00:15Russian Guard Naval Forces, who was killed during a recent Israeli-U.S. aggression.
00:25The European community has expressed concern and condemned the Israeli law that provides
00:29for the imposition of the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners.
00:37And U.S. celebrities call on the government to immediately close the immigrant detention
00:42center in Texas.
00:49Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:50I'm with Alberto Matos from the Rezo Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:54We begin with the news.
01:13In Iran, funeral ceremonies are underway for Rear-Armiral Ali Reza Tansiri, commander
01:18of the Revolutionary Guard Naval Forces, who was killed during the recent Israeli-U.S. aggression.
01:24According to local media, over a thousand people carrying Iranian flags and portraits
01:29of Tansiri gathered for the ceremony in the port city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran.
01:34Previously on early Monday, the IRGC officially confirmed his death, days after the occupation
01:38army claimed responsibility for his assassination, enabling the naval commander to the status of
01:43national martyr.
01:44For its part, the naval force combatants assured that, even in the physical absence of their
01:49commander, operational management in the strategic strait of Hormuz remains firm through the delivery
01:54of decisive blows against foreign forces.
02:03And the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that over 105,000 civilian buildings have been
02:08damaged by joint U.S.-Israeli bombings in the last five weeks.
02:11According to the organization, the destruction has affected 83,351 residential buildings, 21,059
02:19commercial establishments, 600 educational centers, and 300 healthcare centers, evidence
02:24of the constant violence targeting the nation's basic infrastructure.
02:27Moreover, almost 40,000 of the residential buildings and business units that have been hit were in
02:33the capital, Tehran.
02:34Furthermore, the report highlights the unprecedented humanitarian crisis Iranians are suffering amid
02:38constant bombardments.
02:47In this regard, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemned the criminal offensive
02:51launched by the occupation forces of the United States and Israel against Isfahan.
02:56Iranian authorities reported that the missile struck residential areas and directly pardoned the
03:00national power grid in what they described as an act of state-sponsored terrorism against the
03:05civilian population.
03:06The aggression escalated following the release of a video by U.S. President Donald Trump showing
03:11one of the explosions in the territory.
03:13Iran emphasized that its defense would not back down in the face of military intimidation by the U.S.-Israeli
03:18Axis.
03:30The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy also announced that it had carried out an operation
03:35against a U.S. command and control center in the United Arab Emirates. According to the official statement,
03:40the precision missile strike was possible after detecting that U.S. troops had abandoned the Al-Minhad
03:45base to operate from a hidden location. This offensive is framed as a direct response to the U.S. and
03:51Israeli attacks against Iranian territory.
04:00The Israeli Emergency Services reported that at least six settlers were injured when Iranian missiles
04:04carrying fragmentation sub-monition struck the central district of Tel Aviv.
04:09The attack set off fires in several vehicles and caused property damage to residential buildings due to
04:14missile risk scattering overpopulated areas.
04:17Iranian authorities confirmed the massive launch of this series of projectiles
04:21as part of their strategic response, while residents in central Israel reported hearing
04:25explosions. The air strike temporarily paralyzed commercial activity in Tel Aviv metropolitan area.
04:37And Egypt implements energy saving protocols as Israeli-U.S. aggression toward Iran triggers
04:43massive oil and gas supply interruptions. These restrictions are impacting daily life in Egypt,
04:49the country renowned for its bustling streets and vibrant nightlife. Nevertheless, the recent conflict in
04:54Middle East has triggered a global natural gas shortage, leading to a sharp increase in energy prices,
05:00in the United States. Consequently, the government revealed that the energy import bill surged from
05:04$1.2 billion in January to over $2.1 billion by mid-March. Due to this steep rise, officials were
05:12forced to
05:12establish measures to regulate electricity consumption and prevent total blackouts.
05:20We are implementing these measures because we know they are important for the country. We will have to
05:24adapt by giving some of our workers a break and reschedule in shifts and then wait and see what happens.
05:31The last test conflict in the Middle East has led to a global shortage of natural gas,
05:37including in Egypt. This combined with rising energy prices has made it difficult for Egypt to import gas for
05:45electricity generation. Most of Egypt's power plants run on natural gas.
05:53Let's take our first break. We're going to be right back.
06:19Welcome back. The Israeli parliament approved on Monday a law allowing death penalty for Palestinian
06:25prisoners. The bill, supported by the far-right Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Beer,
06:30passed in second and third readings with 62 members voting in favor, 48 against and one abstention.
06:36During deliberations, the committee dismissed more than 2,000 objections against. The legislation which
06:42mandates the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of carrying out attacks that result in the killing
06:47of Israelis in a move reflecting an accelerated process despite widespread controversy. The law
06:53introduces a mandatory death sentence without requiring unanimous judicial approval with executions
06:58to be carried out by hanging by the Israeli prison service within a specified period. It also stipulates
07:03that no pardon may be granted, thus preventing any political or legal intervention to alter the ruling.
07:16In this context, the Palestinian presidency strongly condemned the law's approval,
07:21discriminated as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. Through a statement issued on
07:27Monday, the presidency said the law constitutes a clear breach of the 4th Geneva Convention, particularly
07:32the protections it guarantees for individuals and the safeguards for fair trials, as well as a
07:37violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which amounts to a war crime
07:43against the Palestinian people. Moreover, the presidency emphasized that such laws and measures would
07:48not break the will of the Palestinian people or undermine the steadfastness nor will they deter them
07:53from continuing to their legitimate struggle for freedom, independence and the establishment of an
07:59independent Palestinian state. In this regard, the authority called on the international community
08:03to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities by taking serious action to hold these violations,
08:09hold Israel accountable and impose sanctions over its ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people.
08:22The European community has expressed concern and contempt of the Israeli law that provides for the imposition of the death
08:27penalty on Palestinian prisoners.
08:29The European Union representatives stated that the Israeli reform providing for the imposition of the death penalty by hanging
08:35constitutes a discriminatory step back in terms of human rights. Furthermore, it was noted that various voices in Israel have
08:42spoken out against the law,
08:43and that an appeal has been filed with the Supreme Court, but there is a clear negative trend regarding Israel's
08:49obligation to respect human rights.
08:51The European Union reaffirmed its firm opposition to the death penalty in all cases,
08:56under any circumstances, and described the law as a violation of their right to life.
09:08The European Union delegation is set to depart for Gaza this April 2026 on a humanitarian mission to deliver solidity
09:15aid and protest the ongoing siege.
09:17From the trade union headquarters, the announcement reaffirmed the non-violent and solidity nature of the mission aimed at breaking
09:24the blockade and highlighting its impact.
09:26Furthermore, the movement condemned the genocide against the Palestinian people while urgently calling for citizens' mobilization and government involvement.
09:34Meanwhile, Brazilian activist Diago Ávila, renowned for his solidity work with Cuba, served as the keynote speaker
09:40and concluded by extending a pressing plea to take action for Palestine.
09:58In other topics, a recent archaeological discovery in China reveals the secrets of Ximau, an ancient city built with advanced
10:05planning, offering new insights into the early development of Chinese civilization.
10:09Our correspondent Bruno Falsi with the details.
10:13Greetings, comrades.
10:15Here from Beijing, I came to tell you a story about an old city in North-West China, where archaeologists
10:24are revealing new details about Ximau, one of the world's most important archaeological sites.
10:32The ancient city, over 4,000 years old, covered nearly 4 million square meters and was protected by massive stone
10:42walls, demonstrating a level of organization uncommon for its time.
10:47The site features large structures as pyramid-like areas, palaces, and elaborates cultures that evidence of a complex and stratified
11:01society with well-defined hierarchies.
11:05The most recent studies show that this society was organized around family lineages and well-defined power structures, and that
11:17it maintained connections with different regions, reflecting the long-distance exchange of thousands of years ago.
11:27In addition, 17,000 bone needles were found along with remains of cattle and sheep, evidence of an organized economy
11:39that combined agriculture and animal husbandry, ensuring sustenance for its population.
11:47Ximau is now proof of the early development of the Chinese civilization, considered the oldest with historical continuity in the
12:00world.
12:01With this news from here, Beijing, we'll go back with you in the studios.
12:08Thank you, Bruno. Let's now move on with your news.

12:54Civil Defense is coordinating the delivery of human RNA while maintaining a red alert due to flood risk in several
13:00municipalities across the country.
13:08And the heavy rains also caused flooding in several areas of Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.
13:12In a short period, some areas recorded between 90 and 120 millimeters of rain, which represents approximately 10 percent of
13:20the average annual precipitation.
13:21The Montevideo city government reported that this weekend's rainfall was unusual in terms of its intensity and speed, causing significant
13:29problems with urban drainage.
13:31The mayor of Montevideo, Mario Vergara, highlighted the situation, emphasizing that although these emergencies occur occasionally, they reflect the need
13:40for a coordinated response.
13:41Regarding future steps, he mentioned a program already underway to relocate vulnerable settlements led by the Ministry of Housing.
13:55And in Brazil, a critical engine failure on a Delta Airlines plane forced an emergency landing at the Guadalulhos Airport
14:01in Sao Paulo, prompting a response from law enforcement agencies.
14:05The Airbus, bound for the U.S. city of Atlanta, suffered a failure in its left engine that led to
14:11an explosion visible from the ground.
14:13The incident caused debris that fall on the terminal's green areas, sparking fire outbreaks in the vegetation.
14:19The plane managed to return to the runway and land safely, with its 270 passengers and 14 crew members aboard
14:25unharmed.
14:26The incident disrupted operations at the airport, prompting airlines to cancel 28 flights.
14:30In the aftermath, the Brazilian Air Force Agency has launched a probe into the incident, as the U.S. Federal
14:36Aviation Administration also stated to be investigated.
14:45Let's now take our second break. Stay with us.
15:06Welcome back.
15:08The Russian oil tanker Anatoly Kolodkin arrived in Cuba on Monday, where it remains waiting to be unloaded at the
15:13port of Matanzas, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport.
15:17The vessel is carrying approximately 100,000 tons of oil, classified as Solidarity 8, amid a severe energy crisis affecting
15:24the Caribbean island.
15:25Its cargo set sail to the island on March 9th, under the Russian flag, and without a military escort.
15:30In addition, the tanker was initially accompanied by a Russian Navy warship through the English Channel.
15:35However, after entering the Atlantic, the ship continued its journey on its own until its arrival in Cuba.
15:41This operation represents, according to reports, the first arrival of a tanker on the island in three months.
15:46The move comes after the United States pressured Venezuela and Mexico to hold energy supplies to Cuba.
15:51As a result, the island has not received oil since January 9th, which has led to a sustained deterioration of
15:57the energy system and hardships for the population,
16:00which depends on fuel for essential services and the functioning of the economy.
16:12And the Cuban government expresses gratitude for the donation of 15,600 tons of rice sent by the People's Republic
16:18of China.
16:19The rice is intended to mitigate the effects of the escalation of the U.S. economic blockade.
16:24This shipment is part of a 30,000-ton aid package that the Asian giant is sending to support the
16:29island amid a food shortage exacerbated by Washington's pressure measure.
16:33In this regard, Cuba's Minister of Domestic Trade, Betsy Diaz, emphasized that the shipment arrived at a timely moment and
16:40will be distributed immediately in 11 provinces.
16:42For his part, the Chinese ambassador to the Caribbean island, Hua Xin, stated that his country would not abandon the
16:48Cuban people and will maintain the historic relations of brotherhood and solidarity between the two nations.
16:59The United Nations Human Rights Council, at its 61st session, adopted two resolutions submitted by Cuba in support of food,
17:06security and access to culture.
17:08During their presentation, the Cuban delegation denounced the inhumane impact of the U.S. blockade on the right to food
17:15on the island.
17:16In response, the Council condemned the use of basic inputs as a weapon of political coercion and demanded an end
17:22to due lateral measures.
17:23Also, it was unanimously approved to reaffirm culture as an essential pillar of development and an indispensable bridge for dialogue
17:30among nations.
17:41The U.S. celebrities called on the government to immediately close the immigration detention center in Texas.
17:48Celebrities such as Madonna, Javier Bardem, Pedro Pascal and Jane Fonda have called on U.S. Donald Trump's government to
17:57immediately close the detention center in Texas where immigrant children are being held.
18:02They explained that the children in the detention center are suffering from trauma, neglect and conditions that violate basic standards
18:09of health, safety, dignity and human rights.
18:12The artists announced that more than 16,000 verified signatures have been collected regarding the case while urging the federal
18:18government to return the children and families to their homes and communities from which they were separated.
18:32On Monday, protesters in Boston, Massachusetts called for FIFA to move the World Cup matches out of the United States,
18:38arguing Washington commits human rights violations and war crimes in Palestine, Venezuela, Cuba and Iran.
18:44In this context, organizers from the Boston Coalition for Palestine and the Black Alliance for Peace urged for the U
18:50.S. and Israel to be banned from international sporting events.
18:53Demonstrators claim these nations continue to commit atrocities with impunity while rejecting international cooperation.
19:00This controversy deepened after FIFA President Gianni Infantino awarded Trump the new FIFA Peace Prize, distancing the organization from its
19:09alleged political neutrality.
19:11Meanwhile, Massachusetts Governor welcomed the economic boost the event provides as protesters vowed to keep the pressure on insisting that
19:18human rights must take precedence over sports.
