 1967 triumph there look at that 650 triumph what a bonnie machine as
00:40well he actually went to buy a greenhouse came back with the greenhouse stacked in
00:45the pickup and this this motorcycle beside the greenhouse and that's that's the
00:49type of thing he used to do he just used to sniff them out they're not unbelievable
00:56really the Matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers the joys of an
01:04auction most people will go to a sale with something in mind would come away with
01:08something different the fun is the chase you just don't know what's on the end of
01:14the phone what you're gonna find when you open them doors this is a family's love
01:18affair with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people will buy a
01:23car because they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams
01:28right here we go
01:40got them the wrong way around mate got them the wrong way around that one let's go on that one
01:46it's another day of comings and goings and with the workers hard at it Derek's found the perfect
01:52excuse to escape tempting him today a 60-year-old Alvis te 21 perfectly frank I've always wanted one
02:02they're like an upmarket mark 2 jag if you like or you know maybe a slightly down market or
02:09left desirable aston martin they're that in that ilk
02:18i've sold a few cars in my time i wish i'd got a pound for everyone uh i'd be living
02:23somewhere warm
02:24over in staffordshire martin anchor has returned to his salesman's roots when you're showing somebody
02:31around a motor car they always want to go to the driver's door they want to sit in the car
02:35you keep
02:36them away from that as long as possible martin sold cars for 60 years now he's doing a job on
02:42his
02:421965 alvis beautifully designed vehicle i have added since i've owned the car the chrome wire wheels
02:50it had the steel wire wheels but i think the chrome wire wheels give it a little bit more character
02:56the car is fitted with a sunshine roof we have two very nice wide easy access doors
03:08presenting a very smart interior duke of edinburgh owned an alvis te convertible come on alfie he thinks
03:17he's going out for the day nice twin exhaust pipes but the back of the motor car again very stylish
03:25this is in my opinion anyway i'm biased i suppose we're now getting to the exciting part you've shown
03:32the person the benefits of the motor car as you've taken them around and the styling of the car and
03:37the reasons why things are done um they're now very anxious to get into the driving seat so you've now
03:45got that person basically in your hand you can control what they want to do
03:51so it's like having derrick here
03:56we've got a beautiful walnut dashboard um all the instruments there you've got rev counter speedometer
04:04oil pressure gauge water temperature gauge fuel gauge etc all the necessary equipment you need it's subtle
04:11stylish i recommend you go and buy one this is the ideal car for you have you bought your checkbook
04:24it'll be a wrench for martin to sell the car which was left in by his late stepfather douglas
04:31her name is the duchess douglas always described always i'll take the duchess out today
04:38so you know it is a member of the family but time has to come when it's got to go
04:45sadly
04:47and of course any prospective buyer would like to see the engine
04:53got rid of all the pot it releases
04:58how long you had it for 30 bloody years
05:05i've just sat in the seat put my hands straight on it
05:17was it worth the wait of course because you never have to open the bonnet on ours
05:23it's such a wonderful reliable car so that's the reason why
05:28oh well there we are beautiful three litre six cylinder alvis engine lovely straight 130 odd brake
05:39horse engine twin s show carburetors all the equipment that you require for a very very nice
05:45motor car with four wheeled don't knock disc brakes we'll drive quickly we'll stop quickly
05:54sadly i'll shed a few tears talking to her in the workshops but she's going to have to go somebody
06:01else will enjoy that motor car and continue with it and because it is a car to be proud of
06:08it knows british engineering at the best
06:20we've got back hang on a minute check front of the lorry
06:26okay we're all right we've still got a bonnet and a grill and that yeah
06:30he's all right it looks like charlie's getting the hang of this collection lark
06:35hang on hang on hang on hang on that's just tight it's tight look at that that's best bit that
06:42look
06:43at that bumpers safer than car i remember when his granddad used to come in he used to run out
06:49see how many clicks he could get to be better tight the tight the tight one he's picked up a
06:561963 mark
06:57one ford cortina deluxe that's been stored in a melton mowbray lockup for a decade hey she's a level
07:04old car charlie i think it's a straight genuine old thing a two-door cortina obviously you don't
07:11see him on every street corner do you so i think it's kept really really well obviously there's
07:16bits around it and but you can see where it's being damp look cross bottom of the door and that
07:20so
07:21to be fair i think he's caught it about at the right time if it had been in there another
07:2410 years
07:25then it may be maybe be a different story wouldn't it gives a shove
07:33that's it that'll do
07:45oh me and amy are on top of the job of bike collections now aren't we yeah
07:48yeah in and out don't even know where we've been it's another beautiful day in yorkshire
07:54but that won't deter matthewson's top motorcycle sibling collection team
08:01we are going to bishop parkland for quite a varied collection of bikes i'm led to believe
08:06ajfc so a nice variant of different motorbikes that should be good so yeah that should be a good one
08:11hopefully as long as amy keeps me right on the on the maps
08:15while the matthewsons risk a soaking see you soon see you later oh 60 miles away in county durham the
08:23weather's taken a turn for the better and the remnants of a 20-strong motorbike collection
08:28are waiting to be picked up it's part of his collections that some of the motorbikes have
08:33already been sold and this is we have five left four here and one up in his motorbike shed
08:41nigel henderson is moving on the last of his dad's bikes and cars
08:46alan died three years ago and by all accounts loved a bargain
08:55so that particular one um i remember one day he went to buy a seat for it and came back
09:02with two
09:02cars and no seat that's the sort of that's the sort of thing he would do um another time he
09:09went to get
09:10the seat for it and came back with another two motorbikes so everything was a project so in the
09:16summer months he used to uh mess on with his cars and his and his vintage pickup and in the
09:22winter
09:22months he would lock himself away in his motorbike shed um and do his motorbikes up so everything was a
09:29ongoing project some taken absolutely years amongst the hall there's a royal enfield in bits a pair of
09:37triumphs and a 1960 ajs 250 he actually went to buy a greenhouse came back with the greenhouse
09:45stacked in the pickup and this this motorcycle beside the green house and that's that's the
09:50type of thing he used to do he just used to sniff them out they're unbelievable really
09:55it's a similar story with the 1965 norton so he'd only gone for the paper and then the next thing
10:02you know he's this arrives daughters alison and fiona have seen it all before all these bikes here he
10:11used to share with people and dev would always have to take them and to show his bikes and his
10:17cars and
10:17that wasn't he wasn't boston he always had a story to tell them he had a love for life he
10:23absolutely
10:24loved life every morning and he would get up and he'd be looking for another project and something else to
10:30do also going to the auction at a later date are a couple of mercs an f reg sel and
10:37a 1967 2.8 litre
10:40six-cylinder pagoda this was his pride and joy he he's had it nearly 50 years um probably been out
10:48in
10:48all that time twice in the rain on a sunday he would go up to barnet castle about 15 miles
10:54away get an ice
10:55cream sit and look at it sit on the bench look at his car drive it back home he'd be
11:00on his hands and
11:01knees and he'd be shoe polishing everybody back in the day would show polish the tires like this but
11:07he'd be laid on his back doing inside an absolute fanatic um absolutely loved it initially we didn't
11:16want to sell anything and i wanted to keep everything you know but there's only so much stuff you can
11:23keep
11:23isn't it and if the next chapter is as good as the chapters before we're on to a winner
11:49now martin lovely to see you likewise to see you mate nice to see you all right lovely little spot
11:57here nice little place you got here isn't it well it's not bad big shed all got a big workshops
12:03yes
12:03way around there all day long can't you me bang on hey derek's landed in staffordshire to pick up martin
12:09anchor's 60 year old alvis but as always he's tempted by what else might be on offer i've got a
12:17bmc car
12:17in there that don't leak oil really well you drained it out of you it's well it's a morris thousand
12:24it's i reckon it's the only one in bloody prison it is the only one in captivity well exactly yeah
12:29yeah nice of it yeah what do you reckon that's worth um got a soft spot for them i think
12:37they're
12:37great like you know and a nice one like that would do 10 grand wouldn't it yeah but eyes are
12:41soon back on
12:42the main attraction a 1965 alvis te in light metallic gold how long you had this since 1996 oh my
12:52word
12:53have you it's been in the family since 1969 a long time in it bloody hell they got overdrive on
13:00this
13:00no it's got five speed zf box of course it has absolutely yeah you're just testing me aren't you
13:06yeah no i forgot it's got a zed eh nice isn't it if i hadn't been an aston man i'd
13:13have had one of
13:13these um all right we won't mess about what do you reckon i should put as a reserve price on
13:20that
13:21oh you won't like this all i can tell you is what i know it's worth what you reckon it's
13:28worth 20 grand
13:31what you put on it it's entirely up to you but if it went for 20 derek i'd be satisfied
13:39yeah so it's money in it yeah and if somebody wants to give me 30k for the number plate they
13:44can buy it as well i thought they'd put it more than that to be honest i think that's value
13:49for money
13:50nice car yes all right yeah it's um you've got to make allowances for an alvis
13:55you have because there's so many poor ones out there but when you come across the nice ones
14:00a bit of a novelty i mean it's not a minter not a concourse but it's pretty good
14:07steeped in history mate yeah can't buy that i am sorry i'm sad to see it go you feel it
14:14mate don't
14:14you yeah you know where you're going i've loved this car it's been a super car yeah i've had
14:20hundreds of cars in my lifetime in the motor trade and i've never been emotional about a motor
14:26car before no no oh my god ah that will it be all right driving one of these posh cars
14:37sweet old girl isn't it smooth as silk
14:45powerful old cars smooth and powerful and i hope you haven't been bored stiff to all congers
14:54ticked over up there just beautiful can't beat horsepower can you you cannot be
15:00you've got to go to somebody that'll love that car because it's well you've just
15:04stripped it and i think you've enjoyed it go on derek don't prolong the agony
15:12bye baby
15:20and i could drive it yeah yeah not bad
15:26the old cortina still badged as a console
15:30yeah that sort of crossover period didn't they yeah no funny isn't it yeah for the console before
15:35they went full bore cortina lurking in the showroom the dusty ford that charlie brought in from melton
15:42mowbray the appeal of that is what the amount of doors it's got all the amount of doors it hasn't
15:48got
15:49it's not great bless her but she's so genuine she's been in the garage for 30 odd years or something
15:54getting it i was lucky enough to have a lotus cortina mark one and i made the decision to sell
16:00it yeah i lost a little bit on that one of mine just proved you can't win on everything they
16:05were
16:05achieving in excess of 50 000 at one point 40-ish now they all want two doors four door half
16:13the
16:14price more equals less i know she's got some paint issues and bits and pieces i get that but
16:19little lump there look little sweetie i think that car will achieve somewhere between three and
16:27a half and four thousand pounds which seems incredibly good value to me yeah but if it was a
16:33four door a couple of grand for a four door and if you were talking lotus twin cam ah yeah
16:40a
16:41lotus twin cam in that condition there wanting a bit of work is still yeah it'll still push 30 grand
16:47crazy isn't it really ford cortina deluxe there we are look two door cortina that's the one that ah
16:58yeah i picked it up been stood for about 20 i believe but 10 in the lockup that i got
17:04it out of
17:05so nice early two door cortina look we got 3500 pounds and we're off it's been stood in a nice
17:11dry
17:11garage which is the best thing at three thousand seven hundred pounds here with me three eight
17:16it will make the car it should do more money than that really we will try at three nine i
17:22should
17:22think so at four thousand pounds then at four thousand four one four two at four thousand three
17:29hundred still provisional but we will try provisional norfolk at four three thank you i wasn't far
17:35up far enough i don't quite know whether it was over reserved it was all the way let's put it
17:41that
17:41way and yeah they had a five thousand pound reserve and the best bidder the day i could get was
17:47four
17:47three uh which has been accepted so uh right decision rightly so yes i think that's its money
17:53simple as that so uh away it goes here we go look do do do do oh blimey oh he
18:15likes his mercs
18:16there you go hello you all right you all right yeah yeah nice to meet you nigel yeah nice to
18:21meet
18:22jack jack and amy had made it to county durham to pick up the henderson family's motorbikes
18:28oh wow you've got a fair collection of bits and pieces aren't you nigel i had a good collection
18:33there's a there's a few gone now but uh this is what we've got left these were all his then
18:38were they
18:38yeah he he had a few more but we've you know we've sold them and then there's another one in
18:43bits that
18:44he's been doing up for the last 18 years everything's everything's a long-term project
18:50yeah i think do i spend the money on restoring that or do i go and buy another one to
18:56go with
18:57it yeah so that's that's the story i know where'd you stop the bike market is a bit low at
19:02the moment
19:03yeah um it's certainly a buyer's market but it has sort of increased to be fair they did really die
19:08off
19:08for a couple of months but i suppose the sun's out now isn't it that's right so um obviously we'll
19:13try
19:13best for you a little butcher's bike i'll sneak in first in the corner this is clean isn't it
19:17he's finishing off a nice little bike isn't it he's so well yeah grandad buys him a lot as well
19:23yeah
19:28i feel that he's with us watching these bikes go nine times out of ten i'd say us office girls
19:36the
19:36rest of them don't really get out but um but no it's just nice to see where they actually come
19:40from
19:41um and the story behind them and then obviously we see the other side of it as well um after
19:46they've sold and where they're going to you know i'm gonna have to start taking all the girls out
19:50with me you're gonna have to do one at a time i'm gonna have to just keep changing passengers every
19:54month aren't i and then the ones that give you the wrong direction don't take them again
20:00nice to meet you all right thank you thank you very much thank you safe journey home thanks bye
20:08bye
20:27the sun's shining and north yorkshire's looking its best
20:33the good weather's also brought the browsers out and derrick's homed in on a vehicle that for
20:38around eight grand has got holidays written all over it here we have basically it's an austin a60 van
20:48bags as a morris which is fine this is 71 72 as we can see it's a two-berth caravan
20:55net conversion
20:56it tickles me a bit really when you when you talk to people and they say
21:00i'm gonna have one of them new style pop-up roofs and fit it into me day van for argument's
21:05sake
21:05and i have to laugh because here we are 1970 and basically the same thing but better so it's not
21:13a
21:13pop-up roof it's an elevating roof this was the era when britain's post-war workers had spare time
21:21and cash to splash van makers like bedford and comma tapped into that as the country had its first
21:28camper van moment full height means you can stand up of course both ends rather than just one end no
21:34matter what people say that you can't get away from the main purpose of converting a van like this is
21:40it doubled up as everyday transport and with a top down it went into an everyday garage that's the big
21:57garage
21:58oh dear no it'd be like something out of carry-on camping wouldn't it pulling up on the campsite with
22:03that there's a little rail look you can hang your tea towel on it to dry when you've washed up
22:09what
22:09is that paul that 1971 morris oh lovely innit an a60 is it is it lovely yeah oh right
22:17it's a little early camper innit lovely lovely it's uh yeah no you're not seeing it you know i think
22:24she might be more of a five-star girl do you think so what the group or the hotel
22:32but it's got a bench seat so you could possibly fit three of you in there
22:35small people that would be to take the water in look and then that's for you for your petrol
22:40is that what it is paul is it is it yeah yeah it will be on it yeah yeah i
22:44would think that way
22:45around as well yeah you don't want to mix them up do you no no we've just very nice brushing
22:50your
22:50teeth with petrol would it perhaps they'd be clean uh 509 the 1971 morris there little morris
23:01camper van there well you know a bit about these oh no there you are there we are you think
23:06i'd fit in
23:08that sun talk sun saw there we are no not familiar where are we you tell me anyone want to
23:14start me
23:14then five thousand pound asking anything on there will no i'm afraid i've got nothing on my sheet on
23:22this one no so no only if you're paying
23:30sorry about that that's it for the motorhome and with no interest it returned to its owner for a
23:37proper staycation alvis you want me to go and have a look at this alvis don't you it looks a
23:49real
23:49genuine old car though doesn't it i like bits like this right attention to detail isn't it just lovely
23:54it they're lovely old girl aren't they they're good usable old car there's a kink there there's
24:02micro blistering here there's micro blistering everywhere really now we've all had micro blistering
24:09and it's gutting yeah moisture in the in either in or under the paint um because it won't show straight
24:17away you see they're lovely for a while and then they start and come to light and you think oh
24:24but let's be honest down the road whizzing along it's lovely ain't she what a majestic old girl
24:33alvis is one of the great and almost forgotten names of british car manufacturing
24:40but back in the day its vehicles set the standard for sporting excellence
24:45alvis also made airplane engines and armored cars but it was the glamorous tourists that captured the
24:50imagination made to the highest levels of luxury to rival bentley and jaguar the t21 series set the
24:58tone with its three liter engines adding speed and panache but as the 1960s rolled on sales dropped
25:05and the company was taken over by rover however in recent years the brand has been revived and the high
25:11high spec tradition continues in my opinion that car there in that condition is worth late teens 20 if
25:26he's lucky lucky i can't see it lots of people that come into the classic movement all think they want
25:33a
25:33jag or an alvis or a whatever and in my opinion got it all wrong buy yourself a morris thousand
25:41there's
25:41one there look morris thousand mgb try it feral maybe but certainly morris thousand mgb
25:49the cheapest classic car in the world to run to maintain super reliable brilliant and then if it's
25:56for you then move on to the alvis and and you mark my words whoever has entered it whoever is
26:03selling
26:03it vendor best thing he can do buy himself a morris thousand it is honestly funny you say that because
26:10he has got a morris traveller there you go there you go yep brilliant i was right then one i
26:19hey look
26:19at that that's twice this week i've been right twice yeah so so that's my take on it yeah start
26:28off with
26:28a moggy finish off with a moggy brilliant and have everything else in between including the alvis
26:35so it's a nice old cat she's all right
26:38all right she's yours the bishop opened bikes are back and there's a reception committee
26:52sort of another bike for you to go in with all the other bikes good a bit loan bikes we
26:58can do with a
26:59a few more how many bikes have you got in 71 how many more do you want last year 140
27:12it's quite interesting really if you think about it i mean it's got
27:17the uh the shockers always have clearly been in the sea for a few years haven't they there's no doubt
27:21about that uh and it's a royal enfield single 350 500 i don't know what and having joined the throng
27:30derrick's on the case it's a winter project that's it which winter is debatable but it's
27:36one of a few winters probably as well as an ajs and a norton there's a pair of triumphs including
27:43a classic off-roader it's a little triumph cub a little 200 cub nice little trailer upswept exhaust
27:50really does look the part sooty's a trialing man he'll tell you more about this i would think
27:54he's probably trialed them you ever trailed a a cub no no no i've seen plenty enough yeah
28:01they're still popular they are popular in you know like pre-65 trails and stuff like that yeah
28:06yeah that's a nice little machine that actually and it's a right purposeful little bike isn't it
28:11pre-65 of course so it was pre-japanese who came over like they did with every other model
28:18of motorbike and wiped the floor with us unfortunately that's exactly what they did
28:22poor old cub never stood a chance though and the pick of the bunch a bike with great escape vibes
28:29it's a 650 that's a trophy and slightly different forks and rubber covers and stuff like that
28:35headlamps like this they just looked a little bit more i think they were maybe americanized
28:40built for the american market really because they do look they look like a steve mcqueen bike i
28:45think don't they you know it's got what the lads used to call a knacker catcher which was obviously
28:50it's a little rack to put your folded up mac and tie it on with a bungee and they said
28:55if you're unlucky
28:55enough and um went over the top you could easily get tangled up in there like you know but i
29:01think
29:01you'd have to get flies open at that time personally and i don't know many guys that drove
29:05rode these but they fly those flies open that but yeah yeah i think the answer was keep your flies
29:10shut and keep your fingers crossed that's uh that's i think so i think that'll do somewhere between
29:18three and a half and four and a half nice bike
29:24614 is the lovely triumph 1967 triumph there look at that 650 triumph what a bonnie machine as well
29:30at 3500 pound we've got at 3500 pound then are we all done at 35 submit it at 35. it's
29:39still
29:39provisional for the triumph 650 proving it's still a tricky market for old british bikes
29:47a 1960 ajs thousand pound cheap buy i'm going to sell it provisioning down a thousand pound
29:52bargain of the day that provisional norton jubilee she's a nice old bike makes a change in the

30:14pound that we all done 800 will submit it 1959 triumph trials bike there look at that that's a nice
30:20bit of
30:20it 13.50 13.75 at 13.75 then i'm going to drop the hammer then at 13.75 14.
30:28they have to be sharp
30:28he's going to lose it 1400 quid still the cheapest bike in the world at 14.25 14.25 then
30:35i'm going to
30:36sell the hammer's coming down at 14.25 sold too late missed it there you go which leaves one of
30:43derek's favorite forms of transport uh pushers spike uh tray's bike i used to ride one when i was 14
30:51or 15 don't you well i've done many miles on one of them fell off of a few times and
30:54all

31:04one 200 200 200 pound 250 iron brakes and a little wheel dead right 300 300 pound there's a little
31:11club being formed in york for them you know yeah i'm going to join it 300 pound 300 pound and

31:34last time looking around 350 hornsea and with offers for all the bikes now in it's down to ang
31:42to break the news to the henderson family so i've just got two bikes that are on provisional at the
31:49moment lot 614 the 1967 triumph you'd reserve a 4 000 it's done three and a half yeah and then
31:56the
31:56other one is the 1953 royal enfield reserve was 1200 it's done 800 all right perfect that's all of
32:04them gone then bye all of them oh that's good news isn't it oh that's good i'm happy for him
32:11that is
32:12very unusual because almost every email i send out for people wanting to sell their bikes says that the
32:17bike market is at an all-time low so that's good happy fine he should be doing cartwheels shouldn't he
32:24because the bike market is is very volatile the old british bikes they really are very very difficult
32:32to rehome but bikes in general across the board a terrific value at the moment if you if you're like
32:38shall i shan i buy them now because they cannot get a lot cheaper they really can't
33:00you're in at 180 but 180 pound bid then nice size sign that but 180 pound bid but 180 pound
33:07bid look
33:07mix on it up there you can see it but 180 then provisionally for the first one of my favorite
33:13cars alvis te21 three litre straight six five speed gearbox beautiful car quality car hand-built car
33:23all these panels hand-built bit of micro blessing on the paintwork unfortunately right color right
33:30condition other than that it's going under the hammer now i think personally it's well i know it's worth
33:35between 20 and 25. award winner cups in the back and such like long-term ownership yeah i've always
33:42wanted one i would love this car first thing i must make crystal clear is the registration number is not
33:51going with the car what doesn't go with the car ash correct well done there you go then so the

34:42majestic looking car at 16 500 pound then we'll put you down france thank you ever so much for your
34:47bidding at 16 500 pounds provisional to france thank you very much so the alvis will soon be leaving the
34:58building because originally we thought that car was gonna have to go for a lot more father thought that
35:04yeah but the the lady and gent that own the car martin he's happy to have the bid you know
35:09he wants
35:10the money not the car so anyway resurrected everyone's happy and he's left to paul to cement the on ton
35:16cordial with the new owner thank you bye now bye-bye fortunately his english is a lot better than my
35:23french
35:24so uh he he is taking the holiday in the south of france and it may take a few days
35:34to make pay
35:37a few weeks later there's a new arrival in northern france complete with french number plates
35:43and talking of which the original uk registration has been kept by martin the former owner of the alvis
36:04and we're both from watney originally but living down in northumberland canoe they're certainly a
36:10long way from home but this couple haven't lost their passion for all things with wheels
36:16we've had a motorbike in the conservatory um one christmas i came home to find the bonnet of my car
36:21at the end of my bed that was that was that was my dad that wasn't you the conservatory was
36:25you so
36:26yeah um i'm used to it yeah is the choke on this one slack no no it's tightened up like
36:36it will just
36:36slowly creep i was surrounded by cars motorbikes tractors all that growing up so definitely had a
36:43lot of freedom in that regard used to work at a bike shop in orkney cycling shop so went from
36:49building
36:49push bikes and then as the usual way it goes it escalates to things with motors they built up a
36:56nice collection of their own the latest of which is a 1967 triumph trophy on the face of it it's
37:03as
37:03british as tea and biscuits but alistair has given it an american tweak i was always wanting to make it
37:10into a desert slide so i didn't want one that was either really really original or really highly restored
37:16and like immaculate because i'd feel bad taking off all those lovely exhausts and things like that
37:21because it i was just wanting a desert slide so i was wanting something that was a good base for
37:25it
37:26for those not in the know hollywood heartthrob steve mcqueen was into desert sled bikes
37:31that were often adapted with high exhaust pipes for racing across california's arid trails
37:37the pipes and the tires make such a big difference and change to the look of the bike
37:41these ones were the 955 so they give a nice line along the side here for the desert sled look
37:48new
37:49tire on the front trial style one all very desert sledy new brakes in there just to improve it a
37:54bit
37:54and they've actually come up really well along with the right fitment of shocks well the ones that came
37:59on it when i bought it were half an inch short so i was buzzing the tire over some of
38:04the big bumps
38:06the chunky tires was kind of the biggest difference i noticed compared to other bikes that you've had
38:11just with the road noise whereas i'm used to more road road tires road bikes um but as far as
38:18being a
38:19passenger in the back um high exhaust keeps your leg warm yeah that's true
38:30allister had been keeping an eye out for the right bike and with values of older british
38:35motorcycles falling he decided a price of three and a half grand was too good to miss
38:42it's got something that i could play with a bit and have a bit of fun with you weren't going
38:46to look
38:46and then you had a look and then you had to buy it yeah it was a really good deal
38:51honest
38:54in recent months the triumph has been on its travels having been taken back to orkney
38:59to be shown off at the island's classic motor show it's always amazing the amount of stuff that comes
39:05out of the woodwork in orkney for this show like for such a small population on the whole the range
39:10of
39:10stuff that can be there definitely keep it and use it there's a few things i just want to tidy
39:16up with
39:16and probably through the winter i'll take it to bits and just give everything a really good clean
39:20and update wiring and things like that i'm not wanting to go through it too much cosmetically
39:26because i like that oily rag side of it but just make it reliable good hopefully leak a little
39:33bit less but it's a british bike so it's gonna leak but you can only try so hard
39:49you've got such a big steering wheel so obviously it's light on the steering the clutch is soft
39:54it's not a racing car you're not going to start overtaking things 80 miles an hour because you
39:58wouldn't want to i like it i think it's nice to have a radio in it because you can't hear
40:02the
40:02engines i think because there's a little bit um a bit like a sewing machine
40:07on the leafy lanes of east anglia gary sutton's putting the 1963 ford cortina deluxe through its
40:14paces after some repair work to make it road worthy again so we've got the engine running the brakes are
40:21done and everything's lovely i don't mind the color and a lot of people buy them like this one they
40:27turn
40:27them in the lotus because they're two doors um you know if you've got to paint it white um i'm
40:33just
40:33going to paint it blue and then we see once it's done i must just sell it and i don't
40:39know it's just
40:40i think people collect pictures don't they or coins or whatever and i just just collect this sort of
40:45stuff i remember when i was a kid you know i mean so far so straightforward but gary has an
40:52itch
40:52that he just can't scratch so what why so many oh i've got some more but they're in the shed
41:00and
41:00i couldn't get them out in time but sorry you've got some more yeah yeah i've got nine all together
41:06i don't yeah yeah i don't like obviously like driving them just part of your collecting when
41:12you was young and uh i don't know i just like them like the shape i like the back i
41:16like the size
41:16i can just about getting them because i'm a bit slimmer and um yeah i do i like the fold
41:21angler and all but a little bit tight again how many ford anglers have you got three
41:25three yeah i'm not being big-headed nothing i don't drink i don't smoke and i don't want to
41:29drink and i don't want to smoke i've got 260 cars at one time how many 160 and the only
41:35reason i knew
41:35i had 160 because my daughters three daughters grasped me up to the mum and they went in the field
41:40and in the shed and they counted them and then they told the mum how many i got wish i
41:45had them now but
41:45i've i've not got them now i'm down about wherever i don't know 80 90 but the cars have got
41:50now better cars than what i did have they're a little bit more money
41:56which would be the go-to one no this this white one i've had this like this look a lot
42:00but they
42:00ain't a proper lotus um i ain't drive that for about 15 years sorry gary you've not driven it for
42:0615 years you know we pushed it around here because i knew you was coming so the one that you've
42:12driven the most out of this lot is the one that you're perched on now yeah because i'm here
42:17filming you you made me yeah but we won't go into that that man does it i think to go
42:23in that car
42:24now be realistic 55 60 is about right you know i mean that's all you want to do because you're
42:29not
42:29you want to race you can go and go and buy me you know because we're for saying but this
42:33is just
42:33a little beat the weight of people some people wave to us and people love it i mean
42:37my dad had one my granddad had one and now i've got one and everybody's got one and well hang
42:42on you've
42:42got more than one well yeah i thought i don't drink a smoke and it seems gary's not quite reached
42:50the
42:50end of the road when it comes to cortinas he's now eyeing up a mark to a state i might
42:57even tell
42:57the wife before i buy see how brave i get i'd like to come and film that so that was
43:01it so best thing
43:02not to tell the wives until you get it home you lived in and if you've really got the hump
43:08tell it
43:09belongs to your mate for a little while be all right wouldn't it
43:36so
43:50you
