00:00Prime Minister Balin Shah has gone full Nayak mode in Nepal, except he's going to be in office
00:03not just for one day like in the Hindi movie. March 27th, Balin Shah is sworn in. Black trousers,
00:09matching jacket, signature black caps, sunglasses. Basic Balin. Within hours of taking oath,
00:14things started moving fast. Very fast.
00:20That same evening, his first cabinet meeting took place. By the next morning, Nepal police
00:25reached former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's home. There were pre-down raids. Oli, 74 years old,
00:29was taken into custody. His home minister, Ramesh Lekak of the Nepali Congress, was also arrested.
00:34The charge? Criminal negligence. The allegation? They failed to act when security forces killed
00:39at least 76 protesters over two days in September 2025.
00:45And while all this was happening, the new government dropped its full agenda,
00:49100 points, released within days. Here are the key ones.
00:52On corruption, a special committee will investigate the assets of politicians and senior officials
00:56who've held power since 1990. It reports directly to the Prime Minister
00:59and includes legal and forensic experts. On bureaucracy, government employees,
01:03teachers and professors can no longer be linked to political parties. Party-based unions inside
01:08offices will be dissolved. On the size of government, ministries will be reduced from 22 to 217.
01:13On education, no exams until class 5. Student politics will be banned in colleges and universities
01:19and replaced with non-political student councils. On public services, passports, driving licenses
01:24and citizenship documents will be delivered to people's homes within 100 days.
01:28On healthcare, private hospitals must reserve 10% of beds for patients who cannot afford treatment.
01:34Now, this rule already existed but will now be enforced.
01:37On the constitution, discussions will begin on amendments including a formal apology to Dalits
01:41and historically marginalised communities. All of this in under 72 hours.
01:45Nepal has seen big promises before but most times they've viewed it just disappointment.
01:49But Balin Shah is doing things differently. He's moving fast and he's making sure people can see it.
01:54The real question is, will the speed bring real change or will it slow down like before?
01:58The clock is ticking.
02:00I'm Anusha Vikari.
02:01First things fast.
