Carol Kirkwood delivers tearful farewell to viewers in emotional final BBC broadcastBBC News
Transcript
00:00This is a forecast I've known for quite a while was coming but that doesn't make it any easier to
00:05present because after 28 years as a BBC weather presenter, tracking storms, chasing sunshine and occasionally getting it completely wrong
00:16and saying, I dare you John, I'm saying goodbye.
00:21You know, when I first walked into the studio, I could never have imagined the journey ahead. Back then, as
00:27we were saying, the graphics were simpler, the maps were a bit clunkier and I had a lot less grey
00:33hair than this. But one thing has never changed and that is the privilege and honour of being welcomed into
00:39your homes. Thank you. Thank you for trusting me, be it telling you about heat waves or snow from big
00:47national events to the everyday question of do I need to take a brolly?
00:51You've been the constant in all of this and I've never taken that for granted. And thank you for all
00:57the wonderful gifts, cards and messages. I'm really going to miss you.
01:01And to my colleagues, past and present, both in front and behind the camera, in BBC weather, BBC breakfast, news
01:09and sports and all the other departments I've been privileged to work in.
01:12I owe you all so much. You've been my team, my safety net and very often my family. We've shared
01:20breaking news, long shifts, plenty of laughter, bad hair days and the occasional moment of pure chaos.
01:28And you know what? I wouldn't change a second of it. This job has given me so much more than
01:33a career.
01:34It's given me memories. I'll carry them forever. Friendships I treasure deeply and a front row seat to the incredible,
01:42unpredictable beauty of our weather.
01:44A subject I still love. As for what comes next, well, for once, I don't have a detailed forecast, but
01:50I do know this.
01:51It's time for a new chapter, a bit more time with Steve and perhaps the luxury of watching the weather
01:58instead of presenting it.
01:59Thank you for letting me be part of your lives.
