00:14so we've been working on a bike for a couple years now she doesn't need to be led around
00:20somebody just as crazy or crazier than she is ow not that
00:27we're gonna take that bike out build it for joan i'm not done yet here

01:16got in the back yes that's been here for two years so we've been working on a bike for a
01:20couple years
01:21now and we keep tinkering with it and finally we had the opportunity to turn it into something
01:26really cool so paul decided to take what we've already started and use it and finish it up and
01:31we're going to surprise joan with it so this is the bike i don't know you can see how much
01:35dust it's
01:35on i've been in the back room for a couple years this is the one my wife's always saying when
01:39you're
01:39gonna do my chopper when you're gonna do my chopper so we have time now we're pretty caught up uh
01:45she's
01:45going to come in later this is going to be a surprise for saturday party she doesn't know it
01:51so she's going to come in and help me work on the like bike a little bit at least i
01:55think she's going
01:55to do that she's bringing her girlfriend that's going to be a huge distraction also i'll be giving
02:00her a surprise wedding ring i met joanie k because i was looking for a dog and through somebody else
02:09they
02:09said well she know they know this lady that runs the the shelter and um and they have a mastiff
02:17there
02:18and of course they said well they're going to put it down and as soon as i heard that it
02:22was like no
02:23i'll take the dog you know and that's pretty much how we met you know then i started working at
02:27the
02:27shelter i dropped the tree on her car um and i got her telephone number so yeah dropping the tree
02:37on the
02:41car paid off
02:41i just bought new tires and new wheels for this oh i saw those i didn't know what you're doing
02:46i don't
02:46know if this that's good i don't know if the spacing is going to be right but they're nice looking
02:50yeah let's slide this up ready one two that should be good right yeah got this that don't seem right
02:58probably gonna need another space right now i'm thinking that's the front that's the rear

04:07so we're really fortunate to have uh a painter uh right next to our shop he uh he works for
04:14burt uh and does most of his paint but he's done quite a bit of paint for us
04:19yeah you mentioned one scallop so i mean there's three there's two right here right yeah i think
04:26you got three right here three or two the yellow on this yellow is going to be blue

04:35i'm confused yeah whatever's open will be the white
04:40this would be white correct within within that that area will be white so so this this is all
04:49going to be white correct okay so i can bring the scallops to the side here uh maybe do two

04:57if you want full scallops i'll have a nice blue it is a nice yeah very nice you want me

05:07mass sparkle too yeah i'll do that and the color i think the color's great uh you know i wanted

05:18been saying well where's my bike when's my custom bike going to be done so it's going to be done
05:25i picked the colors i think she'll love them uh and i think the bike's going to look great
05:29where's the sprocket oh god bless whoever's getting this bike and joan still does not know that
05:34that's her bike
05:46so stacy is a friend of paul and jones and myself we've known her for years i met her at
05:51colch gym
05:51in newburgh 20 30 years ago and is always around and doing stuff with us and in our family groupings
05:57and friendship groupings so it's going to be fun to have her here working on the bike
06:01don't be excited jim ever ever in your life how about a belt let me just tell you what happened
06:07don't tell me nothing don't tell me nothing it's 12 32 she was here at 11 30 out in her
06:13car
06:13it's 11 30 she got to go further than you do yeah and she still didn't have time to do
06:18her hair
06:18i don't want to do it she didn't do hair in makeup you're going to get your hair dirt you're

06:22to get your hands dirty with that dress on why am i getting my hair i'm getting my hands dirty
06:25shut up we just stopped to visit you hi honey hi honey don't you know i kiss me on the

06:33no no you're furry mustaches and needs a haircut for about three months i used to have i used to

06:40this later it used to trim line yeah she used to do a good job you were the oh no

06:51it's going to become a bike and that's the wrong one this is a bike for a uh customer this

06:57last bike we got to do we had we we're this is like the sixth bike that we're doing in

07:20your mouth okay i'm going to tell you how i met this lady here stacy so stacy is just really
07:28a true
07:29close friend she does the same thing i do she does some time still up in new york and a
07:34couple weeks
07:34down here it takes a little while to get to know stacy um she's brutally honest which is hilarious
07:41but she's been close with paul literally since they're like 18. so when i got divorced with my
07:47first wife i started going to gold's gym she was 16. i just don't interrupt me okay
07:55she thinks she was 16 right i don't know how old i was i was younger yeah probably was no
08:04we're not
08:05that far far and uh she had a boyfriend she had a boyfriend um yeah which boyfriend was this boy
08:15i
08:15was 19. oh you get emotional yeah i was 19. yeah yeah that was the and how i'm setting up
08:21my boyfriend that was my best friend ever i miss a couple of years ago
08:32stacy had uh
08:36to go out of town and jim was fighting kidney disease
08:40so i stopped by he was looking for some supplements that we all take
08:44um in the morning and i said hey jim we have to uh pick a time for dinner and he
08:50said let's do 6 30
08:51and i can't wait for you to meet the uh dogs that are telling you all about her she wants
08:55to
08:56volunteer at the shelter and jimmy was probably the toughest guy i knew like the truest friend i
09:01think paul's had and i went to the office and uh i just said okay we'll do 6 30 at
09:08the following
09:08restaurant pulled away and stacy called me and she said jimmy fell off the deck i was like what do
09:17you mean i said i'm on my way and knowing jimmy was a pretty proud guy was really a big
09:22dude i thought
09:23like he fell so i didn't want to call an ambulance or anything because he'd be mad like he'd be
09:29really
09:29mad unfortunately jimmy had gotten a call and he got a call from the hospital and whatever they told him
09:37uh he walked out on the deck and took his life so i had to make that call to stacy
09:42so as funny and
09:44crazy and loving um as stacy is uh we go deep the amazing thing about stacy is they were like
09:55together since they were like 18 or 19. she's resilient she never holds back even when you want
10:03or two so she's really hilarious in a lot of ways but our relationship is deep you know we share
10:10tough times but she can handle paul better than anybody i know
10:15um when paul's being paul stacy puts paul in his place like nobody i've ever seen and uh their
10:24relationship has a truly special bond because of jimmy and i think just because they go back since she was
10:3018 years old she's a gym rat just like him and they spent a lot of time together so
10:37i think she's fun i think we should have more of her on the show anyhow okay so um
10:44i don't know i was going there for a while she had a boyfriend and she wanted to marry me
10:54yeah yeah i followed you around the gym i drove you nuts for probably 20 years i don't even know
11:01how i'm not married to you yet or my third ex-wife i felt that you were too old she
11:06was too old for me
11:07yeah too old for me that's why i'm helping him change his diaper now yeah go ahead all right what
11:15are we doing what are we doing since you got them to help you out i'm gonna go check on
11:19paint
11:19help us what wait what so these two can work on it yeah okay this will be interesting what am

11:24working on you yell at me once and i'm punching you in the face and i don't know where that

11:43doesn't return your calls paul's been a part of my life i mean it's my world he's in it but

11:49same instance i deal with him still because he doesn't go away no matter how many years later it
11:56is he doesn't go away before fame during fame after fame maybe fame again that's just paul it has to

12:52so i'm not sure she's going to like it or not going to like it but the bike's going to

14:01pretty good right i mean it was crooked but it's not my fault his fault and we got to undo
14:06everything
14:07we did well joanie's been one of my best friends for i don't know how long they're together now i
14:12didn't do her hair today so if anyone has any critique on it it wasn't my work just so you
14:15know yeah
14:16it was it was good to see her and it was good to see her leave we were way off
14:20i guess we probably
14:21should have started with the budget before we sat down uh yeah yeah so yesterday i had uh joan and
14:31stacy here which was a complete a complete interruption you know al's here today and i got drew here
14:38uh we're gonna kind of give it the old overhaul we switched out the wheels and put new wheels on
14:42there and
14:43switch out the the rotors and stuff like that but we're gonna have to take that back wheel over
14:47there but off of there and change the system because the one that came with that like a real
14:54junk system so that's got to be changed we can't center out the wheel with that the way it is
14:59and
14:59so that'll be the first thing that we'll work on is getting that wheel centered up and get that front
15:04end on alby he's already looking at the wiring so he's already having a fit they're like what's this
15:13so we'll talk we'll tighten everything up today if you guys want to put the front end on
15:20right slap the front end on can or you got to clean that wiring up for or whatever you want
15:24to do but
15:25what does he want to do put the front end on yeah but uh all right let's take this axol
15:30and stuff ready friend
15:48you want to lock it down or you want to wait until this beer before you need that spacer
15:53let's lock it down in the case we get more key
16:17in my senior year my i got like suspended i don't know how many times smoking in the bathroom
16:23everything so they said they said you're not going to graduate yeah we're not gonna yeah so
16:28they asked my dad to come to he comes to the school and we went down into the his office
16:34and
16:35as the principal said uh so you know i'm sorry to tell you that uh your son's not going to
16:40graduate
16:41this year and my father looked at him for a second he said listen he said i don't give a
16:47if he stays
16:48here until he has a beard he's graduating yeah go ahead jim ow go ahead jim
17:11so we were working paul and i were working on the rear end of jones bike it had a different
17:14mounting system for the caliper in the back which mounts directly to a bracket on the frame that's
17:20welded there so when we switched the rims out uh and modified some of the sizing in the back
17:25there were some issues with it so we had to figure out what we were going to do and how
17:29we were going
17:29to remi it so i wanted to get that free run and that all the way over there and then
17:33we can look and
17:33see it should work you know what i mean yep by the way it's not going to work jim it's
17:38a bad attitude
17:39well it didn't work did it it did work we we we've got the new brake and it's going to
17:44work so
17:45you know it'll work see it's just like a wife the first one didn't work so you try it to
17:49listen
17:49yeah that one didn't work that one didn't work so
17:54does that look about right yeah that'll work paul and i finally got the tire centered and the caliper
17:59spacing set up so we're going so we're going to mount this bracket to lock everything in place
18:05drew's going to throw some tacks on it and we should be good to go
18:20only take a second to put the back tire in the front end nuts yeah and we were able to
18:26figure that
18:27out put it back together after taking it apart a couple times it fit perfect the rear fender went
18:33on there was no issues there which is very fortunate so we're going to be moving forward
18:36and i think we'll be able to finish this on time i think we had a pretty good day today
18:41you know the
18:41little curves here in uh this afternoon with the rear tire and the usual stuff i guess but uh we're
18:49at
18:49the point we're starting to button it up uh i think that uh tomorrow we'll probably have it uh up
18:55and
18:56running and get out on the road and take it for a test run you know it's been a male
19:00dominated industry
19:01for quite some time i love to see you know women showing their talents and uh it's our time between
19:08casey with the artistry jen working on the eagle fran and everything she does for the community joan
19:15coming in on it uh it's been a lot of women it's great to be able to tell their stories
19:19and share what
19:19they do with everybody else i liked it before you finished it so i took this idea from a temptations
19:27album cover it was from a live show temptations yeah and then i uh incorporated abbey road and then
19:35there's six for your six kids and then if you look up in the top there's 15 bulbs but only
19:4313 are lit up
19:44for your 13 pets and then you look in each there's a couple little uh stars in there that are
19:51silver
19:51relief those are for your grandkids there's seven of them and then you have one big star right up at
19:57the front for joan for jim for joan i thought you said for jim i was just saying give me
20:04the grinder
20:04he's special but not that kind of special you know what i mean good job glad you like it thank
20:11you so
20:11much thanks for giving me the opportunity i don't i don't hug anyone either so it'll never happen again
20:20it was just a moment it was our moment i got to meet paul and you know when he came
20:28in for lunch
20:29and stuff like that and uh just so happens that i apparently am the only one who can get his
20:35orders
20:35right when he first started coming in so i became his kind of day-to-day bartender to make sure
20:41his food
20:41was always right i've known her for quite some time and knew she was an amazing artist so it was
20:46a no-brainer
20:47to bring her in on this the design is insane she's got the colors and the concept paul had mentioned
20:52to her she put her own twist on it she put some numbers in there which represent paul and joan
20:56and their families and their animals which only people who know the story are going to recognize
21:00otherwise they're just going to think it's a cool piece of the artwork uh she knocked it out it's really
21:04cool to you know go from watching him on tv to knowing him as a person and yeah you can't
21:11really
21:11judge a book by what you see on tv because he's a he's a big old teddy bear so paul
21:16called me and
21:17asked me to come to florida to help pick out a ring for my mom he had never gotten her
21:22ring yet but
21:22they've been married for a long time so he really wanted to get her a ring especially because he's
21:26building a bike for her too and he wants to surprise her with both at the same time so he
21:31asked me to
21:31come down take a look at the bike make sure everything looks good what that she would like it
21:35and helped to pick out the ring that she would like do you have any idea what you're doing nope
21:41nothing you have not a clue yeah kind of you know what size she wears five five and a half
21:50yep that's a guy with a colleen deal deal
21:59um ready freddies i don't know you don't know we'll look when we get in there relax

24:03what's the deal congratulations so we went ring shopping today we probably should have done this
24:08a little bit better we probably should have started with a budget when we walked in that one's gotta be

25:25some time now so these guys helped me out my uh stepdaughter here uh was a big help thank god
25:32she's a big help she helps me spend my money that was a good clue i thought she'll be happy

25:59everything is new we didn't use one piece of the other one where's christian at yeah
26:07so i just think we had a lot in common al doesn't like many people pretty much nobody probably nobody
26:13so he likes me i don't really care if he likes anybody else he likes dogs i like dogs that
26:21clutch
26:21moving at home clutch no well i gotta go in or out out gotta go out out problems with the
26:29primary and
26:30the clutch not working right uh couldn't get the clutch adjusted it was too too heavy alan is like he's
26:37just turn aces he just does not stop at anything you know and he couldn't figure it out neither
26:44let's see if i have another nut and just zipped it off i don't know i guess i don't know
26:49you have
26:49another basket you're gonna take a whole clutch part again right well yeah in the belt yeah you're
26:56paying the ended up taking it all off throwing it away and putting a whole different setup from bdl on
27:03it
27:03we're trying to get it get it all buttoned up here we we ran into a problem with the belt
27:07drive and
27:08the clutch not not adjusting right um so we ended up trashing that and we got a bdl clutch that
27:15we're
27:15putting in now and uh we'll put that on after lunch and hopefully problems we had will go away well
27:22yeah wait wait you're probably already in already you're already in yeah i know but it was the same
27:28thing with the other one i mean we can't i can hardly i definitely not hitting the clutch now
27:33i'm not hitting the other side i don't believe so everything's new that even the nut everything
27:41that holds it everything is new we didn't use one piece of the other one where's christian at yeah
27:50they keep coming in this is this is his this is his specialty you want me to check with him
27:55or leave
27:55alone so paul called me up he said he had a problem he needed me to get there right away
28:01why are you getting up perfect timing what are you guys doing how are you good you good to see
28:06hey paul hey al we're uh all right troubleshooting we're we're changing having a nascar drill
28:16nascar what on and off on and off like tire change watch oh we put a brand new belt
28:22drive on there it's still not working wait this is this is jones bike right yeah what's wrong with
28:27it you can't we just can't get the the the adjustments it was hanging up but at the lever you
28:35mean it's hanging up tight tight so we changed the whole belt drive because if he didn't come in help
28:43bow on us uh we'd still be working on the bike good yeah all right let me see
28:53yeah i told you i said early what did i say earlier change that umbrella did i tell you that
29:01right after you said you loved me you said to change the umbrella
29:05we had it happen before we did we had we had and we spent hours
29:13hey al you great give me a longer screwdriver we got a little yeah
29:28so right now we're just basically cleaning the bike up a little bit
29:32and i think that uh pretty much we're ready to drop it down see if she starts
29:54and we got it all squared away and rode rode pretty good
30:09it's been cool man this you know these past six bikes it's been a trip we've had a lot of
30:13laughs
30:14you know some fun times it's great to see paul again i'm glad he reached out and asked me to
30:19be a part of this you know it's it's a big thing man it's something to be proud of
30:24yeah so tomorrow morning i'm gonna go pick up the diamond check it out make sure everything's good and
30:27we're gonna head up to the house and surprise her she thinks everyone's coming over for her birthday
30:31but little does she know a bike and a new ring are coming so i'm really excited to see
30:36what she thinks about both the other day i was in the shop and they showed me something they said
30:42what
30:42you think and i said i don't like blue
31:05hold it here and it opens this one i would open it the other way i know
31:10and it's already 3 10 by 3 45 start to get the bikes what happens around four good job all
31:15right
31:16i'll take care of her sometimes you might say it's a love it might be a love hate relationship but
31:23you know the the bottom line is um she's always been there for me you know about two weeks ago
31:28paul
31:29said i have to talk to you you just know like as a as a wife right when your husband
31:33says i have to
31:34talk to you it's usually not good and he said okay so here's the deal there's like 120 people coming
31:39and uh i don't know what i'm supposed to do or what we're supposed to do and i said where
31:44are they
31:44coming assuming that we were going to do it at OCC and he said no they wanted to do it
31:49at the house
31:50i said paul we live on a farm we don't have parking where would you put 120 people at a
31:55small
31:55farmhouse you know so actually it was pretty funny because he's like well i just know that you
32:01always figure stuff out so this whole thing um was probably the biggest stress bomb dropped on me
32:07did anybody see the liquor guy seriously the liquor guy oh everybody's in panic over here right yeah
32:14everybody's trying to shake he said he's gonna be here it's also uh in 90 days we've had three days
32:22of
32:22rain it's a dirt fest so you're not getting out of here with clean feet that's all i can tell

32:54there were so many people from various parts of my life you know there were people here friends of
33:00mine from when i was 14 and 15. it was definitely moving i think as you move on in life

33:07i think that you really appreciate relationships and good people um and to look around today my my
33:13friends from down here it was awesome feeling to just see all these people from all walks of life
33:19here you know to celebrate with us i just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came to celebrate
33:24her birthday uh she really appreciates it i know a lot of people traveled long and far to be here
33:29and we actually have something that we wanted to share paul has actually has a surprise for her so joan
33:37mom i'll let her do the thanking herself as well
33:42thank you guys this is amazing i really um can't i look around and i see all these people from
33:48different walks of my congress in the back so actually uh we all know each other since we are 14
33:58years old back there we've made some great new friends down here as well we have some of our friends
34:04that came in from back home in new york over here in the upstate new york so when i look
34:09around i see
34:10all the facets of our life and and all of the people that have come out today and i can't
34:15thank
34:15you enough because it's been awesome and we're having a great time and i hope you're having a great
34:18time too and don't worry more liquors on the way but in the meantime since we're holding out on that
34:26you can take a step this way there's a surprise for you
34:46so so the best is happy birthday
34:49i had no clue like honestly jim was showing me a fender or something and i was like oh it's
34:55pretty cool i don't know i don't really like blue but it's pretty cool the other day i was in

35:14it does look good actually really good she keeps asking where are my choppers all the time where's my
35:19chopper and we've been uh you know doing the show and we've been like really busy i really like the
35:24bike i think that my mom's gonna like it i love the color i love the gas tank i love
35:28everything
35:29about it i like that it's low to the ground it's an easy ride um just kind of waiting for
35:33when he's
35:33going to build me one just like it i just figured this would be a good birthday present yeah
35:41by the way i like that color blue
35:45i really screwed up on that one last week so i'm not done yet here
35:52so we we spent a lot of time riding bikes together every day and um so i can't help it
36:01i just think it's funny but um but so we used to ride past the um the justice of the
36:11peace every day
36:12you know and every once in a while we would we would like look we would like look over there
36:18we'd both say no no that's not happening man never again never again so one day um they had a
36:26sale
36:27remember they had the sale yeah it was a sale on marriage license so anyhow we said i'm gonna say
36:35she said let's go but she's gonna tell you that i said let's go so but anyhow so yeah so
36:42we go in
36:42there we fill out the papers real quick sign her name get up there i do you do and and
36:49there was like
36:49a plastic bouquet of flowers and a vase and i gave her that and uh we we uh we went
36:58to lunch and that was
36:59like yeah we never really uh had a wedding uh or anything like that you know so i figured i'd
37:07get
37:07you something i figured i'd get you something is it blue i can't open it your daughter showed me how
37:21to
37:21open this there it is oh my god thank you that's beautiful
37:39i love it thank you like it
37:45so i just want to say that i really love my wife but what i like more about her that
37:50she puts up with me
37:51i love it thanks for coming everybody i appreciate it
37:58and definitely had no clue about the ring he did a pretty good job on that today
38:04um ring bike come on he worked hard at it so i got to give him a couple of points
38:09a motorcycle and a
38:10ring holy cow
38:13that's be special that's for sure well thank you again for all of you being here to be a part

38:21Figured that my daughter Sam probably had a hand in this, but I was like, there's no way that he
38:27did this by himself.
38:29For Paul, getting this ring, honestly, was a surprise to me because he's not really romantic.
38:34I pick out the Christmas gifts, the birthday gifts.
38:36Forget Valentine's Day, he doesn't even remember when it is.
38:39So this to me, when he asked me to come and do it, I was like, all right, that's really
38:41nice for my mom because he doesn't do a lot of nice things like that.
38:44Like he's, he'd give her the shirt off his back, but he definitely doesn't think proactively on gifts or things
38:49like holidays.
38:50So it was really nice.

39:25You know, I think it's a gift that Paul has always had.

39:36No, it was nice.
39:37Paul did a good job.
39:38The bike is beautiful.
39:39The ring came out great.
39:41Paul didn't, you know, didn't lose it, which was amazing also.
39:44And, uh, all in all, a great day with some great friends and family.
39:46I mean, it was a great day.
39:48Weather's perfect.

39:57You never came and asked me for my daughter's hand in marriage.

40:57If you'd told me 20 years ago that we would have been doing this,

41:02I guess I probably would have believed it because we do crazy stuff.
41:06So doing six bikes in such a short period of time
41:09and then being filmed all day while you're doing it,
41:12it's a little frustrating, a little hectic,
41:14but it's a challenge we all took on when we started this.
41:16The great thing about doing it this time is Paul owns 100% of the show.
41:20The editing, the production, the stories come from the customer and Paul,
41:25so it's OCC his way and our way because it's a team effort.
41:28When you see the bike finished and the unveil, it's worth it.
