#video #El juego del calamar: El desafío - Episode 9
Transcript
00:17Maya is who she is, like, she can no longer hide behind this facade that she's been hiding behind, this
00:24sweet lady, like, she can't hide behind that.
00:29Attention players, here are the results of the test.
00:34Oh, God.
00:36Jump on in, Ashley.
00:38Maya, would you like to join us out here? Are you vibing?
00:44Oh.
00:45Oh.
00:53Even though she is not part of the group, I think Maya is awesome, and I'm so glad that she's
00:59still in this game.
01:00She's someone that I can really trust in here.
01:05Whoo!
01:06Oh, my God.
01:07Wow.
01:09It's gonna be a nine.
01:11It's gonna be zero nine.
01:12Okay, zero nine.
01:14Single digit.
01:15I can't believe I made it this far, and I just hope that I can beat out these other eight
01:20people, you know, to make it to the final.
01:23Maya tried to take me out, but it didn't work, so, you know, I feel even better, and, you know,
01:29I'm ready for whatever is to come.
01:30We lost some great people today, guys. We lost some great people today.
01:49The current prize fund now stands at $4,470,000.
01:57The money has never felt real to me until now, and it's like something I would dream about before, but
02:04now it's like, no, there's a serious chance.
02:07Oh, man. Today was brutal.
02:09We all got us through it.
02:11Yeah.
02:11We all threw that die.
02:13Yeah.
02:13Our own choices kept us civil.
02:15True.
02:17I don't think any of us would have gotten this far without this close little group of us.
02:21I'm also feeling that every time I thought that I could trust everyone, someone just snaps and shows a side
02:30of them that I didn't think was there.
02:33Seeing how 287 nominated player 278 for elimination kind of opened my eyes that maybe I should just be being,
02:40like, a teeny bit more careful around her.
02:48Still can't believe what happened.
02:51It's crazy, like, she's walking around not talking to me as if I nominated her.
02:55Yeah.
02:56And then everybody's walking up to her, oh, my God.
02:59And she's still playing this little lady role.
03:02Bitch, you ain't fooling me.
03:03I ain't fool not one lick.
03:12I work for Department of Homeland Security.
03:15I'm an adjudicator.
03:17What an adjudicator does is they review F-1 visa for non-immigrant students who want to come over to
03:27the United States to attend the universities.
03:31In the beginning, when I started the job in 2013, my main goal is, you know, to help as many,
03:41you know, immigrants as possible because I was an immigrant.
03:45So I came over in 1975.
03:48So the feeling of displaced and not having a home, I can, you know, feel their struggles.
03:54Sometimes, you know, I can't let emotion get the best of me.
03:59So I, you know, we, you know, I have to, you know, set that apart to make my job successful.
04:12I was gonna always nominate myself.
04:15Mai had a time where she just felt like she needed to play her game for herself and we cannot
04:20fault her for that.
04:21Yeah.
04:22Only person that can do that is Ashley.
04:24Yeah.
04:24I'm really proud of all of us.
04:26I am too.
04:27Seriously.
04:34I, I love mine.
04:37I think she's lovely.
04:38But I just didn't really understand that decision at all.
04:42We all decided what we were doing.
04:45Poor.
04:46I knew she was gonna do that.
04:50Even though I lost my good friend who's been there through thick and thin, I have to strategize the next
04:56game.
04:57But I feel, um, alone.
05:01It's hard, you know, in that dormitory.
05:05And I can't trust anyone in there.
05:09I know I have to overcome what I'm feeling and to be strong for myself.
05:38Attention players, this is your wake-up call.
05:51Good morning.
05:53Oh, tough night.
05:59Do you ever braid your own hair?
06:01I tried, yeah.
06:03But not, you know, as good as doing someone else's hair.
06:06Oh, gotcha.
06:07It's hard.
06:09It's funny because, like, when we all came in, it seemed like there were, you know, a group here, a
06:17group here, a group here.
06:18But now we're all connecting.
06:20Last night I was kind of thinking we're lucky because, like, you and I were a pair.
06:24Roland and, um, Mai, they're a pair.
06:28Um, Ashley's kind of with us.
06:30Yeah.
06:30Obviously I wish that others were here, but for right now, you know, I wouldn't have it any other way.
06:36This is definitely, I think, the best outcome that could have happened.
06:39Having that sort of mutual chemistry and trust with sort of your teammates, you know, I think is very special
06:44and something that's very often overlooked in situations like this.
06:47Even if we are technically all against each other, I think that, as humans, we're built to work together.
06:53So, you know, having people that you can depend on is very special.
07:00Oh, Sam.
07:01Yeah.
07:02Come here for a minute, please.
07:06I need to talk to you.
07:08Is that okay?
07:09Yeah.
07:09All right, can we go on the stairs or something?
07:12Yeah.
07:13I want to set the record straight about why I chose to eliminate his friend, 278, so that way, you
07:21know, he doesn't see me as a threat.
07:29How are you?
07:32Emotionally exhausted.
07:34Because Ashley is my good friend.
07:37And when you nominated her, I didn't feel any animosity towards you.
07:42I understand it's a game.
07:43Mm-hmm.
07:44But I think we're all just agreeing on a game of civil decency.
07:50Mm-hmm.
07:51And I think that was everyone's rationale with the self-nomination because it very quickly could have devolved into chaos.
08:01I've been in the Navy for 20 years.
08:04It's all about camaraderie, looking out for one another.
08:08And when I stood on the glass bridge, I thought I knew Ashley until she showed me that she's lack
08:15of teamwork, standing there, not taking a risk for anybody.
08:19And everybody would just take over to make that decision for her.
08:22To me, that is selfish.
08:24And I just want you to understand that it's not that Ashley that I don't like.
08:29It's the character that makes me look at her.
08:33Will she have my back in a situation of life and death?
08:37Right.
08:37So I just want to understand that, where I'm coming from.
08:41I've been trying to play this game in a way that I would be proud of and that I would
08:47act in the outside world, as long as we keep our eye on our hearts and our humanity.
08:53Because we all have that good core, and that's all we have to keep our eyes on.
09:00Yeah.
09:00Player 287 has me uneasy.
09:03I've witnessed her making decisions that I personally wouldn't have made, decisions that seemed like they came out of left
09:13field.
09:13I think that the game has gotten to her, and so I need to be a little bit smarter about
09:19her.
09:19Do you think she's open for me to talk to her?
09:23She's always open to communication.
09:25She will listen.
09:26We just have to all own our decisions, like she said.
09:28Yeah, yeah.
09:29Oh my gosh, these benches are hurt.
09:32I see 278 as being not a team player.
09:37But in my head, I'm strategizing what's going to be next.
09:41And with that in mind, I need to apologize without being too suspicious, because I have to save my ass.
09:56So, say you're at a social place, and you see, like, a nice-looking girl.
10:02Um, and you want to go up and talk to her.
10:05Do you have any smooth pick-up lines that you would use?
10:07Yeah, I do this really smooth thing where I, like, just, like, don't go up and talk to her.
10:13I came into Squid Game to meet people, and I think that I'm also really enjoying getting to know the
10:19other players in the top nine.
10:21And hopefully, they see the same in me, and none of us come across as any sort of threat.
10:27Um, that's pretty good.
10:29That's pretty good, honestly.
10:33I had a good childhood, but I felt like I spent a lot of time trying to prove myself, or
10:39prove that, you know, I wasn't the pushover.
10:43Growing up, I had my twin sister.
10:47I would say that my twin is my best friend.
10:51We're complete opposites in personalities, in hobbies, in demeanor.
10:57Um, but that still doesn't stop the rest of the world from comparing us.
11:02So, I love the girl, but, uh, we've often been pitted against each other, which sucks.
11:22Hi, Ashley.
11:23Hello, wife.
11:24Can I talk to you, please?
11:25Yes.
11:27Come on.
11:28Okay.
11:29Dun dun dun.
11:35What's up, ma?
11:38I want you to know, I love you as a person.
11:43I don't know what happened up there, but what I see...
11:45Okay, specifically, what did you see?
11:47Hold on, hold on.
11:48In the glass bridge, when you didn't take a risk,
11:51I didn't see you move, I was like...
11:53What did you see?
11:54That you didn't jump.
11:55I jumped.
11:56I turned around.
11:58After I passed, I said, okay, y'all, I made a jump.
12:00I ain't moving no more.
12:01Everybody, we need to work together as a team.
12:04So it was shocking for your ass to say that I'm not a team player.
12:08I don't know what you saw or didn't see,
12:11but your girl was out front.
12:12Yeah.
12:13And I took that chance.
12:14I know.
12:14Maybe my misperception.
12:17Something like...
12:18I should have talked to you first.
12:20But, you know...
12:20You could have talked to anybody.
12:22Did she jump?
12:22No, no, no, no.
12:23I wanted to talk to you first.
12:24But you didn't, Ma.
12:25I know.
12:26I deeply apologize for that.
12:28Okay?
12:30I received that.
12:31Okay.
12:32Thank you for talking to me.
12:33I appreciate that.
12:34We good.
12:36Yeah.
12:38I receive your apology.
12:39You get what I'm saying?
12:40I'll give you this hug real quick, real nice.
12:43I'll play nice, but I see you.
12:45My eyes are open to you, girl.
12:47I know who you are.
12:48You're playing your game, you know?
12:50All right, now.
12:51Stop being awkward in here.
12:52I know.
13:06Oh, let me just sleep.
13:08I was cozy then.
13:10Me too.
13:17It's game.
13:19All game?
13:24Attention, players.
13:26It is now time for the next game.
13:28Follow the staff into the game hall.
13:58What is this?
14:00Oh my gosh.
14:02That's so strange.
14:04Oh, I don't like this.
14:05Looks like there's a little gift in the middle.
14:09Attention players.
14:12Please choose a seat.
14:22Six players will be eliminated in the next game.
14:28Circle of trust.
14:32You will all be blindfolded.
14:36If you are tapped on the shoulder, please remove your blindfold.
14:42Take the gift box and place it on the desk of the player you wish to eliminate.
14:52That player will leave the game.
14:56Unless they can guess who gave them the box.
15:00If they guess correctly, they are safe and the player who gave them the box will be eliminated instead.
15:11There could not be a worse game than this because we're getting to know each other more, making it more
15:20trickier to eliminate you.
15:22But the closer to the end I'm getting, the more I know I need to break away from being emotional
15:29with people.
15:30Because it will come when I need to eliminate someone.
15:33This is so messed up.
15:36Players, put on your blindfolds.
15:40I think it's a circle of distrust.
15:44More so than a circle of trust.
15:46So I have to be on my best game and to trust no one.
15:52Because I am a lone wolf in there.
16:00With that, let the game begin.
16:04I don't know what happens like this one.
16:07I mean, it's scary.
16:13I know what it's so cute.
16:13I don't want to.
16:16I know what it's so cute.
16:32Oh, my goodness.
16:35I can't be the first person that the guard picks.
17:00Who am I going to pick?
17:04I have to strategize what's the best game plan without everyone getting suspicious.
17:10Um, because Ashley and I have our differences, so it's too obvious.
17:21But my dear friend Roland, I, I, people will think that it wouldn't possibly be me.
17:36I love the guy, but also I have to save myself first.
17:50Players, please remove your blindfolds.
18:08Interesting.
18:09Player 418, to save yourself from elimination, you must guess correctly which of your fellow
18:17players placed the gift box on your table.
18:21Would anyone care to fess up?
18:28No one's got anything to say?
18:32Nothing, Phil?
18:33Nothing, man.
18:39Mine?
18:41Who's going to do your hair?
18:45That's a fact.
18:46All right, she's good.
18:47But that was also pretty, pretty, pretty planned.
18:49It kind of sounded like.
18:51No, what I'm saying is that.
18:53I trust you.
18:54Okay.
18:54I trust you.
18:57What?
19:00Come on.
19:06Would you betray me at this point, Elliot?
19:08You're my son.
19:08This early?
19:09You're my son, man.
19:09I respect that.
19:11That'd be a bold move if one of you two took me out this soon.
19:15All right, all right.
19:18I feel like I'm close with all of you guys.
19:27Hey, man.
19:27I was in your position yesterday.
19:29Ain't there no rush to put a box on?
19:30Nobody did.
19:31If you did have a box, whose desk would you put it on first?
19:35My.
19:38Ashley.
19:38That'd be a little obvious.
19:40So?
19:40Yeah, that's fair.
19:41I feel like in the zone, she would go for mine.
19:44You go for me?
19:45No, I wouldn't.
19:46Well...
19:47You my dog.
19:48I know.
19:48You're my buddy, but...
19:52Definitely not equally close with all of you, which is fair.
19:55Everyone's got their homies.
19:57Don't risk it.
19:59Don't risk it.
20:00What's it?
20:01Picking you?
20:02Yeah.
20:09I think the player who gave me the gift box is...
20:19Player number...
20:2051.
20:29I was just shocked.
20:31I love you, Roland.
20:32Love you too, Mai.
20:33Unless you place it on my desk.
20:34Oh.
20:40I feel bad that picked Roland.
20:42But I have to do what I have to do to move forward.
20:45The next player to be eliminated is...
20:49Player 418.
20:54Dang.
21:03I honestly think 287 put that damn present on Roland's desk.
21:08You know, she's sneaky and she'll stab your ass in the back ASAP.
21:26Player 418.
21:28Player 518.
21:28On your blindfolds.
21:33299.
21:34On the left.
21:36A atlet.
21:40299.
21:51I know I need to get out of this desk quietly as possible, and I also know I need to
22:00pick
22:00someone who would never suspect me. Amanda has always spoken out about standing behind the
22:15girls in the group. I know she won't suspect me.
22:48I've got to look around the room. What do I remember before?
22:58I need to look at Mai's jacket because it was tucked in earlier, so I need to have a look
23:03at that. Can you sit up, please, Mai? Sit up. Sit up. Just sit up. I'll sit up.
23:11It'd be an easy one, wouldn't it, Mai? Any guesses? I don't.
23:193.55. I think I could trust them. Are you okay, Sam? There's a bride in here.
23:27Are you okay, Phil? But Phil's hair is different. So, so.
23:34Nice to see someone sees me as a threat, though.
23:43I think the player who gave me the gift box is player 451, Phil.
24:21I might be feeling guilty about my decision to put the box on Amanda's desk, but by the
24:30same token, I think $4.56 million may soften the blow a little bit.
25:03In these top nine players, I do honestly believe my biggest threat is Mai. In every game, she's
25:11always come out smelling of roses, and some of us aren't really sure how. So, I'm going
25:17to go for Mai. And hope that she thinks it's Ashley.
25:41In my profession as an adjudicator, I analyze people. I read people's faces. There are
25:51eye movements. And the way they sit. If they are fidgety, and how they look at me. You know,
26:04to compile a result. I'm confident to play in this game. It is a very, very hard decision.
26:26This is a crazy opportunity, you know, and I'd be a damn fool not to take advantage of it. I'm
26:32definitely trying to look guilty.
26:35I know we had our differences. And I know you have a strong character. Like, I don't think
26:43it's you. Sam, you have everything going for you. We have our chat. And it could be you.
27:06Elliot. I think that it might be you. Phil. I just got to know you. It has been a pleasure.
27:22It has. So, I have made my decision. I think the player is...
27:54429. Because he has been looking around with a guilty look.
28:12429.
28:13The next player to be eliminated is...
28:23429.
28:27I had an idea that maybe Mai wouldn't suspect it was me and maybe one of the other players.
28:33It's great to meet you all. But ultimately, I failed and she succeeded.
28:40She's really intuitive. She's a smart lady. Mai has a good head on her shoulders.
28:53Mai is so smart. And this is a wake-up call for everyone.
29:22This is hard, you know. I have friends. But, like, I don't have all I am for.
29:28Three years...
29:28the state ésss.
29:32I have been pretty friendly with him. But, uh, I have never gotten really close to him.
30:03my heart sinks it's such an awful feeling to see the box on phil's desk i'm afraid
30:16so one of you has tried to eliminate me i have my suspicions
30:27rose we never got to know each other too well and i feel like it's kind of my fault
30:32i could have approached first and i'm sorry
30:38ashley you're a good person
30:41thank you there can be only one decision today and i think the player that gave me the gift box
30:49is someone who had to make a difficult choice through no fault of their own
30:57i believe it was rose player zero five one
31:20the next player to be eliminated is player 51
31:45two more rounds i'm just hoping i don't get drawn or
31:50get the box and then my place in the final three will be cemented
32:10this game is savage
32:16i'm definitely not putting my present on my desk because she's going to guess me right away
32:23i would have to put my present on someone's desk who i'm you know a bit more familiar with
32:42so i put the present on philip's desk
32:45i'm just we're pretty cool because no way he would ever guess that i did
33:10here we go again
33:23sam my dude you've been talking about us hanging out after maybe it was all fake
33:32allie it must be hard not being the person with the most beautiful hair in the room
33:37and ashley friend turned foe perhaps could be
33:46or was it my so sweet so gentle
33:54i have made my choice
33:59i think the player that gave me the gift box is someone that had to make a decision that they
34:04did not want to make and i believe that this is a good person
34:11but i think the player that gave me the gift box is
34:18player 278 ashley
34:27and it's not personal
34:36the next player to be eliminated is
34:41player 278
34:46why ashley
34:49i did not want to hear those words i was trying not to look all worried and shifty
34:53you know i will never win my oscar came so close but not close enough
35:03please don't do that to me again my mind melts that phil has done it again he's like a superstar
35:12and circle of trust at this point at circle of trust at this point this is incredible
35:15attention players this is the final round
35:19is
35:43so
36:03I don't know.
36:25I don't know.
36:34I don't know.
36:39I knew it was coming.
36:46I feel like it could be any three of you because you guys aren't going to pick each other.
36:54It would be risky for you to pick someone sitting right next to you, but you're very agile.
37:00You're very athletic.
37:02So I wouldn't put it past you.
37:06And as Mai once told me, you have a very innocent face.
37:10But I know that you also wouldn't put it on Sam's desk.
37:17And I know that you know that they're not going to pick each other.
37:22So if you had put it on my desk, your chances of not being guests are a little bit better.
37:38It's so hard because Mai is shaking.
37:41I'm always shaking.
37:42I'm always nervous.
37:44Because this is the end.
37:46This is the chance for the final three.
37:49We're all nervous.
37:51Player 16 is immediately nervous talking.
37:54He's tense.
37:55But then Mai is shaking like a leaf.
37:57And in the past few days, I've developed kind of a distrust of Mai.
38:02I think that 451 is appearing to be the calmest.
38:06I can't read them.
38:14It's been real, guys.
38:17I think that the player who gave me the gift box...
38:29...is player 287...
38:32...Mai.
38:56The final player to be eliminated is...
39:14...player 355.
39:20Bye.
39:23I'm just kicking myself.
39:27I let the events earlier this week get in the way of what my gut was trying to say.
39:35And I wish that I could turn back time and be at that top three, but I can't.
39:44That was the hardest decision I had to make in this whole game.
39:48And it sucks.
39:51I didn't have the heart to pick Sam.
39:53He's been too good of a friend to me this whole time.
39:56So then that means it's between Hallie and Mai, both of whom are very sweet.
40:01In that moment, I had to make a choice, and so I went for Hallie.
40:07Players, the game is over.
40:12You will now return to the dorm.
40:15Please follow the staff.
40:22It's okay.
40:30Take the middle.
40:31Take the middle.
40:51Oh, my gosh.
40:56This is so surreal.
40:59It looks like the water level rose or something.
41:06How are you feeling, Mai?
41:08My heart stopped for six sittings.
41:13Yeah.
41:13Yeah.
41:14Where is on?
41:14Literally.
41:16How many times did you have to give someone the box?
41:19One.
41:20And you, just once?
41:22Just once.
41:22I chose Hallie.
41:24Roland, I wasn't expecting right off the bat.
41:26No, me neither.
41:27Who do you think put the box on?
41:30Did you?
41:31No idea.
41:31Did you put the box on Roland's desk?
41:33Whose box did you put on the desk?
41:36It was, who did I put on the desk?
41:42Because Elliot put it on yours.
41:44I put it on Amanda.
41:46Oh, you put it on Amanda's desk.
41:48Oh.
41:53Come on.
41:54Gosh, that was loud.
41:57That was very loud.
41:58Come on, you guys.

42:16Oh, man.

42:26Six players were eliminated.
42:28Wow.
42:37It's no longer a game of trust.
42:42One of us has to be a winner.
42:46All bets are off.
42:52The prize fund now stands at $4,530,000.
42:58Players 16, 287, and 451.

43:09The game is all about self-preservation.
43:12I have to do what I have to do to survive.
43:17I will definitely do everything I can to win.
