00:00To be human is to learn, to err, to struggle, and to remember, said Chief Justice Wan Ahmad
00:06Farid Wan Saleh as he cautioned the legal fraternity against over-reliance on artificial
00:12intelligence, warning that the technology must not reduce lawyers to machines.
00:17In a special address, the top judge expressed concern, particularly for young lawyers, about
00:23the temptation to rely heavily on the technology.
00:26He said when we outsource our thinking, we are not just saving time, we are losing a
00:31part of ourselves, adding that efficiency is for machines.
00:35Wan Farid encouraged the legal fraternity to embrace the technology, but to use it wisely
00:41as an aid, not a substitute.
00:43He added that technology could not weigh compassion or exercise conscience, and was certainly not
00:49capable of understanding the human story behind every legal case.
00:54He said this was why ethical reasoning should be embedded from the very beginning in how
00:59the law is taught and practiced.
