France and Japan have agreed to strengthen collaboration on supply chains for critical minerals. It comes as many countries look to reduce their reliance on China for rare earths.

00:00Tokyo and Paris have agreed to deepen collaboration on key mineral supply chains.
00:07We signed a roadmap for critical minerals and materials,
00:10which will allow us to strengthen our partnership and diversify our capacity
00:14to partner with other countries and source our resources.
00:17Through innovation, we are also adopting common techniques for separating these rare earth elements.
00:24French President Emmanuel Macron met Japanese Prime Minister Takahichi Sanae in Tokyo.
00:30The agreement comes as many countries look to reduce their rare earth reliance on China,
00:35which currently dominates the market.
00:37China banned rare earth exports to several Japanese firms
00:40after Takahichi said last year that Japan could mobilize forces if China attacked Taiwan.
